Thanks to @zefie for converting the kdz to a zip.
The zip
The anti-root removal
I flashed the zip in TWRP, rebooted to the OS, and was unrooted.
Reboot into the bootloader, and flashed TWRP.
Rebooted into recovery, flashed the lucye anti root removal, then rebooted into recovery again, and flashed Magisk.
Phone has been fine since Thursday.

FYI: The zip comes with the recovery image removed so you don't have to worry about reflashing or losing TWRP.

The anti-root removal will ALLOW you to root.
After flashing, you'll have to reinstall Magisk as well.

Rctd is anti-root. Lucye is anti-root removal; it removes rctd.
Really, this is not that hard.

I downloaded a software update before I learned that it could break the root and TWRP. I haven't installed it yet, but now I want to delete it. There is a permanent notification icon that prompts me to install the update. Does anybody have any advice?
It cannot break TWRP.

So it only breaks the root?
I don't even think it will do that. If it breaks root, you're about a single flash of a SuperUser ZIP away. Go for it.

I suppose TWRP's message (can't post links, but the page is titled "Official Updates and TWRP") is true only for other updates then. I pressed install now, and it brought me to TWRP. Do you know the file path of the installation file, or is there a workaround for this?
you need stock recovery or you wouldn't even be able to update anyways. TWRP will not allow the update to be installed

So if I can't install the update, is there any way that I can delete it and end the prompt for installation?
I don't understand why you don't want the update.
If you flash stock recovery, install the OTA and reinstall root, you're done. It only might temporarily break root, you can still go back using exactly the same methid you used before.
I have been using custom roms since the last few years but never without root.
I need to use my phone at work via AirWatch and it doesn't allow root.
Most of the features and tweaks in custom roms don't necessarily need root as they are baked into the system.
What are my options if I want to use Chroma / Pure Nexus? Both of them are pre-rooted.
The only feature that I would miss is custom color profiles. As far as my knowledge goes, the only way to implement it without root is adding it to ramdisk as it relies on sysfs files.

im saying if you need to be unrooted, flashing a factory img will be the only way. you can do it the way explained in SuperSU, and you wont have root. but apps that detect root will still think youre rooted.

sure, you can run any custom rom or kernel without root. but you wont be able to change settings or anything like that, since those apps need root to work.

You should be able to find a custom ROM without root. If not, you should be able to remove the root files from your custom ROM. (That said, I'm not sure what pre-installed apps would be impacted, as some of them may require root.)
As for AirWatch working properly, it would depend on what it looks for to check for root -- if it doesn't find what it's looking for on your custom ROM, then it should work.

After reading dozens of threads I'm at a loss.
1. Can I root?
2. If I root, is my phone still going to work? Or will it become the latest victim of my Beowolf.
Odin twrp then install unikernel inside twrp. Will trip Knox so Samsung pay won't work anymore.

I finally found a routine and the right files needed to successfully acquire root, twrp, and custom ROM. Although, the only custom ROM Iv'e been able to boot and setup with all T-Mobile services intact and even the finger print security feature working, is the "OZOP_EDGE_v11_DOJ7.zip, thanks to stangdriver44".
Just remember you should back up the EFS and backup the phone using Samsung smart switch. If you need help, pm me. Id lay out the exact steps I took to get root originally and what it took to get out of a bricked phone, and finally to root and install a custom ROM.
I will type up what I did later today or tomorrow and post it in case anyone does the same thing to gets bootloops and bricks.
I have to attend to other chores now before I go back to work tomorrow, since I spent every evening for the last week and all day and night yesterday, trying to bring this phone out of brick.

You'd have to setup Cygwin software to make the zip an 'Odin flashable .tar.md5 type file', which I have not had time to play with, in order to flash supersu zip files onto the samsung phones.
I am working on a worksheet right now explaining what I had to do to install 5.1.1 firmware and root the phone. I am still looking back to remember exactly how I unlocked the bootloader. I did have to use an android terminal to map out the twrp recovery manual on the phone itself. I do know it would wise for anyone interested in this to backup the EFS before anything. I had to download a specific windows DOS software that does it in a couple seconds and stores it on your computer. It works for a number of other phones as well. Also need to download the newest Odin 3.10.7 software in order to work with 5.1.1 firmware without any problems. Also need to do a backup of whole phone with samsung smart switch "takes place of Kies software now". When I get home tonight I will get names and locations of everything and inform everyone. If you download the wrong DOJ7 software or firmware you'll mess up your device. It took me a week to find the right software downloads related to 5.1.1 in order to make everything work right. And I did everything within 15 minutes. Once I figured out the routine.
Once you update to 5.1.1 I know of no way to downgrade.
I do recommend going over to serio22's post -[Firmware][Bootloader & Modems][Odin] - G920T - DOJ7-
And download DOJ7 BL and DOJ7 modem and G920TUVU3DOJ7 (firmware). Download Chainfire's latest beta super su.
You can just flash unikernel to get root.
Possibly any of the other kernels too

I recommend you root with the latest Supersu beta v2.62-3 zip. It will patch the stock kernel which was designed for your specific build unlike the unikernel. Just flash via twrp.

Hi, I've always used Android with root, however I remember I read that Android 6.0 was too secure to allow root so I haven't tried yet, at this moment, is there a way to root it? I would appreciate the help, thanks!

Your last message is unclear. Have you rooted?
As you say, Chainfire has done a really good job of automating root. Boot into TWRP, flash SuperSU 2.66, done.

Correct.
Just recently checked and my phone no longer has root access. I'm not sure what happened as the boot.img is still there. I checked the version of my device and it updated itself automatically from 13.0.6 to 13.0.7. I am just wondering if it's because my phone updated to a different version that I lost root access.. or if it's something else. I've disabled the auto-update, but is there a way to get my root access back without having to reinstall everything from a clean slate? I'm very new to rooting so I don't understand much.
Can someone tell me why I lost root access, how to prevent it, and how to reinstall root without losing all my data? Here are the specs for my phone:
Xiaomi MIUI Global 13.0.7 Stable
Android Ver 12
I used this guide to root my phone previously:
