Downgrading from Pie to Oreo - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I don't personally own this phone. A coworker came to me to complain about how google took away the battery saving mode under location services and it is now draining his battery by much. I'm trying to help him to root and downgrade his phone down to Oreo.
I found this youtube link to root the phone. I need to review it further but from a quick glance, I thought it was detailed enough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6bZZJseEvg
Before I do this, I want to know if any of the official ROM posted would work on google fi or not. If not, could anyone please share me the link of a good 8.0 ROM for google fi for me to use?
Thanks!

You do not have to root in the device. Just need to unlock the bootloader, after that flash the desired firmware using ADB.
Since it is a paython_fi version (Google FI), you can flash any firmware (android 7, 8, 8.1 and 9.0) on the moto x4.

REMEMBER - Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone. (You don't want your coworker to be mad at you for losing everything)

Hey sorry to necro thread but I'm in the same boat here. Got a moto x4 (3/32gb android one version) and ran all updates, hate Pie and want my Oreo back, hard factory reset didn't roll back android.
I'm reasonably techy but have not flashed a phone before. Wondering if this rollback method still works, and if it's the correct method for my variant hardware, and what the difficulty/risk levels are? Or is there any simpler and less risky way to do it now? TIA!

I already downgraded a few days ago. I put Android 7.1 and 8.1, but the chip and wireless does not work. Is it related to the security patch?

Mine too doesn't work no wifi no baseband no IMEI any solution mine is Moto x4 xt1900-2

Hydrogen OS 2.5.1 to Oxygen OS 3.5

Hi everyone,
I literally just got the Chinese version of the oneplus 3T (A3010) and I want to move from Hydrogen OS 2.5.1 to Oxygen OS 3.5 official with OTA. Does anyone have the file or instructions how to do this? I found instructions for the oneplus 3 but not sure with this model. I'm sure any help would help out a lot of people who are gonna ask this question.
Also will this unlock the bootloader? Just curious about it affecting android pay.
Thank you!

Wanna do me a favor and grab a nandroid backup of your rom before you kill it? I actually want h2os
Aside from that, you should theoretically be able to: ("Official" guide https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...oid-efs-backup-and-more.475142/#post-15431571)
Unlock the bootloader
Flash TWRP
Flash dm-verity
Flash OOS 3.5.3 from the ROM page, I have a mirror too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/zip-flashable-firmware-modem-t3509015) mirror on pg 2.
and you'll be set, you can flash the original recovery if it's available on the OnePlus page as well and relock to go back to full stock just English version
PS: Since there is no stock recovery image available yet, maybe will have to run TWRP temporarily, rip the recovery off and then proceed? I dunno
Thanks for your quick reply! I was hoping more along the lines of the adb Sideload method and keep the bootloader locked for now though. If I go the root method sure I can share the nandroid backup.
PS the rom looks really similar to the oxygen rom, so far it looks like only the launcher is different. I guess this is part of the plan to merge the two.
Well you can try flashing the image straight. It's a stock image anyways so it could work.

Basically what I meant was to do the opposite of what is suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-h2os-2-5-oneplus-3t-released-t3511443 but with the 3.5.3 ROM
Help needed with android pay and OOS clean install
I'm in a similar situation with a chinese bought OnePlus 3G from Lazada.sg that came with Hydrogen OS. I've managed to install TWRP but because I'm completely new, got stuck and instead managed to install OOS 3.5 (now 4.## from the official website) using adb sideload.
I do have 2 questions:
1) My internet connection drops occasionally even though my WiFi is still connected, is that an issue because I might not have installed it correctly? Would a clean flash solve it?
2) I understand android pay is disabled when you unlock bootloader but even after that, will it be possible to wipe the phone clean and do a fresh install of the lastest OOS and the phone will pretty much be like the international version, with android pay re-enabled?
I believe you can use Sultanxda's patch as another way around, but it sounds complicated as hell for a new person, so I'll continue digging around while waiting for a reply.
Thank you, and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

will an unlocked bootloader cause updates to fail? any help would be appreciated.

Hi All,
I hope I am asking in the right area and forgive me if I havent.
I have a Mi Mix 128gb running Niui Global 8.0 Stable 8.0.7.0.0 MAHCNDI which I believe is a vendor rom? I try to go into updates as I see on the MIUI website there is a version 8.0.10.0. and I would like to update to that.
-I tried the update button where it takes a few seconds saying checking and comes back with no updates available.
-I then tried the choose update package in the update app and chose the rom I moved onto the phone (not in a folder as specified) and it says getting info and then comes back 'couldnt verify update package'.
-I then tried the reboot to recovery mode and named the rom 'update.zip' as specified and all I got when I tried to enter reboot to recovery mode from the actual update app was a black screen wth a phone and a cord plugged in and a website address, no graphical selection tool where I was able to select using volume up and down etc.
I had read somewhere it could be due to the fact that when the vendor flashed the global rom they may have left the bootloader unlocked and that is why the phone isnt finding the update or running it from the file on the phone.
Does this make any sense or am I just missing everything and doing something wrong?
If it is the unlocked can I lock it again to so that I am able to update.
I did try the other thread on verifying the bootloader and how to type in the command to relock it but I wasnt able to use the ADB as I am not all together familiar on how to use it.
If anyone out there can give me a hand I would be forever grateful and I would ask that if you can help that it be as detailed as possible as I need all the help I can get
Thanks so much in advance
Dis you get your Mi Mix from a vendor who loaded Gapps for you? I think that 8.0.7.0.0 is a vendor ROM, not the CN Stable or EU Stable ROM.
I suggest you find the ROM guideline thread here and update to the CN or EU Stable ROM
Best
J
It is definitely a vendor rom. To begin with, this phone has no Official Global rom yet. It states it is a global rom but in the Rom name it contains the letter CN, which identifies the rom as the chinese rom. Therefor yes, it is a vendor rom.
I don't have the phone yet so take my advice with a grain of salt, but i'm pretty sure that an unlocked bootloader does not interfere with installing roms/getting ota updates etc. Sorry, with an unlocked bootloader you can't get OTA updates. But you've got a vendor rom so you wouldn't be able to get one in the first place even with a locked bootloader.
I think that if your bootloader is really unlocked, the fastest and easiest way to flash the newest rom would be by using the MiFlash program from Xiaomi. Here's a guide for that:
http://en.miui.com/thread-307744-1-1.html
(Method 3, Step 2)
Let me know if you managed to flash it.

If by "google movies" you're referring to movies downloaded from google play, then make sure you disable download manager in the Miui appstore settings. It connects to a chinese proxy and therefor is buggy and really slow.
Thanks to everyone on this forum as I now have a EU rom running on my mix and everything is working. I can download and watch movies from Google Play, I can watch and download Netflix and Google Contacts (the app not sync) now installs and works. Now this is the phone I wanted it to be and I am thrilled.

Just follow the directions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix/development/recovery-official-twrp-xiaomi-mi-mix-t3498960
And you shouldn't have any issues.
Did your phone come with the Global 8.0 Stable 8.0.7.0.0 MAHCNDI s that is what mine started with and the only issue was that I had to use the ADL mode to get the phone to recognize and take the TWRP so I could get the EU rom working. Been using it for a few days now and no issues whatsoever. Good luck!

Downgrade 4.1.3 to 4.1.1 (and beyond)

Hi all,
I am having issues with my Bluetooth and GSM. I am considering trying to downgrade from OOS 4.1.3 to 4.1.1. I am completely stock, not rooted and don't even have TWRP.
Would appreciate some clarification to the following questions:
1) Can I downgrade by just flashing the official full 4.1.1 zip found in OP website?
2) Should I only flash the modem zip? And if so, can I use 4.1.1 modem while having 4.1.3 installed?
3) Since 4.1.1 already has nougat 7.1.1, is 1) also safe for further downgrades, for example, directly to 4.0.4?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Oldiamond
If your bootloader is locked, you can't downgrade (unless you exploit the security vulnerability from a few weeks back).
If your bootloader is unlocked, use TWRP or fastboot to clean flash whatever version of OOS you want.
You should consider flashing the latest open beta release, I think it's already fixed over there plus there are some Extra goodies and its stable as ****

Thanks to both. I am this close to send it back to RMA, as I did not install anything other than 4.1.3, and didn't even unroot it. I don't know... perhaps by sending it back without ever installing TWRP or unlocking anything would provide more feedback to the manufacturer, other than saying "damn guy, started fiddling with the phone and ROMs, and here's the result".
Regarding the beta, I initially considered avoiding it because i read in the forums about issues such as sometimes alarms not ringing. I figure that my boss wouldn't like that
Going back from BETA to regular version also requires TWRP?
Best regards,
Old

Alarm issues were fixed, also it never happened to me I and I've been on beta a long time i think on the official page there are the steps to switch between stable and beta. I don't think it requires twrp but don't take my word for it.

Just got my R1 HD - is it safe to update to current OTA release?

Before rooting/removing ads etc, I want to use the phone for a week or so stock so Ill have a baseline to compare it to.
Would it be OK to let the phone update fully while using it? I know with some devices (Amazon kindle) if you update it to a certain point, then there is no going back and the bootloader gets locked.
Lemme know what you think.

If you allow it to update, you will not be able to unlock bootloader, so if you want to root do not update.
The latest update has been posted in this forum, so you are not missing any of the update by rooting either.

Is the root junky method still good?
https://youtu.be/KMobKWfZbJg
Or should I follow a different guide? I know some of his files on his website are outdated.
I also am having a problem when trying to use the flashtool. When I plug my phone in powered off, at first it says the battery is low no matter what, then disconnects, then says 95% or whatever it is. This is preventing me from using flashtool when in download mode.
Any idea why this is happening? My r1 hd is on 6.0 btw

All the R1-HD line is on Android 6.0
The Blu release version is what changes.
I believe this was the order
6.1
6.4
6.5
6.6
7.4.2
8.3
8.4
The flashtool stopped working at v6.6
The new method was the use dirty cow. There is a tool thread for directions.

So the phone is brand new from Amazon, haven't touched it or even connected it to the internet. Not home right now, but I remember seeing software version 6.0 not Android 6.0.
Anyways, I guess I should look into the dirty cow method. Do you have the link?

Is there a ROM i should flash afterwards?
I just installed twrp using the dirty cow method (steps 1-4), and then also did step 5-1 (install supersu).
At this point, in the past Ive always just flashed a brand new rom and gapps. Is there a "stock" rom that I should flash with twrp - which is just the stock rom with no ads? And which build should I? Im on 6.6 right now.
Ive read that lineage has some problems with the camera - no big deal ill roll will the stock non-ad rom for now.
Thanks again!

So the non-prime ROMs latest is v21 it comes with none of the prime ads.
Or v8.4 that came with the ads but they were removed. .some have said n-ify not working on 8.4 but does on 21. I do not know first hand.

You will have to do SuperSU again after the rom

Last question(s):
So I installed V21, supersu, removed ALL amazon with dirtycow.
1. Is my phone now disabled from receiving OTA updates? Or do I have to do something else to make sure auto updates are OFF.
2. Is there a way to remove this stupid blu app (blu help) that keep requiring me to register my device? Every time I power on I have to force stop the app or I have a constant notification to do it.

The debloat done with the tool supposed to have disabled the ota checker program.
And as a second method of not getting ota, having twrp and root will also make the ota fail even if it was to download.
The Blu app is called warrenteer. What I do is belete the whole folder.
/system/priv-app/warrenteer
You can take baby steps and just rename the apk inside that folder to add "-" or "_" to end of it's name
This can be done with a root explorer app or with recovery file manager. Either way.

Downgrading from Bootloader 5 to Bootloader 4 in Note 9 Exynos

Hi everyone,
I had updated my Galaxy Note 9 with March 2020 update and I am one among many poor souls who are suffering from display discoloration, horizontal lines during low brightness and over heating.
- I have tried all possible methods as suggested by Samsung team in their US community page, tried factory reset multiple times, nothing worked. Took screenshots of the screen and shared it to other to check if the problem is with display, but the screenshots were just fine, no colour distortion or verticle lines. So i am of the opinion that, its basically software glitch in March update.
So, I have some following specific queries. I tried looking for these queries in the forum but did not find any, so, have collated all my queries below:
- My current Bootloader version is 5. Is there any process by which i can downgrade my Bootloader from 5 to 4? I would like to go back to January update.
- If I root my phone and install custom rom (latest version of Linage OS. You guys can suggest a good OS, if you have tried one), will the display problem be solved?
- After installing custom rom as mentioned above, can I go back and install stock firmware with Bootloader version 4?
As you can see, I am just trying to find a solution to come out of display problem. Any other suggestions or any tried and tested solutions are welcome.
Thanks everyone in advance

I am facing same issue ...display distortion from 20% to 80% ..after that display looks fine.
I tried to downgrade to pie ..still no success...it has same issue...
I also believe that its software issue or some connection issue
Sue samsung for trying to force user to change screen. Samsung's screen is so expensive. Apple was fined for throttling the iphones.

What is causing the distortion? Sofware bug? Can shot a picture showing the issue?

Ita all over the internet. Just Google Samsung galaxy note 9 display discoloration.
I don't know if this will solve your problem but you would be able to flash a Android 9 ROM on a Android 10 bootloader. If you're like me you hate Android 10. What you do is you flash Android 9 bootloader made for twrp flash the Android 9 rom of your choice. Than flash the Android 10 bootloader that you want via Odin, than fastly reflash twrp for Android 10
For me it works but I kind of jerry-rigged it to work. I regret every day updating to Android 10 but since I'm able to still run Android 9 on an Android 10 bootloader, I'm okay with that.
Hope this kind of help you.

I don't know if this will solve your problem but you would be able to flash a Android 9 ROM on a Android 10 bootloader. If you're like me you hate Android 10. What you do is you flash Android 9 bootloader made for twrp flash the Android 9 rom of your choice. Than flash the Android 10 bootloader that you want via Odin, than fastly reflash twrp for Android 10

only way is to trip knox by rooting and then flashing an android 9 rom. as you know once it has been tripped you will instantly lose access to samsung pay, secure folders etc. however on the plus side you have the choice of root or non root.
Hi guys,
Me and my mum are experiencing a similar situation.... I'm trying to downgrade my galaxy Note8 boot-loader, everything was working till I press the button to upgrade. Now I cant use any memory card all i see is 'the Sandisk card is not supported' and for my mum's Note 9 when she activates the biometric sensor the phone restarts each 15 - 30 mins. I always bought Samsung but now I'm considering to don't do it anymore...
How do you install android pie over android 10 BL

Hi, ok so assuming we don't care about tripping knox, rooting and flash.. still, how would this be done?
I'm on a SM-N9600 atm, with latest Android 10, rooted and TWRP installed. Where do I find a custom Android 9 Rom (compatible with my model) that I can flash via TWRP?
Thanks in advance

All you do is just flash the android 9 rom. Downgrading the bootloader makes no difference if you have already unlocked it. The whole point of it is for people who are on later bootloaders and still have knox and want to go to android 9 which is not possible without the trip.

Hi @A|ex , thanks for your answer. I still don't know where I can find a custom Android 9 rom, compatible with Note 9 snapdragon (SM-N9600) that I could flash via TWRP... (Assuming it's impossible to flash stock Android 9 via Odin even if my phone is currently already rooted on latest Android 10 (bootloader == 5).
Here on XDA there are some ROMs for the Exynos model but nothing except the 'WETA' rom for Snapdragon model, which is not a full rom anyway from what I understand.
If you could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated: where can I find a custom Android 9 rom, flashable via TWRP, compatible with a rooted SM-N9600 (currently on latest Android 10, with a BL==5, unlocked)?
Thanks again for any help!!
