Please let me know if you are using any pixel launcher for your Note 8!

Been using this one for a while.

Just got my USA (Global) version RM3. It appears DARK mode is borked. If I change to dark mode in the settings, the settings menu stays bright white. Disappointing.
Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to change the 3 button navigation bar whatsoever! No reordering the buttons, no hiding the navigation bar, and NO GESTURE NAVIGATION! WTH? This is Android Pie. Why did Nubia remove this option? Apparently gesture navigation IS available on the Chinese model of this phone. Hugely disappointing.
Lastly, no way to theme the phone is disappointing, but not a deal breaker at all.
Here's a video of the Chinese Rom. Look at 5:50 in the video. The settings menu is in dark mode and completely different! Also notice that the stock home screen of the launcher has a nice theme with custom icons that are not present in the Global version.

Hi,
Yes, you're doing the same experience than a large number of other early adopters.
About the Gestures : it is indeed really surprising that this feature has been removes as it is a real function in Android 9. However, this is really simple to circumvent and in a really easy and covnenient manner. Just install Fluid N.G.n enable it with ADB and configure to your likings => there you go, gestures as you want them
The absence of Theming is indeed quite annoying. But even more annoying is the "Dark Mode" not functionning. I still rather have a function that is not present than one that appears and does not work. I have good hope that an update will solvez the problem.
But of course what you're saying here is just the most visible part...
Is there a way to have Always On Display, which is a feature that is a must have on AMOLED ? Not that I have seen...
Is there a way to sync with the simple touch of a Quick Setting tile ? Not that I have seen...
Is there a way to set the display heu/saturation and the refresh rate ? Not that I have seen, unless in Game mode where you can set the refresh rate but obviously only at gaming...
This is a really nice device, but it is so far plagued with a B.A.D. software.
But as it has been released really recently, there is still hope that some software updates might solve these problems.
Regards.

So, is the refresh rate of the screen set to 90hz ALWAYS, or does the 90hz only work when you are in the game space mode?

Hi,
I can't say.
There's no way to measure that...
I would guess 60Hz in non gaming mode, and maybe 90Hz if in Gaming mode.
But that is just a guess and I'd like to be proven otherwise.
Software on this toy is really poor
You can set it automaticor manually to 60 or 90

Hi,
Thanks... I know that.
But the setting is for the gaming mode is it not ?
So the question is still the same : if I set the refresh rate to 90hz in the gaming settings, does this affect the refresh rate in gaming mode only or for all uses ?
Regards.
The screen prob stays at 90hz all the time, most games tho won't go any higher then 60fps so the 90hz is mostly beneficial in the menu's and website scrolling.
Pubg runs at around 60fps and fortnite at around 30fps, there are some other games tho that support a higher refresh rate.

It's always 90hz, only in game mode you can choose 60hz.

The Global ROM is not RedMagic OS 2.0 at all...
It's just stock Android with minor tweaks
Does the USA version have any difference form global version?
Edit: forget to added question mark. XD

They are the same. The Chinese version is the one that is vastly different with a cool theme, custom icons, working dark mode (even in settings menu), and gesture navigation. But that version has no Google apps or framework.

I follow MANY tech YouTubers. None of them were able to successfully install Google apps or services onto the Chinese variant of this phone. I suspect that's why the USA/GLOBAL version of the phone has a much more vanilla android skin than the Chinese version which is heavily modified.
The Chinese rom isnt heavily modified, yes it contains more features then the global rom but its still very stock like.
Google services is working perfectly on my Chinese rom btw, no problem installing huge apps etcetera.

Your Chinese variant only comes with 6GB of Ram? That sucks. Looks like the global models comes with 8GB minimum.

Like you would ever use more then 4gb of ram with an app on Android
More ram is a profit point for company's and doesnt give more performance to the user, unless you enjoy switching between 20+ programs all the time.

I'll happily take more ram over less any day.
Do you have any Google sync/notification issues on the Chinese ROM? Also, can you cross flash ROMs from the Global->Chinese and vice versa?

I have no way to change APN settings under settings in mobile network!
I'm thinking of getting a mi9 to replace my mi A2 (mainly for a better camera and faster processor), however I really like the stock Android experience in the mi A2. I'm considering getting the mi9 and then putting on the pixel experience ROM.
Is it stable enough to be a daily driver? I'm a heavy phone user as I travel a lot and use the phone for work, videos and light gaming
I use ROS, all good for me.
I wouldn't recommend the mi 9 for you.
There are several roms that offer the clean android experience for the mi 9, like pixel experience rom.
None of them offers full stability and usability of the miui roms.
If you can live with miui, you can install 3rd party launchers, such as nova with Google companion, which will feel like stock android launcher with extra customability.

Thanks for the comment, very helpful.
I don't think I can live with MIUI, I've just come from mate 20 pro and emui drive me bonkers. Looks like a OnePlus then
There is LOS from Cosmin which is stable and super fast.

Meizu FlymeOS 8 Live Wallpapers, ported to any Android 5.0+ device!
Hi there! This thread features an update to my Meizu FlymeOS 8 Live Wallpapers port, now featuring a total of 15 Live Wallpapers!
Features included with these wallpapers:
Ported straight from FlymeOS 8. These live wallpapers are not just videos/screencaps. from a device, they are the actual Live Wallpapers, created by Meizu.
Adapted to work on AOSP-based ROMs. The wallpapers were integrated as part of their SDK, so a bit of work was needed in order to make them work on any Android device.
Works on Android 5.0 and up!. These are the only Live Wallpapers I've ported that are able to run on a 98% of the current Android device userbase (version-wise).
Live Wallpapers available:
We currently have the following live wallpapers available, divided in 3 categories:
A set of 3D Live Wallpapers, which includes: Snowy Mountain, Ancient Golden Lava, Cold Granite, Rose, Blue Anemone and Crystallized Petal. (NEW!)
A set of Bubble wallpapers, which includes: Blueberry Soda, Coffee Soda, Matcha Latte, Peach Oolong and Wave Soda.
A set of moving wallpapers, which includes: The Wave, Deep Diving, The Ripple. (NEW!)
Want to see how they look like when applied?:
Check them out on this Twitter thread!
Special thanks to n0white for providing the original SDKStage APKs to port them.
(download link in case the image doesn't work)
Doesn't work on Samsung Galaxy A51, One UI 2.5. Crash app.
Many wallpapers crashing on my mi redmi 9 prime, running miui 11 based on android 10...MTK helio G80...
Zenfone 7 Android 10, Works without problem
All the 3D ones keeps crashing on me, everything else (moving wallpapers and Bubble) just works. Probably something on Samsung's end, not that big for me since those ones aren't really my cup of tea. Running OneUI 2.0 with Exynos.
Looks great on Oneplus 8T+!
Thanks, you're the best!
On Pixel 3a , all stock, the 3D lwp are just still images
I feel as if you should mention arm-v8 as a requirement... Or port it, that would be cool too ?
On Pixel 4 everything works flawlessly!!! :good:
Can we have these nice wallpapers in mp4 video for phone call background or lock screen only?
Thanks

Here you go. Extracted from the latest version. @linuxct, feel free to delete this if it's against any rule.
Works perfect on oneplus 8 oos11 OB3 global rom.
Works perfectly on OP5 android 10
Ancient Golden Laca, Blue Annemone, Cold Granite, Crystallised Petal, Rose, Snowy Mountain aren't working on Note 20 Ultra (OneUi 3.0 beta).
In Note 20 Ultra 5G with OneUi 2.5 is giving errors in Ancient Golden Lava, Blue Anemone, Cold Granite, Crystallized Petal, Rose and Snowy Montain .. The others are working perfectly excellent work :good:
Hello, few years ago test a rom with google photos unlimited, but i don't remember it
I'm not interested in anything else, just that functionality.
I remember that it was authenticated as if it were a pixel 1.
Pixel Experience.
It mocks a Pixel phone, however, there have been some changes since the Pixel 1.
Now, unlimited storage does not work for original quality pictures. But works for the reduced ones.
And it also works starting from Pixel 2 AFAIK.

You mean there is no ROM with unlimited google photos anymore?
I just installed pixel experience and I see it works like pixel 2,3,4,5 lets you upload with compression but not at original quality.
There is no rom that does? I remember back in the day trying one (can't remember the name) that emulated a pixel 1.

The one that you remember is Pixel Experience, and I'm telling you, unlimited storage has been gone for all Pixel devices, in term of original quality photo upload.
However, unlimited photo upload for reduced quality still works just fine. It works starting from Pixel 2.

Pixel 1 has original quality upload as per google's support page.
I am using derpfest for A20 and it works like a charm.
