Not sure what you mean, but this is a stock kdz. It can be used to upgrade from a previous version or to restore to this version, if somebody figures out/or applies a fix to the LGUP dll problem associated with the V40/this firmware.

Where can we download LG flash tool? And my understanding is we can't crosflash these kdzs right? Meaning this unlocked US version can't be flashed on At&t v40?

I've been out of the lg loop so I couldn't tell you where to find flashtool exactly, but I'm sure it's all over xda in the lg links. But as far as flashing firmware, for let's say a t-mobile phone, on to an att phone, could spell disaster. Wrong firmware=bad day
Yeah, as far as I'm aware you absolutely cannot do that unless you are asking for a brick. But on another note, I can't even get LGUP or Flash Tool working with the LG V40 at all, so even with the right model, and firmware which I have, I cannot use this kdz. I just posted it for others who know more than me to see if they could do anything. I haven't tried looking at the DLL's with a hex editor yet though.
Hi everyone so there is not tool to flash kdz on V40?
even w useragent it show 400 right now - is this link still correct?

Not sure if they removed the download, because a newer version was released, or they patched this method altogether. I haven't yet tried to get the link for the newest version, and don't really planning on soon anyway, somebody found out that the current DLL has a check for LGUP 1.16 when we don't even have 1.15, so unless an LG employee leaks that, or somebody is willing to modify the DLL and then attempt to flash using the patched DLL, there isn't much point in downloading these kdz's I feel..

I'm interested in crossflashing LG V40. I did that on LG V30+ twice. Here is the XDA topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/using-lgup-crossflashing-t3780969
My YouTube Tutorial:
I had LG V30+ (us998) on Sprint and all the bloatwares. I used patched LGUP & DLL file and flash ls998 witch is unlocked V30 kdz. Ot worked prefect. Then i tried to flash some another kdz file, didn't succeed, brick the phone. But then i use CHIP erase and tried to flash ls998 (unlocked) on it. And it worked but that delete serial number and other details. Bc i did chip erase. But phone worked fine at the end?

Here are the latest stock retail builds packaged into TWRP flashable format.
You can use these files to upgrade and downgrade stock builds safely, as they do not include gpt (partition table) or bootloader.
Usage is simple:
Copy file to device storage
Reboot into TWRP
Flash zip
Profit!
Please remember to hit the "THANKS" button if these files help you!
NOTES:
Dm-verity and force encryption have been disabled in the boot images, and unlocked device/dm-verity warnings have been disabled in the logo images.
Do NOT attempt to apply standard OTAs over these builds; they will fail.
If you get an OTA for a build that's not yet available, please share it!
How To Pull An OTA update:
Download the update
Power off and boot into TWRP
Go to Advanced > File Manager
Navigate to /cache
There will be a Blur_Version_blah.zip file

So the 118-19-6 is good for the XT1710-01 Retail directly from Motorola?
I'm on the stock 118-9 version, Security Update of July 1st, and Android 7.1.1. No OTA update available when I check.

Dude, what did I just say? I DON'T KNOW.
I'm sure it will work, but it may take you off your official upgrade path.
And with no fastboot file available for your current software version, I would take a full TWRP backup and copy to pc for safekeeping before trying anything.

I'm going to buy my z2 play bike at the end of the year and it's a shame not to have an updated lite rom. Probably you should be doing a good job.
It would be nice to have a rom lite for ALL MODEL with deodex, delete more apps OTA / CCC / CCE, OTA process is deleted, remove a lot of the background services collect and send data on the type of phone (DropBox, MotoCare , MotoConntect, Drive and etc).

Updated the OP with the latest retail build NPSS26.118-19-11.
Unlike most carrier unlocked moto devices, which tend to have multiple upgrade paths for different regions, the albus seems to have only one upgrade path for the retail variant so far.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, and please post the OTA files for alternate upgrade paths if you have them; directions are in the OP.
I have linked the tools I use to create these at the bottom of the OP.
You can use these tools and info in their threads to reverse engineer the stock build and modify it to your liking.

The file name structure doesn't have anything to do with the date it was made afaik.
That update is for "albus_c" and not "albus". I'm not sure what the difference is.
Apparently, there are multiple upgrade paths after all.
Flashing this will likely take you off your current upgrade path, but it is safe, so you can always go back to your previous stock build if you want.

Thanks @Q9Nap!
I've attempted to follow your instructions about applying OTA via TWRP, but that fails because of mismatching thumbprint - which sounds odd since I've downloaded and attempted to flash on exactly the same device...
Anyway, I'll try soon to flash the full stock ROM, after download from the link you've re-posted.

@Q9Nap can you put a tutorial on here telling us how to make a update flashable
For those who aren't already aware, N960U is the model number of all of the US carrier versions of the Note 9. The N960U1 is the model number of the same device, but sold by Samsung SIM unlocked and with no carrier bloatware. Firmware is 100% interchangeable among these models: any U or U1 firmware version can be flashed to any U or U1 device at any time, assuming that you're not trying to downgrade the bootloader. A "U to U" or "U1 to U1" flash does not require a factory reset, but changing from one firmware to the other will require one. Also, U firmware is identical for the 4 base files (AP, BL, CP, CSC) for each individual build, no matter which carrier it comes from. So if you download 2 different carrier versions of the exact same build, the 4 base files will be identical. Where the firmware differs is in the USERDATA file - that's where the carrier bloatware and customizations reside.
Manual Odin flashing is designed for those who:
- want to manually update to a newer version of U firmware on their U device, either because they don't want to wait for their carrier's OTA or because OTAs aren't working on their device, or a different carrier got a new feature/patch before they did
- want to flash U1 firmware to their U device
- want to convert from U1 firmware to carrier U firmware
- want to convert from one carrier's U firmware (with all apps and bloatware) to a different carrier's U firmware (with all apps and bloatware)
For those who aren't already aware, anyone can now download firmware for almost any Samsung device any time that they want, via the various firmware download tools posted here on XDA like SamFirm or Frija. There are threads and info about them here on XDA so I won't waste time explaining - do a search if you're not already familiar with these tools. But they only provide whatever the latest/newest/current version is - nothing older. I pay for a subscription to a site that gets the official releases (usually) before they hit the firmware download tools, so that's where my files come from.
This is not a "beginner's guide to Odin flashing" -type post/thread, so I won't list basic, step-by-step flashing instructions. My threads are geared towards those who already know what they're doing. If you're new to manually flashing Samsung firmware (or haven't done it in a long time), I recommend you consult one of those "beginner's" guides- there are tons of them here on XDA.
Happy flashing!
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=282951
Notes:
- DON'T QUOTE THE OP WHEN YOU REPLY, kthx
- I have lots of threads just like this one for other Samsung flagships, if it interests you. For those who have already made use of my previous threads for a different device and are upgrading to a Note 9, welcome back
- My zips are compressed extra small for space and bandwidth savings. The default Windows extractor can't handle it, so you'll need a 3rd party tool like 7zip, WinRAR, etc
- it's quite time consuming to download the files, zip them up, and upload them to AFH. And, I do threads like this for every single Sx and Note x model, so I won't be uploading every single version. The only full builds that I upload are ones where I get access to a new bootloader and/or Android version early, before they hit the firmware download tools.
- My naming method for folders on AFH is: build - bootloader - Android version
So "SAT - 1 - 9.0" means the full build number ends in SAT, it's bootloader version 1, and it's Android 9.0. When bootloader and Android versions increment, the first build to have those changes will have its folder notated appropriately.
- HOME CSC file keeps data intact; using the other CSC will wipe data. Flashing USERDATA will also wipe data.
- Since AT&T doesn't allow their firmware to be publicly available (for any of their devices), I'll try to always upload at least one USERDATA per bootloader increment for AT&T (and Cricket, if they get this model). I'll also upload any full builds if AT&T is the only carrier to get that specific build, because you won't be able to find the files anywhere else.
- For identifying USERDATAS, and to know what region/CSC to use in the firmware download tools if you're downloading yourself:
AIO = Cricket (not available via firmware download tools)
ATT = AT&T (not available via firmware download tools)
BST = Boost Mobile
CCT = Xfinity Mobile (Comcast)
CHA = Spectrum Mobile (Charter)
DSH = Dish Network
SPR = Sprint
TMB = T-Mobile
TMK = Metro PCS
USC = US Cellular
VZW = Verizon (available via firmware download tools, but Manual Entry is required - Auto will not work)
XAA = U1 firmware
- the correct procedure for switching from one carrier's firmware to another carrier's firmware is:
1. Flash full U1 firmware package including non HOME CSC
2. Upon boot, insert a SIM of the carrier whose firmware you want
3. Watch for the popup that says "reboot to apply new carrier settings" etc, and do it
4. After that restart completes, reboot back to Download mode and flash the full U firmware package, with the USERDATA file of the carrier whose firmware you want

I'm currently on N960USQS2CSGB with my phone being on AT&T's network. Originally it was a Verizon note 9 and I swapped the SIM card. I then flashed the unlocked firmware to it to try to get VoLTE to work, but that didn't work so I flashed N960USQS2CSGA to the phone in hopes that I could get AT&T's firmware working. If I'm understanding correctly the USERDATA is where all the AT&T specific software and code is, so I'm wondering if I flash just the USERDATA, could I get the AT&T specific features to work. I got the OTA update to N960USQS2CSGB but that didn't fix the issue.

Thanks! I guess I'll be buying a new phone then, because I'm missing calls. The phone has to drop down from LTE to make or receive a call and it takes several seconds. I've had people call me and it ring all the way through before my phone steps down. When I make a call it takes about 10-15 seconds before it rings out. Oh well, I appreciate your help and quick replies!

Before you buy a new phone, try flashing the latest AT&T update from here along with the user data from this thread if that download doesn't contain it. (It should). I'm trying to download to verify but it's only downloading at 1 MB/s for me.

These are used for converting from one carrier's U firmware to AT&T's, or from U1 firmware back to U firmware with AT&T features and bloat. I know these are much tougher to find than other carriers' files - they can't be obtained from SamFirm or SamMobile. So I'll be uploading at least one for each bootloader version. Firmware is universal on U models so you can use the other 4 Odin files from any other firmware of the same build. Can probably even mix and match builds (as long as the Android version is the same), if you can't find files for the exact same build. Can't mix and match bootloaders though, so the other 4 files have to at least be from the same bootloader.
- I remove the .md5 from each file solely for faster flashing (Odin won't check the hash without it). Rest assured, the files are perfectly fine and safe - Odin has a million safechecks built in.
- My naming method for AFH folders is: build - bootloader - Android version.
So "SAT - 1 - 9.0" means the full build number ends in SAT, it's bootloader version 1, and it's Android 9.0. When bootloader and Android versions increment, the first build to have those changes will have its folder notated appropriately.
- USERDATAs for any other CSCs can be gotten from SamFirm - for the latest version. If you need an old USERDATA for a CSC that's not commonly found on SamMobile (ACG, LRA, TFN, etc), let me know and I can probably get it.

Do you ha e the user data for SGB-2? I saw that you have SGA-2. Interchangeable? Or if they are not, do you have SGB-2?
Noob question but if I do flash the N960USQU2CSGA firmware for AT&T with the USERDATA provided here, I should be good for my unlocked Note 9 which is on N960U1UES2CSF9 right?
Also I would be able to get future updates OTA since I have an AT&T sim, right?
Thanks!

Hello all!
I have found that Sprint is beta testing Pie for the V40 and sure enough I was able to find a guide and download for beta version. I haven't found anything to be unstable about it and everything seems to work. The original guide says to do it only on software version v18d but I was on version u18d.
Here you go: (Information is copied from mylgphones.com)
Download: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tEfx0UcGIACVg5LYTWOs4TdzOKfWvzbF
How to manually upgrade Sprint LG V40 ThinQ to Android 9.0 Pie via OTA
1. Download LMV405UA3-V15d-310-to-LMV405UA3-V20a-310.up
2. Rename the file to LGUP_FOTA.up
3. Place the file in the root of internal storage on your LG V40 ThinQ
3a. Make sure phone is charged above 80%
4. Download “Activity Launcher” from Play Store
5. Find FOTA Update
6. Hit the first option (com.lge.lgfota.permission.FotaTestActivity)
7. Follow prompts.
8. After completion, tap FOTA REBOOT
9. Phone restarts and will get hung up on Sprint logo during boot. Be patient and it will load into Android. (Took about 5min for me)
(Posted here because I don't have enough posts to start a thread in the development section)
Thanks to mylgphones.com for the guide and link.

Probably would want to go back to stock and then update to this. Hopefully someone that has more experience would be able to tell you more definitively.
That's the problem, I can't go back to stock Sprint because there are no kdz for it
Doesn't work for me
Yeah I have followed the steps closely however it doesnt work for me at all after multiple tries.
Do not attempt to flash this ..

I would have to say YES .. I tried the above to also fail .. when I went to the original page (I included link) - I did contact and received and email back within 30 minutes .. with an attached picture showing the HEX entry that was changed and a link to another file to use .. the new file worked perfectly

Yes .. and as you can see, it only worked for YOU .. the link provided to me from my email was different than yours .. so I would edited the original posting to state that you must contact in order to receive your own personal link.

I don't have my V40 to try this but it worked on the V50
thx to aiap this was his workaround
I ended up not using LGUP, instead this is how I did it. (Make sure to backup, for some reason I had to factory reset because mine was stuck rebooting after "android is installing" notification completed.)
STEPS:
1. Download .up file: (thanks @chortya)
2. Rename file to LGUP_FOTA.up
3. Place file in base directory of internal storage on V50.
4. Download "Activity Launcher" from Play Store
5. Find FOTA Update
6. Hit the first option (com.lge.lgfota.permission.FotaTestActivity)
7. Follow prompts.
worked slick on my sprint v40 ThinQ. emailed. downloaded. renamed. installed. no issues here. followed instructions and only displayed the sprint splash screen for a few seconds after reboot. thanks OP and every other contributor. I'm in Canada on koodo with the v40 so likely was never going to get an OTA update. now I can retire my s8+ and actually start using my v40
Emailed and got a link. Downloaded and changed name and dropped in root and followed steps and worked. Took a while to install but everything seems fine so far
Just completed the update last.. everything is working good thank you.
How do I go back to stock... No kdz, I want to use this
What happens now that Sprint is upgrading to pie on the 3rd? Also this pie version seems sluggish if in running 2 apps at once.
I didn't receive a reply when emailing them.
Hi all,
I have managed to install Android Pie on the ATT locked bootloader H871 as they still haven't released it yet.
NOTE: Flashing this version of the android pie (from H873 actually) will remove VoLTE and Wifi Calling if you are on ATT (didn't use these much anyways), there is NO way to go back to H871 rom as ATT does not make their firmware public.
ANOTHER NOTE: Android Pie runs ultra smooth on the H871 device compared to the extreme bloatware that ATT loaded in to the default oreo that you are running right now.
There are two very important steps to go through in order to do this.
1. We will flash our H871 with H87320i (remember the 20i).
2. Then we will flash the fake H87320i (it fools the LG updater) with H87330b. This is the android pie.
For the first step use this xda tutorial (don't use the kdz that he provides, download the kdz from here instead https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/18274/H87320i_00_OPEN_CA_OP_0204 the remaining steps are the same)
XDA First Step link -- https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848
For the second major step uninstall all the LG stuff that you installed in the previous step and follow this tutorial (make sure to use the 30b firmware provided in the xda post itself unlike last time)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/lg-g6-h873-pie-beta-tutorial-t3968659
Note -- Instead of using FOTA, you can also just go into download mode and use the update/upgrade option (much quicker for me)
Let me know if you have any questions!
Cool I have a lot of LG G6 and I have a H871 and I am looking into this.
(BTW, don't put guide here.)
Doesn't work on my H871 phone
I just tried this. Followed the instructions to the letter.
The first step went fine, and I could see Oreo was deployed successful and the upgrade to H873.
Then, tried the next step. Got all kind of errors when trying to flush the .up file.
No the phone is stuck on "Firmware Update" (download) mode.
Any pointers or help will be highly appreciated.
PLZ
this metod is efective for h871s dual sim ?
Thanks for the guide man, I've been trying to get pie on my lg g6 for the longest time but at&t sucks big time. So do u.s phone models apparently.
I tried rooting the phone at first to try and get pie but I couldn't figure out how. This guide was great man thanks again!
Thank you very much gentleman for sharing the acquired skills, this has been very helpful and allows me to enjoy Android Pie even if it is alternatively working wonderfully.
I want to add that the screen recording does not work, but if they download the App in Apkmirror or similar it will work perfectly.
Help
Do you have any video on how to do it, I'm new to this and I don't want to screw up. some way to contact you so can you help me?

Edit before publishing: I started writing this for all variants other than sprint, but I'll now make a separate thread for variants that have kdzs and those that don't, otherwise this will be a mess.
Firstly, keep in mind that no one is responsible if you end up bricking your device! There is currently no way to recover from a hard brick other than sending your phone in for repair, so make sure you follow every single step carefully if you wish to proceed!
Additionally, flashing an xbl through DD may not pass randomly even if it appears that it has worked, so be aware of the risks. Only at&t users will need to flash the xbls anyway since that is the only variant other than sprint which does not have kdzs available.
Users with the AT&T variant who are stuck on pie: temp root only works on android 10, as such you will unfortunately not be able to bootloader unlock your device. The firehose may leak at some point in a few months, and you will be able to unlock (and update manually) if it does.
The process for unlocking bootloaders on models other than the sprint one (specifically At&t for this guide) is practically identical; however, it uses different xbl_config.img and xbl.img files, which need to be specific for your device from the pie firmware.
The version naming may not be the exact same for other models, but you just have to ensure that you are on the March patch or below. If you are on April, you can find the guide to switch slots and do so in order to revert to March. To STOP UPDATES, fully uninstall or disable the update center packages either with ADB or package disabler pro for LG, which you can easily find online.
So I repeat, you're going to follow the sprint g8 bootloader unlocking guide, but you have to use the xbl and xbl_config for your device rather than the ones provided in the sprint guide. The engineering abl is the same, but I'll include it here anyway so that you don't have to mess around with any of the files provided in the sprint g8 guide.
Now, steps that are to be ignored and steps that may differ slightly:
Keep in mind that I'm only mentioning what you should be aware of and what may be different, but you still have to follow the guide written by BrandonB1218 in general.
1a: Of course, you still need a vulnerable firmware, and sadly AT&T does not provide kdzs, so you cannot bootloader unlock if you are on the May patch.
You can Ignore this: I found that another method that most likely stops updates is following this guide on youtube. It's supposed to bypass frp lock, but it also gets by all the LG agreements you have to accept, so it will ask you to agree to these if you ever open up the software update option in settings and will probably not update if you don't.
2: Some people had issues with different versions of the mroot script, so try all of them before you come asking for help please. I also suggest that you just temp root without running the temp root magisk setup as you may end up bricking if you accidentally flash a module or make magisk flash a patched boot img (DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE GUIDE).
I suggest running the backup script and the commands to make sure you're completely safe, but make sure you keep them separate because a lot of the partitions included in the commands that @BrandonB1218 mentioned are device specific and include your IMEI. The backup script should only backup the partitions that aren't device specific such as system, and this is probably the one you'll need if at all because you shouldn't be touching other partitions. STILL DO BOTH THOUGH
3a: Yes, you have to run the command to find out which slot you're on, but you will not flash anything from the pie or 20d sprint backup that's listed there, or else you will likely brick.
3b and 3c: This should all be the same: If your active slot is A, follow 3b, and if your active slot is B, follow 3c. The commands should also be the same, just with different files.
If your active slot is A, but the files included for your device are also named xbl_a.img, for example, you can just rename them to fit with the command.
Otherwise, you can just change this, for example,
dd if=/storage/emulated/0/Download/xbl_b.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/xbl_b
to this:
dd if=/storage/emulated/0/Download/xbl_a.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/xbl_b
You also need to flash the engineering laf, so either rename the file or change the command so it works. The link is embedded
Overall, its just important that you take the right file in the first part of the command and flash it to the correct partition of the correct slot in the second part.
If I remember correctly, the method to boot into fastboot is hold vol- and power until the screen goes black (while the phone is plugged into the computer) and then to let go of power as soon as that happens.
4a and 4b: You do not want to do either of these as the boot img and other partitions vary per variant. I unfortunately do not have the magisk patched At&t boot img, but you can patch it yourself from the backup you made and flash it. It might be good to do this beforehand, but you could also just temp root again and dd flash it.
Alternatively, you can flash the metaphysics 1.7 kernel with twrp and magisk included, but you still have to follow the rest of the twrp installation in the sprint g8 bl unlocking guide. TWRP is the same for all US variants.
Congrats! You should now be bootloader unlocked and ready to go at this point. If you ever find yourself unable to boot on the slot which DOES NOT have the engineering abl, you can always switch to the slot with the engineering abl, go to fastboot, and fastboot flash your backed up partitions.

Hey, thanks for the guide. I'm rather worried about trying this as LG's newer models are so darn easy to brick. AT&T variant has no LG Bridge support which is incredibly stupid. At least we have kind people like you helping us free our phones
My LG G8 is a secondary phone right now, and as such, I'm very interested in trying this out. Unfortunately, the download link for AT&T_G8.zip give me a 404.
Not shocking that it's still dead. Tried telling antintin on Telegram the day after he posted this that there were issues retrieving the file from here and he blew me off, telling me it was probably because of my country. Tried with home USA network, USA VPN, and UK VPN. ?
