Lumia 1020 interop - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have upgraded my 1020 with GDR2.
with a root access, a reg mod and an update directly after.
I own a Microsoft developper account ID.
i have semi unlocked my Lumia.
Just to know if there a way for interop my unit for really side loading.
Don't know how to make VCREG1.2 working without the Mixradio exploit or SD card exploit...
...and would love to use old store XAP files. (know, it's impossible ?!)
I love my 1020. very smoothy with 8.1.2 ^_^
Thank a lot.

Use windows phone internals to unlock the phone and get root access. If i don't remember wrong, you'll need to unlock the bootloader first(with the same app), after that just sideload vcreg and it will load and work. You don't need to do any app replacement, nor any old method.

Thank a lot for your reply.
But... I can't side load my vcreg.xap with Windows deployment tool.
My 1020 is seen as a mass storage unit (normal in root mode).

EDIT!!!
i managed to start the HTC interop unlock !!!! and now ? what is the next step ????
what can or must i do to unlock this phone ?????
Windows Phone 8 can install xap's, this does not mean it can run or start them if they require interop unlock. Currently interop unlock is not possible.
pffft...finally got this (allmost) working...
it doesn't lett me in several of these folders....
working on it...i will update later...
You can change any value by Registry Editor and save ? (or not - I think so not)
For check you can try to install an application that needs access to the root eg: Shutdown: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21751650&postcount=1
You can install app but not run (when tap, app is back to the apps list).

Oh wait it's only for Windows 8 WTF? There is no way I'm going to upgrade to that crappy os.
Very nice news! Hope to see this on HTC 8X too!
i follow you men!
i have an HTC 8S too, i will install VS 2012 and make DevUnlock with the SDK tools.
i will help you if you need testers, i am just begginer i can not help you to develop.
wp7mktplace cant sign these apps anymore
try other things or already signed homebrew apps
It possible to call all funcs from system dlls. But a lot of funcs returned Access_denied.
How about we all save some time and stop trying this silly idea, huh?
The interop unlock you're trying to install was for older HTC WP7 devices. It doesn't work on newer devices, and it certainly won't work on WP8 devices. The apps won't work for two reasons:
-Your device isn't interop unlocked
-The binaries are compiled for WP7, not WP8. Not even simple innocent apps like Orientation Lock run under WP8, because they aren't compiled correctly for WP8, nor do they use the correct APIs.
What should be encouraged, however, is an evaluation of the OEM apps on the device, to see if any have exploitable holes. I'm guessing that HTC has learned its lesson by now, but hey, worth trying.
Also, I'm curious to see if this XAP will do anything if sideloaded. I'm guessing no, as it won't have interop privileges, but I'm still curious to see what happens.

I'm with you, trust me I want the same thing... I have a edu Dev account and I am sick of the 3 app limit, never mind the lack of custom colors (Advanced Config), It seems a interop unlock for my 8X would be the only thing I need now to enjoy it more.
As long as these apps will work with a 8X of course

[Q] Choosing a WP8.1 phone

Hello people,
I would like to ask for some suggestions before buying my first Windows Phone. (preferably a Lumia)
I would like to buy a WP8.1 phone that can be rooted. I am a little bit confused by all these terminology (flashing, rooting, unlocking, jailbreak, etc...) so let me explain what I mean by rooting:
I need full filesystem access, and the ability to run commands on the phone, install additional software.
The phone is strictly for debugging a certain application, It doesn't matter how the phone looks and such, the only thing matters it need to have Windows 8.1 and I have to be able to root it.
Can you please tell me which Windows 8.1 devices can be rooted currently?
Can you please recommend me such device(s) that is 100% rootable?
No Windows Phone can be 100% rooted.
You can use Developer tools to debugging

Root is a concept derived from Linux. So little Windows Phone users talk about this. For your purpose, the Widows Developer tools should do the trick.
As per my suggestion.
There is Huawei WP8.0 Device. That you can even unlocked Bootloader or can flash custom ROM. (You can update it to the 8.1 or v10)
Other Samsung/Lumia Device (Having SD-Card Support) can be Interop/Capability unlocked to test high-privileges application. (Pure App Developer Mode)
Any WP 8.0 Supports WP 8.1/WP10*

I suggest you a lumia 830, best balance performance and possiblity to hack slot sd card, it's a new series lumia x30 and you can interop ulock it with rom rebuilder or vcreg mods!!
At present, there are no publicly available hacks that I know of for "100% root" on a WP8.x device. Capability unlock - which only requires registry editing - is the closest you can get right now, I think. Interop/capability unlocks typically also mean full file system access - either on-device, via USB, or both - though you may still run into restrictions (for example, you can't edit or delete a file that the OS has a non-shared HANDLE open on).
Samsung phones probably have the most interop/capability-unlock software released for them, but the other options that @djamol suggested above would work too.
theres the developer unlock which gives you more but not 100% root.
as far as is know there is no complete unlock yet for all WP after WP7.
Thank you all, greatly appreciate your input!
I went with Samsung ATIV S !

New to WP - Few Q's

Merry xmas all!
So, a mate give me a 520 to play around with. Very new to WP but with bootloader unlocking and root access I couldnt help myself but to have a looksy.
I have a few Q's though so bear with me, Android is my daily so WP is a whole new world
The 520s currently on update 2 using the registry hack. I presume I should start by downgrading to the Update 1 stock ffu?
Now, if I unlock the bootloader and enable MTP etc with WPI can I still go ahead and use the same trick to get back to Update 2 afterwards seeing as there is no Update 2 ffu available? Would this relock the bootloader?
In regards to the interop thingy, I cant seem to find the best info. One post I found had MixRadio trick in it but MixRadio is not on the store for me.
Basically, what Im trying to accomplish is to have Update 2 with an unlocked bootloader with an app (WPTweaker?) that can do a few visual mods like 3 livetile rows etc I see on the videos. Just something to have a little play with for my first WP
Im guessing WP8 isnt as developed as the old WM5 days with apps like reg editors and file explorers a plenty as I dont seem to see a lot of them around, Im taking it things arent as simple as the old days of running a .cab. Any tips or threads I should e looking at?
Hope you are all as full of turkey and beer as I am
'edit'
Quick update.
Flashed back to the stock ffu, unlocked bootloader and gained root
Stock ffu had Nokia MixRadio installed so am going to look at that later
Still getting my head around the app side of it though, what I can do now is deploy using WPSDK with root but can I also do this directly from the device in a file explorer?

Mass Storage Lumia 1020 (Engineering SBL3 doesnt work)

Hi everbody,
i have two 1020 here. One France version and one German.
In both i unlocked the bootloader succesful and had the engineering SBL3 added to the flashing process.
Now in both of these devices i cant gain access to the mass storage mode via Windows Phone internals 2.8.
Both devices are on WP8.1. The German device has Denim and the France one has Cyan update.
The reason i want mass-storage access is for root, so i can install Lumia Camera again. Both phones have the standard Microsoft cam with very few options.
I softreseted the phone several times while it was doing nothing after it was in flash mode. But every time it gets stuck before it can get to mass storage mode.
PC OS ist Win10pro 1909
Does anybody know why i cant gain acess to the mass storage mode ?
Best regards
interesting.. here's my sbl3 file go try itLink
Hi,
I don't know, if there is a way to install an app via mass storage mode.
I think it is nearly impossible to add new apps to a WP 8.x Lumia as the store is closed and development registration does not work either, so you could deploy manually.
As far as I remember I installed the stock german ROM and Lumia Camera was integrated. You could try an update on one of your Lumias, but always consider that WP8.1 is no more supported by Microsoft and the store is unavailable. As for the camera, a Windows 10 update is not an option. You would get back the App store, but loose at least the 41 MP feature. People write about having 38 MP. Maybe you could buy a third 1020 in ebay-kleinanzeigen with a broken display for testing, update to W10mobile and test the camera features.
Best regards,
Joachim

My advice to you is you use 1020 as mp3 or tablet on windows 10 mobile
just unlock the bootloader and install lumia apps use be good with 8.1 )

Hello everyone!

Hi there, maxbrew here. I just got a Nokia Lumia 520 and windows phone 8.1 (also carrier locked).
I wanted to install some applications directly from the phone itself since I don't have much access to computers. Is it possible to do?
Hi Maxbrew,
the only way to install apps to the 520 is updating it to Windows 10 MOBILE. Without computer, that is impossible. With computer, it is a challenge, but possible and it runs fairly good. Search for Windows 10 mobile offline updater (W01M_Installer), install W10m, do all possible Updates, perform a hard reset and register it with Microsoft. Then you will be able to use the App store or sideload apps via developer mode.
Best regards,
Joachim
