After Update to Pie Mobile Phone crasht by during connecting car - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, everybody
Before I did the update to Android 9 on my Huawei P20 Pro, AA worked fine in combination with the Opel Intellink. Unfortunately, this has changed to a disadvantage since the update. As soon as I connect my mobile phone with the USB cable, the system asks me which USB option I want. So far so good.
But now it comes: As soon as I activate "Android Auto" in the Intellilink 4.0 settings, my phone crashes and tries to reboot. I already tried everything possible:
- other cable
- AA de- and newly installed
- Bluetooth newly paired
- USB debugging enabled (developer mode enabled)
- USB option set to MTP
- Wipe Cache partition performed
nothing helps.
Even if I don't have AA installed it crashes.
Does anyone have this phenomenon too?
Without activation this is not a problem. Bluetooth also works here.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions or solutions.
Greetings Finrok

Me too - solution please?
Same here. Working just fine before the update. Now whenever I connect the phone to the car via USB it crashed and reboots. Tried the same as above but I can't see a solution.. I've managed to get it working since by uninstalling and unpairing the device. Plugging it in and reconnecting. But as soon as I unplug and go again next time it crashes again and reboots as before.
Not an issue with the cable, cache or Bluetooth.
May also be worth noting, I also have a p20 pro. Brand new in November
Has anyone figured it out? Please!

Was it OTA update or one of the methods from the forum (eRocovery, OTG)?
Is factory reset an option for you?

Android auto incopatible phone

Hi folks,
i ve been experiencing Android auto connection issues.
Want to connect to Skoda car infotainment from my rooted htc one V(CM 12.1 - Lollipop 5.1), but unfortnatelly havent had luck so far.
Downloaded newest AA apk, but it won´t even let me start the app. So I tried the older version (1.2.084954_2166577-release) of AA with successfull start. However, the only thing I see is the initial screen(see attachment), nothing else. Even after USB connection the infotainment display gives me "not compatible USB" warning. Have tried all MTP, PTP and only charging connection modes.
Is there something Im doing wrong? Is there any other way I can get this running?
Cheers for all ideas and comments.
I am almost in same situation!

AA (Galaxy S6 and S4) stopped working on Skoda Fabia 2016

Hi,
I used to be able to launch android auto on my galaxy s6 Skoda Fabia 2016. It also used to work with a galaxy s4.
About a month ago (or more), it stopped working:
When I connect the phone, AA is launched but the exists and the USB connection is reset. I can see in my task manager that AA is active in background.
I can connect with MirrorLink, but I rather use AA.
The car didn't go through any upgrades so I guess the blame is at AA.
I tried replacing USB cables, resetting the AA on my phone, changing USB connection from MTP to all other possible options... nothing helps.
Any ideas?
AA found that new version is available, but you are somehow frozen during inicialization.
Please provide following info:
1. AA version (go to Application Manager -> current is 1.6.281040
2. in Application manager press FORCE STOP for AA. If you have any cash data for AA, remove it
3. (OPTIONAL). IN skoda HeadUnit, go to settings -> Factory Reset -> Navigate to FUllink/SkodaLink/Whatever link and have reset of AA/Mirrorlink
4. check in mobile, that AA is not running. If yes, clear it from memory!
5. connect via USB, go to Headunit and launch Android Auto. You should go thru setup phase and everything should work.
Fast check if you need update of AA:
Launch AA application, if you see Update/Upgrade banner, you need to perform above. If you are unsure, create a screenshot and i can advise.

Thanks for the instructions but it didn't help
My AA version is 1.6.281040. No update\upgrade banner when I open the app.
I tried all of the above steps (force stop + clear data and cache + factory reset my car smartlink) but the result is the same:
When I try to connect the car- AA launches and immediately goes to the background and the connection fails.
Any other ideas?
How can I debug this?
questions
Hi,
1. before launching AA, is bluetooth on your phone activated and you are paired with Skoda HeadUnit? You should be able to make a call via HeadUnit with buttons on wheel/buttons on headunit. Working bluetooth connection is mandatory prereq for working AA yet (USB cable is just not enough)
2. USB cable - i have seen situations, when setup has been not working with long cable or chinese fake cable. Try to use short original factory cable 0.3m maximum from Samsung (should be white), this works
3. what ROM are you using? Its original rom from SAMSUNG? If yes, please indicate build number+version. If not, this may be problem as non-original rom doesn't support DPIchange yet.
4. You can enable devel mode. enable usb debugging on android side + in AA - follow http://www.androidexplained.com/android-auto-developer-mode/
5. do you see on mobile at least ANDROID AUTO label for second?
6. where are you located? S6 is oficially supported phone on SkodaHU, so you may also ask support from importer via dealer.
Hey,
over at the Mazda headunit project, with a opensource custom AA, there is problems too. It appears that a new version of "Google Play Services" broke AA.
Play services is a sort of API that broker things like GPS and USB for apps.
Last working version is 9.0.83. Your timeline fits with the issue of the affected versions. Please send a bug report to Google to get them to fix it : [email protected]

Bluetooth is working and connected to the car.
I tried several different USB cables (originals and non-originals) but none helped.
I'm using stock rom: 6.0.1 build number MMB29K.G920FXXU3DPEK
5. do you see on mobile at least ANDROID AUTO label for second? I see AA launches and then it moves to the background. I don't see the "Android auto" overlay that was usually there.
I'll try contacting Skoda representative but since nothing has changed in the car unit, I believe it's a software issue in the phone.

Sounds like my issue. I posted in the forum link.
After reading through he posts in @soulz link, I found a solution:
https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/play/tflL2_GCj4s/Y5Ens5WxBwAJ
Basically, I disabled the following services:
ReschedulerUsingAlarmManager
ReschedulerUsingBroadcast
This needs root! but it works like a charm.
Now, all that's left to do is wait for Google to fix the play services issue.

Andriod Auto drops out on new Sony XAV-AX5000.

I had the Sony XAV-AX100 and everything worked great. I just switched to the AX5000 and now AA drops out all the time. It will either freeze up, or it will come up with a warning that there is no connection to USB. I have tried a different usb cable. Same problem. I am using the same phone Galaxy S8 and the same high end USB cable. I uninstalled AA from phone and re downloaded it. Same thing. It is very random. It will boot up AA just fine then go to Pandora play a song or two then drop all connections. If I unplug and wait and plug phone back in it will work for a short time then drop out again.
Anyone have any thoughts on what to try here?
I have talked to Sony chat session not much help here.
Thanks
I talked to Sony a little bit (from what I could understand) They think it is a MSC "Mass Storage Connection" connection with USB. But Android has not had a MSC connection since maybe 2015. So why would this be happening now with this firmware? Anyone have any suggestions on how to get phone to a MSC USB connection instead of MTP? Or the radio to use the standard MTP connection on every Android out there.
I got the AX5000 on Monday and have been fighting the same issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Oreo (8.0) and have tried everything from a physical perspective (cables, flash, factory resets) but no luck. When I spoke with Sony today, they tried to tell me that AA was not supported on my car (2012 Jeep Wrangler) which ignores the fact that this is an after-market upgrade. I agree that it's likely an issue with how the head unit communicates with the phone. The only place I have found to change USB settings is under the Developer Options. The available options are Charge this phone, MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol), RNDIS (USB Ethernet), Audio Source, and MIDI. I'll try each of them and resort back on the results.
Yes with talking to Sony they said that the phone USB has to be set to MSC for USB1 to work. Well you would think that they would know that has not been used on android run phone for years. I tried developer mode and setting debugging to on. and even tried different USB configurations in debugging. like Switching it to Audio Source. As soon as plug my phone in it kicks it back to MTP. This is a easy fix for Sony they have the MTP setting on the USB 2 wire. But we will see how long it takes them to do an update on this since they just did one last week. Very frustrating I have the AX5000 on my Harley. So it is not very convenient to mess with it.
Please do post if you find some kind of solution: As I am sure Sony will be awhile.
I had the same result with attempting to switch the USB mode. It switches back when the phone is plugged in. A firmware update may be our only hope.
Well not sure if I found a possible fix. I put my phone in developer mode. Then switched the USB to debugged. and used my original USB cord that came with the S8. For the limited time that I have been able to check it out it has worked. Keep in mind this is on a Motorcycle. So time to work on this is limited. The problem I have is that the original cord is 4' long and I have no where to tuck it in. I have tried several different short cords (amazon) and they all will work for a bit but AA stops randomly.
I still think it is funny When I talked to SONY they said that this radio would not work with my phone USB protocol. But I have talked to several people that say they have no problems with same phone & same radio.
Anyone know where to get a 1' USB cord that would be the same as stock Samsung S8 cord? Yes I check with US cellular. Phone carrier..
Thanks
Does anyone know if Sony has fixed this issue yet? This is really the only deck I want. The 2330 was another I was looking at but the screen is resistive.
Still an issue for me. No firmware update beyond 1.01 and no settings or application conflicts that I've found.

connection to AA should automatically set your USB to MIDI.
if it doesn't, try setting MIDI manually before connecting the cable (and double check it after connecting).
Yeah, tried that with my Galaxy S7 and it auto-switches it back.
I have it working using a Pixel 3 XL.
First, enable developer options
Settings > About phone > tap Build number 7 times
Go back to Settings, then System > Advanced > Developer Options > Default USB Configuration > Set to MIDI

Connection problem with Android Auto and VW's App Connect

Hi,
neither my Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (xiaomi.eu beta) nor the Xiaomi Redmi 5 (stock Xiaomi) of my girlfriend can successfully connect to a new VW Golf 7. Both are running latest MIUI version, everything up to date. Data connection is enabled, USB Debugging too, we tried several cables, no Dual Apps. Once a phone is connected and Data Connection is chosen an error is displayed that a connection is not possible, USB then switches back to charging.
This is very frustrating. I found many reports about problems, most of them could be solved by using different cables or disabling Dual App. Both Xiaomis should work with Android Auto and App Connect, at least that's what (some) people claim.
Any ideas what to test?
I use AA on a 2019 VW Polo with my Mi 9. I dont choose data transfer, just charging is enough. You need to download latest AA app and i dont have USB debugging enabled because data transfer with USB debugging always causes trouble.

I had the same problem on my mk7 jetta and in my case it was caused by having the USB modem activated on my phone (I often use my phone as a WiFi USB modem for a desktop computer not equipped with WiFi card). Turning back every USB option to normal/off did the trick for me. USB debug is not required.
Did you fix erro?
Helo, did you fix erro? I'm with the problem like you!

Xiaomi 12T Pro - problem with wireless connection to Android Auto

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my Xiaomi 12T Pro and Android Auto. I've been using Android Auto wirelessly via Bluetooth on my KIA CEED 2023 MY(wireless support) for the past three weeks without any issues. I even updated my phone to Android 13 and MIUI 14 about 2 weeks ago, and everything still worked fine.
However, couple days ago when I was driving my car, Android Auto suddenly stopped working during my drive. Since then, I've tried factory reset of my KIA infotainment system, network setting reset, unpairing and repairing Bluetooth, and even installing the latest version of the AA mirror apk. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the current version of AA from Google Play, but I still can't connect to Android Auto wirelessly and the only error message is during the attempt of connecting: "The phone is not responding. Try it again".
The connection with a cable works fine. I tried 3 other phones on my car - all work. I tried to connect my Xiaomi 12T Pro to a different car and I have the same problem as on my Kia.
Even Android Auto support seems to be helpless. I shared with them a bug report, tried some suggested setups, but nothing works..
Does anybody have any ideas or have same experience?
Hello, the same thing happens to me with the carplay of my mercedes benz. And driving seems to disconnect my Xiaomi 12T PRO. I still don't have a solution from the manufacturer Xiami or the manufacturer of the carplay module. Is there anyone who can help us?
First of all, make sure you have the latest available firmware for your headunit. I don't know where you live but in some regions the Kia and Hyundai headunits can be upgraded by using the Kia Navigation Update application and a spare USB thumbdrive.
This said, I've had similar issues in a Kia Rio when using Android Auto wirelessly:
* Make sure the hour and date are set correctly in your headunit. Sometimes the headunit craps itself while trying to get the GPS hour and it sets incorrectly, wich causes conectivity issues with Android Auto
* Make sure your phone is not connected to any other bluetooth device before connecting to the headunit. I have a couple Xiaomi phones and neither of them is able to use Wireless Android Auto if they're connected to a wireless headphones, a laptop or a smartwatch. I don't understand why this happens but only happens with Xiaomi phones.
* MIUI has a battery optimization feature wich kills some apps and background services to save energy. Even if you disable it for some of your apps, sometimes a MIUI update will override this and cause problems. Make sure Android Auto, Google Maps, your music app and your messaging apps are excluded from the battery saver features, and make sure Google Maps has the location permission set to "all the time".
* Unpair your phone from the headunit and sync it again.
* Go to Android Auto settings (in your phone) and make sure that Wireless Android Auto toggle is enabled. Disable the Android Auto's developer mode if it's enabled.
* Factory reset the headunit and try to sync your phone again. The first time you sync the phone, do it with the USB cable.

Turn off power saving settings clear cache when locked & disable mobile data when locked
then Check battery saving settings for android auto app and system service. Also turn off miui memory optimization, just because. It always fcks up background processes at little gain to the user.
Edit: apparently most of these settings are gone in MIUI14.0.5 global rom/Android 13
Thanks for your advice guys. Meantime, I did a factory reset, and since then everything works fine.
ALas its a miui bug known since ages. If the device for whatever reason losses connection to the mobile network the devs somehow made sure the device disconnnects any Wifi connection. Hence AA stopping working.
Want to test tthis?
Simply deactivate mobile data on your phone and activate it again.
