I just got my redmi 4 (64gb)(indian).
I flashed developer miui 9 rom (Android 7.1.1) and want to know does normal twrp will support this or not coz I saw a thread for twrp and it says that its for marshmello(6.0) .......... so just curious is this twrp works......:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
TWRP works fine. I flashed it while I was already on MIUI 9 and had no issues.
Link your phone to your mi account then unlock the bootloader.
Use this site to unlock it: https://en.miui.com/unlock/
Download the correct rom for your device here:
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/roms/fastboot/stable/
Or
https://xiaomifirm.com/firmware/?q=vince
The xiaomi rom flash tool only supports .tar files which can be found in the previous links.
Here's the link to the flash tool:
https://xiaomiflashtool.com
If you need a more detailed guide check Google or YouTube they're full of good tips.
BTW there are no redmi note 7 fastboot rom files yet.
Thanks for the post!

I honestly wouldn't recommend flashing unofficial twrp. You should wait for official twrp to release for this phone here:
https://twrp.me/Devices/Xiaomi/
I suggest you only unlock your bootloader and use stock rom for now and wait for official twrp.

Hey! I tried flashing Havoc OS, Pixel Extended and Crdroid through TWRP. Only Crdroid works, the other two Bootloops. Can someone explain what's happening? I've flashed custom roms on Samsung phones but I am new to Redmi. I would love some help. Thanks!

Do these roms have the same firmware?
Check?
Like the base firmware? Havoc and PE are based on AOSP. Crdroid is based on lineageos. But isn't Lineageos itself based on AOSP?

This works for Crdroid. The problem is the other two doesn't work with the same steps. That's what confuses me.

Thanks for your help man! I did not know that there was a firmware version requirement, most of them just list 'The latest stable firmware' as a requirement. Will try this out soon!

Also why is this an requirement. Does each new update add something? I am at 12.5.7 Indian version. How is it different from CN or EU version?

Development is only done with CN or GLOBAL roms
I don't quite follow. Wouldn't 12.5.7 IN rom have all the features present in the 12.5.1 CN rom?

This is the basis for an AOSP.
An AOSP rom on a Xiaomi is a portage, there are no MIUI functionalities, moreover often your phone after flashing an AOSP is recognized as a Pixel.
The firmware serves as a bridge between the Xiaomi and the rom, for porting, that's all.
Firmware is not a rom it is included in the Miui roms
