Motherboard Failure - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One fine day ,my note 5 stopped working suddenly. When I contacted official Samsung service centre, they told about motherboard Failure and it costs around 17000 indian rupees ( 240 us dollars) approximately. It's a huge amount . So I have taken a new mobile.
Is any other chance of getting repaired it for low cost?

Nah.

If there is no sentimental value, i suggest that u just leave it there and don't go for repair, or just buy a 2nd hand(used) note 5. It will cost cheaper.

Avoid buying from Expansys Hong Kong

It's the first time I am posting this kind of thread... But I would like to avoid others to run into the same problems as I did
Since I live in Asia I thought that for repair/replacement issues I'd better order my phone in the region. I picked Expansys HK since they seemed to have a good reputation
The original purchase went well, I got delivered quite quickly and was very happy about the service (Sending email when goods are shipped, etc, etc...)
The problem is after only 2.5 months of usage my HTC Touch Pro 2 failed on me: the screen was scrambled (white, red and blue dots all over the screen). This without any particular reason (I treat my phone correctly). The phone was still working, but definitely the graphic output was dead. I could receive calls though and output to an external screen
After only 2.5 months of use, without any bad treatment of the phone you just think "**** happens, just bad luck, I'll ship it and should get back quickly another unit or a quick repair"
I waited 2 months. I had to call and email several times to push and get feedback. I the understood the phone was shipped from Expansys HK to Expansys UK. Then Expansys UK snet it to HTC UK. Where the phone was probably shipped back to China... (This I dont know, just personal speculation). I cant believe it takes 2 full months to fix a phone. Maybe expansys let it rot somewhere and only woke up after several complains. Maybe it actually needed 2 months of manpower to fix (In which case I'd say that HTC had better give me a new one)
Anyway terrible management of the issue. Bad communication with the customer with no care at all (btw what I am supposed to do for 2 months without a phone...). I received my phone today with not even a short letter of apology for teh 2 months delay, or explanation of what went wrong with the phone (I guess I deserve this at least. I paid 800 USD a few months earlier for taht phone no ? Just the phone simply put in a tiny bubble bag. My screen protector is torn at several angles, I'll need to buy a new one. Expansys didn't even think as a "present" to put one to replace the one that was scrapped (By them ? By HTC ?). HTC happily upgraded to Win 6.5. Cool ! But all my contacts, emails, settings, etc... were erased
What to say ? Nothing... Just don't buy from there or if you do cross fingers your phone won't break. Maybe I am too harsh, maybe you get the same experience with other shops... I just know my next purchase wont be from there (My previous phone was an HTC Hermes bought in Japan, I had issues once, it took 1 week to fix. Night and day...)
thank god you got it back, in india we are not so lucky at times.

Reslly ?? Waoh !! From Indian shops or whenever you order abroad ?
I bought my TyTN in Switzerland (not Expansys), after one month my cam had problems so I sent it for repairs. I had to wait for one month untill they sent it back. As far as I could see, device was sent to England for repair and then sent back.
Cheers

hi~
thanks for reporting on us the expansys, but it make me WILL buy one from them.
Now it's 2020, I wanna a redmi note 9 pro (india) aka redmi note 9 s (global), codename curtana.
In hong kong we only have joyeuse. in which it's less popular in XDA, as curtana is sell in india and outside india,
yet joyeuse is someplaces + not in india.
expansys is almost the only way I can buy a curtana, with some qurantee.
1. you quranteed expansys ships good product AT first at least. Hope it's sealed, look brand new and not touched
by others
2. you quranteed they provide repair service.
For the duration, it's reasonable,
I live in hongkong which is 1 hr far from china,
but at one time I sent a US 100 tablet to another dealer and send back to China,
it DID take a WHOLE MONTH.
it's the speed for repair.
two months for you is reasonable, as you see 1hr from china need 1month period.
It's a little bit overpriced for me however.
in HK the joyeuse cost usd200, with 1 yr warranty.
expansys curtana cost usd200 but only 6mo warranty, they charge u usd30 more for a total of 1yr warranty.
anyway thx for the report on expansys

Well it's been 11 years... I have no clue how they currently perform.
I live in HK too and there are now a lot of other convenient shops here anyway. Also international shipping has become cheaper and much more convenient so lots of options these days to order a phone or a tablet.

Warning:never buy from handtec.co.uk

I have never had such a bad shopping exprience!
the short story is
i bought a brand new nexus s from them.
when i got it from the mail,i noticed the seal on the box was broken.
i wrote them an email.
and then to my amazement i was SHOCKED to find out the screen was so defective.
it had about 20 dead pixels on it.
by the way,it was sent in a bubble wrap with no external box protecting it,so i susspect it was damaged in transit,or it's a refurbished item,i am not really sure...
in anycase it's their fault.
on top of that they had not included a receipt so i had to pay the customs a 100 pounds.
i called them, and they said to me to sent it back.
i told them it's impossible for me to do that.
because due to my state's laws if i send it to them and they replace it,im going to pay an import tax again.
and i told them i lost alot of work because they did not include a receipt in the box so it was stuck in the customs for about a month, and i was stuck without a phone.
so i called them, about 20 times told them i cant send it to them and im not willing to pay another 100 pounds due to their mistakes, and be without a phone for a nother month.
i said i would accept a partial refund and will pay the rest out of my pocket.
and then they offered me the insulting amount of 20 pounds refund!
my skype credit cost me that !
and that's for an open box with a defective screen
i would advise ANYONE not to buy from them.
i am now stuck with a defective nexus s that eventualy cost me more than it would have in my country.

[Q] Cost of galaxy note motherboard.

My galaxy note motherboard got shot in some chips, coz of water gone inside. how much will cost to replace only motherboard..
may be around 9000 to 10000 Rs here in india.
i have cleaned the water patches in the shot area.. is there possible to get claim the warranty??
You may try, although water might have caused micro-corrosion on the PCB which the guys from service centre will probably notice. You've got nothing to lose though.
does anyone know where I can.order a motherboard for my note? I'm.in Canada with a N7000 note...Samsung doesn't sell/service devices outside north America. and UK Samsung doesn't service/sell outside UK...!

You may try this one:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=galaxy+note
My friend got his screen replacement from them - can't really verify the shop so you might want to check it first.
Also, there are some boards on eBay, might be worth to look there.
Samsung parts are relatively cheap compared to what we generally see on ebay, at least so is the case in India, though the phone costs every penny of the $600 odd dollars that it is priced at.
I was one of those unfortunate enough to have 2 Galaxy Notes withered away because of a broken display and an emmc chip which decided to go rogue.
So off to the service center the phones go, after much back and forth with whether the phone is rooted and what not we finally agreed upon the emmc issue sorted by Samsung and the display borne by me.
Long story short, the motherboard costs around 9000 Indian Rupees which is about 165 USD, give or take.
global direct parts are a bunch of crooks...id shy away from them... their parts are not what they claim and when you try to return them they refuse claiming you broke them even though you never used them and thats the way you received them...

Buy a used handset?
I was looking into this after water damage to my mobo but in the end it seemed easier, less risky and not much more expensive just to buy a used n7000 complete. Admittedly this was in the UK but I was able to pick up an excellent condition Note with box and all accessories for just over £100. If that is an option for you I'd recommend it rather than dealing with some of these unreliable companies.
Good luck!
is there anyway to order a motherboard and get it shipped in Bangladesh?
In India, 10k these service center guys are suckups here, they don't easily agree to do big repairs, and in my opinion if you r living in Delhi then go to Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh and you can get it fixed in around 3-5K, you will get an orignal samsung PCB/Motherboard(used 1) which they have taken through service center links from the original phones ( Ya believe it or not, it all happens).
Hope I have helped.

note 5 lcd replacement

anyone know the best place to get replacement lcd/digitizer ..
seems to be abundant of them on ebay ..but how we know which one?
What prices are you seeing? Last time I looked, they were $170 - $200 for the screen assembly.
I just shipped my phone off to an official Samsung repair center. It took about a week and cost $182 with tax for parts and labor on a new LCD/digitizer/screen for my Note 5. In addition to changing the screen, they also changed the metal side part, it's brand new with no scratches. That seems like a better deal to go that route if you have a spare phone you can use for a week. Just hop on Samsung's website to get the number to call. Don't fall for their ~$74 price quote. That's how much they charge just to diagnose your problem. I told them exactly what my problem was and what was needed, she told me $74. I nearly peed myself. After the repair center got it, they canceled that charge and told me it would be an extra $X for the parts and $74 was the diagnostic fee. Still, $182 total for parts and labor is a good deal, comparatively.
thanks for the write up!......
actually I have it dismantled already..... just wondering best place to buy replacement seems to average price at Same price you paid for fix.
I'm in dublin and note 5 wasn't sold in europe so I set about fixing it myself.
where to get original Samsung part and be sure it is Samsung part?

Tax for exchanging phones at best buy/usa?

I live in germany and I wanted to get my sister a moto g5s plus as gift , so I asked my cousin who was there in usa to get her the phone, and of course she made a mistake and got the moto g5 plus , even though I told her and even sent her screenshots, anyway best buy charged 35 $ for exchanging her phone , what the hell, the phone was unopened , here in Europe you can return electonic devices after having used before 14 days after the date you've bought have passed, did best buy rip her off or is this normal in USA?
I bought my g5s plus over at Best Buy recently and I know for a fact that they enforce a 35$ restocking fee. It's stated before the product is bought and agreed to by the customer before paying for the product. I would implore you to see this : https://www.bestbuy.com/site/help-t...cy/pcmcat260800050014.c?id=pcmcat260800050014

No, you can't do that. At least, it's the store being nice if they let you. If you buy something over the phone/online and it's in perfect condition you can return it (and you pay for return postage) for a week or two, but in an actual shop they don't have to accept it unless you're claiming it was faulty. It's why I don't buy anything in shops any more - they have a different view on how many dead pixels mean it's faulty (they think it's 6 and they have to be in the centre of the screen, but the answer is actually zero).
