Because its software based, it works on the Mi 5, but if you ment that exact file yes your right it won't.

You need Pie to run the apk,sadly it's not working on Oreo.

Hello,
Root is not needed. It's optional.
Google Pay works as far as I know, however, I don't use it so you better do some research before flashing. No issues with Google Play, banking apps or anything else from my experience.
