Find my device on Pie - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I'm very chuffed with Pie so far, only issue I have is that if I deactivate Find my Device in settings, when I restart my phone its reactivated itself, anyway (maybe through adb) to deactivate permanently? I see also that in Settings, Accounts that the Duo account will be re-added every time you reboot your phone, even if you remove the account...any adb method to disable this too? thanks

I would urge others to check their devices, if they deactivate find my device and then reboot their phone, to see if it then has reactivated on its own...

I have the same issue. Cannot deactivate Google's Admin Access, so basically anyone who gains access to your google account can easily remotely wipe the phone with nothing you can do to disable it.

[Q] Disabled Apps After Exchange Email sync

Afternoon Guys,
I've recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 to replace my old Nexus 5. The lollipop update for the Nexus 5 crippled my phone and I needed a new one. Now moving on...once I've gone through the setup and downloaded all my apps. I then began to add my email accounts. After I added my Microsoft Exchange email for my company, the device then encrypts itselfs and I reboot the phone. After that process is done all the apps I previously downloaded are now disable. But here's the kicker i cannot see the disable apps in the application manager under the Disabled Apps Tab. I can see the apps that i manually disabled. The reason why I can see them is that when i go back to re-download them from the app store they appear as disable there. THere is an enable button but whenever I push to enabled button the app will stay as disabled. The only way that I got around this was to uninstall the app and then install it again. Now I don't want to constantly re-enable all my apps again. So guys I wanted to know a few things:
1. Has anyone else ran into this issue ?
2. Is there an app manager within the play store that displays all apps. disable and enabled ? I've haven't found anything yet.
3. This same issue happens when I go into ultra power saving mode.
P.S.
My phone is not rooted and I am familiar with the process. But I would rather leave my phone as is. Your feedback is much appreciated !
Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Lastpass - Accessibility option keeps disabling

I've got lastpass installed and have chosen to use the accessibility option as I want it to fill the forms in chrome, however the option in accessibility keeps disabling on it's own.
Anyone know a solution?
Wish I did, having the same issue. Seems to only occur after a restart though. I normally switch it off at night and let the alarm switch it back on in the morning.
I changed the app launch settings to manual in the battery menu to fix this

I changed the setting in the battery menu to "manual" but it still keeps disabling several times a day. Does anyone know is there's a fix?
I have a Mate 10 Pro and I have usually been getting this issue after a Huawei software update.
Old thread I know, but the only solution that has always worked for me is the following.
1. Uninstall Lastpass
2. Restart your phone
3. Install Lastpass and enable all the functions you like, including draw over other apps, fill helper bubble etc.
The options at least for me stay enabled until the next update. Without doing the above steps, they will just get auto-disabled after a few seconds.

Phone stuck on Preparing for Setup

Device: Xiaomi Mi A2 Android One
ROM: Stock Google Android 9 Pie
I recently had to do a hard factory reset on my Android One Xiaomi Mi A2 phone. After reset a particular notification keeps insistently reappearing - it is from two different apks that are part of the stock ROM/OS - Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) and Android setup (with a gear icon). Both the apks have the same name but different icons and listed separately. They can be found by clicking on Settings>Apps & notifications>See all apps>Show system. I am currently on Android 9 Pie.
The notification from Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) gives two options - connect to WiFi or Use Mobile Data. On choosing either option it takes me to a white screen that has a gear symbol/icon on top and right below it it says PREPARING FOR SETUP... and below that it says YOU CAN FINISH SETTING UP YOUR Mi A2 SOON... At the bottom of this screen it has a rectangular Start button but that remains greyed out. I waited two days on this but it remained same. I did hard reset numerous times and re-setup phone but issue would not go away.
So then I did a reset from Recovery/Hard Reset again. Then I did the following in the order I mention - Set-up the phone as new / Chose Do not back up data or apps from previous save - Unchecked all apps that I had earlier that Google was trying to reinstall automatically after reset as per backed up info of my device on Google servers. Once phone was on homescreen I went to PlayStore and updated Google Play Services first thing. Then I installed all available updates. Then manually reinstalled all apps I earlier had on my phone one by one. After all this, notification from Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) reappeared and same issue - whether I choose Use Mobile Data or connect to wifi it would just take me to PREPARING FOR SETUP screen and stays there with Start button greyed out and notification bar indicators showing no data being transmitted up or down.
So then I went into settings, force stopped it (Android Setup with a circular arrow timer icon) and deleted cache and data for this apk. Left it overnight. In the morning I see that there is the same notification but this time from the Android Setup (with a gear icon) and the only option is connect to wifi. Upon connecting to wifi it takes me to the same PREPARING FOR SETUP screen with start button greyed out and does nothing. So this time I went into settings and forced stopped this (Android Setup with a gear icon) system apk and deleted its cache. Delete data option is greyed out, although it shows some data is stored. This makes notification go away but once I reboot phone it reappears.
I have done research online and many others have faced this exact same issue, exact same PREPARING FOR SETUP screen. But many different handsets, many different roms. Most common solution offered online was to delete cache and data for Google play Services and PlayStore. That was of no help in my case. Mine is a completely stock Android One 9 Pie rom, strictly no mods whatsoever. I doubt this has anything to do with the phone manufacturer, because they would not mess with those system apks I have mentioned earlier. It seems connected to Play Services apk and backed up phone settings/information on Google servers. Might have something to do with RESTORE DATA AND SETTINGS WHEN APP IS REINSTALLED setting option in the Android OS. I attempted to delete backed-up device settings, passwords and app info backed up on Google's servers, and then did a reset again and set up as new, but problem is still there.
Any help/info/etc. you can provide about this would be much appreciated ...
(Attached screenshot is from a Pixel device but I am facing exact same issue, hence using this screenshot)-

No its not Beta Pie. Its a full public release, updated through OTA.
I have seen this problem mentioned in Nexus, Pixel and Oneplus6 Forums as well (among others) so not sure if it is specific to Pie ...
SOLVED
After all the steps mentioned in original post, heres what I did - Went into my Google account and removed phone from devices listed under my account. Reset phone. Set up - as new (chose do not restore backed up setttings/apps/data)(did this setup with wifi). Towards end of setup Google still tries to reinstall some apps that were installed before, so tapped on REVIEW APPS and unchecked all checked apps. Three apps were still listed with no option to unselect. Continued. Got to home screen. Problem notification appeared. This time tapped on USE MOBILE DATA option on the notification. It did not go to problematic PREPARING FOR SETUP screen but went to another screen that said installing 3 apps (the 3 apps that could not be unchecked as I mentioned earlier), and after a few minutes of seeming to be stuck, just completed on its own!
PROBLEM SOLVED. Mentioning everything done in detail in the hopes that it will help someone else. Cheers!!:good:

Realise this thread is a little old, but I had the same problem and did not want to reset the phone again. I am using LineageOS 16.0
Most of the solutions appear to be little more than try again.
I found the following work:
When the option comes up, go back ("<") key from the screen that shows a grey "Start" button. This should give the WiFi options. Click the WiFi which is connected, and then click Advanced. Change Metered from Automatic to Unmetered. Click finish / ok as necessary and it should then work.
I can only assume that Android is detecting the connection is metered therefore refusing to do the final setup. Hope that this helps someone!
Don't forget to set the connection back to automatic / metered if applicable!
What i did and helped is that i deleted the Google account, restarted the phone and the Update went through.
what worked for me - i had to install gapps first and then just factory reset in twrp - a20 205w - running lineageos16

Thanks A NEast, it works on my Nokia 6.1 Plus
Just change the Wi-Fi options from automatic to unmetered

Guide: Laggy V50? Make it ROCKET! No, it's not the UX!

Something was not right, for me, when scrolling in browsers and play store. It was laggy as hell. In other apps like facebook, tidal, instagram, youtube it was fluid and fast. But not on browsers. Tried all, chrome, opera, firefox, bromite, but all was stuttering like crazy. Play store also. I tought there are few rougue apps, twilight theme, fluid nav gestures and smart files manager, but I was so wrong. I also blamed the LG UI skin, but again was so wrong! So how did I resolved?
Guide - possible for any LG out there:
1. Remove SIM
2. Factory reset your phone in the way that doesn't require Internet to go through activating the phone. If you cant do this, it will fail. You should NOT put the email account. (I did reset from phone settings, not by keys. Also remove phone security such as pin, password, face id etc for this to work - just select unlocking the phone by sliding up)
3. DO NOT connect to internet, do not insert SIM.
4. Settings - apps - show system apps also.
5. Disable, remove permissions, set modify system setting to NO and draw over other apps to NO for all korean bloatware (screenshots attached) and for Google play services, google play store, google, and google service framework.
You must do this for each app. Example in screenshots.
6. Connect to wifi. Do not put your email in play store or gmail. Not yet.
7. As soon as connected slide down the notifications pannel. A pop up will apear after few seconds with Google trying to update some libraryes!!! Hit CANCEL!!!
8. Restart and connect with your email on Play Store. Disable asap app updates.
9. Your contacts won't sync now. Don't worry, its normal, you just removed some permissions.
10. Update and install all your apps from play store.
11. Re-enable that 4 google apps, give permissions to all for contacts, phone, wifi etc, enable also draw over other apps and modify system settings for these apps.
12. Insert SIM.
Enjoy! Hope it works for you all, V40, 30, G8, G7 etc
Weird, but its like I have stock vanilla now. Rocket!
It seems that with every restart this rogue korean app pop up asking for access, even though i have disabled and removed all of its permissions. Attached screenshot.

Hello. Yes. Uninstalled all bloatware with adb commands. I've made a thread here. Search for it.

Google Maps Timeline stopped working

I have rooted my s20 Ultra on Android 10 and 11. In both cases, Google Maps have stopped tracking my gps movements in the Timeline, it keeps thinking I am at home. It works fine providing me navigational directions, its just not recording in the Timeline. The only module I have installed is Energized Ultimate adblocker.
I gave Google Maps full permission, my phone is detected and managed in the Google accounts device management. I am not sure what else I am missing.
Android 11
Magisk 21.1
Manager 8.0.3
That sounds like the hosts file Energized is using is blocking whatever address Timeline is using. To verify you can disable the module, reboot and try again. If that's the case you can figure out what address it is and whitelist it.

I wiped my phone and didn't install any magisk modules this time. I drove around for 30 minutes and Google Maps still show me as being at home in the timeline. Another weird thing is that everytime I reset my phone, Google keeps track of the current device. Should Google being deleting the duplicates?
Update-trying to flash again
That was the best guess I had... Every time you reset your device it'll get a new ID, and you'll have to remove the duplicates yourself in Google's settings.
Some (yours truly included) would consider it a good thing that Google doesn't track your whereabouts too much... But, I hope you get things sorted the way you want them.
