Using Fingerprint sensor to wake device (root) - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

I'm puzzled as to why the Fingerprint sensor only works when the screen is on. This pretty much defeats the purpose of having a sensor if one has to press the power button to turn on the phone
Has anyone succeeded in reconfiguring the Fingerprint sensor to allow it to wake the phone, without having to first press the power button on?
I'm rooted, and have tried looking for the keylayout files in usr/keylayout but have been unsuccessful so far. On other devices putting a "WAKE" next to specified key in the keylayout files would give it the ability to detect presses while the screen is off
Any thoughts / workarounds / solutions? Thanks!

I've been wondering the same thing. It is working like that on AOSP for what it is worth. Maybe it can be copied to stock or something.
Not sure how to do that though ?

Prevent Camera button Wake up

I carry my Tilt in my pocket and the Camera button gets continuously pushed keeping the screen on and killing my battery.
Is there a way to Prevent the Camera Button [and maybe all but the OK button] from waking up my Tilt. I tried AEButtons but it only remaps buttons, they still wake-up.
Yes, I have searched all manner of terms, camera button, wake up, sleep.............without results.
I don't think it's the camera button because the camera would not come on unless you have the device on. If you have wake on slide enable, this may be causing you issue along with the camera coming on when the button is push. I noticed a similar issue with my Tilt... the device would be on when I take it out and I disabled wake-up on slide. No more issues. Give that a shot.. maybe it'll help.
I an not saying that the Camera is coming on. The problim is that a very slight push on the camera button will wake up the device and turn the screen on [ie. wake it up from Sleep mode]. The camera button prutrudes out so far that it is very easy to push it while in my pocket.
I need a method to inhibit the the Camera button[and other buttons] from waking up the device.
I have looked through Settings and can not find the 'Wake on Slide' setting, where is it?
I just tested my Tilt and I cannot wake up the device by pressing the camera button... weird.
Anyway, search for Advance Config and it has an option to disable wake-up on slide. Worth a try.

Keys locked after wake up

Hi,
My Kaiser has suddenly changed so that when I wake the phone up, I have to unlock the keypad by hitting unlock at bottom left and then unlock again mid way up the screen.
It never used to do this - simply pushing the power button woke up the screen and the keys were no longer locked.
The phone is set so that all keys are locked except the power button - which is what I use to wake the phone up.
Can anybody please suggest what could have changed and how to set it back.
Thanks.
What software did you install lately? Or maybe it was a feature in one of the softwares that you have, and you just enabled it!

[Q] power button broken

so my power button is gone on my htc touch with android. i need to poke the small button inside with a penpoint or small object.
is there a way to re-map the button or another way to turn the phone on from sleep?
My power button is working but I have same concern. Developers, why don't use D-pad key for home/back etc functions? power/camera buttons are very critical because without them you may even have difficulty to enter bootload mode.
Atools will let you remap the keys
Thanks!. I have created an update that set Vogue D-pad as:
Left: Back
Center: Home
Right: Menu
Working perfect on my SuperFroyo.

I've used Atools to remap wake up to other keys but, it only works if i press those keys after receiving a notification.
have you been successful in waking up the phone from sleep without having to press the power button? are there additional settings i need to change?
I also have the same problem - my power button stopped working this afternoon for some reason and I cant wake up my phone except by calling it from another line or restarting it - any idea how i can change the wake up key? from what i gather, the atools fix isn't working?
Exact. Same. Problem. Using Incubus RLS16 (no audio input either... grrr...)
I remapped the power button and it will turn on but only under these conditions:
Phone just went into sleep, after a few minutes no response.
If it's plugged in.
Which makes me wonder... are there two different sleep modes? ie: light sleep which lasts for a few minutes when unplugged, and a deep sleep which kicks in after that, or never, when plugged in.
I only need to wait a few more weeks for my upgrade, but I want to be productive now!
Anyone have a solution to the phone not waking up problem - Ive realized its not my power button..

[Q] Custom ROM or Root question for Power On/Off

I am tired of sending my N1 back to HTC to have the power button repaired.
At the moment it's very hard to press so I am using custom apps to power off the phone with a widget (or long press on Search) and power on with the Vol Up key.
That works fine but means I can't have a PIN lock on the phone and means I can't connect to my work's Exchange server.
Is there a custom ROM out there or something that requires ROOT access to the phone that allows you to power on the phone with a different key but retain PIN number access? Somebody mentioned on another thread that this was no possible with a stock phone and it had to be rooted but I can't find an application that has this functionality.
Thanks
You are referring to waking up the phone correct? cause powering on is a totally different thing and I don't think you can power on with any other buttons if the phone is completely off.
If you can flash CM7, you can have trackball wake than unlock via pin code or pattern.
Sorry I meant waking the phone up not power it on which can't be done with software of course.
When I get my phone repaired I will look in CM7. I would prefer something else than the trackball to wake the phone since it's easily pressed. I do like vol up that one tool provides.
Yes, as baseballfanz mentioned, CyanogenMod has the ability to wake up the phone with the trackball (I also believe they recently added in the ability to wake it by the volume buttons). And it is built into the ROM, so there aren't any additional apps necessary for that.
They also include a notification widget to turn off the screen (it shows up in the notification drop down along with other buttons - similar to the power control widget). I also got an app called Lock Screen which allows me to place an icon in my main dock (or anywhere else for that matter).
EDIT: I just checked, and I do have the volume wake option on my phone. I am running nightly #151. I am pretty sure it is not in the stable 7.0.3, but it might've been put in before 7.1 RC1. If not, it will definitely be in RC2.

Sounds good. What I want is to be able to unlock the phone with the power button (I press the trackball too easily) and when that button is pressed, I am presented with the standard unlock screen with PIN number entry.
At the moment I have a free app from the market that unlocks the phone with Vol Up but then it's completely unlocked with no PIN entry. Putting in a PIN number disables the app.
Hopefully with CM7 I can have both going?
Yes, the volume wake is just that. It wakes up the phone, but doesn't unlock it. And I thought the same thing with it being too easy to turn on, but I've only ran into the issue a few times when it has turned on in my pocket, but the screen has a relatively short timeout before it turns off (I think it is 5 seconds), so it hasn't ever really been an issue.
But either way, it does have the volume wake (and not volume unlock).

Samsung Galaxy A30( SM-A305G ) does not wake up. Any suggentions?

Hello friends,
My situation:
Out of the blue my phone stopped responding to the wake-up action. Every time I lock it, I have to restart for the screen to turn on again. The power button is working just fine, since I can go to recovery mode and use it to select options there. I even installed a somewhat wrong version of the TWRP recovery that would not boot to the main OS, but the power/lock button would work just fine in recovery, putting the phone to sleep and waking it up. I reverted the instalation after so I could boot to the main OS ( Android 10). I tried reinstalling(from an official image of the rom) the full rom, incluing everything from OS to Bootloader, and could not make the wakeup action work again. Once my phone is on, if I lock it, I have to force a restart to turn the screen on again. I even tried sending a direct command to the OS using adb shell input keyevent KEYCODE_POWER and KEYCODE_WAKEUP to no success. Even tough I made sure other common events like opening the camera (KEYCODE_CAMERA) were working when the screen was on, and I bet it was working when the screen was off too, but it would not wakeup the screen and I would not be able to see the camera view finder.
My phone is a Samsung galaxy A30, model SM-A305G, currently in Android 10.
I think I described the problem good enough, but If anyone have a problem understanding it, just let me know and I try to explain it better.
Can anyone help me out here? I tried a lot of things to not success.
Thanks!
I have the exact problem you described, did you find any solution ?

flash official ROM with Odin or with twrp
I tried several different official roms by odin but nothing changed.
Power button and volume rockers works perfectly in recovery or download mode but in the OS volume rockers do not do anything (nor volume button commands from adb shell) and if I press the power button phone sleeps and never wakes up.
Very very strange at this stage I disabled sleep and with a amoled black bacground using the phone but I really wonder wtf is going on ?

very strange
I made furher research about the issue and here is what i've found.
Some videos mentioned same problem in similar samsung models and they stated that changing the daughterboard that connected to motherboard via screen flex resolved the issue. Other videos reflowed the connector in the motherboard side of the flex.
Also phone not responding the adb power commands while in sleep but responding fine when awake got me thinking there is a problem with a some kind of awake pin of screen. Probably there is a short or a missconnection in that pin. That's why solutions in the videos work I think.
It is definitelty not a software issue because it happens in every official or custom rom except in twrp (which does not put screen into sleep mode according "mScreenState" info)
It is not a hardware issue related to power button. Power button works perfectly fine in recovery, download mode and when awake.
Its a hardware issue that probably about the connection that sends wake up signal which maybe from motherboard side of the connection or maybe daughterboard side.
Not a real solution but I found a app called touch protector which has an option that you can disable the touch and set screen brightness to 0%, basically means normal off state for the amoled screens.
I set double click of volume down to sleep mode for touch protector. Maybe with some keymap editing someone can set powerbuttons function to not real sleep but touch protector's sleep. This will be best software solution.
In the hardware side if the problem is daughterboard it can be swapped easily but reflowing smd connecters in motherboard could be risky for me and I don't want to open the never opened device for not solving the problem.
