Hi all,
When buying your S2 in China, you while probably have the bad surprise to discover Google Play is not installed on the device.
Even by installing some .apk downloaded from the web doesn't solve the issue.
I managed to got mine working. Here's how i did.
I find the hint here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351283
You'll need to Root your device first
Here's how it goes:
1) Install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
This seems to be the issue, as when you install it you can see the permissions Google requires, and pretty much says it can access ALL the data in your phone, even the private stuff. You've been warned. (what did you expect? it's still Google after all)
2) Install Google Play with any .apk you can find, as system app (see bellow):
Instructions (Thanks to Bandage)
-1. Transfer the .apk files to your Kindle Fire via PC / Mac (remember where you put them)
- 2. Open Root Explorer App, and navigate to the transferred .apk files
- 3. Select the GoogleServiceFramework.apk and install
- 4. When complete, click "Done" and return to the file location for Vending.apk
- 5. Long-press Vending.apk and select the "Move" option on pop-up menu
Navigate to /system/app folder
- 6. Change mount option from RO to RW (read-only to read-write)
Paste Vending.apk into the /system/app folder
- 7. Long-press Vending.apk and select "Permissions" from pop-up menu
Change permissions to match all other apps in this folder (rw-r--r--)
- 8. Install Vending.apk
- 9. Reboot device
3) Launch Google Play
You should now be able to input your account and login.
For the first login, you will probably need to turn on both Wifi and APN (also can try turning off Wifi and only use APN).
You can now browse the market, but still can not install any apps.
Final step: You'll need to send some e-mail to Google (go to google play web site -> help). Explain the problem, they need to allow Play to be used by your device.
Took me a couple e-mail to get it right. The google team was very kind open to help (unlike samsung).
Go ahead and install any app you want
I recommend starting by installing Market Unlocker (especially for those in China). It lets you get the market as if you where in another country.
Hope this has been useful.
And don't forget to press the Thanks button
I actually did this a while ago (I wanted to try it out first before sharing). So i may be forgetting some specific points. Let me know how it turns out for you so i can update this How To.
Cheers

Thanks!
I tried many other ways, but they just would not work on my I9100G!
Just now I have tried this simple method and it works perfectly.
For me the final step is not necessary.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate.
Glad i could be of any help
I did add all google services on my chinese G in november, i basically have all google services working, including calendar sync, and still on stock GB.
What i did was to take all the google apps from CM and put them in the system app folder with correct permissions.
But i remember i did setup gmail sync before getting google market (now play store) to work correctly.
For the calendar, only the sync adapter is needed, do not replace other apps, it's not needed.

HI I followed the steps but at stage 3 after reboot I open google play it 'force closes' automatically. I cannot open play app. What may be the issue. This is Chinese phone, i also tried one of the market unlcker.. is there any specific version you can suggest ?
Ok now it opens google play and displays 'loading' but nothing appears. Funny that when I try to install it from website it says 'app will be sent/installed on your phone shortly' but nothing happens
I installed a market unlocker (some random one which configured my China phone for USA T-mobile - there are other countries i can configure for too)
Any guess what could be problem ?
It's not the right way!!!
It seems to work properly, but it may cause some problem, frequent FC for example. And some apps even can't work, such as Foursquare, which you can have a try. It's not only the Google Play but also the whole gapps that are not included in the Chinese ROM. The GoogleServicesFramework.apk and GooglePlay.apk are just part of it, so this problem can't be solved by simply installing some apks.
The right way is to download the right gapps from this page: goo.im/gapps and flash it from CMW.To do that, you must flash a kernel first, such as superatoms, lucir.
Or, you can simply root your phone and decompress that zip file and move it to your phone to the right folder.Never forget to fix the permission. You'd better do that through adb.
I can't agree with what you're saying. I have a chinese G and installed all google apps from Cyanogen wiki, with the exception of goggles, everything else work perfect ! Including Gmail with full sync, contacts with full sync, calendar with full sync, music working, books working etc ... Stock zcki1 rooted.

Thanx for the walkthrough. I got the market working but can't download. Will be contacting Google help soon.
ICS 4.0.4
They just released the ICS 4.0.4 ROM for China, that one also does not have any of the GAPPS, in addition some
service providers actively block Google services so installing GAPPS will do no good unless you set up a VPN

Can someone please explain where and how to change permissions!
What permission are you talking about?
If you are talking about the root, their are a lot of threads talking about how to do it on xda, and all over the web.

I think I may need an 'idiots guide' to all this because I have no clue and no idea what flash and all thats means.... I brought my S2 online and had no idea it was coming from China and that it won't have Google Play on there.
I have tried the above steps but can't even get the 1st one right.. :/
I have tried downloading 'Google Service Framework.apk' from my phone and computer but everytime it tries to install it, it finishes by saying 'Application Not Installed'. Really getting very confused and need urgent help. Please can you let me know where I am going wrong? Many thanks.
Seems you didn't root your phone.
But before doing anything, you should learn a little bit what you are about to do. There are several threads on root issues, or guides for begginers.
Also, double check if you have the i9100 or i9100G version. It's important when you root.

Just wondering about kernel version number too. Mine says '2.6.35.7-I9100'. Does this seem right? Thanks
You are checking the android version. That's not what's important. What you need to check is to take the same kernel version and rom version called basedband version (may be the similar with the build number). For example i have the i9100gzcle2 version. There are some threads about this around here.

Hi shivaraman.
I'm not sure i understand exactly what is your problem. Do you have Play installed? Can you install some apps with it? If yes, you're all good.
Market enabler is only going to help.you once you get Play working correctly. Market Enabler doesnt fix Play. It only simulate you are from another country, as if you changed your sim card.
I figured out this methode using android 2.3.6. There is no guaranty it works on ICS. I would suggest trying swiching back to 2.3.6 (if possible, it might be the hatdest part) and try the methode again. Play stays installed when upgrading to 4.0.4
A lot of apps are blocked due to the chinese ROM. Seem the bootloader is posing the problem and is locked. I still didnt find any solution for that. A couple month ago Odia started posting he may had a solution. But he never told what it was.

Hi All,
I just got my MIX. Stock Chinese ROM. Bootloader locked.
I'm having the hardest time getting google contacts to sync.
I opened up the mi app store and I did a search for 'google'.
I then installed the app that looksl ike a play buttoun surrounded by 4 partial circles (one in each corner). That installed a bunch of google stuff, including play store (which works).
There are no phone contacts though, and when I do:
settings -> other accounts -> Google
I don't see 'contact details' and I feel that's wrong.
I only have 'app data', 'gmail, google fit data, and people details.
I'm still locked so I can't install twrp to install gapps.
any other suggestions?
- Frank
I got it working - used this installer:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=280245&page=2#pid5079888
to install google contacts.
Then enable all contacts permissions for the app, then sync.
How do you guys enable permissions for google apps ? I flashed a Gapps pico zip and it's as if the permission system can't touch apps who are in /system (it's grayed out in the apps list), but i'm getting force close constantly because of google play services having no permissions for location services

Thanks but that's the issue actually, it's not in that list, because it's in /system (I think)
I think I had a similar issue with contacts not syncing from google, I had to permit something(i think it was "google contacts" or just "contacts") in the permission manager and after that it worked just fine after a reboot

I think you have to wait a bit for it to sync and maybe do a reboot and turn sync on off it happened to me aswell
Hey Frank,
I just got my Mi Mix and i'm running into the exact same problem. I have all the other Google play services installed and syncing fine (Gmail, Calendar, etc) but i can't see to get my contacts to show. I've tried installing both Google Contact sync 6.0.1 and even latest 7.1 and given permissions to everything , even tried rebooting multiple times, but contacts wont show in the Google accounts.
How did you get it to work?

I faced permission problems on China Stable and China Developer. I tried:
flashing gapps nano
using installer
following at least 3 different tutorials for MIUI 8 6.x gapps from en.miui.com
I finally gave up and installed the EU rom.
There's one thing missing in EU rom: They restricted the themes to only contaion international (mostly Indian) Themes.
But 90% of the cool themes are in the chinese theme store and they're awesome. But it's not possible to get them if they're paid. I have MiCredits and want to use paid chinese themes, but that's impossible on the EU rom.
I had the same issue when I first got the phone until I installed Google installer for MIUI

Does it manually sync or do you get an error?
I used the v1 installer to install Google contacts (looks like a red square with a white g). I wonder if it installed other frameworks.
Also I set same wakeup privs to the Google play services.
Once I get unlock code and can backup I'll reset my phone and try again from scratch.

Had the same problems with flashing gapps, it seems flashing gapps puts them in /system, which the permission manager in MIUI fails to access, so the system gapps are stuck without proper permissions. No idea how that's even possible since apk's in system get administrative rights AFAIK, probably an additional layer of security in MIUI ?
Eventually I wiped everything, started over again, flashed the dev rom, got these 3 required gapps apk's from apkmirror and installed them manually, everything worked fine after a reboot then.
Google Account Manager 7.1
Google Play services 10.0.84 (448-137749526)
Google Services Framework 6.0.1
Google Contacts Sync 6.0.1 (Not required for basic play store functionality, but you should use this version if you want google contacts sync)
I know there are installers on the miui forums that do this for you but they look very dodgy and the less Chinese apps on this phone the better.

I'm on xiaomi.eu already, with working gapps. But I would be interested to go back to Chinese Developer ROM and install the gapps manually your way.
So which ROM do you use and do your google apps, especially GPS work for Google Maps and can you turn on Google Maps Timeline?
Even after using the installer v2, I found I had to downgrade Google contacts sync to version 4.0.4
Then contacts starting syncing.
Hi all. So just got and put it up for sale as contacts wouldn't sync and I use dual SIM pro to assign a sim to a contact. Even had problems with that. However just come across this thread and wondered if I installed EU Rom and these apps it would work?
How do I install the EU Rom?
Sorry for the noob questions.
First try Google contacts sync to version 4.0.4
I got mine yesterday and installed nova launcher prime and works great.

Can you give you details. I tried this and contacts just won't sync.
I am on Dev Rom 6.12.29.
What version of contacts did you use?
Hi !
On my nokia 7 plus (android 9 / 00WW_3_39D) I have a problem on google play store.
When I install an application no progress notification of download and installation is displayed ...
But I have the right to install installed ...
I launched "reset pref apps"
Verifications of the authorization of the notifications in the checked, unchecked and recchecked parameters (for google play store, download, service play store)
Restart phone.
With these manipulation: no positive impact.
When I download to a browser without problems, the notification and download icon in progress is displayed.
Here is a screenshot "log of notifications":
download but not visible in the bar ... application has been installed this time visible ....
if you have any ideas to solve this problem I'm interested: D

TA-1046?
Yes it is the version TA-1046.
I have unstall update and install old version from APK Mirror This has not solved the problem:/
Problem solved!!!
Wifi & 4g Disable,
Deleting the Play Store and service Play store data,
Disabled Play Store,
Clean Cache with Sdmaid,
Restart the smartphone,
Reactivate the Play Store,
Download Notification and installation progress works perfectly!!
Thank you!
Hi,
other solution found on the forum OnePlus:
"
So i cleared the cache and data of Google play Store and boom it worked. Now download progress bar is there.
So the steps that worked for me was:
1) Settings-> app & notification->see all apps->3 dot at top & choose show system-> android setup-> clear cache and data
2) Go back-> scroll down to download manager app-> turn off all the setting and enable it again
RESTART NOW
3) Go to app and notification-> select Google play Store-> clear cache and data
Now start downloading any app.

Steps to install in countries where OTA has not come yet:
1. Install a VPN client from Google Play
2. Shut down phone and remove SIM card(s)
3. Restart, head to settings and clear cache and data for Google App, Google Framework, Google Play Services and Location Service
4. Reboot
5. Start wifi and open VPN client, chosing as country Germany or Netherlands or India. For me, in Romania, model TA-1053, selecting Germany did the trick
5. Go to update and check. You may have to repeat this last operation a few times if no luck from first one.
Can confirm this works

I have an TA-1053, and I use it in Hungary. I installed ExpressVPN form play store, and selected the Netherlands server, and my phone automatically downloaded the update.
Cool I will try for my ta1024
No, not work for my model.
Does not work for model 1024
Confirmed
Anyone can provide ota link for TA-1053? I tried this method but doesn't work.
Apparently for our (1053) model at the moment there is no way, it remains to wait
My model used in the tutorial is TA-1053, I specified it. If you really need, I can post picture.

4. Select Google app and clear cache and all data.
5. Select Google Play Services and clear cache and all data.
6. Select Google Services Framework and clear cache and all data.

Working for TA-1024. Thanks
Is there any way to revert back Oreo after updating Pie? Pie seems to work quite bad, for example screen won't turn off at all. It just keep changing between black screen, clock on black screen and lockscreen randomly for ages. I have restarted phone but it won't help. Oreo worked quite good so I want it back..:crying:
The metod works great on TA-1024, just updating now, thanks a lot prietene, să trăiești!
Can somebody backup OTA file for ta-1024 model?!
Glad it works @WildWolfInside . Sa traiesti you too!

This works for the TA-1027 if set on the Netherlands server.
Greetings,
I have put together a proper tutorial for you all who need it on how to get Google Play Services on the Mate 40 series!
This is confirmed to work on the Chinese versions / the Mate 40 RS Porsche which is a china exclusive device as well. It's possible it could work on International models but I do not have one to test so that will be up to you here. Nonetheless let's begin the tutorial shall we?
Make sure there are no google apps installed prior to this tutorial. This is crucial! This includes Chrome.
Google won't let me share a link to the google apps so look up John Wang on youtube and you should be able to find the GMS install with his download link on the video.
Next: extract the Huawei.zip file in step 1 folder to the root of your internal storage it should ask you to merge with an existing folder please do so. If it does not, just proceed to copy it to the root of the internal storage.
You will then need to go into your system settings, and change your date& Time to say June 1st of 2020, a necessary step to get the LZ Play app (The Blue G) working again.
Once this is done, go to your settings on your Huawei device, where the search bar is, type Backup and select the second option Backup & Restore.
Tap the 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen and select Restore from Internal Storage.
From here, you should have one backup option to select from December 6, 2019 1:09 PM.
Enter the password a12345678
Next, open the LZ Play app installed now from the backup, activate it as administrator, allow anything it asks, and then press the blue button to get it working, leave it run in the background so do not close it.
Now at this point, please set your system date and time back to Set Automatically again.
Next, restart your phone.
Go to your file browser on your Huawei phone, the yellow folder, and install Micro G app in the step 2 folder.
Now, go to your settings, Users& Accounts
Then Add Account
Then Google
Then Sign In (if it closes out do it again)
At this point type in your google account information username and password.
Click on I agree when you get to the end part of adding your google account.
Now install the Google apps under Step 3
Install 3.apk first which is Google Play Store
Install Google Service Framework 7.apk
Install Google Account Manager 6.apk
Open Google Play Store
Uninstall Micro G
Install Google Play Services apk 3.apk
Close out of Google Play Store, re open, and keep hitting retry until the play store loads up. If it does not load up after significant amount of retries, simply reboot device and open Google Play Store again and hit refresh until it loads.
We are almost done! Now we are going to fix the Google Play Protect Not Certified Error next
Put your device into Airplane mode so no data is being used during this step otherwise it won't work!
Open Apps under your settings, and tap the 3 dots, show system processes.
Type Google
Open Google Service Framework, select storage, clear data, then go back one and force stop it
Open Google Play Store, force stop.
Open Google Play Services, just clear cache (NOT DATA)
Restart Phone
Go back to settings and Apps, tap the 3 dots, show system processes.
Type Google
Select Google Play Services. Clear cache. Then Clear All Data under Manage Storage Force stop it.
Restart Phone once more.
Turn off Airplane Mode. / Turn your internet back on
Open Google Play Store and you should be all set, no Not Google Play Certified Error or anything bad. You should be able to use Gmail, Youtube etc. You may not be able to use Google Pay as I have not tested it but believe it does not work.
Any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.!
Ca you please provide another link for the download..
I am getting this error... seems someone is not happy
We're sorry. You can't access this item because it is in violation of our Terms and Conditions.
Thanks for the guide, I have an international version of the mate 40 which I want to try this with.
When following another guide, I uninstalled the backup app to install another version but it fails and says 'you already have a newer version of this app'. When going to my apps, there's no backup app installed and nothing comes up in HiSearch. When I go to backup and restore in settings, the screen is blank.
I've tried installing other versions of the backup app from my mate 20 but it comes up with the same version message.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I have downloaded a copy of the downloads from another site.
I have an international version of the Mate 40 Pro (NOH-NX9)
I tried the steps above, some are a bit different like Back/Restore option. I have copied the backup file to the repository on an external USB drive where usually restore files are backed up and its showing when I try to restore it.
It does restore LZ Play app (The Blue G) , but does not load when executing saying (This device is not currently supported).. of course in Chinese language. From there I can't go any further.
I'd love to try an international version, but the file is no longer available: "We're sorry. You can't access this item because it is in violation of our Terms of Service."
Google doesn't like our attempts, please use some independent sharing space.
(wrong entry, I would delete it, sorry)
I have the same phone and the same issues. Would be really hulpfull if there was a fix. I tried all the guides (also the one above) and I'm always stuck on the "blue G" application that won't run properly...
There is no fix.
Wow really google is saying my upload violates terms and conditions? Lame. I know it works for sure on Chinese variants I don't have an International one to test on. Makes me wonder if Huawei is purposely leaving this exploit open on the Chinese models?

At least for me, I didn't have to switch to a different backup app, I just used the one that came with my phone and it worked.
Seems google won't let me upload it for some reason again. Look up John Wang Huawei on youtube, his download should still work.

The Chinese version can be used. The international version cannot be used. I am using the international version. My display is "Google Service Assistant does not support". My friend’s is the Chinese version. They are all available! This is because Huawei faces US sanctions! I don’t want the international version of the mobile phone to be insecure, so the international version has no BUG! There is a Chinese version because it is used in China and no one pays attention to in China phone.

Thx for the info, Huawei really need to prioritise fetching localised Apps (Bank App, Credit card App etc.) to feed App Gallery. I'm holding my trigger of Mate40 Pro until the availability of localised Apps or when GMS side loadable.

you're welcome !Yes! This is
because Huawei cannot use GMS because of US sanctions! So huawei developed himself HMS, so huawei loyal users will feel very bad! sort time no app to use !This requires a process and more developers join Harmony2.0! There are more mobile apps if the ecology is improved! Don't worry, I believe it will be soon!
As of the latest EMUI it is now impossible to use this method. I'm not sure if it still works prior to the recent firmware update but it completely broke google services for me. So looks like aurora and Amazon app store for me again ugh lol
