GOOD NEWS - Official UK PIE roll out available now!! - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Available right now on note 9 and possible other devices.
Enjoy!

Nice, where's the US version?

Audio is much better. Think the LDAC implementation has improved. Tested with Tidal MQA playback with Sony WH1000MX3.

I'm in Manchester, UK and I haven't received it for my Note 9 yet ? I can't wait!

Thanks very much Asus. I prefer a phone with removable battery and snapdragon. A liitle more affordable for me. So were getting screwed. Bull****.
Confirmed and planning are 2 different things. And with Asus' track record, all we can do is hope.
Posted using my phone.
According to this link, Zenfone 3 has been spotted online running Android marshmallow. I'm not sure if this can be believed as is, but if this is true, hopefully we should get Android M pretty soon... :fingers-crossed:
I hope they will add the VoLTE support along with Android M update for Zenfone 2 Laser [2gb ram version.]
Otherwise, I am pretty sure Asus will loose ample amount of market share in India since Reliance Jio is launching soon with VoLTE.

P20 Pro New owner?

Hi i am on the fence on whether i should purchase a p20 pro I have always been a clean android software guy used Oneplus , Pixel even custom roms on a redmi phone. How does this phone compare ? And has anyone come from similar situation from clean stock android to p20 pro .
i've come from pixel xl 128gb pure stock to huawei p20 pro - the phone is brilliant, but there are so many variants out there and if in uk and get the c782 version we seem to be getting left behind in regards to the updates
I've come from a sony, which is very close to the pixel, and I got used to very fast. What I like is that it has many features which the stock android doesn't have.

Most UK resellers will supply the C782 model even if sim free. This is then updated by the carrier of whichever sim you first insert. Three will also update boot animation so you have their big logo on it.
A lot of users (myself included) have the C782 model.

This is what I was lead to believe however, I have a Vodafone contract through a 3rd party provider.
My c782 is still on .110 but I have read on the Vodafone forums that their devices have been updated to .128 over 2 weeks ago [emoji19]

If you're a pure android person, as in Pixel / Pixel 2, this phone will be pretty stuttery to you and the lack of updates will frustrate. I am on April 1 security patch, and Instagram which is the main app I use, is quite laggy graphically.
Aside from the lack of updates, crap selfie camera and stuttery performance in some apps, the phone is top of the pile right now.
The speakers, screen, camera, and speed of the phone are top notch .

Hi, my wife just got this phone and I'm tempted too. I saw your comment and she has c782.
Do you know if you root and flash a custom ROM do you get regular updates then ?
if she has only just got it, then she will need to pay to get it unlocked (there is thread on this) as huawei no longer provide unlock codes.
you will need to rebrand the phone to C432 model to be able to get the updates, if you leave on C782 then you are reliant on the network operators and huawei to decide when we will receive updates

who do the updates come from if it's not Huawei? google directly?
no, the updates come from huawei but the network operators have to authorise its release
Hi guys, I’m jumping in on this thread as I’m seriously considering a P20 Pro.
I’m thinking of buying from John Lewis in the U.K. and I’m on BT Mobile as my provider - does anyone have any experience with the updates or as to what model of phone i would get if buying from John Lewis?
Also, how are you guys finding the battery life on the P20 Pro?

Battery life is amazing and if i was you i would ask if the p20 pro is unlocked and non branded otherwise you have to wait for the carrier updates, which are so damn slow. I came from a oneplus 6 and im happy that i bought the p20 pro less then 2 weeks ago and this phone is just the best.

Thanks for the reply. I just need to see the P20 so I can get an idea of the physical size of it. I’ve been using this iPhone 6s for so long that I’m guessing anything bigger is going to really feel massive.

Ha, yea its pretty huge if you come from a iPhone but its still awesome due to 1 hand mode or using the home button to navigate the phone, which i use currently.

Well, the Oneplus 6 isn't bad and software wise its one of the fastest phones you can get right now besides the pixels but.... i didn't like the camera! The camera is oke when used in full daylight but at low light its just terrible and the sound quality isn't also that good. The oneplus 6 is better at taking video's etc but the p20 pro is way better at taking photo's.
also the overal build quality on the p20 pro is and feels so much better.

I've been thinking about ditching the P20 Pro and switching to OnePlus ot back to Google with Pixel 3, but can't make mind up
Update: just checked the pixels out and they look premium, interface seems slick, but u need 128gb version as 12gb has already been used with nothing else installed. The XL looks spot on and size is same as P20 Pro.

Note 9(8gb version /exynos) vs mate20 pro which would u pick & why?

Hi guys
I was a samsung user since s1-s8+ including note lineup too, but it bugged me down the lag & stuttering that I have seen through every one of them including S8+ so, I decided to try mate 10 pro & it delivered wt it promised great camera , battery & fantastic performance but the software is a little disappointing so, I want to ask u guys about the note9 did they figure out to make the phone non stuttery or is it just another stuttrry samsung phone ?
Last point [note 9 (8gb version)=813$ in my country/mate 20 pro 880$(6gbversion) ]
So, what would you pick & why ?
Sorry to make it such long thread.
Thx in advance
Been using the Note 9 since it's August launch. The phone doesn't really stutter and is pretty smooth overall. The camera is absolutely fantastic although the Mate 20 Pro does have a few tricks up it's sleeve that might make it a better overall shooter than the Note 9.

Thx , but what about the battery performance is consistent? & Which version of the note 9 did you use exynos or snapdragon?6 or 8 gb of ram.
Had the 20 pro and didn't like it due to the software. Now have the note 9 512gb and 5 stars so far fast never had a closed app. Battery is OK depends what you do but watching filmes for 3 hrs phone texts mail browsing and social network get about 6 to 7 SOT.

I have the Exynos with 8GB RAM/ 512 GB storage. It's not as fast as the Snapdragon but more than good enough for everything I use it for on a daily basis. I don't game much on the phone but am a heavy duty user of phone calls, emails, office applications, YouTube and WhatsApp. The phone works perfectly well. I often find myself needing to charge the phone after about 10 hours off the charger but that's probably due to my heavy screen on usage and range anxiety.

It was... A lot of people and reviewers say that the Samsung experience a clunky and laggy a to be fair was the thing I really missed. And when the new one UI comes in January one hand operation will be the best... Kudos for Samsung to try make it better... Only fast updates will be the one thing to be sorted.

Which one of them u feel more snappy & smooth performance? What about battery performance of note 9?
Hi,
I hopw my review would help someone.
I had Mate 20 Pro and I can say the pictures are awesome and that's it. Battery helds 7hrs+ SoT and that would be all the pro points.
Against would be the unconfortable design which is slimer and longer than S9+ or Note 9 (I have S9, S9+ and Note 9 and previous i had S8 and S7, S6 and S6 Edge).
Against also the EMUI software on top of Android Pie which os uncnfortable to use.
Beside this, the software update is horrible, worst than Samsung. Top device but latest update from October 1st and we are already in December?!
Customer support from Huawei is unexistent. They don't know nothing never.
I bought something from Huawei AppStore (like GalaxyApps) but i wasn't able to use due to an issue..neither support knew..speachless.
Also the Huawei firnware finder doesn't compare to Samfirm or Odin. Huawei firmware softwate is terrible than everythink you can imagine.
And i got back Mate 20 Pro and got a Note 9 512GB with 8GB RAM and works perfectly.
I get good pictures, fiability, 6hrs+ SoT, infinit themes and stability. I am pleased.

I agree with this. EMUI is horrible. Terrible experience. I was using P10 and P20. On P10 is nougat 7.0 out of the box. Huawei updated it to Oreo 8.0. They just skip 7.1.1 and 7.1.2. Plus Huawei close the door to any development after they make bootloader unlock code unavailable. The most annoying part was EMUI keep killing the background process. Sometimes notification will arrive late or u need to open back the app to receive notification. I think this is why huawei devices have good battery by killing all the background process. Well just a thought.

I ove TouchWiz bec. it is free u can do whatever you want within it but my hate point is that it is unable to maintain its performance in day to day usage it is inconsistent if they solve that after the s8+ it would be great I really want that 8gb version & that monster storage but I am afraid of that lag & stutter
I will try to upload video today to show you lag & stutter of my previous s8+ .

i can safely tell you that all the lag is FINALLY gone. the s9/note9 era fixed that issue. it always bothered me on the note8 to have that lag/stutter. between that and the tiny battery i couldn't bear it.

Now u make me want to buy it right now I just will wait for 2 weeks to finish my exams .
Thanks man .
TL;DR Samsung rocks, EMUI makes it hard to like the Huawei
I currently have the Note 9 8gb version 9601U and I have the Mate 20 Pro 8gb version. I like the Samsung better.
Both show no lag whatsoever but the Huawei has some quirks that I just can't deal with. For 8gb it shuts down apps I have running in the background that it should not. The Huawei also doesn't play well with my Android auto. I often have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work.
EMUI is just too different for me. This is the first phone in the hundreds I've owned that I installed Nova launcher. Battery life on both phones was comparable. Charging too as I didn't have the adapter for my super fast charger to plug the Mate into a US outlet.
Reverse charging was kinda cool but did not use it as often as I thought. My kids have gotten more responsible with charging their own devices. The fingerprint sensor wasn't as accurate as I'd hoped either. The slowness I expected but often times I'd have to reposition or wipe off my finger to get it to work.
The camera on the Huawei was about as awesome as you would expect. The best feature on this phone by far. I also felt it was a better looking device but that is it's only real advantage to me.
The final straw came when I noticed it would shut off my VPN in the background a couple times a day. That was absolutely unacceptable. Even with the Killswitch on, it completely shut down the VPN app so it bypassed the apps Killswitch function. No way I can deal with that.
The Samsung does everything great. If it's not the best at something, it's really close. It has very few bugs that I've noticed which is very refreshing. And all the features on the phone and in its Experience software have been great. I just wish it didn't try to force it's Samsung apps on me but that is easily disabled and ignored. Also no lag whatsoever. And its RAM is incredible. Apps that a used days ago are waiting fir me in the state I left it. It shocks me sometimes, lol.
Sorry for the long post.

Well, If it's true that everything that borns sooner or later has to die, note 9 that was born with Oreo having Video pro in the camera hope it would die on Android 10 having again Video pro in the camera...mater of justice if it comes back.

Android 11 on SM-G7810

Hello!
I have just received my phone, and, to my surprise, realised it was the Hong Kong version(it was bought in Europe, 8 GB version). Has anyone with this device received the Android 11 update? I got the December security patch when I first booted, but no Android 11 yet..
No I have also this phone but still nothing
Same model, and still not android 11.
My brother have a exynos version, he got it like 2 weeks ago
If you wanted the Euro variant I would contact the shop you bought it from, but the extra 2GB of storage is kinda cool. The twrp/rooting/xposed guide in the section suggestion you can do those things just as well on your G7810.
Regarding Android 11, have you tried using Samsung keis to see if it has an option for A11..?
Look what I'm getting!

Still waiting on it for SM-G781B (Singapore) - but it looks like this model trails HK updates by a few days, so expect it any day now. Really we can't complain about the current speed of Samsung OS updates...
*Edit*: Yup, just as I suspected, received the update today - maybe this serves as some comfort for all you 7810 owners that the HK updates are not the slowest after all? In any event, they're still plenty fast for all of us in my opinion - certainly much faster than they used to be...
