So I was looking at PhoneArena, and apparently, we're getting Marshmallow in February 2016. Link: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Road...evices-will-be-updated-to-Marshmallow_id75779
What do you think about this?
No Exynos (C/H/U) love?
Add exynos model U to the list. I still don't have Android 5.1.1 on my n910u note 4. Looks like marshmellow will be a long wait.

I dont believe in this as in most of the cases samsung get behind the schedule...
But in some rare cases they actually get far ahead of the competition.
Example note 3(exynos)
It received lollipop before note 4.
So i think we(n910g) might get marshmallow in late december or early jan...
Or atleast get few leaked firmware.
Note 5 is getting the update as we speak, a user posted it in their section

Someone getting a test version by accident isn't the same as an official update. February is pretty far away, but I'll probably get the S7 if it comes with a 4K screen anyway so it doesn't really matter.
My god, a three month wait is an eternity for products with such a short life-cycle.

LOL! But yeah, Samsung update situation is pretty bad, esp with Note 4.
Just chill. I've been observing this pattern since 3 years. Whenever google releases an android update in october, it takes atleast 3 to 4 months for samsung to get it on their high-end phones. So expect marshmallow somewhere in late december or january.

been out since nov 1st. battery is great on 5.1.1
And by the time the Note 4 does get 6.0 Google will have out either 6.0.2 or be ready for 6.1, also not all regions will see it in Feb next year if that roadmap is legit.
The Simfree Note 4 in the UK for example will be lucky if they see it before the Summer next year.
I love Samsung phones but their update policy is dire, my spare simfree Galaxy Alpha only recently got 5.0.2.
I've now switched to the Nexus 6 as my main phone, & sold the Note 4 months ago because of the lack of updates.

Wrong. It doesn't means that you'll get 6.0 by february. If another update (6.0.1, 6.1.1, etc) arrives while the Touchwized 6.0 version is in development, it will be adapted to the lastest version. I.e we never had 5.0, instead we had got 5.0.1 and then 5.1.1 excluding 5.0.2. This means that if any other update comes out, 6.0 will probably be excluded.
Samsung is doomed to lose a lot of Sam customers with this.
1 They've decided to release phone with No SD Slots, No removable batteries and count all the N4 hate list!!!
This looks like my last Sam Phone
Man, I would lose my temper if the Marshmallow on the Note 4 is worse than the Marshmallow on the A-E series. I mean, seriously, A-E series gets themeable Lollipop while we're stuck in old TouchWiz? Freaking blasphemy!
It's the latest.

Dude, we're still getting monthly security updates and we should be thankful for that. If you want the latest and greatest Android version, upgrade your phone. Note 4 is old, it's acceptable if it doesn't received Nougat.

Your petition is biased.
Why not SM-N910 to make it general?
Anyway I'm of the opinion that since the phone was released in October 2014, it should be updated to Nougat because its two-year OS eligibility falls within the time Nougat was officially released by Google.
Not to mention we would have a Note7 by now if Samsung hadn't messed it up. But I agree, the petition is not inclusive for all models .
I only said that I have the F version. I didn't said that only that version deserved the update.

I agree completely, it should be N910 in general but I saw the OP reply below and he is correct that the petition he wrote it just stating his model and not to get nougat only for the F model. I also agree with the second point and have been sort of annoyed with Samsung for this, it's supposed to be 2 year OS update so as mentioned, Oct. 2014 for Note 4 launch and since Nougat came out in August 2016 we should have it. Add to that, a lot of us Note 4 owners bought, and ultimately lost, the Note 7's thanks to Samsung and as a gesture to sort of make up for that they should have added the Note 4 to the Nougat release.
Anyway going slightly off topic;
I love my Note 4 but am ready for a new device. Personally, I love the s-pen and hate to give it up but if the pricing rumors hold true and the conversion to Canadian is somewhat accurate it would be in the $1300 range (give or take) for the S8 so Note 8 would likely be in the same price range. No way will I accept those prices but I will wait and see with the S8 info that comes later today and decide from there. The Note 7 was $1050 CDN, I won't support Samsung if the Note 8 is anything above MAX $1100 CDN and less than 64GB storage (and better have expandable) as that is expensive enough as it is and pushing it IMO.
I'm waiting to see the OnePlus 5 later this year and will likely buy that if Samsung starts going to ridiculous Apple prices. Google also lost me after the Pixel phones being ridiculously overpriced as well. I mean, they want more for the Pixel XL than Samsung wanted for the Note 7... WTF Google?!? That's like LG and HTC thinking they can price at the same range as Samsung as well when they have so little to offer or reason to buy over Samsung and especially over some of these new phones from OnePlus, Huawei, etc... but $1180 for 128GB Pixel XL/$1050 for 32GB Pixel XL compared to $1050 for 64GB Note 7 and well the Note 7 was the far better deal, and phone.
Anyway, that's my rant/2 cents lol.
As long as you are all in signing mode, here is a petition where you can state all you want in the Note8

So I'm stuck with what's on here now. I just cant see spending another $1000.00 for a new phone. Its getting ridiculous with all these new devices coming out.
I think that S8 doesn't deserve Android Q because it has like 3 years old but Note 8 just had 1 year and 11 months when android 10 final was released.

Both the SGS8 series and the Note 8 were both released in the same year. The old differences is that the SGS8 was released earlier than the Note 8. That said they both run on the same hardware with the exception that the Note 8 has the S-Pen.

This sounds good on paper, but it is still an "old" device (in 2020) that will soon suffer a similar (unsupported) fate to the Note 8 in a few more months.
I believe Samsung is in the business of primarily selling only new phones, so I suspect the Note8's performance may become throttled like an old iPhone in the monthly security updates.
I can't consider selling my Note8 to buy a Note9 for a few dollars more when they are basically the same thing just to get Q. I'm not yet seeing a feature in the Note10 to make me part with my money other than the eye-candy interface.
Q is not worth spending extra cash for. Have tried it on my N9 and N10 and went back to Pie on both. Just my opinion others love it. I still use my N8 and it is still one of the best devices out there in 2020, but let's face it Samsung only gives 2 major updates to a device so S8 Note 8 will not be getting it. Can it support it??? I'm sure it can but Samsung wants to make money by getting boneheads like me to purchase a new device.

Third major update: Android 6.0.1 "Marshmallow"
Note 8 Operating system

Yes both have same hardware but Note 8 has 6GB RAM and Dual camera and the S8 4GB with a Single camera. I think that a mobile that was release near 2018 by 1000$ deserved Android Q. Samsung policies must change in the flagship.
What's even worse is I'm running a Touchwiz Android 9 rom with Android 10 apps on my 6 edge plus. International device used here in United states with wifi calling..video calls..advanced messaging and volte. My point is if the old 6edge plus can handle this there is no reason the S8 or N8 cant. But I just dont see it happening. Many will read this thread and ask what's the point. But I like to see things like this talked about even if it doesn't go anywhere.

It's not financially viable to support an old device for another year... It might make people NOT shell out $1000+ for a new device if the operating system is the same & officially supported....
It takes a special breed to root, flash and enjoy the fruits of our labour that most people WON'T do with a device that cost a large chunk of cash. Hell, most people don't even know what Android 10 is.
The average consumer has no idea how, or why it's a good thing to use the latest operating system...
Yes this was the point I made before. It's all about $$$$[emoji16]. And you are exactly right, we are a rare breed on xda. Most people get a device because it looks good. Not because of battery..display..themes..roms...root..disable this keep that...camera...lol its shiny so I'm buying it.

I don't think those articles about the Note 8 getting Android 10 is incorrect. As the Note 8 has already received 2 major android OS updates. However we should still receive security patches for android Pie.
Ok, so I really have serious thoughts of throwing in the towel, buy a s21 Ultra, and say goodbye (forever) to Xiaomi.
I gave Xiaomi a second chance with the Mi 11 Ultra (Global), having previously tried the Mi 10. Camera aside (which on Global still hasn't got the DXO updates), I really find the absence of SW updates highly disappointing (no update for two months, May Security release - in August), accompanied with minor SW annoyances proper testing would squash.
Have anyone had same throughts?

I am not impressed by the phone either and it's the first and probably last time I'll buy from them
The hardware sounds good on paper
The software is junk and I've tried all the ROMs
The camera isn't as good as it should be
The rear screen functionality is a joke
The USB 2.0 file transfer takes forever
The gorilla glass "victus" even picked up a scratch in the first month and I was getting relatively careful with the phone (by my standards)
The Samsung is a better all-round device but I don't want 25w charging in 2021 so I decided the Xiaomi will have to do
Seems like the best sd 888 flagship now is probably the honor magic 3 or the if you can find one or maybe the p50 pro + if you want the best camera....
Xiaomi.eu rom (frequent updates) + gcam for camera and I think it's great.
Do agree with the USB 2.0 though..
Honestly it's a Chinese phone so chinese market gets treated much better with frequent updates, ao for the global market unless you speak Chinese the only alternative is going with Xiaomi EU ROM
Samsung can make excellent flagship phones but the S21U is a dog.
You want a SD card slot... and an spen.
This year is dead as Zed as far as Samsung is concerned.
Either wait to see what Samsung releases next year (there should be a Note released) or get a Note 10+ or Note 20U.
Personally my pick is still the 10+ running on Pie.
Android 10 and especially 11 are a mess with lame Apple like scope storage that eats CPU cycles for nothing but trouble.
Yeah Android dropped the ball worse than Samsung.
It's been a ball dropping year...

All updates in the China roms (stable and nightly beta's) are in the Xiaomi.eu roms (stable and weekly). What those developers do is take the China rom, strip out all Chinese bloat and script and add Google services, as well as, other custimization features. Before You throw in the towel, try this rom.

I was supersatisfied with my Note 9 and I'm buying the s21 Ultra 512 since I'm getting it at a super-good price, and it's camera seems to be better than the Note 20 Ultra, based on what I've seen. So yes, I agree that Sammy is making better flagships.

Snap... you could have got a Note 20 U for less. With its 1tb SD card capacity, 128gb internal memory is fine. Lol, I'm using 64 of my 512gb internal memory.
This is my first Xiaomi phone in over 10 years and I'm still willing to give them more chances as it didn't break my bank and we have an amazing EU custom rom dev who works tirelessly for our Western community fanbase to fine tune it for our audience, which isn't always easy. I initially was very dissatisfied with the CN stable but now all my Google apps are working as they should on the EU Weekly - I would recommend trying it as I was skeptical at first.

Yeah, it's my choice. But then again, I don't want to go down that path; I can even flash EEA on my Global too. Why, I explained before.
I simply experience too many issues with it to give it another shot:
* When I play YT videos, the sound seems to dance between the left and right speaker,
* The notification shade from time-to-time doesn't follow the theme,
* I find the cell reception to be worse than other phones I've used,
* The proximity sensor is behaving erroneously (been covered in this forum),
* Lack of SW updates,
* It's a Global device and the official MI service cannot, per agreement, serve the phone,
* I find the build quality not to be premium (my old OP 8 Pro, even Note 9, has a better grip in the hand)
I need not continue...
The SW needs way more polishing, in my eyes, to be worth the money.
Hello,
I recently bought the GT 5G, without knowing that GT 2 is on its way. Now, I can easily return the GT and preorder de GT 2. Looking at the GT 2, it has:
better camera (which I don't really care)
bigger display
bigger battery
corning gorilla glass 5
nonetheless, the promise of 3 years of major android updates.
I appreciate the new update policy, slightly bigger battery and corning gorilla glass. What are your guys thoughts, if you were in my position, and for those that have it, how is the experience so for, are pleased with the phone ?
P.S: I paid for my GT 5G Yellow Racing - 448 € Currently the GT 2 (12 GB variant) is on preorder for 545 €
Thank you !
Depending where you are the GT 2 128gb is 449€ again on amazon spain.
For that price I would return it.
I'm loving the phone apart from a small issue on the screen. Super quick charge, great camera, navigation feels fluid and quick, no lag or anything. For my use, no games, it's more than enough.
I just wish it was a little smaller, I'm not used to it.
3 years of updates isn't a good reason from my view point except maybe to fix the Android 12 fubar
Seriously if the current firmware is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be.
This Samsung N10+ is still running very well on Pie. I have no intentions of ever "upgrading" to 11 or 12... maybe 10 although it's no cherry.
If you can turn it and not lose much money, ok.
Otherwise maybe wait for the next release; get a phone and OS version you like and ride it for a while.
Fk the hype sales gimmicks... both Google and Samsung taught me that

The N8 is ancient. I had a S4+ before the N10+'s... yeah future shock. Lol, I was running on Kitkat/Touchwiz for years.
The Note series zenith was the N10+, after which Samsung has dropped more balls than a spastic labrador.
I don't blame you for bailing
And you got a 3.5mm jack... unfortunately no SD card slot. I would like to see Samsung have more effective competition now that LG is gone.
The problem with smaller manufacturers is less devices and often less support by fellow users.
3 yrs update is a very good reason to get GT 2 as GT was launched with android 11 and 2 years update policy.
With GT 2 launching with android 12 + 3 yrs update u will get updates till android 15 , while on GT only till android 13. Thats 2 years of better software support.
Good decision.
