Since Android Pie now has navigation gestures, how do you activate Google Assistant? Previously it was hold on home button.
Middle swipe up and hold.

Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
I noticed this wont work on home screen if you got Samsung pay enabled to swipe from bottom. Then that will keep activating instead of Google assistance :/

Yup. It's an annoyance, but I like having Samsung Pay there too much to turn that option off. I usually just open the app drawer and swipe up from there for Google Assistant.

Does anyone know if Google just completely axed the Google now swipe up nav ring thing? I really miss this functionality and seems like now all I can do is old home button down to access now on tap, then hit the Google now button to get into now app.
Swipe up works to get to Google Now. There is no ring now. Just straight to Google now. On Tap hasn't even been implemented yet as far as I know.

Are you on the latest M preview? Swiping up does nothing for me, only holding down works. That simply brings up now on tap screen which isn't implemented yet so it only has a clickable button to take you to Google now lol...
I can't swipe up, just hold the home button to activate Google Now. Still annoying the on tap thing comes up first
Hello,
I've been using the Nokia 7 plus for two days now and it's a great device which I'm really happy with.
I have this really annoying problem with my navigations bar home button, whenever I press it there are these red, gree, blue and yellow dots popping off and if I long press it it opens up the Google Assistant.
Is there a way to disable these features or at least remove the long press to open up Google Assistant?

Thank you it works!
And now after I disabled Google Assistant from my home button can I use it with voice commands again?

Unfortunely no. It needs to be your assist app for voice commands to work.

you can use a different launcher. In nova launcher you can disable the home button behavior and still keep the voice command.
I do not know how can you remove the animations with the dots, though.
I am using PIE controls. The hardware button is really annoying as it keeps getting accidentally pressed when activating PIE. Is there anyway to disable it completely? I am rooted but none of the button remapper apps seem to work.

I've tried all the options there. I am on stock rom as well. Its currently on Virtual Navigation Bar. But a single table on the home button still brings me back to Home.

Yeah i just tested it myself now and i get same thing. using virtual navigations. The home button is still acting as home button, you can touch it and it will still take you back to home screen.
I need to disable touch on FP scanner without denying unlock via FP scanner. I too would like to use pie controls if this can be achieved. @sacredsouls what PIE are you using? Rooted or stock?

I am rooted. Just an app called 'Pie Controls'.
Has anyone found a way to disable this button?
I'm in the verge of throwing my phone at an oncoming train in aggravation because of how frequently I hit that button in error

Nope, I gave up using PIE and I am just using the onscreen nav now.
I am using only the home button. Full screen real estate. So satisfying. I have no issues now that I've gotten used to it. Went back to my Pixel and the navbar method felt backward.
It's just muscle memory. Use the FPS and in just a few days, you'll be set. So long as you don't use other devices in between.
Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.
The functionality is built right into One Hand Operation+ in the Good Lock App

you can use OHO+ without goodlock though, if you only need the lockscreen gesture.
OHO+ is a "standalone" app, luckily.
Screen lock button in navbar via good lock + navstar ?
Samsung rolled out the update to natively remap Bixby's button. I cannot figure out how to get it open the Google Assistant as if I pressed and held the home button.
So far I've tried setting a tap of the Bixby button to :
Launch the Google app but that opens Google with the standard search bar focused for keyboard input.
Installed the Google Assistant app. The icon now shows on my launcher (Nova) but doesn't show in the app selection screen in the Bixby remap area.
Restarted my phone to try and get the Google Assistant icon to show up in the remap area.
I'm probably missing something real simple. Any ideas?

I'm trying to do the same thing. The assistant app does not show on the list of apps that can be hard with the Bixby button.
Maybe Samsung is blocking that app from being used.
This would be sweet, following.
There's an app bxactions it let me remap mine one click and Camera long press Google Ass, volume buttons to.
This is on oreo 8.1.0 se9.5 and you need to use adb for full options

It uses accessibility services which are known to add lag. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hOyBrZqy3N21uoy9nVmbK1i_zyPnIXbs/view You can use this google asssistant shortcut apk shared on reddit to toggle via built-in bixby settings.

Well that was timely! I read the first article about the feature before I posted. I thought maybe it was just my phone.

That's pretty crappy of Samsung -- They have to know Bixby sucks - they let you remap the button but cripple it so we cannot use it the way most would want to.

This worked perfectly. Thank you!!
Spoke too soon. It doesn't support "What's on my screen." So it's missing some sort of functionality somehow.

Yeah bxactions developer implemented it somehow. It is different when you say ok google and when you click its shortcut or widget. You probably dont have screenshot option either. With gestures swiping and holding home is simpler to me and I remapped my bixby key to gcam. Hope you find a workaround though
