Lockscreen notification drawer lag after Android 9 update - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I noticed if I use the default infinity wallpapers, when you swipe down the notification drawer from the lockscreen it's a smooth animation
However when I use a different wallpaper, even the samsung wallpapers as long as it's not infinity branded, swiping down the notification drawer from the losckreen is jittery and slow. It doesn't happen on the main home screen. Only the lockscreen
Anyone else having the same issue? Mine's an Exynos variant Note 9

Yes I have noticed It too, i wonder if there is somthing to do about it..

I've downloaded the Walloop Engine app from the Play Store, which gives you the ability to set the live wallpaper as your homescreen/lockscreen wallpaper. For some reason, lockscreen notification drawer doesn't lag if you set a live wallpaper. I have no idea how Samsung managed to produce such a silly bug with static wallpapers.

I also have found that if you set your screen display to WQHD the animation on the lock screen will be laggy and will stutter and even sometimes on the home screen itself and if you put the screen display on FHD+ the animation will run smooth.
Check it out and tell me If the same problem happen to you too.

I notice this issue only on lockscreen, but yeah, it happens only on WQHD resolution and only with static wallpapers. Infinity wallpapers and live wallpapers are not causing any issues, regardless of resolution. So, to sum up:
HD/FHD resolution: no lag, we can use any wallpaper
WQHD resolution: notification drawer lags with static wallpapers, but doesn't lag with infinity/live wallpapers

[Q] N1 live wallpaper effects

I just have a quick question and would make me feel better about my phone .....when you have a live wallpaper running is it slowing down your app drawer such as making it choppy scrolling rather then when you have a normal wallpaper its smoothe as hell.....is there anything to fix it to were you have a live wallpaper and its smoothe?
What you're experiencing is normal.
Some Live Walls lag more than others, too, just depends on what it is and how it was designed.
cool, makes me feel better i wish it wasnt like that cause i love how launcher pro is so smooth with the 3d app drawer and no live wallpaper its so smoother, but would love live wallpaper and same smootheness

Yes this happens to me too, its always been this way. A live wallpaper makes my home screen scrolling and app drawer choppy. This is with launcher pro and stock launcher. It's not a huge effect, but definitely not as smooth. With no live wallpaper the scrolling is smooth as butter even better my ipod touch 3rd gen.

[Q] Low-res (bad quality) lockscreen wallpaper -- How to change it?

As you guys might have noticed, whenever you set a wallpaper using the default android gallery, it kinda compresses it and results in a low quality version of the pic as your wallpaper. I've found a workaround for this by using apps from the market to set my wallpaper with BUT all of those apps can only change my homescreen wallpaper and NOT the lockscreen wallpaper.
So my question is if any of you guys can tell me how to manually change my lockscreen wallpaper? I have a rooted device 2.3.5 btw. Thanks.
Menu-setting-display-screen display-lockscreen-wallpaper
No, I know how to change the lockscreen wallpaper. But like I've said, when you use that way, it lowers the quality of the picture you use. If I use a hi-def photo and set it as my lockscreen wallpaper, the quality loss is very obvious. Which is why I was asking if there was a workaround for this.
When you're about to change the wallpaper and the square box pops up, tap it and expand it.

no, that's not it either. regardless of how you crop it, if you use the default gallery app, the resulting wallpaper is compressed thus the quality loss
get a suitable hd wallpaper from the internet then save picture to gallery. When you set wallpaper to lockscreen choose gallery, find pic you have d/l and crop it accordingly. Remember to get the highest resolution wallpaper.
Hope the above helps

+1 to the question!!!
I wanna use the same wallpaper on the lockscreen & on the my launcher. I choose the picture, set it up as my wallpaper - in the laucher it's absolutely ok, but in the locksreen there are a lot of strange lines (bright & dark) over the wallpaper.
you need a wallpaper of atleast 1600*1000 resolution. If you can find one with an even higher resolution, better still.
Just follow instructions of my earlier post

Of course I have a high-res wallpaper!
But the quality is much worse on the lockscreen than on the launcher's homescreen.
Maybe light wallpapers are ok, but the dark (like mine) is laggy.
anyone knows where the default wallpapers are saved to? cant seem to find the default lock screen wallpaper (of the pen and notebook)...
low resolution for a purpose
do you think the lock screen uses a lower resolution for a reason. that screen basically is displayed for just a few seconds and kinda floats on top of an already high resolution main screen. just a theory that it's supposed to be lower quality graphic.
You can use Quickpic which is free on the market to set the lockscreen. I don't see any reduction of resolution.

again guys, the issue is not with the cropping or with the image quality i'm using. it's with android gallery app compressing the picture i want to use.
@holgalee
thanks, that was exactly what i was looking for!
How about WidgetLocker? A guy posted a screenshot of his completely black background that didn't have any of the ugliness many are reporting of. But it costs money, and i don't know how you feel about apps that cost money, but you're holding a device that cost almost $1000
same problem here.
tried to have a black background on the lockscreen.
tried with a 1200x1600 bmp, png and jpg...
always the same ugly green and black stripes
none of that with galaxy s1 and s2, just with the galaxy note
what can i do to have full black background? dont want to use crappy alternative lockscreen, want to use the native android lockscreen
It won't help with a 5500x3500 wallpaper as long as the default gallery app is compressing the image. It will still look like ****.

I had the same issue on my S2; completely stupid really. Now I have my lockscreen wallpaper automatically change when I modify my [active] wallpaper.
The Gallery app needs to be fixed.
It's still crap on the note 2, anyone who's found a solution?
If it is the black clipping problem? Note shows lockscreen wallpaper a bit darker than normal wallpaper so theres possibility you only notice it on lockscreen.
Found one that looks okay so i am using that

[Q] Live Wallpaper FPS faster when scrolling?

Hey Guys,
I've recently installed Go Weather (in particular Go Weather Animated Wallpaped (HD and normal)) which I absolutely adore. But there's this weird thing going on.
Whenever I transition between the homescreen and anything else the live wallpaper shows a smooth running FPS, but as soon as the homescreen settles (the transition to the homescreen ends) the live wallpaper drops in FPS and gets visibly laggy. The weird thing is if i transition between homescreens/panels (which is still smooth) the FPS of the live wallpaper speeds up again, and when it hits the next screen/panel it drops down again?? Shouldn't it be the other way around?? Any help is much appreciated!
P.S. Problem persist after clearing cache/rebooting, closing all apps, using different launchers etc.

Wallpaper lag coming from lockscreen?

Hi,
When unlocking the device there's like 1 sec lag between when the icons appear and when the wallpaper appears.
It's nothing major but it happens on every launcher (also on stock), it's just annoying to unlock - see the icons on the home screen - see like a short flash where the wallpaper appears.
Does anyone else xperia the same?

It's apparently not the case for all wallpapers, I'm currently using a LWP called "Neon Microcosm" and there is no loading lag after unlocking

I got same experience on XZ2 but it s not 1 sec for me it looks Fade-in animation for me
it s because of system UI (so different launcher doesn't effect wallpaper loads in system framework)
If you think this is not normal and unusual delay you can Repair firmware by PC companion
:good:

I have a dark wallpaper too, but I'd really not want to use a completely black one
I have the same here. Very annoying.
I'm also getting the same. Not always though. I think it happens when you wake up the phone from deep sleep.
Does the size of wallpaper affect on the delay? I want to use wallpaper from note 4 and it is 2k resolution. will it consume more battery or have delay?
This is also happening on the bigger Z3.
Any fix?
---------- Post added at 01:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 AM ----------
Found a hack. I just put an all black lockscreen wallpaper so when i unlock, the home screen wallpaper fades in like it used to. Looks cool.
Mine doesn't have this problem.
I've got the same little problem on my Z3. What I noticed is not only the wallpaper lags a bit also the three buttons at the bottom (they replace the camera icon on the lockscreen). It happens when I use the Xperia wallpapers. I'm using plain black wallpaper now and everything seems to be ok.
Wallpaper lags because Sony's power management kills wallpaper apps when the screen is off.
Bring up the wallpaper app (mine is 500 firepaper) in running processes then turn off the screen, wait a minute, turn back on and unlock. The wallpaper app will show not active for several seconds after the unlock.
So there is no solution for that?
For me happens only when I replace Xperia themes with an image for lock screen

Lockscreen wallpapaer rendering

Hi All, i want to explain my "problem". I use Nova launcher every day and when i want to set same wallpaper for lockscreen and home screen i need to do it with the gallery because the oneplus wallpaper picker can' t be used. Now if you see in my screenshot the wallpaper in lockscreen seems like it has some imperfection in color and resolution, but in nova home is perfect ! There is a solution? Now with this wallpaper the problem isn' t really evident but with lighter wallpapers the result is horrible... Hope in a solution
If I understood correctly, I have the same problem with Nova Launcher: it seems the wallpaper gets scaled once you set it, no matter if it matches your screen resolution or not, generating artifacts.
