Hey guys. I'm on the unbranded, unlocked Snapdragon Note 9 on Metro. I am constantly having high amounts of battery drain from the PHONE app. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solution?
What's under additional info on that screenshot? Is it built in samsung phone app?
Wait... these things have a PHONE in them?! You mean like actually TALKING to another human being?

I have not had a problem with the phone app using a large amount of battery. Is is the native phone app that comes with the phone or an alternate? I personally turn off the stock app with package disabler and use a modded pixel phone app which I like a lot more. Have you tried the standards of wiping the cache, etc.?

By the looks of it, no. I'm also in NYC, although on Tmobile (which runs Metro PCS). You didn't mention a couple things. You said you are unbranded, is that how the phone came or did you manually install the unbranded firmware. Did you buy the phone new, in box? Is your phone app perhaps spending its time looking for something that your phone does not have installed (if you manually flashed a different firmware)? What sort of location features do you have enabled in the phone app itself? Have you had this issue since the beginning, if not, how long. Can you relate it to anything that happened or anything you may have done? I am honestly just guessing here and trying to maybe steer the conversation to a culprit, I've never had this issue.

Samsung + notified me of this behavior on two occasions and it hasn't happened again since I created this thread. I use the stock Samsung phone app. I honestly don't know what caused it but I'm happy it's not still going on

Bad Kernel? Bad Radio? What?
I've used quite a few different ROMs. (Enom, Kang [CM], MIUI, and most recently, Rodriguezstyle's miui.)
But, the problem keeps happening, despite wiping between each ROM.
is it the radio? or the kernel? I think it might be, but I'm fairly certain I have the right kernel...and I upgraded my radio when I went to Froyo...
Gah.
I dunno about the kernel, but from what I've heard, if you have the wrong radio your n1 will be bricked. So I guess it's not the radio.
It's not a problem, I've been living with it. It's just rather annoying...
Maybe it's an app I have installed? Or things aren't...done right? Augh idk.
Change the Kernel and that will fix it, pershoot's worked the best for me.
Do you have to pull the battery when it reboots?

No. I will be chilling on the phone, and then I will randomly see the boot image.
if your nexus is still less than a year old, get a new replacement device
watch the logcat output (adb logcat), and also kernel messages http://bootloader.wikidot.com/linux:android:kmsg

Not that I'm aware of. I don't even have setcpu installed anymore.
So unless the roms themselves overclock, then no. I upgraded my
kernel, but it has done a random shut off once since then. But it's
not that often. Not as often as it was at least.
Do you have more than one battery to try? My phone locked up or randomly rebooted several times a day when I was using Cyanogen 6rc1, but it only did it with one battery and ran fine with the other. The problem went away after I updated CM though.
My theory is that my "bad" battery is damaged slightly enough that it conflicted with something particular in that rom (also happened with 3-4 different kernels). I don't know anything about batteries, but if that's accurate, I don't see why a battery couldn't be damaged enough to conflict with all roms.
It doesn't sound like your problem exactly, but might be one of the simpler things to try, especially if you have a spare or could borrow one or something.
Try to extract the SD-card and Power ON the phone without it. If the phone works
well in that condition, problem solved.
Something like this happens to me one time, all I do was to format the entire SD-card
in my iMac with the Disk Utility, filling all the space with zeros (0) for be sure all the
data was erased correctly. Then I make the partitions again, flash a ROM and all
is fine now.
Good luck!
I had the same problem. Phone would reboot during many tasks. This would happen with any ROM even stock. I sent the phone to htc and they changed the motherboard under warranty. I noticed it first started to happen with robo defense and then other apps such as YouTube or browsing the net. I wasn't able to use the phone while it was charging or it would reboot.

This is my suggestion as well. A friend of mine had this problem. There was a corrupt video on his sd card that caused the entire issue.
I bought a brand new Note 4 from my local T-Mobile store. I rooted it, and only added Wanam Xposed.
I used Wanam to hide my root status so that I could use T-Mobiles softcard payment app.
I wanted to sleep for an hour, and I shut off my phone. When I woke up, I turned on my phone, and it got stuck on the white T-Mobile screen.
I could not get by it. I pulled the battery, etc, and it only would boot to the white t-mobile screen,
I was able to restore the phone to original with Samsungs online restoration program.
Here is my concern. Do I have a defective phone? I think I can still return it. (They may charge me $50.00)
The phone works now, but im just worried that I might have a bad one? Could it be defective? or did I cause the freeze by installing Wanam? or something else I did?
I would appreciate your comments and advise since there are many people on xda with much more experience and technical knowledge about this than I have.
Thanks in advance!

No need to return the phone, as you were able to restore it. The freeze was likely caused by something you installed that didn't play nicely with another app/program. Fresh install and make sure to pay close attention to what you're putting on your phone, and what settings w/i Wanam may or may not bork something else. Enjoy!

Lol Wanam is now updated to work with 5.0. so really, what's a couple more weeks to wait. Don't want to go thru the hassle of downloading the whole update and Odin back to stock. Rather just let it drop via OTA. Honestly my first phone since the Evo I have not rooted yet. It's crazy because once I do. I know it'll be like having a new phone. Can't wait bud!
In the last few days I've noticed that when turning on my screen that I'm forced to put in my PIN, which it says it always does after a reboot/startup. But I didn't reboot the phone myself.
Has anyone else noticed this? I wonder if this has anything to do with the Contacts app issue for int'l XP phones using a T-Mobile SIM card, or something else? It may just be that an app I have was malfunctioning (I did have issues with Chrome earlier right before this new auto reboot occurred), and that's what may have caused it.
Please let me know what you think. Also, PLEASE mention in your post which carrier you have, and also which region you got your phone from. For example, my int'l XP is from Hong Kong, so on the box there's a "ZH", which I guess is the Hong Kong version. You may also have an "HK" too. The Taiwan one says "TW" I believe.
Thanks!
Haven't experienced this issue. I'm using an x performance f8132 hk version.
I just experienced this for the first time yesterday. I updated Playstation Video, which now has the ability to download purchased content. I was downloading my movies to my SD card (35 of them) and the phone rebooted several times. It hasn't happened since. I'm on AT&T with a HK sourced device. I'm thinking this app update may have been causing my problem. I'll follow up in the next few days if I experience any other reboots.

Ok cool. Yeah you have the same one I do. It's marked "ZH & EN", but I believe ZH is still the Hong Kong version.

Hey Augie,
Hmm ok. You might be right!
I thought it was because I was using one of those apps that lets you enable "Night Vision" for easier nighttime reading. Some kind of issue with the "screen overlay". So I disabled "screen overlay" for that app and SO FAR it's been fine. You wouldn't happen to have an app like that would you (i.e. Blue Light Filter For Eye Care, Lux, etc)??
I didn't use Playstation app. Just disabled it actually, so I don't know if your problem and mine was the same? Mine would just reboot randomly, never repeatedly over and over at the same time.
Yeah mine is from Hong Kong too. Says ZH on the side, but I believe someone on here said that's still China.
Yes please do. I will too on Monday.
Thanks!!
No screen overlays here. I've used the phone for all kinds of things today without replicating the problem. I'm guessing a certain amount of non-response time from something running triggers a reset. I'll report if it reoccurs.

Augie,
Ok. That's good. I had also cleared not all the caches for all my apps but the "preferences", which is a setting in Apps menu in Settings. Then I rebooted. Not sure if that helped but I think for me it was the Screen Overlay issue. But it COULD'VE also been Playstation for all I know? Then again, this had been happening for last 3-5 days, so if Playstation app update just came in yesterday, then I doubt it was that.
Thanks! Please do. I will too on Monday.
I have not experienced random reboots yet. They could happen from battery saving apps like 360 though

I uninstalled 360 from my phone several days ago as even though it worked on the Z5 and Z3 (and initially it SEEMED to work on my 1st XP), I can see it no longer is working on the XP, so it's not that.
Since clearing all the preferences on all the apps and also disabling the screen overlay on my one "night vision" app, the problem has so far not reoccurred any more (knock on wood!). I am trying out a different app very similar to 360 though on my phone called Hibernation Manager. I'm going to test it tonight/overnight to see how it does, and will report here tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath, but can't hurt to try it. Earlier today I gave it a good 2 hours and the percentage stayed the same during that time (100%), so there's potential I guess.
Update: Forget what I said above. See this updated post instead.

Negative on the using while charging. Sometimes I jump in and out of apps and it gets super hot out of the blue. But after I posted the question I did a power cycle and it been ok ever since. That's why I was asking if there was an app I cod use to find what's causing the issue.

I don't have any heating issues, the most heat I felt during playing Fortnite but that wasn't hot just kind of warm. Usually the phone does not even get lukewarm at all even during most games. I have the Exynos variant. Maybe a factory reset could solve the warming issue, but before try the Accubattery app, that might tell you what causing the issue because probably one app is draining the battery.

Have you flashed the phone since you got it?
Seems odd that, that many things would fail all at once without the phone completely going kaput.
Though, if I had to guess, I'd say one of the layers of the phone became disconnected if it's not software related.

Loose connections internally could be the issue, though there'd need to be a couple of them in order for that many things to fail.
Either way, sounds like an RMA would be the only way to fix it, and it shouldn't matter where you purchased it.
