Unlocked Note 8 No wifi calling, volte, or advanced messaging - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I've already read a bunch of forums on this and finally got into the ims settings but they all say "false" Is there any way with or without root to enable the settings. If I do have to root it, what do I do after to activate these features? The phone has the T-Mobile boot animation and receives T-Mobile software updates. I'm using it on MetroPCS. If I switched to T-Mobile would the features work then? My last phone was a locked T-Mobile S8 and that worked fine on MetroPCS with all the features. Thank you.

When using T-mobile firmware with tmo service everything will say true. If you look in software info it should say tmb/tmb/tmb.

I'm guessing the phone started on AT&T firmware, and was not correctly moved to TMB. XAA means U1 fw (att + tmb are U). You're using Frankenstein software, suppose that's part of the problem. If you flash the Tmobile fw with your SIM inserted it should fix that.

This was originally an ATT device. That's what the 3rd CSC Code tells you. It can't be changed, but it also doesn't affect anything.
My guess is someone flashed this to the N960U1 firmware, and then just flashed the T-Mobile CSC file. Probably to get back RCS texting or Video calling. But it left you with Frankenstein firmware.
Just flash a full T-Mobile firmware through ODIN. Use the CSC_OYN file, not the HOME_CSC file. Flash all five files. It will force a factory reset, but should get you back on the full T-Mobile firmware.
If it goes right, you'll end up with TMB/TMB/ATT. which is what I also have.

I've got it too. For some reason the drop down menu has changed to an uglier shade of yellow green, the colour of frog excrement.. Otherwise don't really notice significant changes. Samsung has layered the ui so much that it just looks like.. Well Samsung. Not very evident it's lollipop tbh
If anyone is manually flashing the ROM using ODIN, check your CSC beforehand. There are two different regions of NZ that Samsung released the update for, which are TNZ and NZC. If you flash the wrong CSC version, your CSC will turn to an unknown state meaning that you won't be receiving OTA updates in the future. I have the Taiwan version (BRI) and I flashed the NZC version and now the CSC state is unknown. It's still Lollipop, but you will have to manually flash every updates released from this point forward.

It must be how Samsung programmed its CSC for the ROM. When the official ROM comes out for your region, you can restore using Kies 3 or Smart Switch. Then, you will get OTA updates as usual like you did before.

weird, I flashed NZC (formerly had BRI) and mine was still BRI. I did some benchmarking and I guess it was a little "dirty" and was getting really low results. So I just went into recovery wiped data and cache. Now my device claims to be NZC and works flawlessly. Best of luck

Unresponsive touchscreen after Lollipop
Hi there guys,
After updating my Galaxy Note 4 n910U to Lollipop via OTA, the touchscreen just became unresponsive. The update went on smoothly and my phone booted fine and it's on Lollipop now. I can navigate normally using the screen through the S-Pen but it just would not respond to touch. Very frustrating. New device, been waiting for this update and this happens. Please help.
Thanks!

You could try factory reset in recovery followed by a cache wipe and a repeat factory reset. Flash the NZC firmware again. After flashing again go to recovery and do a factory reset followed by a cache wipe and another factory reset. Boot and check if you are able to still see the csc in unknown status.
thx for the tip,
I'll probably wait for the HK version of Lollipop and then go back to the original csc

Bro, you realise you responded to an old old thread? 5.1.1 is next U variant update, not yet arrived

7.0 is now available for the T-Mobile version.

Just wondering how much longer AT&T will have to wait. So far I love the new ui and performance improvements.
Sweet! Downloading now!
Knowing ATT it will be a while before they release it. The real question is when will the U nougat come out!?

Would be interesting to know which files are different between the released T-Mobile and leaked AT&T to get a sense of whether there are more system files being shaken out in QA or whether it's the AT&T bloatware mucking things up in getting the release out.

What version of ODIN did you use, and what FW were you on before? I was on the unreleased AT&T 7.0 and I can't seem to flash anything at all now except for AT&T FWs.
I have tried Tmobile APK1, Verizon PI3 and U PL4. Odin versions below 3.12.3 cause the phone to say "Odin Protocol Error" and 3.12.3 says <ID:0/007> FAIL! SHA256 is invalid on every FW.

Galaxy Note 9 Japan Model SC-01L

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Note 9 from Japan, model SC-01L from DOCOMO carrier (unlocked).
I need to know if I can flash another stock firmware on this device from another country.
For ex. flash any ROM of the SM-N960U from US.
Well, its a model based on the Snapdragon. Any problem or observation about the modem or bootloader?
Could someone help me?

Wow what a strange phone indeed:
https://whatismyphone.com/vendors/docomo/galaxy-note-9-sc-01l
its a snapdragon. SO no idea if its anything like the n9600 or the american n960u
in both cases, i dont think you will be able to simply flash with odin any other csc firmware.
if you can root it(if it is like the n9600) then you could probably get the csc file on there manually. thats whay i do with my korean N960n , i put canadian carrier files on it manualy.
anyways good luck! (you'll be needing it..lol)

No, it doesn't work.
I've tried to flash US unbranded N960U1 (XAA) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) using modded/patched Odin and It will just fail.
However, I did manage to flash SCV40 (AU KDDI) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) without any issues. It's less bloatware compared to Docomo's Firmware maybe?
No issues with the modem, can make calls and SMS. APN auto-detected and able to use NFC.
Hope this helps!

File Request - N960U1UEU1CSB3 (VZW)

Hey guys, does anyone have a copy of this file that they can share? I flashed to the SM-N960U1 pie update last night and lost VoLTE and WiFi calling on Verizon. I'm a little rusty with Samsung's (been a few years) so I guess I made a rookie mistake.
If I'm not mistaken, I really only need the CSC file but this is the only place I've been able to find the software that references Verizon directly:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note9/SM-N960U1/VZW/download/N960U1UEU1CSB3/260802/
I'm trying to download it now but so far it's been running over and hour and its stuck at only 31.58 MB of nearly 4GB.
If someone has this file and could share it, I'd much appreciate. Or if I'm downloading the wrong file, please point me in the right direction. I need Verizon fully working on Android 9 with the SM-N960U1 firmware. Thanks!

try to use samfirm tool 0.3.6 to dl it. no idea if the version of the firmware you want would be available but just flashing the home_csc.md5 of any recent pie version of a U firmware shouldn't matter.
also since you want a csc that is on a different firmware( ure on U1 but ure desired csc is U) phone model, ull have to probably flash it using the patched B version of odin 3.13.x

I was finally able to download the firmware from sammobile and it turns out that it didn't help me at all. It seemingly made no change to my software.
Since it's nearly midnight on Sunday and I have to work tomorrow (I get no signal at work - wifi only) I decided to flash a CSC from an old 8.1 Verizon odin file I had saved to my PC. Wifi calling is back and none of the Verizon bloatware!! I'm glad that worked or I'd have been switching to the backup phone.

I think I'm on the latest official Verizon firmware now. Try this one:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960U/VZW/download/N960USQS1CSD1/266832/
I can't get native video calling working on Verizon. And for some reason Wifi calling is super buggy. Texting always works but calls go straight to VM. If I try to call out, it tells me to enable WiFi calling. I go to the settings, turn it on and I can call out. Go back to settings after the call and its turned back off again so new calls go straight to VM.

Convert Korean S10 to International

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S10 Exynos (SM-G973N), a Korean version. I am not in Korea and don't have Korean SIM so I can't use the phone (SIM card are not recognized).
I need some help to convert it to an international version, preferably an Android 11 version if possible. Current baseband is G973NKOU6FUF3.
Regards.
Hi, did you try to flash the firmware from your country/region? Just download the firmware with Frija if you are on Windows or samload if you are using Linux/Mac and flash with Odin. It's worth a try, cause the phone is basically the same of your country. Obviously since you are flashing a different region, you have to use CSC_OXM_XXXX and not the HOME_CSC_XXXXX. if it sounds confusing you can look at this topic here. Remember to use Smart Switch to backup all your files and apps.
Hi @Cobmaster, No I am actually worried about which firmware to download. The phone is originally from Korea. I don't want the Korean version, as it comes with apps and pre-loaded content in Korean. I would like a more global version. Can I use one from another country like the UK?
Thank you for your help. I used Frija to download the SKC and KOO firmwares.
Ps: For this model there are only Korean different Korean firmwares.
@koutei . I think you can safely download a UK or whatever you prefer, no problem at all.

It's weird. I need more info. Are you using a virtual machine? Which version of Windows? Are you using the stock cable?

No VM. Windows 10. No, I am not because it jiggles and disconnects the phone.
Hi, did you managed to accomplish this? I've searched for days and tried several methods to no avail. I'm starting to think that it is not achievable. If any expert would confirm this, I guess I will abandon the idea . Thanks in advance
I'm also searching did you succeed this convert?
I have G970N (s10e korea) want convert international G970F firmware.
Is it possible? Some people says yes some people said no.
Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S10 Exynos (SM-G973N), a Korean version. I am not in Korea and don't have Korean SIM so I can't use the phone (SIM card are not recognized).
I need some help to convert it to an international version, preferably an Android 11 version if possible. Current baseband is
G973NKSS7FUJ2
Could you help me
Thanks in advance

I found a reply from a user "billa" on another thread while searching for a way to flash a Global USA Note10+ from an AT&T carrier Note 10+ (Which was successfully done). Below was his/her reply. (I edited the first paragraph and included the modded Odin sourced from a YouTube video.)
You will need to use modded/patched Odin that has the model-ID and SHA hash check disabled, therefore allowing you to flash an unbranded "U1" firmware onto a branded "U" phone and vice versa.
As of now this works on most US Qualcom (QC) models, but an increasing number of international Exynos (EX) models now include a new RMM security which prevents this kind of cross-flashing unless you first disable the RMM, by flashing an RMM-Disabler package through TWRP.
Hope this helps!
