Galaxy Note 9 Japan Model SC-01L - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Note 9 from Japan, model SC-01L from DOCOMO carrier (unlocked).
I need to know if I can flash another stock firmware on this device from another country.
For ex. flash any ROM of the SM-N960U from US.
Well, its a model based on the Snapdragon. Any problem or observation about the modem or bootloader?
Could someone help me?
Cheers,

Ops, the image links.

Wow what a strange phone indeed:
https://whatismyphone.com/vendors/docomo/galaxy-note-9-sc-01l
its a snapdragon. SO no idea if its anything like the n9600 or the american n960u
in both cases, i dont think you will be able to simply flash with odin any other csc firmware.
if you can root it(if it is like the n9600) then you could probably get the csc file on there manually. thats whay i do with my korean N960n , i put canadian carrier files on it manualy.
anyways good luck! (you'll be needing it..lol)

No, it doesn't work.
I've tried to flash US unbranded N960U1 (XAA) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) using modded/patched Odin and It will just fail.
However, I did manage to flash SCV40 (AU KDDI) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) without any issues. It's less bloatware compared to Docomo's Firmware maybe?
No issues with the modem, can make calls and SMS. APN auto-detected and able to use NFC.
Hope this helps!

I didn't try to flash TWRP at that time and I've sold the phone long time ago. As there's no custom roms available for Japan Snapdragon variant.

If you cannot wait for the release of US version, you can go around by switch to German version T580XXU2APL4, the same build as US version.
It takes 2 hours to download from sammobile. Here is the one I flashed

It takes only over 2 minutes to flash, then update software via wifi. The download is about 800MB, only about 5 minutes
Then finally I have Nougat for SM-T580. It's very easy to flash back when US version is available. Note: the German version is official firmware
so the status of the software is official. This procedure is not recommended to whoever not familiar with flashing firmware via Odin
Tablets sold in Europe or Asia are the same one as in US, firmware and software only be customized for certain region. So there is no differences if you flash firmware
from different region to your tablet. You just need to select English as your choice of language.
It works!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter where you are, Samsung servers only recognize a tablet by product code, country code and build number.
You live in Asia with a tablet's Germany firmware, it still be able to update newest firmware. I live in US and don't have any problem
to update, after the moment I checked for update, it downloaded immediately .
This is a Germany build, and it only checks available updates for that firmware based on country code XXU

You can try a Factory Reset to see any differences.
I have two Note Pros , one updated to the newest firmware but the other won't update with the message newest firmware already installed.
I don't know what is causing this problem of the same two tablets.

Note 8 Exynos: do you have the 5 GHz option in the advanced hotspot configuration?

I posted the same question on the S8+ forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/s8-exynos-5-ghz-option-hotspot-t3675821
My Exynos S8+ SM-G955F doesn't offer this option for selection, only 2.4 GHz.
I suspect the 5 GHz option for hotspot is only available on the Snapdragon version...

I'm on the Korean Exynos N950N and I have it.
Actually both the posts were useful, so now I know that this option can be available both on Snapdragon and Exynos version.
It looks like that there is no limitation in the Exynos SOC itself, it's apparently a Samsung decision to show or hide this option in the regional firmwares.
Hi guys,
Just found this old thread while searching in Google for a similar question. I have the Note 8 too, Exynos version (SM-N950F) and, as seems by the previous post, Exynos also allows to broadcast the hotspot at 5.0 GHz, so it might be a firmware limitation.
Do you know if there is any specific ROM, CSC, tweak; anything that would give me that option to use the hotspot at 5.0 GHz? I have found this post by @phatWares mentioning a quite old tool by Wanam. Can anybody confirm this still would work? I ask because I'm fully on stock on my Note, so I'd like to have some assurance before tripping Know, flashing ROM, etc.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.
I had the same question and did some research.
It seems there is a new EU directive that restricts the use of 5ghz frequencies for mobile hotspots and this is why we are running into this issue (has to do with interference with police radars and such).
Logically one way to circumvent this limitation is to change CSC to a country that does not have such limitation.
I am outside the EU and I have a EU phone with British firmware and CSC, I have yet to find a proper CSC to switch to.

Thanks for your reply aljazzair. I'm also outside of the EU and US, but I think my phone is (SM-N950F) is an international unlocked version; I don't know what that is supposed to comply to.
Are you rooted? Have you tried the tool that I've mentioned in my previous post from Wanam? It seems to be a CSC Editor that allows you to enabled the 5.0 GHz option with a checkbox.

Hi,
My phone is not rooted. Like you, I have a SM-N950F (european unlocked).
.
I did change the CSC on my phone successfully once, it was a couple of weeks ago.
.
The reason was that I was on a TUR CSC due to an OTA update whilst in Turkey with a Turkish SIM on a TIM phone which had XFE firmware.
.
I was annoyed by the resulting samsung software notifications in Turkish, which is a language I do not understand, so I wanted them gone.
.
My CSC is now BTU/BTU/TIM.
.
The procedure I used involves using odin to flash what is called a "combination rom".
The combination rom essentially replaces the stock rom with samsung software used by samsung support engineering staff for diagnosis and repair.
.
It is critical to only flash a combination ROM that is compatible with your bootloader version.
.
I had the DSG1 stock ROM with the latest bootloader when I flashed the combination ROM, so the version I used is:
.
COMBINATION_FA71_N950FXXU7ASG1_CL12991683_QB24738638_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar.md5
.
There is a seemingly cumbersome procedure to follow involving Odin, several factory resets and reflashing multiple times, and it worked flawlessly for me.
It is described here:
.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74324845&postcount=87
.
I would re-use this procedure again without hesitation.
.
But I have yet to find a CSC code that would allow 5ghz hotspot capabilities (so non-EU) whilst retaining Samsung Pay and avoiding software notifications in a language I do not understand
.
If you know of such a CSC code, pls share
Perhaps somebody that tried that Wanam application to edit the CSC could confirm? That might be worth rooting for

Unlocked Note 8 No wifi calling, volte, or advanced messaging

I've already read a bunch of forums on this and finally got into the ims settings but they all say "false" Is there any way with or without root to enable the settings. If I do have to root it, what do I do after to activate these features? The phone has the T-Mobile boot animation and receives T-Mobile software updates. I'm using it on MetroPCS. If I switched to T-Mobile would the features work then? My last phone was a locked T-Mobile S8 and that worked fine on MetroPCS with all the features. Thank you.

I'm guessing the phone started on AT&T firmware, and was not correctly moved to TMB. XAA means U1 fw (att + tmb are U). You're using Frankenstein software, suppose that's part of the problem. If you flash the Tmobile fw with your SIM inserted it should fix that.

This was originally an ATT device. That's what the 3rd CSC Code tells you. It can't be changed, but it also doesn't affect anything.
My guess is someone flashed this to the N960U1 firmware, and then just flashed the T-Mobile CSC file. Probably to get back RCS texting or Video calling. But it left you with Frankenstein firmware.
Just flash a full T-Mobile firmware through ODIN. Use the CSC_OYN file, not the HOME_CSC file. Flash all five files. It will force a factory reset, but should get you back on the full T-Mobile firmware.
If it goes right, you'll end up with TMB/TMB/ATT. which is what I also have.

※ I'm sorry. I'm writing here to get information from various places. And the CSC transformation of S10 and S10 5G is similar, so I'm going to leave it.
Hello, I live in Korea.
The phone you use is Galaxy samsung galaxyS10 5G(SM-G977N)
But there's a problem.
I'd like to change the CSC.
The CSC currently in use is LUC.
I would like to change the CSC to KOO in Korea.
However, the firmware of the KOO model was put in AP,BL,CP,CSC,USERDATA and it does not change.
Is there any way?
Please give me a good answer.

Convert Korean S10 to International

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S10 Exynos (SM-G973N), a Korean version. I am not in Korea and don't have Korean SIM so I can't use the phone (SIM card are not recognized).
I need some help to convert it to an international version, preferably an Android 11 version if possible. Current baseband is G973NKOU6FUF3.
Regards.
Hi, did you try to flash the firmware from your country/region? Just download the firmware with Frija if you are on Windows or samload if you are using Linux/Mac and flash with Odin. It's worth a try, cause the phone is basically the same of your country. Obviously since you are flashing a different region, you have to use CSC_OXM_XXXX and not the HOME_CSC_XXXXX. if it sounds confusing you can look at this topic here. Remember to use Smart Switch to backup all your files and apps.
Hi @Cobmaster, No I am actually worried about which firmware to download. The phone is originally from Korea. I don't want the Korean version, as it comes with apps and pre-loaded content in Korean. I would like a more global version. Can I use one from another country like the UK?
Thank you for your help. I used Frija to download the SKC and KOO firmwares.
Ps: For this model there are only Korean different Korean firmwares.
@koutei . I think you can safely download a UK or whatever you prefer, no problem at all.

It's weird. I need more info. Are you using a virtual machine? Which version of Windows? Are you using the stock cable?

No VM. Windows 10. No, I am not because it jiggles and disconnects the phone.

I found a reply from a user "billa" on another thread while searching for a way to flash a Global USA Note10+ from an AT&T carrier Note 10+ (Which was successfully done). Below was his/her reply. (I edited the first paragraph and included the modded Odin sourced from a YouTube video.)
You will need to use modded/patched Odin that has the model-ID and SHA hash check disabled, therefore allowing you to flash an unbranded "U1" firmware onto a branded "U" phone and vice versa.
As of now this works on most US Qualcom (QC) models, but an increasing number of international Exynos (EX) models now include a new RMM security which prevents this kind of cross-flashing unless you first disable the RMM, by flashing an RMM-Disabler package through TWRP.
Hope this helps!
