Always booted the system normally to home screen, but not to recovery. Please help. How to get permanent twrp/ cwm recovery?

Unable to update to MIUI 9

Hello guys.
I've just tried to update to MIUI 9.0.1.0 NDDMIEI from MIUI 8.5.9.0 NDDMIED on device Xiaomi Mi Max 2 but it failed.
I have an unlocked bootloader and SuperSu installed, but the recovery is Mi Stock Recovery. :cyclops:
I had directly booted TWRP Recovery without flashing using
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
to flash SuperSu on device. :good:
Need support with this issue. I don't want to flash whole ROM every time I recieve an update.

i successfully flashed to miui v9(V9.0.1.0.NDDMIEI) over miui v8(V8.5.8.0.NDDMIED) without data wipe. all my data were intact
Keep a backup just in case
make sure you downloaded recovery flashable full rom package ~1.38GB (not the 500mb OTA update )
donot wipe data/cache/dalvik
flash via TWRP recovery
just flashing rom wont boot due to dm-verity. (result will be bootloop)
u need to flash super user or magisk (or lazy flasher "ive not tried though" ) which patches boot.img which makes rom bootable

I'll give it a try. Currently I have data wiped and installed full ROM through fastboot method. So next time, for sure I'll give it a shot.
But I have a doubt, where TWRP be able to flash an MIUI ROM. I mean the bootloader unlocked, encrypted system partition and all.
Since you have your device rooted, first install flashify, and backup your stock recovery. Then you can flash twrp recovery and install Miui 9, and root the device again. Last, install flashify again and restore your stock recovery.

Can you give stock recovery from mi max 2? I forgot to back up his original recovery stock and was hit with twrp.

Open Kirin custom ROM

Can I direct flash custom ROM from openkirinn without any modification in Honor 9 lite? Or any modification needed?
You cannot flash any custom rom without a custom recovery like twrp.
The stock recovery is only good for wiping cache and factory resetting, useless otherwise.
So u need to install twrp or any other recovery so that means you need to make modifications including unlocking bootloader or rooting.

Mi8 Doesn't Boot

I have installed TWRP and then wipe everything(including Internal Storage accidentally). I installed xiaomi.eu stable rom and phone stuck at MI android screen. Then try xiaomi.eu beta rom it is same.
What should I do?
If you have unlocked BL use mi flash to flash stock rom
Flash stock rom using miflash 2018 (portable) since your bootloader is unlocked, make sure you choose clean all, DON'T choose clean all and lock at the bottom of miflash screen before you flash the rom, other wise your device will be bricked.

Thanks, it worked, I solved it by installing rom with fastboot and I know why TWRP doesn't work. Because of encryption. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389

Stuck at MI Logo...

Hello all,
so i have an strange issue here. after installing magisk canary yesterday evening, i ended up in a bootloop.
so i stayed pretty cool and went to twrp, used magisk uninstaller and thought hmm okay ****, still not booting, not even shows the boot animation now.
stuck at the MI logo, flicks one time, and then stuck again.
so trying to reflash magisk then with 20.4, but nothing changed.
i ended up doing a full wipe, downloading the latest v12 vendor global and reflashed the rom.
booted up all fine. set it all up again, did a random restart, without doing stuff.
boot animation....10 minutes..
restarted stuck at mi logo again.
not even the system is trying to get up.
now i can wipe verything, vendor, data, system, dalvik, whatsoever, i wiped everything, flashed vendor again, installed rom.
nothing... stuck at the MI logo.
any ideas?
many thanks
If you're flashing recovery ROM i suggest you use fastboot ROM

From stock MIUI.
Install TWRP
Boot into TWRP
Do a factory reset
Format data - Format not wipe, need to type yes to confirm
Reboot to recovery (TWRP)
Flash custom ROM
Flash GApps if needed/wanted
Boot into the ROM
Everything should be good
Flash Magisk if required
Do not wipe any other partitions in TWRP, the factory reset is enough.
Make sure you format data in TWRP - don't miss this step out.
If you're doing this immediately after flashing MIUI, you must boot into MIUI once to finalise the installation.
Yes format data not wipe.
when i flash custom rom, even i am not on miui i first format data with yes in twrp then reboot to twrp. I put rom and gapps to internal memory, and install rom and gapps. and when finish reboot to system, when phone restart it stack at mi logo, so i have to go back to twrp and do again format data with typing yes, and then reboot to system and it works. so no wipe data, format data with typing yes.
oh and i thought, wipe is the same as format.... :/
works like charm. booted up successfully evo x with vendor 12 global.

Flash Vendor
Flash custom ROM
Boot into the ROM

thanks all !

If you want to change to a different ROM, or if you want to update Evo x, then the safest way is to remove lockscreen security before flashing. This will remove encryption, which will allow you to clean flash a new ROM, or dirty flash an update, without any issues caused by encryption.
Once your done, add the lockscreen security back.
