hello,
i've tied many roms based on android pie - all of them looks great, but get laggy. especially at facebook and fb messenger. reaction after a screen touch can be like 2-4 sec. later the touch, on ram usage in developer option i get like only 200-250 mb free.
is there any 9.0-rom that can run smoothly on 2/16 version of 4x?
or maybe there is a way to 'make roms lighter'?
any tips from 2/6 users?

Try syberia os or bootleggers os
Sent from my Redmi 4X using XDA Labs
syberia was the one of tested roms. fb and messenger were too laggy.
Facebook and Messenger are laggy by definition. I have Messenger Lite and use Facebook in the browser. If you're lucky you might even have the access to the progressive web app version. Much more secure
Anyway my Redmi 4X got second life with Syberia OS and I'm using it for gaming only.

In my opinion Facebook and Messenger are laggy.
Although i no longer use facebook but i never had facebook running smoothly on my Redmi 4X with any OS.
However on some rom it was little smooth but currently do not know if Facebook and Messenger would work smoothly or at least with little lag. also while using both of apps device heat u to.
Little not regarding Redmi 4X. in past i've tried using it on Redmi note 3 3GB/32GB variant and Redmi note 4X 4GB/64GB it still the same story.
Do not know about the performance devices with flagship snapdragon processors, if it is laggy there then its facebook issue maybe we can not do anything about it unless facebook fixes.
thanks for reply.
miui 10 (xiaomi.eu form Miui Polska, based od android 7) is my daily driver and fb and messenger works more fluently than on any pie-rom :|
so i think, that i should buy a new phone if i want to have andoid 9 on my device...

No, you don't have to buy new phone to use Android Pie there are several Official/unofficial ROMs available but if you are looking for good or better hardware with Pie then you should consider or else I don't think so there's need of buying a new phone(except if there's any hardware issue in your device)
Android Pie ROMs for Redmi 4X(santoni) are pretty much good and development is going great with updates.
Facebook app I am using since I got my first Android phone and till now it never worked fluidly however sometimes I do got some minor improvement here and there but not great at all.
I have seen several others also facing lag on this two apps. On my device this two apps combine used to take around 1.5 Gigabyte of storage which is more considering i have 2GB/16GB device.
Maybe Facebook and messager are storage, cpu, resource hungry apps and that's what causing issue.
I am very much sceptical about Facebook after security breach.
One notable thing is that on Android Pie the lag is on Facebook and messager and not on other apps. I have tried Facebook after seeing your post and yes Facebook still do lags and device gets warm.
Other than that it's your choice to buy new device or not.
Try Bliss rom by Tio Burla, is the best!

Hi,
I'm deciding beetwen nexus 5 and xiaomi mi 3. Xiaomi has much better camera and battery and 64 gig storage option.
But I can't stand using MIUI.
How stable are CM and Slimkat on mi3 ? Same as official ROM ? No battery drain or lags ? I can't find how they were even possible to make without kernel sources and what Cancro is.
Leaked AOSP is better than custom ROMs ? Performance and stability wise od course.
Thanks !

hey, CM and other custom roms are still in beta stages. There are quite a few bugs major one being random reboots. But there is a leaked AOSP which i am using currently and is pretty solid & stable. I am coming from Nexus 4 & feel the development is pretty slow due to non availability of kernel sources & not many devs use this devices due to known reasons. Still the devs are doing a fantastic jobs with what's available. I personally recommend u to get an Nexus 5 if you have the budget because it is most dev friendly devices offering endless customizations & very very very long support. :good:
Thanks, there is no price difference for me, in fact 64 GB Xiaomi is 20 percent more expensive.
Random reboots here we meet again... Thats why I rejected buying LG G2.

Go with the Nexus 5. We do not know when (if) MI3 sources are gonna be released to the public and MIUI sucks big time. I am seriously thinking of selling the MI3 because I can't stand MIUI anymore. Lots and lots of bugs and no one does anything to solve them. When I bought the phone, my competitors were N5, MI3 and G2. I regret choosing the MI3.
I would say the exact same thing than reneftw.
I've bought the Xiaomi MI3 on a friend suggest after my old samsung GS2 tried to swim in a glass of water.
I've bought without loking to the rom ... miui is quite surprising to the first effect ... no google play (but the Mi Market) and a bunch of chinese application not translated
I miss my stable Cyanogen
I've tried the beta from Cancro but lot of app shutdown unexpectedly. Then the miui photo app is really nice considering the cyanogen one ...
So take the nexus 5 (I should have done this too :| ).
Go for the Nexus 5 if you want custom ROMs and overall awesome community support...
Go for the Mi3 if you are a gamer and do intensive stuff... The Mi3W (India) I have BLOWS away phones thrice it's price in terms of performance...but sadly, custom ROMs are scarce and buggy, AOSP leak is, well, stable, but too bland for me...As for MIUI, I started out apprehensive, but I've actually come to quite like it...if you like lotta customizability and a "hint" of iOS here and there...
This is by far the biggest surprise my Redmi 2 gave me:
This game shows the min requirements as 2GB RAM. But yeah I do know we could somehow manage with 1 GB. So, for a better performance I was using CM 13 and decided to start playing the game. But the game lagged a lot, battles were like impossible to be made. I even tried few other ROMS like Nexus, RR, Slim and Snapshot( this was a bit better). I wasn't satisfied but then I shifted to MIUI as I wanted to test the new MIUI 8. But when I started playing the game here, it stopped lagging :fingers-crossed: ( It seldom lags). I couldn't believe it. My friend asked me if its lagging on my phone while he was using RR. I told him the same and it surprised him the same way it did to me. Did anyone else notice this? Anyone with custom ROMS able to play lag-free?
i'm able. it's ok in the most of the time. but my redmi 2 is pro version.

custom roms....
Orion mm latest build (cam also good)
tipsy
and plus point in these custom roms ---u can use fake gps also...i used n tested...so i m saying...
I love the pure Android experience, but I also came back to MIUI (now MIUI 8 beta) because apps seems to lag less.
I'm playing Pokémon GO but my problem is with GPS, sometime it doesn't fix or stuck and I need to restart the game.
YOu can try on miui 7 i play on that
I installed Orion in my phone and performance on Pokémon GO is worse than with MIUI 7/8.
i'm currently playing in miui 8 latest update, and it seems fine, except when you are under the sun and charging the phone then the cpu throttles xD

This could really help. Btw, how about CM11 then? Have you tested on it?
Hello folks. I've been using Moto X Style for about a 1,5 year and I'm tired. Development is slowing down, the phone is really big (my previous one was LG L90). For some time I was looking for a nice, compact smartphone with good battery and decent price. Redmi 4X seems to fit my needs, but is it worth buying now? As far as I know the longer battery is kept unused, the worst condition it has - is 4X still being produced? How about development - how many LOS version may this phone get yet? How is battery life?
Or are there newer models which could fill my needs? 150mm height is too much for me; I like compact smartphones - otherwise I would get Lenovo P2 - that is a beast. Actually I tought that Sony Xperia XA2 would be nice, but that price...
What do you guys think?

Redmi 4x's android version range is 6-8 and thanks to treble we booted android p dev previews. About battery life my SoT records are: RR Luis build nougat 8hr 35min RR Luis build oreo 8h 12min android p dev preview 7h 3min
Project Treble seems promising. I wonder how long Android will keep compatibility with it. How about your opinions, then? Do you like this smartphone? Are you happy with it? Would you buy it again?

My previous phone was zenfone 6 (6 inch display x86 cpu) I was in your situation. It isnt even fit on pocket, lack of development, etc. Redmi 4x seems fine after 6 inch junk. 5 inch display, more custom rom support, Camera is amazing with gcam (miui default cam is fine too), 8 core cpu. Gaming performance is great and also it is cheap. Im definitely happy with redmi 4x

If u want to compact phone, santoni is best choice
Redmi 4X has several ROM's even project treble supported ROM's too.
Custom kernels available too.Development is quite good.
I think xiaomi less likely to make 5inch device in future too because as they are releasing newer devices in the range of 5.5 to 5.9 inches. For e.g. Redmi 6 has 5.5 inch display Maybe they produce 5 inch display phone with tight budget in future e.g. Redmi 4A.
I would say at least go for SD 625 device if there is any 5 inch device.
You've mentioned you might go for Lenovo P2 which has 5.5 inch display considering this Redmi 5 would be fine since it has 5.7 inch display and SD 450 and it's better than SD 435 and has same GPU as SD 625.
If there's any xiaomi store out there near by you live then try out newer xiaomi device yourself to get better decision on which device to get.
SD 435 is based on 28nm technology and now almost all new SD chipsets are based on 14nm or lower so it's better to get this devices.
With using only mobile data on Redmi 4X I do need to charge device in evening or night.
With mix usage it lasts 1½ days which translates roughly around 8 hours of sot. On MIUI 8 I used to get around 10hours of sot.
If you buy Redmi 4X now there's very chance that your phone will have white color notification LED.
Do let us know which one you buy
In the end I bought Redmi 4X since it was quite cheap. It fits nice in my hand. I'm not using it as daily yet, but "play" with it now.
Can you suggest me some nice custom roms (with as little bugs as possible)? Or maybe miui is the way to go (global or xiaomi.eu?). I just wish I could deactivate fingerprint scanner (I don't use it, but touching it with finger accidentaly wakes phone) and remove/disable some google apps. I heard root on miui is available on xiaomi.eu version.
First(I am sure you know it) get device's bootloader unlocked, it a quiet hectic process and will take few days.
The custom ROM's I'll recommend you are list below.
I have personally tried all of them and they are pretty good almost bugless, with good battery backup.
I haven't tried any custom kernel so can't say anything about them. If you wish you can try.
All of them are Oreo based.
1. Resurrection Remix OS.
2. DOT OS.
3. Nitrogen OS.
4. Havoc OS.
I recommend the new Xaiomi Mi A2 lite. It´s very handy too.

Any drawabacks on RR? I heard battery does not last as long on custom as on miui. How about camera and flashlight gestures? Can I set double click on power/volume button to trigger them? Or long click?
sorry doublepost
Of course no. Sd 435 is too old for q3 2k18. I think the minimum soc right now is sd636 (redmi note 5, and other phone with that soc). Iam currently using redmi 4x, but I'll trade this phone to a newer xiaomi (I dont have a lot of money, so i'll choose xiaomi)

I didn't faced any bugs since my usage was using social media apps, some photo editing apps, calls, camera (gcam) and playing PUBG mobile and clash royale.
I noticed the battery drain faster while playing pubgm in rr than miui so yes it does eat more battery when comparing it to miui. Using custom kernel you may get good battery life.
When using it on 4G LTE the battery was draining fast too and experienced device to go warm.
Yes, you can set camera button as far as I remember.
The last time i used rr was in last two weeks of April and early few days of May.
Last build was released in April and later there's no update made available yet.
I think we'll be looking at directly Android P based rr in next update.
To get latest security patch and Android P experience I moved to DOT OS and it's a good build and it also has all the customization that are available in rr and so does the havoc OS.
In my opinion all custom ROM's doesn't have battery backup like MIUI but it's not bad it's decent.
Flashlight gesture I don't know I didn't tried that but it should be available there.
Currently I am using MIUI 10 Global beta and battery backup is good I get SOT around 8 hours with mix usage but again when using 4G LTE it drops down to 4 or 5 hours of SOT.
Battery saver helps a little bit so it's turned on all the time.

10+ hours of SOT is just fantastic.
I(or rather we) used to had such SOT on MIUI 8.
I'll try this combinations soon in few days, currently on MIUI 10 Global beta 8.8.2.
Does firmware version matter?
Is there any way to fix the buggy/laggy sounds inside games? Are there workarounds or roms not affected by that problem?
Which game you are playing? Currently I just now switched to DOT OS 2.5 Oreo 8.1.
If you wish I can try particular game that you are having issue with because I did not have in game sound issue except for pubg mobile.
If you are having issue with pubg mobile then you are not alone it happens with me too.
I think It's a bug from their end and I hope they fix it soon in future update if it so.
Sometime the I can't even able to hear sound unless and until I restart the game.

DOT OS has good battery backup i get around 8 hours of SOT on my Redmi 4X.
on Mobile data( 4G ) it down to 4 or 5 hours of SOT which is quite normal.
while playing PUBG mobile device with WIFI do get warm but does not lags(or at least i have not yet experienced) with mobile data heat increases.
i don't know but i haven't got any rom that doesn't heat or give at least moderate warm except for MIUI 9 and 10 Global beta builds which i no longer use.
DOT OS has good customizations but HAVOC OS has taken that to next level. there are some features you'll find in HAVOC OS but not in DOT OS.
nevertheless both are great ROMs out there for Redmi 4X i've chosen DOT OS for one important reason that while on DOT OS my Redmi 4X heat up so much than regular, i did like the HAVOC OS and want to use it but both OREO and PIE builds giving same issue which keeping me away from it.

The device gets heat up even battery area too which is concerning for me.
I haven't rooted with DOT OS 2.5 currently because there's no need of root for now for me.
It should have work on DOT OS 2.5. Maybe try downloading latest stable or beta build again and flash again.

Xiaomi.eu lags but I want call recorder so I was on Cherish...having DS issues. Since 3 days on Octavi and very happy, no DS problems so far, aosp dialer with call recorder, and fast and bug free. Although the chipmunk voice bug in some games might be there but I don't care

I found that the stock rom was quite fast. That's why I can't understand why xiaomi.eu and miuimix lag so much. They are super slow at opening apps compared to stock.
I'm assuming that they are both deodexed and that will likely slow them down on a midrange SoC. That's the only reason I can think of. miuimix runs fine on my Mi 9T Pro that has a much better SoC.
I'm running Octavi OS now and it doesn't lag like xiaomi.eu and miuimix do.

i am not experiencing lagging , micro stutters maybe like on the animation
Some time ago i installed xiaomi.eu. I can agree that is much slower in openning apps. Stock rom was much faster. I had xiaomi.eu installed on Redmi Note 4X and 8T and it was better than stock but Note 10 Pro is slower with xiaomi.eu. Maybe dev's need some time to make this rom better. Now I'm on stock EAA rom rooted and it's perfect for me. Good battery life and speed. I haven't tested any non-miui rom
Using MI Globe rom which is same as xiaomi.eu, just with added options to exclude or include stuff before rom creation. Currently on 12.5.3 of this rom and no issues whatsoever. In fact I like it better than stock 12.5.1 rom because of these options.
Other non-MIUI roms do not have as good camera performance, which is main reason I dont use them.
