Samsung Pay issues on Pie - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I've looked all over but haven't seen anything yet, but is Samsung pay favorite card swipe up not working? Also when launching, it shows the old navigation icons at the bottom. So currently, I'm not able to quickly access my card to make a payment. As a cludgy workaround, I have it on my edge launcher and still have to click through to my card. Any other suggestions? It's also grayed out when using the fingerprint sensor to open.

The swipe up works just fine on mine. And yes it shows the old navbar.

Haven't tried it, but I just wanted to mention that I gave up on samsung pay. It's a memory hog and uses a ton of battery. I just use Google pay as the majority of the places I shop have tap and pay

Weird. I've been using Samsung Pay since the S7Edge. Never had any issues with it being a memory or battery hog, LOL. And Google Pay doesn't even compare to Samsung Pay.
I have no memory issues and 8-10 hours SOT with Samsung Pay activated. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I reactivated Samsung pay, we'll see if I notice a difference in battery life

Try opening Galaxy Apps store and then click on 3 dots in top right corner and pick May Apps --> Updates
Hopefully this will find new app updates including one for Samsung pay that will change old UI into new UI for pie version.

Thank you but I have these selected. My home screen just goes home when I see up. It's messing with gestures I suspect.

It's the latest. But it's definitely not a pie release as it still shows navigation buttons at the bottom. I'm apparently hooked on the new navigation that every time I use pay it it's sad to have to actually press the home button to leave.

So curious what you find. Samsung pay have me extra smug points when the cashier says they don't take apple pay.

I finally figured it out: I didn't have a favorite card selected. Now it shows up when I'm on my home screen and that home button swipe, since it's on the home screen, doesn't interfere since I'm already home and there little swipe up icon (see picture) for the card is finally there. But it only shows on the home screen and not the others.

Ate you using the stock Samsung launcher? Or a third party launcher. Because swipe up on homescren for Samsung Pay works perfectly on my phone. I'm on CSAA wirth gestures activated and no gesture hints.

THAT is the number one reasons I love Samsung Pay, LOL. It's best when I use my Gear SEE. "I've never seen someone get their watch to work here!"

I love getting the "we only accept XXX here". I look at the cashier and just tell them to push the credit card button and to watch, done it with both my phone and gear s3. They are always surprised and ask what it was that i was using since they've never seen that before. Even after all these years of surprising people with paying with my phone there's always someone who's in the dark about current technology it seems.

Same here. Probably not 'enabled' for the Note 7 yet.
ok cool, was hoping it just wasn't me

Used it for the first time this morning at the car wash. Worked perfectly.
When you say it isn't working, are you meaning you can log in and setup your Credit Card and such or that is doesn't work at the terminal?
I got everything setup last night but haven't tried to use it anywhere yet.
Go into samsung pay settings and turn simple pay on for the number of options there.
Same issue on my wife's.. mine works fine (Black) hers acts like the service isn't available (Coral Blue)
Even though she was using it on her Note 5...?
What color are you guys that are having this issue? I am wondering if there is something different by color.. I know it sounds weird, but there were differences between my wife's White Note 5 and my Gold Platinum Note 5..
I haven't tried to use it yet, but the app setup fine. I was able to add a bunch of cards as well.

Then yours is fine.. what we're talking about, is it doesn't even allow you to get to the setup. It acts like the app is "coming soon"
I have a black Note 7 and had the same message last night after receiving my phone. I figured that it was not ready for the note 7 yet, and slept on it. When I tried again this morning it allowed me to log in and set it up just fine. Not sure if this is why it worked the second time, but I restarted my phone this morning after all the installs and cleared the cache. Maybe that had something to do with it?
Been using it perfectly since I got the phone yesterday. Added 6 cards and 3 loyalty cards. Got the 20 dollar promo at best buy getting a screen protector last night.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
I just got off the phone with Samsung, was having the same issues, Added that card fine last night, went to try use it today and the card was gone and every time I tried to add it, it kept saying "cannot connect to samsung pay"
They had me open the application manager, force quit the samsung pay "samsung pay framework", clear its cache and then click on "samsung pay" force stop, clear its Cache and it Data.
That forced me to go through the setup again, but allowed me to add my card, and now it seems to be working.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
I didn't use it. However, I noticed an update for it within the Samsung pay app settings, under "about". It should be version 2.2.02. I'm not saying that's the cause, but might help.
i setup mines up last night ok. i added two of my cards. One i did the resend for the activation code 2 times. The other card did work never got one. Then this morning i deleted it and readded and the activation card got sent and work this time.
I remember on my s7 edge when i first got it. samsung pay didnt work. woulnt get pass finger print. Call samsung and they said to delete the samsung pay app data and cache.
Once i did that the s7 edge setup fast and easy.
Worth a shot if you guys n girls are still having problems.
Mine worked perfectly at Walgreens and I got a 20 dollar Samsung gift card

Samsung Pay working for me just like you see on commercials. I get the same reactions too.
I notice when I took off the locking on lock screen Google pay said it won't work due no lock on lock screen. May be this is same with Samsung Pay.
It stands that if you have stuff like Samsung Pay, Google Pay, etc in your device that you should lock your device too.

3rd day now and I still can't register the cards I had on my S7. Tried everything. I guess I'll call Samsung at some point today.

[Q] What is the draw with samsung pay?

I didn't want to clutter up the root thread asking but some people seem very bent on being able to keep samsung pay but why? Isn't it pretty much just google pay just from a different company? I never use things like this so I am not sure if you get some kind of bonus or something using it.

Samsung pay works anywhere (even terminals where apple pay &Android pay don't).
It's really cool when u pull your phone out and the cashier say w"we don't have that here" and it works.

Okay so it's no different from just cards with tap to pay chip in them. I can see why some people care then but I don't know root or being able to use my phone as my wallet is a toss up.

No it's different Samsung pay will work on a regular "dumb"terminal where others won't
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
I use to root every phone I had within moments of getting it. I liked Android Pay and on the Nexus 6 was not happy when on Marshmallow they took away Android Pay if the phone was rooted, however someone very smart figured out how to get around this. However on the S7 Edge root was not there right away and got to where I was using Samsung Pay a few times a week. I like being able to not have to pull out my wallet in stores and just tap my phone and pay. Since this works at I would say 85%+ plus of stores it because a standard that I expect to be able to do. Now that phones don't have to have root and custom roms to make them work good out of the box I would not trade having root to give up Samsung Pay.

And you my friend made the best reason to get it, where do I sign?
The only time it won't work is on magnetic card readers that has a manual switch that a physical card has to touch to activate the magnetic head.
Can you guys list where it has worked for you (besides walgreens) so I won't look stupid when the clerk says "I told you so!"?

Works damn near everywhere I tried, even on those old school terminals with the keypad. Since Samsung pay started, I've made about $200 dollars from promotions. New device promotions, being the first 100 to use any hour on a specific day, and referrals.
Places I used it at ......
7 Eleven
Rite Aid
Nike Town
Random corner grocery stores (most have the old school terminals).
Paid a contractor that had a plug in mag strip on his iPad. (I was surprised that worked)
Best Buy
MicroCenter
Apple Store
Random Super markets
Random clothing stores
and etc ....
So.. the few seconds it takes for you to pull out your phone, you pull out your wallet instead.
Talk about lazy first world problems

Actually Samsung Pay is faster. Loading your card into chip terminals takes longer to process. Sometimes you have to swipe first, then insert into chip reader. On mag strips only, sometimes my card or the mag strip reader itself doesn't read properly, I would have to swipe more than once. And also, using Samsung pay is more secure.

Talk about extra security.... paying either way with Samsung Pay is tokenized... so even if they some "dupe" the transaction, the information is useless... that's not lazy, that's just smart.... :highfive: :good:

Why pull out your wallet from your back pocket, use the other hand to take your card out from whatever slot it's on, hold your walllet with one hand while with the other had making sure you have the card facing correctly so you can swipe or insert it properly, then swipe your card or insert your card in the chip reader (hopefully you won't accidentally leave it if you're in a rush), then when done, open wallet, put card back in with the other hand, put wallet away, then grab your stuff.
When you can just take your phone out with one hand, wake up your phone, swipe up from bottom to launch Samsung pay, approve to use it with your finger print and put the phone next to the magnetic card swipe. When done just put your phone away all with 1 hand.
But if you feel it's all about the same then who cares whichever people use. Having options are always good in my book [emoji106]
Unless you happen to forget your wallet and you have only your phone, without Samsung pay then there's no option but to drive all the way back home. Lol

Any tips for using Samsung Pay at Walmart?

I just can't seem to get Samsung Pay to work with Walmart card readers. Think they have them rigged somehow to help push their Walmart pay service?
I've never got it to work at Walmart. I think it has something to do with their actual card readers not allowing it to work. Probably trying to push their own Walmart pay

Up at self checkout, I can only get one register to work. All the others get card read errors. The one that works, when it asks for my pin, I have to select "change payment method" and select Credit for it to go through. If someone is on this register, I'm screwed.
I had the same issue of it not work and I had left my wallet at home!
We tried for about 3 minutes and little did I know that at least 10 other people were in line behind me LOL
I told the lady at the register I would be back and for her to hold my things ( I never went back)
Always works with me. The cashiers have the shocked look on their faces every time. Lol
Works for me every time at both the self checkout and regular line.
Works fine for me. Used BOA and citi bank cards just fine.
Works for me at Walmart. The only store where I haven't been able to make it work is Lowe's.

It uses both. It uses NFC on tap to pay terminals and the magnetic spoofing on magnetic swipe terminals.
To the OP: I've only been able to use it once in Walmart. I've tried 10 times now at several different Walmarts and have never gotten it to work again, even on the same register where it worked before.

I think he was really meaning that disabling nfc doesn't hinder using Samsung pay.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
Actually it is my understanding that if you have NFC turned off, Samsung Pay will enable it temporarily for the payment and I have seen in settings where NFC goes on in my first Note because one time it failed to turn off after paying.
I have also read in several places that Samsung Pay automatically turns on NFC.

Where as this is true, it is not dependent upon nfc and they enable it to provide both possible options. It is not dependent on if there is a nfc device to tap so in this case if Walmart disables the nfc payment reader our Samsung devices won't care because it will use the mst instead.

Question about the Google Ast button.

I came from a samsung phone where you take the bixby button and make it do other things... is there any apps that can do that for the lg..
No, not until we get a bootloader unlock. Damned superficial feature, if you ask me. Whatever happened to assigning a long-press home button to activate the assistant?

This is incredibly sad that this (potentially) awesome phone is handcuffed by LG and making it less and less desirable every day ... not just for potentially new buyers, but for those of us who loved the V10 and V20's.
I've stopped that button from activating google assistant as it was only intrusive - but now I've a button that's a dead-button and I hate the "non-functionality" of something that could be quite useful for something else.
Can't wait for an unlocked bootloader! ! ! !

It's sad that LG has been my phone from the V10, V20 (here and Euro), and had a temp V35 till the V40 came out and loved them all ... EXCEPT ... this V40.
Too much wonky crap going on. Apps don't work well on it. SwiftKey, anything Cleeng (they suck as an App developer, even worse on V40), video's from iPhones, notification resets, doesn't fit well on any wireless charging cradle and the list goes on.
Samsung offering $550 plus a set of ear-buds (good ones) to trade in for the Galaxy S10. Sure it's going to be locked up like a bank vault, but that offer includes unlocked versions so I can switch carriers AND it doesn't come with bloatware.
It's a serious consideration for me.

It was a promotion from Samsung in my phone when I was surfing Reddit. I decided to reserve the phone and promotion. Costs me nothing till the phone is released and ready to ship.
I checked on the Samsung website and the offer is there, but you have to dig for it. It wasn't on the first or second page.

At least all third-party Apps worked on it and the basic tech of the phone worked when you made a change. For me it's more about the functionality ... I can adapt to the few idiosyncrasies of the Sammy line to get a phone that doesn't have the user "UNFRIENDLY" issues the V40 does. LOLOL

I guess with fingerprint it's much faster since I don't have to lift the phone up since my finger is on the scanner. I want to say it wasn't like that when I first got there pixel 4. I want to say an update shortly changed the behavior

Then it's just because of the level of security used for Gpay. I don't personally mind, my face unlock is lightning. I came from my Pixel 2 XL and the face unlock has been faster with a higher rate of success than the fingerprint scanner on my old Pixel.

For vending machines it's alright since it's face up but those flat terminals I have to tap, lift, verify, confirm and then re-tap. I know it's little but when I first got the phone it didn't have that extra confirmation since the phone was already unlocked.

Just got back from my local 7 eleven and I used my Gpay to see how mine behaved and paying using the actual Gpay app, I did not have to scan my face again. Also I completely forgot about the Gpay shortcut I have enabled and once unlocked, I can instantly bring up my credit/debit cards and pay from any screen or app by holding the power button. See my screenshot below.

How did you enable that?

It's been a while since I've tried with my Pixel 4 XL because I got a Wear OS device back in August. You could be right though.

I have a Fossil Gen 5 and I've tried enabling GP on the watch but it's annoying to me since it needs authorization. Every time I do anything on the watch I have to unlock it or GP won't work. How do you do it conveniently?

I have a gen 5 Carlyle too. What authorization are you talking about? Setting up a card for the watch takes several steps but once it's done, Google Pay is just a swipe and tap away for me. I turn on the screen (I keep "always-on screen" option on and tilt-to-wake off), swipe down, and tap the Pay icon. My default card pops up and I just put it close to the tap the pay area. Even quicker is putting Google Pay on a watchface but I don't use it enough to do that. I would rather have something like battery, weather, or Google Health info.

What happens to me is that I need to put on an authorization method on the watch. Either a pin or password and anytime I use the watch, even if it's not for GP, it asks for the pin code or pwd. Even if I go to check notifications I have to put in my pin. I don't use always on but I do use tilt to wake. You think I need to change that in order for it to be easier to use? I'm going to check Reddit now too see what they suggest or if anyone is having issues like I am.

Well that's annoying. I have a a screen lock too but it's supposed to be only automatic. So only when the watch is off my wrist does it ask for my pattern.

It's very annoying. I think one of the problems is that I use my metal watchband a lot and it's kind of loose on my wrist, purposely so. So it might think it's off my wrist when it slides around. Seems like others are having the same issue but I'll look into it further. I have always used my phone for GP anyway so it's not a huge deal but it would be cool to be able to use it.

It being loose most likely the issue. I have a metal band and although I don't work out with it, I keep it snug enough that it doesn't lock yet loose enough that it can slide a little.

That's what it is. I put on my black band and it seems to be staying unlocked now.

I used both those commands and the position of the power menu changed to the bottom but my cards don't show up at the top to rotate through. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google pay. I still have to do the 2nd confirmation in order to use Google pay.
