Windows?
Sadly on Linux it just works but on Windows you need to install adb drivers without driver signature verification
In the twrp thread should be a manual buried

Hi, I had that problem.
Try placing the commands to unlock BL in adb, press enter (waiting for device.)
Press VOL UP and connect the cable to your cell phone, the BL will unlock.
It worked for me

I do have my drivers updated and installed (no HTC Sync).
I have sdk-tools and everything as well.
here's what i noticed:
So when I have my phone at the bootloader plugged into my USB, it won't say fastboot unless I press the volume up or down keys and as soon as i do then it says "FASTBOOT USB".
On the computer however, it just says "<Waiting for device>" forever. weird
Any ideas guys?

Okay, well thanks for your help though!
I have a couple ideas, not sure if any work.
1) test with the phone in android to see if HTC Sync recognizes the phone
2) Re-download fastboot and re extract it to make sure it's not that
3) Boot into twrp and see if it recognizes adb commands. This one won't fix it, but I'm just wondering if could possibly be a problem with the phone not recognizing while not in system
4) Use adb to reboot to bootloader instead of using the apm or holding down volume. "adb reboot bootloader"
If I helped you don't forget the thanks button!

Try uninstalling everything HTC
Reboot you pc and phone
Once both are booted plug your phone in and it should load a bunch if drivers
Also when you go to bootloader it should install more drivers
If that does not work
Get the latest drivers from HERE choose the 6/6/13

hey guys,
hopefully someone can help me, i'm trying to unlock my bootloader to install custom kernels.
here is when i think it goes wrong:
i'm using sony's official method but when i connect the phone in fastboot mode the computer doesn't ask for drivers like it should (says in instructions).
so i can't choose the modified driver that i've downloaded from the instructions.
thanks in advance!
you may already have it installed if you have installed flashtool.
I suggest deleting all sony/adb/phone applications on your computer, rebooting, and starting again

even after a fresh install of my computer i can't get it to work.
i searched on google and found out that there are some issues with windows 8.
but after following specific instructions on windows 8 it still isn't working.
then i took an old windows vista computer from the attic and tried it with that.
it atleast asks for drivers but when i get the option to select the drivers myself it instantly disappears because the phone only stays in fastboot for about 10 seconds.
only thing i can think of is installing XP on my old system but is it normal it stays in fastboot for only 10 seconds? then it switches to charging mode.
unlock bootloader allowed is yes!
Download and install flash tool.
Run drivers.exe from the install folder.
Choose fastboot, flashmode and TX drivers.
Then try again for unlocking

EDIT
W8 is a known problem with drivers. That's why is was failing before. Vista or W7 should work fine.

got the drivers installed on my w8 system with flashtool, now the phone stays in fastboot (blue light)

Open a command window and go to the tools folder within the Android SDK folder.
Enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version, and verify that you get a response back (for example "0.3"). This means your device is connected properly.
there is no fastboot.exe in the tools folder of sdk..
there is one in some folder of flashtool, can i use that one to complete the last point of the instruction?

I've had the same problem in windows 8.1... Fastboot device cannot be recognized by the system, but i don't know why; the problem was "Error enumerating device id". If you see hardware id, it doesn't exists and the driver won't be found. I returned to windows 7.

Mind if you shared a way of doing that?
Installing the official sony flashtool with its drivers didn't help + every other way I tried (that worked when I had 8) also resulted in failure.
PS:When I connect it in fastboot, windows says that "drivers malfunctioned, unknown USB device"

load wubi (windows ubuntu installer) over the link http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Wubi
than install ubuntu, on harddrive C:// and reboot your Pc
Now you have a linux in your current system, you can remove ubuntu (linux) in Programms & feautures list in windows.
now reboot reboot the system and isntall in ubuntu fastboot.
you musst give in the terminal sudo apt-get fastboot
and now you can flash your bootloader in linux.
but you musst sudo bevor you type fastboot flash type sudo fastboot flash boot boot.img
you say it is easy
gooogle wubi (windows ubuntu installer)

Same..
Exactly the same problem here. On windows 8, no issue. After updating to 8.1, "Error enumerating device id". I've tried everything, but nothing.
I had my xperia without kernel, and I REALLY needed Fastboot, so I had to go to a W7 pc, and no issue then.
Ohh, and I can't disable driver verification on W8.1 . When i'm in advanced boot menu, I just can't press any key. The keyboard doesn't work, and I have to Hard Reboot. Any idea?
EDITED
This worked for me : http://www.droid-now.com/2013/10/fix-working-fastboot-drivers-windows-8-1-x64/
So now I can use fastboot/ flashmode, but only if I connect the phone to an usb 3.0 port. On 2.0 the issue is still there.

As I see the only way to get access to fastboot and flash mode is to use windows 8 or lower.
Here is the cause of our problem and there is no solution so far: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog...8-0-but-fail-on-windows-8-1-with-code-43.aspx
EDIT: I used the old XP machine of my parents to unlock the bootloader and everything worked fine
well w8.1 certainly cannot use fastboot if you plug it into USB 2.0 port..as microsoft has change it usb policies in w8.1, the only way to use fastboot in w8.1 is to plug into a USB 3.0 hub, and install your driver the same way before..

I had the same problem a few weeks back. The phone was not recognised by any computer. If you fiddle around with the micro usb on the phone it would recognise the phone for a second. It took me nearly two weeks of trying, to flash a RUU and get the phone back to stock for a repair.
I asked in the shop if this was common and the lad said it has happened to others. It is dust that gets in the usb and people cleaning shorts the motherboard???? I didn't clean anything so I don't know if this is true.
Anyway I got a replacement phone. Maybe you should keep it at stock and get a replacement. If it happens once it will happen again.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync, if you haven't already, uninstall driver, reinstall HTC Sync and see if you can't get the PC to see it. And when the pop up on the phone comes, check always allow.
When I type lsusb : I don't see my One..
htc drivers and htc sync don't works everytime it say unknown device..
My rednote is not being recognised by my Win10 PC when in fastboot mode. ADB is fine but the moment it boots into fastboot, it disappears. I've tried numerous different drivers now, and restarted the PC to disable driver signature but nothing seems to work. Fastboot mode is recognised when the phone is connected to my linux laptop.
Is there a trick to it? Or a guaranteed set of drivers that work both adb and fastboot?
I want to unlock my phone but cannot run the official MiUnlock tool.

For those who have problems installing , you need to create a new folder called "Desktop" in C:/Users/*Your user*

This is exactly my problem on Redmi note 11S. I already tried a lot of drivers and tutorials and still no succes. In linux fastboot works.
PS: Les Girauds, you can unlock bootloader by mtkclient (linux), not just via official tool (Mi unlock). I already did it.

Thanks, might give that a go.
I tried another UNIX based unlock solution yesterday (a python prog from GitHub) and whilst it didn't work cleanly (nor successfully unlock the device) I did see in the garbled error message returned about having to wait 121 hours. So maybe the phone will be successfully unlocked on Tuesday!

Thanks, that's worked. The Yt video didn't show for me so I copied it's URL and opened in a separate browser window. The video went through the process for Win 11 but I guess it's the same for Win10 (my system), and it worked so that's OK. Weird thing is, it was only an install of the generic adb drivers which I'd installed previously anyway, and had been using for some time, doing updates on my Lenovo tablet etc. So they were there and working once upon a time. I can only assume that the process of installing the MiUnlock screwed them up somehow.
@Magic Cucumber - it might be worth you simply reinstalling the standard adb platform tools, It might give you back fastboot access

Thank you. It worked. The MIUnlock said I had to wait but mtkclient did it immediately.
Now I'm going to flash a custom ROM, and maybe twrp, just have a device I'm happier with. Xiaomi phones maybe good value but I don't like the stock software.
