I tried using android 9 multi-camera api, I can call characteristics.getPhysicalCameraIds() buy it returns nothing, I also can't find CameraMetadata.REQUEST_AVAILABLE_CAPABILITIES_LOGICAL_MULTI_CAMERA in characteristics.get(CameraCharacteristics.REQUEST_AVAILABLE_CAPABILITIES). It means no multi-camera support in android 9 api from samsung.
Samsung camera SDK was updated only on Nov 15, 2018, so no help from this side also.
Are there other ways to programmatically get acces to all rear cameras?
Hey, I also ran into this problem. Have you got this issue solved?

I also tried on Huawei Honor 10, Huawei P20 Pro, Galaxy S9 Plus, OnePlus 5, Galaxy A50. Same result.
It seems that Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Google Pixel 3 support new api. Haven't tried those phones.

Indeed! Just tried on Google Pixel 3 and got the two physical ids for the front cameras.
It's possible to get access to 2nd rear camera (wide one) on Galaxy S10+. No api level 28 (android 9) is needed.
It does not support ConstrainedHighSpeedCaptureSession compared to main rear camera.

Huawei camera2api is one of the worst ever. It's the second worst after Sony. You can't hack it like Xiaomi

Only for the latest S10 series, with limited wide angle access & no telephoto access
Note9 s9 pie don't get similar support, same like Samsung latest mid-range phones

Hello everyone, I upgraded from note 4 to note 9. In Note 4 I had option in camera apk where I could choose camera mode where both camera rear and front was using I the some time. I can not find this option in note 9. There is no any download section either. It is very disappointed for note 9. Does anyone know is it any chance to bring this option for note 9?
It was removed from the camera a long time ago.
On Note8 i was able to use it .. downloaded from apk mirror and it worked ... Tried the same with Note9, but without success

It`s shame such device can`t use both rear and front camera in the same time but my old device Galaxy Note 3 can do this simple task! Probably somebody will find a way for us!
Really disappointing
Same here bro, i upgraded from note 4 to 9 and realise that dual camera option is missing. What a bull****. Shame on Samsung, first they took free inbuilt Radio and now dual camera option.

Depending on which Note 9 you have, the FM capabilities might be there, you'll have to install an FM radio app:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/fm-radio-enabled-t3833113
Anyone manage to get this working? The mode is useful else all photos taken by me won't have me in it
I upgraded from note 5 to 9 and am surprised to see my most used camera function gone. I thought Samsung was all about the bloatware.
This bixby button can go to hell too.
I can't understand what the practical, or "business" reason, Samsung has for removing this very useful feature. Are there at least any third party apps that can do this?
Alternative dual camera
Try this... Work well in my note 9 with Android P

lol? it takes one picture, then second and then merge them together... this is not the same as samsungs dual picture (which was live).
I what you wish to do is take a high quality photo of for example friends and yourself or landscape and you, how about set up camera on case 'stand', compose picture then take remotely with bluetooth pen 'shutter release ' function
If you search and download the dual camera apk it will install just fine in Oreo 8.1... but unfortunately it needs an older camera apk.
Does anyone have working apks for these? I was able to install the most recent updates from apk mirror but they don't show in my camera modes or edit camera modes. Does anyone know if these are being worked on?
I want dual mode too...

It is truly disappointing how Samsung removed the additional Camera modes for Note 9 users..

I believe the Note 8 camera has no issues using the different downloadable modes (dual camera, sports, surround shot). Problem is trying to make them work on the Note9.

Not just that, it's much more disappointing that they actually decided on going with a *lower* resolution sensor than that of the Note 4 (of all).
I would never have expected that years along the line, camera quality for the Samsung Note range would go down, instead of up. Especially not in the steps from Note 4 towards Note 9.
But it did, and they're not even sorry, it seems.
We need a heavily amped up camera mod, with 100% jpeg and such. I'll try what I can do myself.
Hi all
In that tricky position of weighing up 2 phones. Mate 20 x vs note 9. Since emui 9, no gcam will work on huawei phones. I've read a few users report that gcam works for awhile but then stops on their note 9.
Has anyone had this happen since updating to pie on their note 9?
Thanks
I updated my unlocked snapdragon unit to pie, Gcam still works the same, but protrait mode somehow broke, it's not working at all on either of the cameras

I think you should buy realme x2 pro. Great price for great phone, cheaper than everything and they will add bootloader unlock at some point. Just as good as everything else but cheaper. Also 90 hz screen

P30 pro best one of all. and the most superior camera, if you are into photography. Also battery life is insane.

Tell that to V50. The only thing that P30 does better is extreme zoom. I've compared it with V50 and it's way behind.

Check dxomark, they have the mate p30 pro as best camera on any phone, they do professional photography rating on devices.
What is your priorities?
First I would eliminate Note 9 in the list cause it has last years processor Snapdragon 845
If you like smaller phones and don`t need 5G I would choose G8 instead of V50
If you need the 3.5mm jack I would only get lg g8 or s10 plus not Note 9 again cause it is aged now.
Tell me your priorities I will tell you what to choose
First, check if those phones cover all the bands your service uses. I'm on Mint, which uses T-Mobile's network. I was previously interested in the P30 Pro, Mate 20 or 30 Pro, etc... But they're not as dev friendly as I want them to be, and they're lacking a couple bands (or more).
I can't get the V50, so I was down to comparing the S10+, Note 10/10+ and the G8. I got a local store to match Amazon's sale price of $499, so I went with the LG G8 (don't buy it from Amazon if you ever want updates).
I tested all the cameras on them in the store, and the G8 was as good or better than all of them. I wanted to buy a global market S10+, but it's simply not worth the extra money to me for what's really a lesser phone.
My previous phone was the LG V40, which was also great, but my wife wanted it, and I was bored...so now it's hers.
Thanks,
Josh

I've compared them side by side and LG V50 murders it. Photos and videos. It's like 30% ahead. Big difference. Also quad dac and so on. Better display, better design etc.
You should check VCX score regarding cameras. LG is no. 1.

IPhone 11 pro max is a nice phone. Great camera, in fact they are made by LG Innotek.
It has great photo quality, but it seems it looses points by some weird artifacts.
Also you should check their methods of testing. Really interesting.

Regarding my opinion about P30 pro, is not based on the VCX score, it is based on my side by side camera comparison.

It is good to know. Thanks for the information
LG G8x - this will be the US version with the dual screen setup.
We know that the hardware is identical but will it serve for our note 8?
Maybe in a custom rom version is it safe but officially?
what do you think?

IF the S8 does get Android 10, I am quite sure it would come to the N8 too.
I think we deserve it after putting trust back in the note series after dodgy batteries.
That is just a unconfirmed rumor. However if it does prove to be true then the Note 8 should also get Android 10 as well.
Hope N8 dont go Andoird 10, i think actualy N8 its very stable like it is! Hope it last more 3 years like this

Samsung will probably continue to provide security patches for the Note 8 running on Pie anyway in the future. So it should be fine.

That's just the monthly patch. I don't anticipate an Android 10 update for even the S8, as Samsung is in the business of selling new phones.

Yep
Was just elaborating on the security patch release.
I doubt we will get A10 for our N8.
The Open Handset Alliance stipulates that manufacturers should support firmware updates for (Android) devices for the first 18 months. The Note 8 is older than that. Since our (international) Note 8's get the security updates directly from Samsung, we can continue to expect only the monthly security patches. Carrier-branded Note 8's are at the mercy of the respective carriers for the security updates.
Personally, I don't see a benefit to switch to a Note 9 to get this update (from a hardware perspective).
I'd probably do a Note 10 in 2020 because I feel my Note 8's internal battery will stop holding charge then, and screen-burn in may be an issue at that point. My Note 8 is still in mint condition, so I'm trying to find a fault with it .
---------- Post added at 10:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:35 AM ----------
Samsung can always argue that they migrated us from 7.1.1 to Pie (and are still giving us security patches).
Very Cool! I read up a bit. Who knows if it is true or not. IF so I might just keep my trusty old s8+ which rocks btw instead of getting a note 10+ or a s20 just yet.

Samsung does. Omitting the Note 10 from all published list of devices for an Android 10 release would be a good indication.
Right now, I'd jump ship and get the Note equivalent of the S20 Ultra, only for the 100x camera, but the screen is too big to fit my average pocket, and the price is currently out of my reach.
