Does anyone know if the S10e has a notification light? I read somewhere on this site that there's a multi colour light around the camera but I havent seen this mentioned elsewhere. Thanks.
there is no LED pulse notification anymore -, there is a camera border light similar to edge lightning but not sure if you can customise it for notifications -
Bummer... I like that light very much and also want to know if there is a way to have the same possible although in some new way
The Samsung LED cases (Wallet cover or back cover) can show notifications and are customizable.
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...0-plus-led-wallet-cover-black-ef-ng975pbegus/
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...10-plus-led-back-cover-black-ef-kg975cbegus//
Keep in mind, the above links are for the S10+ variant, but the other models have their own as well.
Will have to wait for someone to chime in with first hand information on the camera border light as I'm not prepared to spend $65 on a case and the notification LED is essential to me.

Is there any video on how they work. I didn't know about them.
S10 apparently loses the led notification light, but will retain edge lighting which can be frustrating .
Tbh it's not a bad thing, I get distracted by the led flashing when something comes in and dont use aod

What if I opted for S10e, could edge lighting be on this phone as well as on 2 other models?
Samsung's reasoning was that it would distract from their new edge to edge display.

Hopefully the ring light supports the same API as the LED light did. That should let Light Manager Pro work as is or at least give the developer a quick way of updating it. I've really come to depend on that app to be able to see charge state or type of notification (email, text, etc) my phone received from across the room.

I'm also using light manager and sure hope it would work somehow with the S10. I really need the notification light.

The ring light is also mentioned here: https://phandroid.com/2019/02/22/our-favorite-new-one-ui-features-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s10/
Unfortunately, I have seen it work on any video reviews yet so I can't tell how visible it is.
:fingers-crossed:Come on everyone. We all know someone in here will figure out how to enable the camera ring to do just about anything we want. It may take a few weeks/months but it'll get there.....:fingers-crossed:
I really hope they or someone else will make the circle light around the punch for notifications.
That would look so dope.

Oh yes, that's going to be great
i recall seeing it in one of the yt vids from the past days. but cant remember in which on. it lights up white when cam is in use. and they at least mentioned the notification light. haven't seen the notification light yesterday at the electronics store but again that where still demo units with no working fingerprint and oder things disabled
I have bought the s10 plus for 3 days, unfortunately the cameras ring doesn't light up when i receive notifications .

Has anyone noticed the circle to the left of the "N" button? Is this a proximity sensor? If not, what is it? Any ideas?
Looks like a ambient light sensor or something the like. Maybe on a future upgrade new features will include self adjusting backlight
I noticed this too and was going to post. It appears to be an ambient light sensor, but it's not in use. It seems rather large though..
I noticed this too, and thought it would be cool if when you closed the flap on your case (if you got a flip-case) and you were reading a book, it automatically bookmarks the page you're on and pauses your music or something.
Just thought that would be neat.
Hmm... I don't see the 'circle' on mine... i don't suppose this is something you can take a picture of?

If you have the "spare parts" app installed , you can get to the brightness settings that let you select "automatic".
With battery life being an issue on ereaders in general, I'm surprised they don't have it set to automatic by default.

But does it actually work? I've been able to set the backlight to automatic but it just dims and never changes. I even tried flashing a light into the sensor, but didn't get any change.

Ouch, you're right. I also tried running sensor test and it sees a light sensor but the reading shows a steady zero no matter what the actual light conditions are. Perhaps the driver for it isn't enabled and they plan to use it in a future release?

Settle down there partner. You are trolling this thread pretty hard unless you are blind. I can even see it in the picture you posted.
I've been looking for info on this and just talked to AT&T. They are certain this device doesn't have a notification LED on it. When I first got it I thought it was DOA, as when I went to power it on I got no LED or screen for nearly 10 seconds.
Could they really have omitted the notification LED on a smartphone like this!?
*sigh* Also, hello to all!!! First post, but I've been lurking ever since the end of November after I got this device and watched the rooting threads like a hawk
There is no dedicated LED (e.g. red flashing LED, etc) on the Captivate. Best we have is some modifications that cause the lights behind the 4 capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone to light up when a message/email/event occurs.

*sigh* Go figure. I guess I'll have to look into that then at some point. It just boggles my mind that such a phone doesn't have a notification LED...the last phone I had with that issue was from 2007...and was an old school "feature phone"
It's actually fairly useful - the only real drawback is that it's a little on the dim side. I'm finding it works best for me early in the mornings when it's still dark enough to see the lights easily.

Thanks. Would you be so kind as to provide a link?
I really do miss the notification LED. Coming from my N900, that's one thing that was always VERY good at.
You could also try NoLED in the market, but it wastes power pretty bad. It's about the only alternative to a BLN kernel.

You have to flash a custom kernel that has bln enabled, then just go to the market and grab the bln control app. There is a free and a paid version.
Paid version offers a blinking option which if nice.
Can't really link you cause dunno what firmware you're using.
All custom froyo kernels have it. And all I9000 ported gingerbread kernels have it. Native leaked gingerbread builds do not as there is no source to build from.
Check out NoLED in the market.

Wanted to see if anyone elses' X does this.
Go into a dark/pitch black room.
Face down your phone and pick it up / get the AN to trigger.
Watch your screen after the AN fades out.
Does your whole screen go through a wavy/flicker effect? Lasts about 1 second. Looks slightly grey/brownish. Not so noticeable when it's bright out.
I have noticed this. I wanted to see if the active notification pixels were the only ones lighting up and I think they are. However, there is that brief moment that the whole screen is emitting enough light to be noticeable.
Ya I have noticed this too but only in very dark rooms. I'm not to worried; battery life is great for my usage.

I have find this app, it's the same as Motos Active Screen, but it doesn't flicker for me.

Then let us see an image of your device (if younger than 1 year, obviously) with a led light different from white and/or let us see a fix as stated in your screenshot, otherwise it would be nothing further than speech and speculations

Its not speech or speculation just try to open up or tear down the phone (which you will not be able to do obviously) in any mobile service centre to find out the rgb led in all xiaomi devices. They have just locked it one white color for more battery purpose according to xiaomi.
And by the way I have natrium device which is one year old obviously. Im not owner of xiaomi company so fix hasn't released for public

While I apreciate the news that the LED HW is multicolor, xiaomi blocks it, although they have released the kernel sources, that post its over 9 months old, and no one have figured it out how to unlock more colors(at lesat for MI 6), so the OP question is valid.
and the answer is the LED its white only (although hardware supports more colors).

I just got my unit. I can get a spining white ring on the front facing camera when I lift to wake with face unlock, but I can not find the option to turn it on for phone calls and messages etc.... I get edge lighting for 10 seconds or so.. I would love to have this option as I saw it active on a random video but I cant find the video again... Not a feature (yet) we all hope that Samsung will do it...
On reddit the consensus is this is a feature that would be in a future update. I saw screenshots from Samsung support confirming this.

The options he gave are still helpful for now though, as not only can you enable the rear flash, but the front screen to flash yellow when you receive a message. It's something at least for now. I just hope Samsung pushes out an update to enable the ring around the camera to be used. Just makes total sense since they removed the LED notification. :fingers-crossed:

An update got pushed to my S10e just a bit ago. Might be the one you wanted?
Circle of Light does not exist. The only thing that exist is the possibility as this is the actual screen and not any special hardware. The same edge lighting like concept can be used to illuminate pixels around the camera. If samsung does not do something, let them release the source and give us access to api's. we can do it ourselves. We just need to modify the edge lighting feature to shrink it to camera cutout and increase timings etc. I am feeling so lost without the notification LED. My pre order does not have a cancellation option. If I had I would have cancelled.
Will the ring light has potential burn in risk?
Should be. If you closely take a look at the camera cutout and the front camera animation, you'd see it's a part of the actual screen. So, It have amoled burn in risk unless or if samsung can access the pixels through hardware directly without actually turning on the whole screen.
