Hi guys, I'll go straight to the point: I was thinking of exchanging my Xperia S for an Xperia T, paying about 30€. I have some questions for you owners, hoping you'll take a couple of minutes to answer me
T is more powerful, no doubt about that (actually I do have a doubt: does it have dual channel RAM like Xperia V or is it the same RAM as Xperia S? ). What I'm particularly interested in is:
- Camera -> Better? Worse? Same? Apart from those 13 MegaPixels, Sony sensors are always quite good, the problem is how Sony optimizes the software part (sometimes awfully, unfortunately). So... would I regret switching from S to T?
- Battery -> Neither T nor S have great battery life, this is actually well known. But how's battery life of Xperia T comparing to the one of Xperia S? I'm actually satisfied (enough) with my S... would I regret buying this T?
- Bugs & Problems -> Is there any terrible bug that I should be aware of? And in that case would I be able to solve it with a little modding?
- Last question: would you recommend me to change my S with a T for just 30€, or do you find it useless?
Thank you for your attention, hope to read you soon
I've got the T, my brother has the S, so I#ve had the chance to use both (at least a bit)

About even. 1MP more doesn't matter (you won't notice such a small increase in pixels. A camera needs to have at least 25% more pxels to show a visible increse) - and since most of us don't print and most screens still show only 2MP the pixel increase is irrelevant.

Also: about even. You can get through a day with both with restricted usage, but heavy usage will drain both fast

Not really a bug but an annoyance: the home/back buttons are softbuttons that take up screen real estate unlike the S, which has those buttons as sperate touch areas

I wouldn't upgrade. Maybe, if I knew I could sell the S for more than 30€ but otherwise: no. Not worth it
Camera MP count

I agree a 1 MP increase is irrelevant. Unless the increase goes in hand with a bigger pixel size, which usually means a bigger sensor. Even the opposite is true. Higher pixel count means higher pixel density which mean higher digital noise which means more software noise suppression which means more loss of detail!
The really relevant data would be the sensor size, and secondly pixel density. The same sensor size with 5 MP count would potentially deliver a far better quality, especially in low light conditions.
The useless counting of MP is the prove of marketing powers. Even when using the build in digital zoom, anything more than 10 MP in a hand phone or compact camera is looking good on the package description, but delivers no value to the consumer. Professionals seldom need more than 20 MP. They have much better sensors in their cameras, which are multiple the size of the toy sensor which is in a phone. The right feature in the Xperia would be a switch to connect two or three pixels to one unit, that would be a real improvement.
To the phone, wait for the next good offer. The differences are not earth shaking.

Yeah the biggest reason I could see to upgrade is the increased screen size it's a lot nicer to use then a 4.3 and maybe the build of the LT30A is one is one of the things that made me fall in love with this phone when I was buying it but other then that and maybe the small apps I can't see a reason to upgrade just wait till something better comes out.
Thanks for your replies. I actually specified that I know those "13 MegaPixel" means nothing: that's why I was asing users about the camera quality, because I can't just rely on that number
Apart from that, I'm just willing to change because the Xperia T design is one of my favourite ones, plus it will still receive support from Sony. I'll probably go through a serious change in march/april 2014, but for now I'm just a bit tired of the S (though I'm quite satisfied with it).
Thank you anyway for your opinions, hope to read more from you

Actually 2 words : "Under investigations"
From a development point of view it would make much more sense to take the T over the S. The T is getting an official 4.3 update (maybe even 4.4) and the S isn't. Developers are currently doing fantastic things with the T from solid stock ROMs like Hybrid and Miui to super fast and smooth 4.4 ROMs such as OmniRom. They are doing so much on old kernels and software. Imagine what they'll be able to do once the T gets 4.3 or 4.4.
Hi.
I've got an offer to buy a 1 month old Nokia 8 for 250 euro/300 dollars.
I've been looking at the Nokia 7 plus which is about 390 euro/460 dollar in my country.
I've got a Iphone 7 as it is, but i really wanna go back to Android now that i finally have the option and my all time favorite phone is Nexus 1, so i want so close to stock android as possible.
The biggest fear i've got is the camera. I don't want anything worse then i got today. Would you say it's worse/same/better?
Which one would you buy if you had the chance?
Thanks in advance!
Look at the specs. You will see the Nokia 8 much better than 7th.
NOKIA 8 is one of the most underrated telefon, SD 835 and 250 € it's a great deal.

You can replace it with Google camera app and you get premium feeling.
Depends on what you want the phone for... For me I like to try new new new, Android never my main phone, just a playground, I want to try AOSP, I like to try latest Android... My main phone is iPhone.
At the moment Nokia is not keeping up to their promise, they're busy with launching more models and Nokia 8 is not getting their May Security Patch yet, and it's not Project Treble... Camera also has no Pro Manual mode yet.
So if you want a long lasting software patching phone I suppose any of their new Android One is better...
2 days ago I was so tempted to sell off my 6 months old Nokia 8 to replace with Mi Mix 2s because of Android P beta preview. Even my Mi 5 running LineAge OS has May Security Patch!
Updated: just tried out Google camera (as others suggested) on Nokia 8, it crash my phone when I turn on Motion option, and HDR set to High quality isn't great, mainly just over exposed compared to Medium (Default).

Premium feel is when the camera works fluently without mods. Even with mods the camera is mediocre and can't compete with any flagships past few years.

You're either a hater or you haven't held a Nokia 8 in your hands that uses Google Camera.
The results I get with this thing are better than most of the recent flagships and almost matches the images you can get on a Pixel 2.
Pls refrain from posting bull$h!t and confusing the OP. Thx.
I'm neither of what you accuse. I'm just not giving false hope for OP coming from iPhone 7 that Nokia 8 camera is on par with competition.
https://www.dxomark.com/nokia-8-review-nokias-return-high-end-segment/
You can get a little better results with mods of course, but it won't fix the limitations of that Sony sensor. It's still slow and mediocre in low light / indoors.

The difference is day and night. It's not "a little better". Low light as well - drastically different than the default camera app processing.
Pls end your nonsense. It's HMD's fault that they screwed up the camera app. But this is a huge and significant mod that breathes new life into this phone's camera capabilities.
The camera really is bad , i have the nokia 8 and i agree
But also agree that with google camera it works a thousand times better and it has no problem matching the quality of the photos of iphone 7
Regarding to everything else , nokia 8 is better in everything , snapdragon 835 is just fabulous , ram management is also good
Batttery life , power and everything else is close to the iphone 7 , if you want to go back to android , sell iph7 , win big money and buy nokia 8 , is the best choice

Installing another manufacturer's algorithms won't fix the slow shutter speed and low light capabilities of the 1.12 um sensor.
Every android phone that i've tried has some pluses and minuses in google camera app mods. Usually low light images are better but that's it, then you might experience glare in day shots or something else.. oh and you lose all the gimmicks that the oem has put on its software/hardware (nokia 8 dual lens for example and ozo sound in video).
So it's a hit or miss.. Especially when there are no apks that are optimized for nokia 8.
And believe me, i would love to be wrong in this, but in this current state the camera is mediocre.. with or without mods. I hope nokia would use that second lens to improve low light..

Agree, I spend more money (on non Chinese brands) because of Nokia's quality, it's losing the purpose of pay a premium for Zeiss Lens and not able to benefit the Dual or PIP features in the stock app. The lens (and it's features) and USB 3 was the only reason Nokia worth the premium for, else it is just a Mi 6.

1 The display looks completely fine to me. If you want to test it under laboratory conditions, it might only get average results or it might get great results. It's irrelevant to me. To my eyes it's definitely more than good enough.
2. Who knows the future? If a large number of POCO F1 devs move onto this phone, then it should have a healthy custom ROM scene.
3. Not that I've noticed, but then I don't play the sort of games where any issues would be noticeable.

1. It's a FHD+ (1080) Samsung AMOLED display, it's a long way from a budget phone display. It isn't the best display Samsung make, but it's still very good. It won't have the most accurate colour rendition, it won't have the greatest dynamic range, it won't have the highest brightness. But in everyday use you will not notice that it's not the absolute best. Unless you're a serious photographer, wanting to see your work on the phone, or if want to watch HDR+ movies on the phone, then it's more than good enough.
2. The developer of the only actively worked on LOS GSI has done some great work to activate the front cam whenever any app wants to use it. This fix is slowly working it's way into other GSI ROMs. There is still an issue with the front cam popping up when the phone first boots, but it's early days and the phone's not yet been released globally. If enough devs get their hands on it, when it's more widely released, we should see some custom ROMs specific for the phone.

Thanks a lot brother appreciate you replied and cleared my doubt :good: thanks again
First, I strongly believe that sub $300 phones can do almost everything you'll ever need
in your Android phone as Budget phones keep getting better and better.
Realme x2 is the latest proof of this and it took me some time to research to come to
this conclusion from this thread
I was about settling for Mi 9 Lite (Mi CC9) when the global version of X2 came out
and it turns out that the only thing I will miss is IR blaster, which is not a deal-breaker
when you compare it to the things I could gain with Realme X2 over it.
I just ordered Realme X2 Global version (8/128G) here for $279 with free shipping which is fast.
You could even get a better deal with 11.11 festival around the corner but this is a great
value. And as my tradition is, I always discuss the first things I do with a new phone.
BOOTLOADER UNLOCK
This one is still a mystery on how to unlock the bootloader but a mystery I am determined
to find an answer to before my phone arrives in about 2 weeks.
TWRP, ROOT, AND MAGISK
I am not sure how much bloatware is in X2 Global version but I usually use phones
with root access so, I will have to get that.
I am a bit worried about the poor Dev community response to this great phone but I am
not perturbed bc it is still a new phone.
ALL KINDS OF TEST
I don't usually believe in antutu benchmarks but I'll add the test for others who will love to see it.
I am a real-life day to day usage test kind of person. Wifi download speeds, file copy and write speeds,
LTE download speeds, multiple SOT test, multiple battery drain/Charging test, NFC test, Gcam, Photos and
videos, inbuilt mic recording quality, GPS test, Bluetooth tests, OTG test etc.
SD730G is here to stay and will still be a 2020 budget king SoC contender so, you cannot go wrong with
Realme X2
Good post.
What some people don't realise that the difference between 730G and 855+ SoC is very minor and you can't feel it in your every day use. But for some reason people are willing to pay $200-$300 more for a 855+ device
Also the new hyp about over 100MP cameras is pretty riddiculous. Taking 100MP photos everyday is just so unpractical and more often than not, it would distort the quality of the photo.
I am pretty hopeful that the dev community will pick up once the device is a little older e.g. in 6 to 8 months time. We should be able to unlock the bootloader and get custom ROMs for it.

The main beef I had with realme marketing strategy was the close proximity of X2 and X2pro
The X2pro took out the shine from X2 a bit as I strongly believed that X2 is a better all-round phone
than Redmi Note 8pro. They should have given it 3 - 6 months Gap before marketing the pro version
Xaiomi selling Mi Note 10 with (SD 730G) way higher than X2 is a great marketing Advantage for
Realme X2 which is not doing too badly on the megapixels count race. Megapixels don't count
all that much (ask Pixel and iPhone) good sensors and software are way more important.
Once the dev community picks up, you can even tweak this phone to get an improved
performance and software experience.
I am not interested in spending an extra $150 - 250 for SD855 it makes no sense to pay that
to get 4k 60fsp that I may not ever use as 4k30fsp is large enough. It's like paying more to
get a more power-hungry processor, Power draining 90Hz and stereo speaker when I
consume all my media with headset or Bluetooth, Yeah! I'll pass, not a heavy gamer and even if I do, SD730G can game heavy. The real-life difference is so minute and insignificant. Unfortunately, some people still buy phones only antutu benchmark scores
Like Bolumstar said, Realme killed the x2 when they released the x2pro almost immediately. A quick search of realme x2 on google, and all you will see is realme x2pro. It was really annoying cos this is a great around phone. 730G is as good as it gets for me. Anything higher is like killing an ant with a sledgehammer. What exactly am I gonna do with 108mp camera? Take a picture of the solar system? 64mp is already crazy enough. 108mp is madness.

You said it. Totally agree. I'm a Pixel 3a user (which has the even "worse" 670), and I definitively don't think that I will need even a Hertz more of CPU. And I'm surely not the "average user" person.
I'm thinking of actually buying this for my mother or give her the Pixel 3a and take this one, but I think I kinda fall in love with the Pixel experience right now (also if Android 10 is pretty buggy IMHO).

The Pixel 3a is a rip-off in comparision. BTW. it is not all about performance, the 730G is much more efficient.
Realme x2 is a great phone. On the processor you have already said enough, the cost difference with the slightly more powerful processors is too much not to consider the best 730g of these.
Obviously the performance of a smartphone is not the result of the soc alone, but the X2 is the set of these, of a good amount of ram, 8GB in LPDDR4X, a UFS 2.1 internal storage, a super amoled FHD + display with a readability spectacular in all light conditions and with any reading angle. I use it with a Samsung V3 512 GB sd card and the file transfer from the internal storage to the latter is very fast. the connectivity sector is also excellent, good wifi and LTE reception, excellent bluetooth, completed by the presence of the NFC. as for energy consumption it is easy to spend praise, I read the battery drain on the forum, well I have no knowledge of it, I have always used the Ampere widget on the home to keep the current constantly under control and so far I never had having seen a smartphone consume only 100 mh at rest between 350 and 700 in use, even heavy. To this must be added the VOOC recharging speed which is really fast and unimpeded, I explain, with the redmi you have the quick charge which should give almost the same performance, but from personal experience I know it is not so, while I loaded with a charger quick 3 the phone became a stove, temperatures between 45 and 50 degrees, throttling and reducing the charging current from 3200 m to just 1500. The Realme quietly charges with temperatures of only 30 ° at 3400 mh and drops only on '86% of the battery at 1500 as rightly needs to be.
I now come to what I think is a huge mistake that all average users make when they choose to buy one phone over another. The first question is: "How many megapixels does the camera have?"... In my opinion, a smartphone is a smartphone, it could even have six thousand megapixels, it can never, ever have the performance of a camera, even simply of average price . Photography is not done with megapixels, but with good quality optical lens, with shots chosen through optical and non-digital zoom, with lighting reading systems for choosing the right exposure times and apertures... The smartphone in my opinion it is enough that you make decent pictures of your daughter's birthday and pictures of the holiday and that's it. I give an example... How many of us really want to go around in the dark countryside to photograph the stars with the astrography function??? Because only in this way the stars are photographed, without optical noise of city lights, and I add with exposure times that they would like a tripod that follows the rotation.
The Realme as a photographic sector also decently answers with the camera stock. It has a bit too much saturation in the colors, but if like me you are content to take "normal" photos, giving up slowmotion, night photos, just look for a decent gcam that allows you to set the white control in the settings, AWB, and the HDR+ options and it becomes spectacular. Obviously this makes it clear that the photo hardware is excellent and a bit more effort than Realme would be enough to improve the software and the stock camera would be enough.
So far I have always had mid-range smartphones, starting with the legendary OnePlus One, going from Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi note 7. everyone has endured shameless modding, the One has seen six versions of android and hundreds of roms, and it scared me a little the fact that the Realme X2, both, we hope, because new, and because as has been said above was overwhelmed by the Realme X2 Pro, it still didn't have a good community dev. Instead I must say with great satisfaction that even as it is, stock, with a bit of debloat from adb, with AdGuard that removes the ads from the browsers, with Sd Maid pro that keeps it clean thanks to the scheduler, I don't even feel the lack in the slightest of custom roms and, even for the first time, even root.
Of course if there would be everything it would be easier, but, which I do not understand, Realme seems to put stakes to unlock the bootloader, in my opinion or give it a chance without detracting from the phone reducing it category in the security environment or not. ..
But this is a strategy speech and we will see how much will be exceeded by the spread of the telephone. In fact I am convinced that the development community is regulated by the demand and the offer, the more we will be the owners of the device the more modding demand there will be and the more we will have ...

OnePlus 6T user here migrating to a Pixel 5. OnePlus updates slow significantly over time. 18th months after device launch your phone is 3rd tier for their development team. Below is the device update history from T-Mobile for the OnePlus 6T. Notice the change in release frequency from launch till current. I'm buying the Pixel 5 because of poor update support from OnePlus. Samsung has superior device software support to OnePlus.

interest , i thought that onePlus won't do such things, i thought that they will not leave the users

as far as i saw from camera examples, the differences for regular people where not compare to SLR cameras are not so high , they improve the camera at the onePlus 8 pro, do i wrong?
about the updates, the onePlus 8 pro have the android 11 , the onePlus 7 have the android 10 and will get in month or two the android 11, also the onePlus 6 as far as i read, so whats the big deal?
at the other hand we are getting higher battery size, stronger processor, and larger screen , isn't it?

The oneplus does not have official 11, it's just a beta release
-P5 is a more managable size.
-Updates, 3 years of updates too.
-I've never ran OxygenOS on my OP6 because I've always had issues with it not giving me timely notifications. People probably think I'm crazy when I say that but AOSP roms don't have that issue for me. I'd prefer to run stock, maybe rooted at this point.

Disanvantages p5 vs OP8PRO
1. SD 765 vs SD 865 ( way more powerful SoC on the 8pro)
2. FHD/90hz vs QHD/120hz
On all other aspects P5 is better ( software is the big advantage for the pixel5 , where Google is unbeatable)

3. camera sensor is butt old and lens is medicore - its all just software (which has its limits, that in my opinion already were reached 1-2 years ago, but some people always will disagree because they "like what they see and think the past equals the present and the future")
4. no telezoom lens, for thats quite a big negative no matter if it's just 2x or 5x optically there are many many situations that such a lens is usefull for anyone
5. these updates - are enforced, so you're constantly nagged and maybe at a time even forced ("auto updates") to take them even if you know they're unstable despite being marked as stable (and they were for months f.e. on the Pixel 3a - 9>10 and now again 10>11 - just google yourself ). That got worse on Android 10 and likely will on Android 11 and 12 (for the better or worse of it) ...
6. google support is horrible
as for 5+6 - some examples:
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/70324090?hl=en
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/69968712?hl=en
https://www.reddit.com/r/android_beta/comments/h0qznb/any_major_issues_so_far_on_android_11_beta/
https://www.gizchina.com/2020/09/26...sh-broken-multitasking-black-screen-flickers/
... and countless others if you search on Reddit. So yes there are downsides (!), especially regarding software (ironically).
Only buy when you can live with that (not saying it's unmanageable, just being honest).
Another example:
Android 11 made matters worse in that they don't allow apps to access storage outside of their domain. So naturally you're forced to Android 11 and get lots of apps that are now incompatible (Stable not Beta). That in itself isn't bad - what's happening is by using the Pixel-Line you're basically a Beta-Testers for Google. All other vendors may adapt slower, but also will have less bugs solved by the time it reaches you. If you can life with that it's fine. I rather don't do that anymore.
Also using their beta builds and release candidates go so far as destroying their phones in an unrecoverable state (and interestingly all searches on Google regarding that lead to nowhere now, but I know it was quite a big thing from 9>10 back then). Thanks to hardware encryption with the Titan M that will like be worse in the future ... I don't trust Google any longer to be honest. Which saddens me, because I'd still like the Pixel line to be better and ... in the end Adroid being more successfull. But for me Google is becoming really evil, that includes Guerillia Marketing, but that's just my personal opinion that I don't want to reflect here ...
