Restoring a TWRP backup - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

This is my first time with a Treble device. I made a TWRP backup of the stock firmware and flashed official LineageOS. I'd like to go back to stock.
Can I just restore the TWRP, or is there any additional steps I need to take?
Do I need to flash the "copy partitions" zip again?

I've yet to make a twrp due to lack of storage space on 32gb model. The copy partitions zip is only needed when going from stock rom to custom rom.

No sim card after twrp restore

I have a oneplus 3t and am on OOS 4.0.3 and decided to upgrade to OOS 5.0. I downloaded the ROM, took a backup and then clean wiped my phone. Then I tried installing the ROM but it failed. So I decided to restore my backup from USB OTG. While restore failed and it showed error 255 while restoring data, so I wiped again and then restored everything except data. The phone rebooted and everything is fine except the phone is not detecting my sim card. I have tried restoring again and rebooting but it didn't work. I am using twrp 3.1.1
Please give a solution or tell me which ROM version to flash to solve this problem.
Just follow this guide to get back to factory default. And then try OTA update with the default recovery instead of TWRP.
https://www.google.se/amp/s/forum.x...ck-unbrick-tutorial-oneplus-3t-t3515306/page1
You need a special TWRP in order to upgrade to Android Oreo. Just google for Oneplus3 Oreo TWRP and theres a OnePlus-Forum Thread where you can download the TWRP that is needed for the Oreo Upgrade. Your Backup should work without Problems after you installed Oreo
just install bluSpark TWRP v8.61 from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27655
and download official 5.0.1 ROM zip file from oneplus official site.
then you can proceed. You can use Magisk 15.3 after ROM installation for root access.
Make sure to reboot TWRP once after wiping everything from TWRP otherwise you may lose TWRP where stock recovery may take place.

Phone unable to flash custom rom ! help

After unlocked bootloader i installed twrp for installing for custom rom.
I follow all steps of flashing custom rom , gapps n all that from rom threads ,even by watching tutorial , it flashed properly showing in recovery ..but when i reboot to system phone stuck on mi logo.
i tried rom like Rr, dotos, coltos, lineage. But getting nothing.
Help me !!
Current using redmi 4x betarom
If you had followed the instructions on the XDA threads like you say then you must've been able to have a successful flash.
For flashing custom ROM:
1)Unlock Bootloader
2)Flash TWRP
3)Copy your downloaded ROM and Gapps zip to Internal storage OR SD card.
4)Boot into TWRP
5)Wipe System+Data+Cache+Dalvik
6)Flash ROM zip first and then Gapps secondly.
7)Wipe Cache+Dalvik.
8)Reboot.
If you followed these instructions in the exact same order and flashed a compatible ROM for your phone you shouldn't have any trouble in booting the ROM.
Next time try this:
Unlock bl
Boot into twrp
Format data
Restart and boot into twrp again by volume plus volume up. Format data again.
Now go to twrp home-settings-advanced-fix boot/disable verification and wait for few seconds.
Now unmount and mount data partition. Transfer rom zip file to internal memory by pc and install it. Its bound to work.
Check if system is mounted from TWRP recovery if not then enable it.
Also check if TWRP recovery is on latest version or not.(do backup everything if there is need of updating TWRP recovery)
I suggest you to use the pixel experience rom, it doesn't need gapps, just flash one zip file of the room itself

I'm using this and it's super fine

TWRP issue

so i installed TWRP recovery on my N950F/FD model, i want to flash mods or ROMs from internal storage, but it always shows like it's not mounted or its empty and nothing in it
but external SD works perfectly
any solutions ?
After installing TWRP you need to wipe data to remove encryption, then reboot back into TWRP. Internal storage will then be mountable. If you are not flashing a custom rom or root at this time, flash no verity before booting to system (and rmm state fix if you have OEM lock issue).
In addition, if you are on Oreo, you need to use TWRP updated for Oreo by kairi_zeroblade.

Here you go:
https://github.com/zeroblade1984/samsung_exynos8895/releases/tag/TWRP_OREO
Flash in TWRP. In case you have never updated TWRP in TWRP before..... select Install, then select Install Image, choose the img file, be sure to flash to Recovery partition when promted, then reboot back to TWRP & see if internal storage is mountable.

Bring light into the darkness of encryption

Hi togehter,
I had some problems with flashing new custom roms and ended up in a bootloop with not being able to boot to recovery. This could be solved by flashing the stock image with the xiaomi flash tool.
Before I will fu up again I would like to bring some light into the darkness.
When coming from Stock Rom:
1. Unlock Bootloader -> done successfully
2. Flashed TWRP Recovery -> done successfully but storage (data) was encrypted
3. Flashed Magisk via Recovery -> done successfully (storage still encrypted)
from here I was happy using the Stock Rom with Root.
Now I started messing things up:
Because there are a few things that bother me about the stock rom i wanted to use lineageOS/Pixel Experience. So I proceeded as following:
1. Backup my data (still have to enter key when starting twrp to decrypt the storage) -> done successfully
2. Flash LineageOS -> resulted in bootloop to TWRP
When entering twrp there was no query about the key and data where encrypted. Also the Backup was not accessible .
3. I used all in one tool to erase storage and decrypt data. -> successfully... Now i was able to place data on the internal storage again and start flashing a rom
4. Flashing LineageOS -> done successfully and able to boot into rom
Back to TWRP data was encrypted and I had to enter key.
5. Flashing remove force encryption script via twrp. -> done but now i was facing boot to black screen. TWRP was not working anymore.
Only way to get it work again, was flashing stock image.
Why is the data system always encrypted. This is rly annoying and backups don't work, because i can not encrypt them. Also, I can not put any files on the memory because it is encrypted.
I would rly like to try a custom rom, but I would also like to be able to go back to a backup. What have i done wrong?
You have to flash no dm verify right after formatting data & flashing rom. Don't let it boot.
I would recommend using the stock firmware. Los/AOSP is rubbish for our device, it's too unstable, lacking features and has worse gestures.

You need to format data (not just wipe data) in TWRP. Some people suggest before flashing a ROM and some say after, but I don't think it makes a great deal of difference either way.
Make sure you either flash the appropriate firmware and vendor recommended, or the fastboot ROM of that version.
Then in TWRP wipe cache and dalvik, then format data.
Reboot into TWRP, or unmount and mount the data partition in TWRP so it correctly reads the data partition.
Copy across the ROM (and GApps if needed)
Them flash.
Boot into the ROM and you should be good.
After initial setup, if you want root, boot into TWRP and flash Magisk.
From here, if you've set a pin on the ROM, you'll be encrypted, but everything should still work normally. You should be able to access everything normally in TWRP and also perform backups. You should be able to got data across from/to a PC normally.

Not true in many ways.
There is need to flash no dm verity. It's one way of solving the issue, but it's not the only way. You should only do this if you know what it's for and if you know you want this.
AOSP ROMs are not unstable. I've been using them on mine for over 4 months. None are perfect and they have a few minor issues/bugs, but they are far from being considered unstable. I've never had shutdowns, reboots or FC'S.
Thanks for the replies.

So for example with LineageOS 17 I can use the global vendor and firmware, but sometimes in the thread it is recommended to use chinese vendor and firmware. In this case I should flash another vendor and firmware then the global one.
What do you mean with a fastboot rom. How can I identify one of them?
Is the MiuiMix Rom a fastboot rom. This one changed my vendor and firmware. After flashing this rom, my bootlogo changed to redmi... Am i right with this suggestion?

Fastboot ROMs are official ROMs that are flashed through the Mi Flash Tool
, with the phone booted into fastboot mode and connected to the PC. They contains almost all partitions, including vendor and all firmware. They will be a .tgz file. They are mainly used as an almost failsafe way to recover the phone, should you mess things up. Flashing them will restore the phone to factory, so will lose TWRP, but you're guaranteed a clean starting point.
If, for example, you want to install Havoc 3, it is recommended to flash it on top of either China or India 10.4 vendor and firmware. So if you're phone is currently on global firmware, you would then need to flash, say, Chinese firmware and vendor flies, before flashing Havoc.
If you have been previously flashing other mods, such as 75Hz, screen refresh rate, for example, then you might choose to flash the official Chinese fastboot ROM, instead of just the firmware and vendor, to ensure that you've cleaned the phone of any mods, etc. In most cases you will be fine flashing firmware and vendor, though.
Miuimix is a custom ROM, which is based on the official China MIUI ROM. Because it's based on the China ROM this is why the logo changed to Redmi.

So in this case, i can just flash this rom and there is no need of flashing a diffrent vendor or firmware.
So final question: I'm happy with the stock rom plus root. I would like to try a custom rom but I'm not willing to go through the whole installtion procedure again. Is there a way of making a backup and keeping it?
When I backup the stock rom right now, the backup will ne encrypted again...When I formate the data, all my data will be gone again ?

How to restore the nandroid's backup on the note 9?

On my phones I have always used the backup's function offered by TWRP's recovery .
I've always been able to restore the nandroid's backups without any problems.
However, whenever I try to restore a backup on my Note 9, the phone always goes into bootloop.
I've never had this happen with my other phones (S3 and LG G5).
I wouldn't want to have to do other things to do a successful restore.
I can't restore a nandroid backup as well on my Note 9 exynos. I think it had something to do with force encryption of the phone.
I found in an XDA thread a zip to disable dm-verity and force encryption, flashable via twrp.
After successfully disabling ecryption of my Note 9, I was able to successfully restore a previous nandroid backup.

Thank you for your reply.
I mean, let me get a better understanding of what you did.
Did you first flash the "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt"'s zip and then restore the nandroid backup?
These are the steps I did, but not sure of the exact order:
1. Format data & reboot to Recovery
2. Flash rom (I'm using LOS 17.1 w/ microG) & reboot to Recovery
3. Flash magisk & reboot to Recovery
4. Flash the zip below
[Deprecated] Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disabler [11/2/2020]
Hi all! For the past couple of months, I've been looking into making a more universal solution to disable dm-verity and forceencrypt. Needing to take different zips, modify them for different devices, and then cross your fingers when you switch...
forum.xda-developers.com
5. Reboot to System, complete the start up of the new Rom and confirm that the phone is now decrypted.
6. Go to Recovery and restore my nandroid backup (I created this nandroid backup when my phone is already decrypted. I haven't tested restoring a previous backup with my still encrypted phone).
I successfully restored my nandroid backup finally. Before I always fail, giving me a hard time restoring my individual apps using TBackup or Migrate.

I already do all this when I install the new rom. So, my phone should be decrypted.
Then after some time I make a nandroid backup. However, when I go to restore the backup the phone goes into bootloop.
So, it means that with the restore the phone comes back encrypted again. That's why it goes into bootloop.
Before, I'm flashing the 'no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.zip' but always ended up encrypted after reboot. Only after I flashed 'disable_dm-verity_forceencrypt.zip' that my phone became decrypted, and perform a successful nandroid restore later. I'm using twrp 3.4.0.

If I understand correctly, before restoring a nandroid backup you flashed 'disable_dm-verity_forceencrypt.zip' and then did the restore.
Right?
