I updated to Pie DevBase to test it a bit, then to RomAur 4.0, didn't like it and now i'm trying to go back to Oreo using devbase 6.0 ARL3/4 or LightRom .zip's.
I cannot install ANY Oreo ROM anymore from TWRP. It will always say after installing can't mount new /system installation aborted.
I can flash a Pie .zip just fine tho like RomAur for example. No errors.
I got Oreo to install once by completely Odin flashing ARL4 onto my phone but then after i installed DevBase ARL4 once it failed again after that..
Wiping /system will let it mount but still errors as soon as I install a Oreo ROM.
I also flashed several different bootloaders and TWRP versions (the themed ones, the themeless one) and i have no idea where this is coming from...
Anyone got some tips? I mean, i can use my phone as any Pie ROM will flash just fine and so will an Odin flashed Oreo but i wanna use my custom Oreo ROM's...
Restoring a TWRP nandroid backup sometimes works but usually not. Also gives a /system error.

I saw that the 4.0 version of Oxygen OS was available with a full version to flash. I have finally recieved my OP3T today, got TWRP installed with supersu root as well. Will I ruin anything if I flash the new 4.0 nougat version? I haven't gotten xposed installed yet (wanted to check out DPI scaling on nougat first), will that be possible after flashing 4.0 as well?
thanks in advance, so excited about this phone!
Hi
You can flash the zip using TWRP. Just flash SuperSU afterwards. Xposed won't work.
I've done that now, got nougat working fine, with twrp and SuperSU but I can't get the dm-verity warning to go away. I've tried flashing the stock recovery and then reflashing twrp and superSU, but no luck so far
Can anyone help me with the steps to update to Android Oreo (OOS 5) from OOS 4.5.1 retaining root?
Below are the current setup of my phone
Rooted - Yes (Magisk version 14.0)
Recovery - TWRP version 3.1.1-2
Current Rom - Stock OOS 4.5.1
I haven't had any problems in updating earlier but now when I try to flash the full oreo rom from TWRP, I am getting error 7.
Below are the steps I followed.
Downloaded the full OTA zip.
Rebooted to recovery.
Unistalled Magisk.
Tried to flash the Oreo OTA zip. At this point TWRP showed error 7.
Reinstalled Magisk and rebooted to system.
Phone is working fine.
you need to use latest twrp for oreo, for example blue spark version, search for it on xda...
Follow this guide here:

It's exactly what you need.
All Oreo ROM threads clearly state under the "Instructions" heading, that you need either AkhilNarangs Modified TWRP or Blu_Sparks TWRP V50. Using stock TWRP would result in an error.
If the error may still persist, try flashing a different firmware.
Just to get some more clarity.
I have the original OTA full zip. Should I download the zip file from your thread?
Can I install the custom version of TWRP using the official TWRP app? I am bit confused on how to install it.
Is it important that I should use Magisk 14.3 or will v 14 have the same effect?
Hey there,
I can tell you how I have done it yesterday (successfully).
1. Update TWRP - I prefer blu sparks version 8.52 (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27225); you can do it by using your installed TWRP Version (Install .img)
2. Dirty flash OOS 4.5.1 again (to remove root / magisk) - once finished DO NOT reboot into system, reboot into Recovery/TWRP to verify the new version and afterwards to system
3. flash OOS 5.0 (Oreo) - dirty flash is okay
4. flash magisk Version 14.3
These are the steps I have followed yesterday and all is running perfect and without any problems.

Which recovery is mentioned in this linked discussion resp. in the linked download? Is it blu_spark TWRP?
Regards
Clark
This worked perfectly for me.
Glad to hear that everything is good ?
I did the same and I was suddenly encrypted and no chance to get my data back. Still forcing clean my phone because I cannot format the device. I get always an error message in TWRP like: unable to format to remove encryption
I go crazy...
Enter recovery and wipe data and then cache.
Then reflash the rom and probably you will be good to go.
Hi guys.
I had been on RR Oreo for quite a while and as I wasn't happy with battery endurance, I decided to go back to RR Nougat.
Initially, I just downloaded the zip and flashed it on the latest official TWRP 3.2.1.
The phone just bricked.
I then proceeded to flash Stock ZUI Nougat 3.1 with QFIL, flashed TWRP again and tried to flash RR Nougat. No way. Apparently /system was not properly mounting and I just got stuck on "flashing system" steps.
I tried to format data and system partitions, change them to ext2, ext3, f2fs and back on ext4, repaired the filesystem, wiped all /system, /data, /cache and /dalvik and nothing happened.
Actually, after rebooting to recovery, I noticed that I always got the "swipe for modifications menu" and /system could not be mounted. I could only apparently mount system after changing the partition type back and forth. However, it didn't seem to be really mounted in fact as everytime I tried to flash a ROM (being it RR, AEX or even custom-made stock ones), they got stuck and sometimes even bricked my phone again.
I also tried to flash Stock Marshmallow by QFIL to no avail...
This is a very strange issue...
After more than 10 years of flashing custom firmware, this absolutely never happened to me.
Can you be so kind and share some ideas on how to solve this?
Many thanks
Update: my phone is got now hard bricked while using stock marshmallow rom.
Please, can you still help me with the issue I shared above?
I will try to revive my device in the meanwhile.
Update 2: Phone is back on stock after I did a homemade deep flash cable and flashed stock nougat with qfil. Still looking for a way to flash custom roms

Try with twrp 3.2.1-0 . Go to twrp /wipe /format dataand type "yes" . It will erase all your data and internal memory . If still get brick you should install zui 1.9.104 by qfil and start all from beginning .

Thanks a lot for the tip, my friend.
I did the formatting of data that you refer, no luck.
Anyway, I would like to try to flash zui 1.9 as I tried so far with 2.1, 2.3, 3.1 and 3.5.
However, all the links I found so far to download the 1.9 are down. Can you let me know where I can download 1.9?
Many thanks

Watch out -Zui 1.9.104 will relock bootloader . After that install Zui 3.1.194 bu qfil , then unlock bootloader , install twrp 3.1.1-0 and install non-treble custom rom ( RR 5.8.4 for example )

Solved! Dziekuje
Hello, I have a problem with my Xiaomi Redmi 4X phone, as I said, I can not flash any Custom ROM for Android 8.1 All this happened after I put my phone in service to replace the display on which I've broken it. Now any version of Android 8.1 I try to flash results in a bootloop. I have to mention 3 things
1. In TWRP when flashing I noticed that all Custom ROMs are stuck in "Flashing system files ..." for a few seconds after saying that it ended flash-but did not abssolut anything.
2. Now a few hours I accidentally flashed Pixel Experince, but now I have the same problem.
3. I can not flash any versions of TWRP.Not much but...
THIS IS HAPPENING ONLY ON THE ANDROID OREO ROMs, Nougat ROMs works perfectlly
Try to flash first latest version of twrp or you can flash redwolf recovery then flash firmware v40 then try clean flash for oreo roms
As mentioned by above user...(latest TWRP recovery and firmware is must)
Flash latest TWRP recovery, 3.2.1-0 should be fine but there's update available 3.2.2.-0 so any will do.
Next, flash latest firmware.
Clean flash is must when changing OS.
It's most likely you don't have latest TWRP recovery and firmware.
Do backup first.
Issues trying to flash Oreo or pie ROMS. Before this issue started I was on RR Oreo I wanted to go back to Nougant because of the options to have more features/customizations. I ran Nougant for awhile and was wanting to go back to either a Oreo rom or Pie. I tried several times to flash RR Oreo also tried other Oreo and pie roms but I get error 7. After I got the error 7 I formated then tried again and it didn't work. I'm using the updated blunden twrp 15.1 I also tried the fstb blunden and no luck. I tried to flash the firmware that works with RR Oreo but twrp gives me file is corrupt and I know it's not I iv used that same file before. Any suggestions would be good and thanks.
Edit, I thought I had my issue fixed. I have twrp updated img installed, I did a backup of my current Oreo rom. I then wiped data because I wanted to try a different Oreo rom. I flashed the Oreo rom and got error 7,wtf I have formated I don't know how many times. I had to sideload the Oreo rom I had on before..
