I have a Kenwood stereo that does wireless android auto, in fact it worked great with my pixel 3. I thought that phones with Pie were going to have wireless AA but I can't get it too work with my s10
Anyone get it to work??

pie brought wireless AA too xenophobes if you have the right head unit. I upgraded to a Kenwood that has that feature and like I said it worked great with my pixel. Pie was supposed to bring it to non pixelnphones but it's not working for me.

Good to know. Wonder if my car will accept wireless.

I had an s8 that would auto connect to Android Auto....but now I have an s10e that won't auto connect....Any ideas??
Wireless AA is a power hog. You are basically running the WiFi like a hotspot non-stop, besides the navigation and whatnot (Spotify/Pandora).
If you want to be truly wireless, you better have a good Wireless Fast Charger in the car (and the phone to support it). Ah, and while wireless charging, the phone should be mounted in front of the AC vent, to cool off...
I think that only Pixel and Nexus phones are enabled for wireless AA (info as of March 2019), it's not all the Pie phones:

I have a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX and a Nexus 6P, and have been enjoying Android Auto so far. I'm looking into getting into OBD-2 units and had a couple questions. Some of these are probably pretty basic, but I couldn't find anything explicit on Google, so:
1. Are there OBD2 apps (like Torque, etc) that work on Android Auto? By "work" I suppose I mean apps that have a GUI that appears and is accessible on my 4100NEX head unit.
2. When I have my Nexus connected to my 4100NEX via USB, it disconnects the Bluetooth connection between my 4100NEX and phone. This won't also prevent bluetooth connection between my phone and the OBD2 device, right?
3. What are some recommendations for OBD2 devices? I was looking at the OBDLink LX, but wondered if people had better luck with other devices with this configuration.
Thanks!
Looking for answer too.

1. Yes, most of them working.
2. I am using WiFi obd2 device.
I think that mrtnb is responding about android head units, not android auto.
I don't think there are any obd apps working on android auto yet. Hoping that they will be updated to support it soon though.
when i connect android auto, bluetooth audio does indeed disconnect.
other devices (smart watch) keeps connected, so this shouldn't be a problem
It's now possible, see here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an.../app-obd2-plugin-android-auto-torque-t3657805
Thank you Emil !
Hi,
Anyone has some information about Android Auto Wireless?
Pioneer presented the first AA wireless headunit 2 weeks ago.
I think VW Discover Pro MIB2 with latest FW can support AA wireless as there are some codings for this .
Is there an new version from AA for wireless support ?
There is no such option in the latest APK on play store
Interested about news and reviews on wireless Android auto units...I read all the news / press release and see few videos of the units but we have to wait until March / April for release...
I emailed Kenwood about theirs, but they just said they did not have a release date available yet
This looks legit.
Can someone with a Nexus or Pixel confirm this?

Looks like today's update from the play store has it.. if you don't see the update, you can get the latest version from apkmirror.

afaik the HU will require Wi-fi for wireless android auto.
I can confirm that the Discover Media MIB2 with Navigation (I have one in my 2017 Tiguan MK2) has Wifi built in, and the headunit coding does have options for both wireless Car Play and Wireless Android Auto. However, these are both SWaP (Software As Product) functions so need activation codes from VW to enable.
I have successfully enable WiFi on my head-unit, but there isn't much you can do with it since all the connected features require VW CarNet, which isn't available in New Zealand.
Currently using the jvc kw-m845bw that supports Wireless Android auto. Currently driving right now with the wireless Android auto working. It's a nice feature, but it would be much nicer if carstream worked on it.

Hi, @rester555
Could you please let me know, how phone and car are connected? Bluetooth or wi-fi? How AA is started? Are you starting manually?
So, wireless thing is new for me, that is why asking?
Thanks in advance.

@henno88 Sorry for the late post. So when I connect my car it seems to be handshaking on bluetooth and wifi when the head unit is connected. I think when I make calls it's connected to bluetooth, but when I activate Android Auto, it's connected via wifi. I am driving a 2013 ford focus with the JVC KW-M845BW. For my phone, I am using the Pixel 2 XL unlocked variant.

To everyone here. Carstream also allows you to play youtube videos on the Android Auto as well now with version 2.0.
Tried to apply "How To use Android Auto Wireless!" but is halted
Hi
Sorry if I mess threads and things up, but I don't know where to stage my question???
I have followed the instructions in xda video "How To use Android Auto Wireless!" on Youtube and I have a question on one of the stages.
At one point I get a screen where I can choose on "Toggle Wifi on Power" among other things, and the video doesn't tell me what to do. There are no OK button or equivalent.
I can't post a pic or link to pic while I'm new here.

Replying to an old post, I know, but has there been any development on using the Discover Media built-in WiFi with wireless Android Auto? I have enabled WiFi in my Mk7 Golf and find that it is similarly useless in Australia - can't even stream music. Wireless AA would be absolutely awesome.
Can anyone confirm as to whether or not android auto wireless is available on the note 9?
If so, are there any problems you've noticed with it?
What head units are you connecting it to, and what is your overall opinion about it's performance?
I just tried it on my Pioneer 4400nex and it didn't work. Is it supposed to work? Maybe I'm missing a setting or something. I know I read that it can work with oreo but the oems would have make it work through a software update.
I tried it on my Kenwood that worked flawlessly with my pixel 2XL and it's a no go. I was crossing my fingers it would've been enabled. Waiting now for Android Pie
Does anyone know if a 2017 Buick Encore head unit will support wireless Android Auto? It has wifi...
My Galaxy S9 Android Auto has an option to enable wireless projection but it will not connect to the head unit.

Read the manual for your car. Look in the multimedia section in the characteristics of the head unit for support Android Auto Wireles. But I'm 99% sure that your car does not support.

Yes, I'm sure also that the head unit does not currently support wireless AA. I guess I'm wondering if a software/firmware update of the head unit from Buick could eventually enable wireless AA, or is that not how this works?
It's a difficult question. If head unit is built-in WiFi, then this can be solved with the new firmware. However, manufacturers are very reluctant to support media devices.

From that article it sounds like there's more involved than just a head unit firmware update. In particular, I believe my car only has a single band WiFi connection as I only get 2.4ghz and not 5ghz. If the article is accurate then that would mean there's no hope for my car. Bummer. Oh well...
I'm trying to find out if this will work with a native headunit (Skoda Karoq) so the car supports wireless AA , but I'm unclear if the phone will, I've heard the S22 had issues for some time until Samsung fixed it, anyone running wireless AA natively know?

Awesome, thanks, I didn't really want to have to go to wired or a dongle.
Same, I'm running it on a 2022 VW Polo. Also has native wireless AA, and it's great.
Had some issues with randomly disconnecting when I just got the car, but after a few months that has been fixed and it's never happened to me throughout the last 8 months or so.
Your phone does get tremendously hot when wirelessly charging though, so I recommend still charging with a cable to save the battery somewhat.
