better than S10 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Guides, News, & Discussion

It seems S8 is better than S9 and S10. Wooo WTF!!! Really? https://youtu.be/1imPqoOC8JE

Jesus that was like pulling teeth

That was really painful to watch.

Jesus Christ

One big LMAO. That does not make the s8 better than the s9 + s10. Also i would never take the review of someone with 2 subs as anything concrete especially with your post stating what it does due to a very little issue

Wait for Note 9 or buy now?

I really want the Note. Almost bought the 7 before I moved across the world, then all that happened. Been waiting and waiting.. but the fingerprint reader location and speaker quality is a no go for me..
Even if all they do in the note 9 is move the fingerprint reader to the front and improve the speakers then I probably want to wait for the 9.
Fingerprint reader to front
Better speaker(s)
Think the will?
S9 leaks are not giving me much hope.
No word about some things like camera and speakers yet but the fingerprint reader is just as bad as S8. Just as curved screen. Barely anything..
you want to wait 9 months?
thought the leaks put the scanner under the camera in the middle of the phonr?
They haven't done it yet, but who knows what might come in the future...at this point it's really just a guess. If those features are truly deal breakers then I guess the answer is to wait for now, but then again no guarantee they will be there in Note 9 either... at least as of now, as far as I know... . Note 8 is still a great phone imo, but features mean different things to different people of course.

Really?? Do you want to wait for note 9? I think the next Galaxy Note can be Note X!
I recommend you to buy the note 8 now, and later when the note 9 is released, trade your old note 8 for the new one..
Oh, Note 8 is AWESOME, buy it NOW!!

The leaks are for the S9 moving scanner to under the camera.
It's widely hoped/believed that Note 9 will have it in the display but nothing for sure yet.
I will wait for sure if the phone is a compromise in too many ways.
No need to spend money on something better in some ways and more difficult to use in others.
It should be all around better. Ideally...
Yes. You can sell used or trade in but the fact is still you spent $400-$500 that year for what?

Mate, you can wait for the Note 9, but when it comes out the rumours are the Note 10 will be absolutely kick-a$$.. Gonna wait again...
Technology moves so fast that if you wait for the next best thing you'll end up with nothing...
Any rumours you hear about the Note 9 are just that, rumours... Things change in the blink of an eye and so do the specs on the smart phones not yet released....

There have been Zero leaks or rumors about the S10 or the Note 10.
I speak to a few parts insiders each month and there is not much new info.
It's not one of those.. the back fingerprint reader is terrible. The move back to front would be worth the wait of 9 more months.

That is for the s9. Hopefully the Note 9 will have it where the home button is.
Anyway, for the S9 it looks really similar to the S8, s8 Plus except the finger print scanner is set up slightly different in the back. Otherwise the phone basically looks just like the s8 and will have a newer processor. Otherwise looks like nothing much different on the s9 versus the Note 8. If you have a Note 8 I wouldn't upgrade to the s9. People with the s8 might hold off too.

If they don't even improve the speakers or add some form of dual speakers it really will just be a processor bump.
Not very compelling.
But if the Note 9 puts the scanner under the screen and improves the speakers that will be a very big change.
Just get a V30 and be happy. I got one for my girl and she loves it. The screen is great , speakers are alot better (quad dac also) and the buttons seem to be on a place you would like. I pretty much bet Samsung will never fix audio , and who knows where the fingerprint reader will be. Might as well be happy with your phone, not sure why you would want a phone that doesn't have what you want on it.

I don't think you get the point....
Every new phone will be awesome in the first week of release, then come the nitpicks.
You either bite the bullet at some time or will be window shopping from now to eternity, there is always gonna be a bigger better piece of hardware as tech doesn't (generally) de-evolve and there will always be something that will annoy...
That's the human condition, to never be satisfied for long...
Anyway, your choice....
If you wait for the Note 9 then you can wait for the Note 10 or 11.
Do what a normal person would do and buy them all.

V30 is a great phone. Shocker from lg.
Just the screen issues, camera isn't quite right and I want the pen.
If it was 3t price it would help it a lot.
Was really hoping Huawei would nail the mate 10 but they messed it up big time with the too hot, too cold models. Their prices are always too high too.
When Samsung flagships starts to come down in price a few months after release it's hard to see the point in buying anything else.
Can get a note 8 for 720, V30 for 850, mate 10 pro for $850. I'll take the note..

I don't think every new phone is awesome. Many aren't worth "upgrading".
So yeah. There is a good time and phone to buy. Keeping phones for 2-3 years is smart. Especially as we are hitting the 1k level. The cost of "upgrade"itus keeps getting higher.
Our phones have become too addictive. Many aren't being sensible.

If they can improve it enough they might drop the fp reader alltogether.

Guys,
I had just quick play with s10+ in Samsung shop and I am little bit disappointed.
I've moved from S7Edge to 1+ for just one reason- smoothness.
3 models up and... When you swipe up on S10+ to go to home there is still a lag.
When you swipe left side to see all apps it drops frames like crazy. I never seen this on oneplus.
Do you recon this can be fixed? Sorry very nice hardware just obviously Samsung doesn't care about small details. I've ordered one but I am just about to cancel it.
S10 in shops are more like dummies than actual phones - i checked one in CW here in London had had the screen cracked and showing 6gb RAM
so i wouldnt base my purchase decision on how those phones behave
No lag on the SD855 models, even the retail S10e was flawless. Bigger siblings can keep 15+ apps in memory without missing a beat.

just sd855 is for US only. I've just checked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgRnbm9wrzg and looks like exynos 9820 is even worse than sd845.

same as you hear , i got irritated by every stutter the phone makes or jerkiness in anything ,
it seems i have to look more now towards the MI 9 , as i tried the MI 8 with SD 845 and it was the fastest android phone i ever tested with no stutters at all , not even once.

Talk Me Off The OP7P Edge!!!

I've been a Note Officianado for YEARS...and suddenly I'm being tempted by the One Plus 7 Pro 5G as a possible replacement!! I feel so guilty for even THINKING it...but I can't seem to shake that nudge of curiosity and temptation to have that "next new thing"! Somebody please talk me down. Tell me I'm insane for entertaining the sacrilegious notion of leaving the Note Family! TALK ME OFF THE LEDGE!!!
Give it a shot. If you're like me you'll come back at some point anyway (see my signature). Nothing bad in giving other manufacturers a shot from time to time, it's a good opportunity to understand where Samsung is lacking/needs improvement, and to realize all the things they get right and the Samsung features you're missing
I'm not a OnePlus fan, but the 7 Pro seems to be a pretty great device. They finally seem to take care and give importance to the small details and refinement their phones were lacking in the past imho (finally a great display, a better vibration motor, better build quality, the cameras seem better too, etc.)
If you really need a reason to not switch: The Note 10 will be an even better phone when it launches this fall

DITTO that...look out and hold out for the Note 10 rather...
S-Pen. That's the number 1 difference-maker for me. As far as a daily phone goes. It's always going to be a Note. Using an S-Pen to interact with my display has always been the most efficient and fastest way.
Im in the same boat after watching the reveal of the OP7P. The only reason i womt switch is because i know i will definitely going back to get the Note 10. The camera is essential and it still looks like the OP7P isnt better then the Note 9 camera.
I watched the launch, got all excited, then found out it doesn't have wireless charging and it's not waterproof rated!
Can anyone else say, DEAL BREAKER?!?!

IIRC OnePlus were avoiding getting it rated because of the costs involved, but were still going to make it waterproof anyway.

YouTube videos have hyped you up! How is it better than a Note 9? Only the screen's 90 Hz refresh and fills more space. Compared to the Note, screen is not as bright and run-time between battery charges is terrible! Then there is no wireless charging or waterproof. If you have come to like a lot of the features you get with a Samsung UI/apps, you will lose that too.... and no s-pen. You won't get Dark Mode until Android Q, while Samsung OneUI is doing integrated themes now. The Note 9 is about $635 right now, so the OPSP is not cheaper either.
Op7p has most of N9 problems such as curved screen, mediocre battery life and average camera. It also lacks some good N9 features such as headphone jack, wireless charging or spen. I doesn't make sense to swap unless you are bored and just want a new toy.

Not gonna lie normally I go for the latest tech. But nothing in the op7pro or even the s10plus makes me want to leave my beautiful device. And I shall be honest not even the note 10 will make me want to upgrade. Don't see the point no more. If it is working why break it.
No notification LED! That killed it for me!

This will be my last Samsung for a while

Ah yes, the Note 20 Ultra will be my last in a long line of Samsung phone ownership. I'm just not satisfied with this product. That's not to say it's a bad phone but there are other tempting, albeit less expensive options available nowadays. I was happier with the Note 10+. I'm not impressed with the Note 20's cameras the 108mp camera makes no noticeable difference. The large sensor is great but it tends to blur the edges of the object in focus quite frequently. I can't take a selfie without my teeth, which are white, looking like a stick of butter. Battery life is not impressive at all. Basically, there is nothing that justifies the the price I paid for this device and I wish I stuck with my Note 10+.
Fully agree.
The price tag (even if I did not pay for that phone) is insane for that device:
Camera? Lol. Quality not impressive and the 50x zoom garbage produces very nice "Pixel arts" composition. Oops sorry I think I used the word "quality" in that sentence, surely inappropriate in that context.
Battery? lol. I am barely using the phone, it hardly lasts from morning to evening, then battery almost empty
Apps? Junkware? My phone is/was full of links to paying craps from Samsung
The bulge? the weight? Recipe for disaster.
The headphones? The wireless charge? Oh wait, those are extra to be paid separately...
The fingerprint sensor on the screen? lol. Prevents me from using my phone regularly. Rubbish.
CPU oh let's remind that I don't have the same as international, I have the exynox junk.
Samsung junk to "protect" (their business) and lock your phone, so you don't remove their junkwares.
I don't see what that device has more than devices costing 25% of the asking price.
Good experience, it will save me (my own) money for future purchases.
The device is only worth it ( for me anyways ) when heavily discounted via trade in. Otherwise , there's no way in it's worth $1399 plus tax , that's for sure.
I had a brief run with a OnePlus 8 Pro, 799$ black Friday deal, and that was a better value choice over all. However, if one doesn't intend to root then it can be a rather boring device.
I heard that in another brilliant Apple like move that Sammy will not include chargers bundled with their phones.
Samsung Galaxy S21 now looks likely to come without a charger, like the iPhone 12
Samsung may follow Apple's lead
www.google.com
A Green move designed to steal more of your green... naturally.
Sammy, you've changed, but I'm not seeing rainbows... I'm seeing red.
The exynos version is a bad phone... The snapdragon is better but also doesnt worth 1400$ or €. With worldwide snapdragon for 699-799€ for the ultra would have been an amazing deal...
I'm quite happy, the IQ from the main camera is better than my Note 9 by quite a stretch, and the IQ holds up well in this camera shootout (see GSMArena's camera shootout between Mate 40 Pro, iPhone 12 pro max, Sony Xperia 1 MkII and Note 20 Ultra).
Its well built, I have the exynos version and I'm getting through 2 to 3 days between charges with 7 to 8 hrs SoT. I did debloat a bit but have all the original functionality, dont have it in 5G mode as this does eat battery (Dont have 5g here yet), use wifi 90% of time so phone data is off. I have no issues with fingerprint scanner, works well.

The really funny part is Samsung can't handle criticism. If you ever talked to a SK based Samsung rep you'll see what I mean. I enjoy drilling into them immensely. Some of that is cultural and the rest is poor training.

Well politely to them would be to beat around the bush and never get anything resolved or escalated. If you consider the same rep asking you the same questions 2 even 3 times then yes, yes it's a quit pleasant and polite conversation.
However if on the other hand you tend to be assertive like me, it's the stuff of nightmares for a mealy mouth SK rep. You can feel their bp rising; that's the most satisfaction you're likely to get.
I would rather talk to the wall...
Samsung has the worst customer support of any large corporation I have dealt with extensively.
Worse than Toshiba even Sony... Samsung is that bad, #10.

Yes their customer service is wretched! I needed damage repaired on my S6 tablet. I bought the accidental damage protection plan with my tablet on Shop Samsung's website. Samsung took almost 3 weeks to fix it and kept saying I had not paid for accidental damage coverage. Needless to say after spending a stupid amount of time 2 to 3 times a week on the phone I finally got it covered and got it back only to find it now glitches and crashes and has horrible battery life now. Adieu to S21 Ultra

Comrades, the time has come to bid my adieu to this wonderful group. It's been great while I was hear and I got to learn a lot. I have moved on to the S23 Ultra especially since I got a really good value from my credit card+trade-in. I wish all the members here all the very best. If anyone here's already in the S23 camp, please give me a shout!
Take care and good luck!

24 hours into the new device, I can confidently say you will not miss the S21 Ultra! The OS is literally the same; if there's anything noticeable, it's the speed at which apps open (thanks to UFS 4.1). But I won't be hopeful about this because as the OS matures this speed would be inversely correlated! Yes, of course the camera is a different league but the damn shutter lag is annoying. I hope this gets fixed in an OS update! But, honestly, would you really notice that much of a difference on a phone's screen? I don't think so. Both S21U and S23U are WQHD+ resolution and almost the same size. Unless you really squint hard, it's impossible to notice a huge difference in a single glance.
My humble suggestion, hang on to your S21U as long as your battery holds out. You are not going to much much on the S23U camp!

Thanks for this man! Interesting to hear you say the camera is in a different league... really makes me want to demo one.
I love the camera on the s21 Ultra, but imo the iphone still has the edge in "point & shoot." If I take the time to set up the shot with the s21, I feel like I can match or beat the iphone, but holy hell it can be discouraging seeing the pictures teens take with their iphones just pointing and shooting on the fly. "YOU TOOK THIS?!?!?! You're like TWO. WTF"

You just reaffirmed my point. iPhone 12 is the best point-and-shoot device compared to S21U while S21U wins on all technicalities. This goes back to my point that how much can be discerned on a 6-inch screen!
As one who tests every new flagship, I have to say the S21 Ultra has held it's own very well, especially the 512 GB model with 16 GB RAM. Unless you absolutely need the latest and greatest, stick with the S21 Ultra. The vibration motor and speakers outclass the S22 Ultra at least.
