This is a S10+. They messed up the order with telling me they would send me out a tempered glass, but they did not. Buds did not show, and is expected to show by end of month, and sailes said i would have access to 5g when it's available (not that i believed her)....but traveling for aprox 200 miles today on the highway, I noticed when getting through Fort Lauderdale, I was showing 5Ge! Was it really? Was it just an error? But the phone would bounce from 4glte to 5g and 5ge. Very interesting.....
5Ge is att's fake as hell 5G. Its basically LTE, thats why tmobile and spring have been making fun of att. I live in Orlando and get the little 5Ge icon as well.
Do you have any pictures of the phone showing the 5G icon?

Well Jacksonville has 5G I believe but it would ne interesting as hell since I wasn't aware the S10 supported 5G and they haven't released their 5G phone yet.
My phone now shows 5Ge this is not true 5G its just a bit faster then 4G LTE. That why sprint is sueing At&t for misleading its customers. Its pretty simple 5G is not a software update its an actual technology inside the phone and no phone is out atm with 5G antenas.

In some markets AT&T is changing the 4G LTE signal display to show 5Ge instead. It will be on compatible phones in markets where they have deployed 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM and other advanced LTE network technologies.
It also makes them look like they are leading the pack with 5G rollout.

PLEASE only respond if you live in the US and use T-Mobile (preferred) or AT&T AND have purchased the US version of the XP.................
Not sure if the US Xperia X Performance has been made available yet, but if so, can anyone tell me if it can get VoLTE on either T-Mobile or AT&T? Just wonder if radio/signal-wise it's any different than the int'l XP I have now.
Thanks!
what is the model of the intl version? we can lookup the whitepaper on them and compare the radios

Same model #s: F8132 for dual SIM (mine), F8131 for single-SIM.
they're the exact same radio according to Sony. so hardware wise if intl can do it so can us version. but do the carriers allow it is a whole other issue.

Ok thanks for checking acme! Well the XP has all the same bands as T-Mobile, so they should! Though I found out that XPs used in other countries like Hong Kong DO get VoLTE (I've seen screenshots too), but in the US, both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM cards don't enable that. Weird! I'd still like someone WITH a US XP to confirm that they do or don't have VoLTE though on AT&T and/or T-Mobile.
Yeah like today I was in downtown Chicago with family, and like my parents have the Sony Xperia Z1s (locked phone from T-Mobile). We were down by Navy Pier (by Lake Michigan), and my dad's Z1s (released Jan 2014) was getting better reception than my brand new int'l XP (unlocked not through T-Mobile but from Sony b/c Sony are idiots who don't release phones through carriers anymore and I hate them for it lol).
Now, I thought this was maybe b/c their phones were from T-Mobile so they'd been "configured" to their network, but then my sister's b/f was saying that some of the older model phones have better radio reception than the newer ones b/c the newer ones have more crap CRAMMED into them, which can impede radio reception, despite the XP having a polycarbonate (aka plastic lol) frame which is supposed give you better reception than metal would.
You think that's it? Or do you think it has something to do with the XP not being "configured" by T-Mobile??
Thanks.

i'd bet money it has something to do with a configuration. If Sony already designed a phone where all the radios work why would they break it in later iterations, doesn't make sense. it's also illegal to say the phone can do this and that when it actually can't.

Ok then how do I reconfigure it? lol If it was that the radio was just better/stronger on the Z1s that's one thing, but if it was that my XP somehow wasn't configured "well enough" to T-Mobile's network, despite having all the same bands, then how do I fix that? lol
It could be that the phones are designed a certain way but then the carriers (when they get them to sell) do some extra configuring or tweaking too?
I remember being again in another part of downtown 2 years ago and 2 friends of mine who both had Sprint and the same phone (Galaxy S3) had differing reception. One had all 5 bars lit up, while the other who was only sitting 5 feet away, had like no reception. WTF? lol That's what happened yest except 2 different phones though both are Sony, oh and mine of course is unlocked int'l version.

Sov,
Yeah I know. All I REALLY care about is that I can get Band 12 for data from T-Mobile on my int'l Sony Xperia X Performance phone. I think I can, b/c that has NOTHING to do with VoLTE, which only is used DURING phone calls. I don't care about having Band 12 during phone calls, but I DO care about having it when not on a call.

Haha..........so you have the int'l Sony Xperia X Perf on T-Mobile AND live in the U.S.??? Or know someone that does?
Well I live in Chicago which right now doesn't have Band 12 from T-Mobile. HOWEVER, a few mos ago T-Mobile bought a ton of Band 12 from an AT&T subsidiary, and so now it's only a matter of time before my entire area gets it (pending FCC approval). They say it could be as early as later this year or latest is prob next June. I'll know when it's available b/c T-Mobile will announce but I can also check their spectrum map too. When the area covered by the green circle around Chicago becomes "magenta" and has a bunch of circled 12s put into it, then that'll mean it's live. Can't wait!!

Oh wow! That's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have T-Mobile too though????!
I just wanna be able to get reception (data) in certain areas in downtown like at the Ogilvie Metra Station basement, Untitled club on Kinzie, etc. I'm hoping that Band 12/700 MHz will make that happen. But also for when I'm indoors in certain places in the suburbs.
Thanks for sharing this great info!! I figured it would but wasn't sure. I think the ppl who said no were thinking of VoLTE, or aka having 4G LTE data and/or voice DURING calls.

Hi,
I bought the mentioned model online and using FIDO sim Card. I have moved from Canadian S8+. Note 8 shows data connection as "4G" (as against LTE of S8+) and I am getting 4 signal bars instead of 5. I am not noticing any signal drops or slow internet speeds though. I am just wondering if this is something i need to worry about. I still have the option to return the phone. If this is a serious issue, I would rather return the phone and buy a Canadian model. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi, I think some (or maybe all?) of the international models simply show the 4G icon instead of the usual LTE icon that we're used to. Someone could correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's normal.
For the reception: could it just be 4 bars due to your location, or has it been consistently lower than expected in different places too? If it's persisting then you could check which bands are supported on that model versus the ones used by Fido. Might just be bad reception in your area too...hard to say.
True 4G on INT models is same as LTE. Im using same phone and network, no issues.
Can second this.
Ask your Carrier to confirm your IMEI on their end and refresh (provision) your SIM.
Before I only received 4G on my Exynos but after the refresh, I now get 4G+.

good to know that.thanks! looks like the 4g/lte icon issue is more of a cosmetic thing but doesnt really effect data speeds.
However, I am very sure signal bars a consistently lower than S8+. I hardly see Note 8 getting all bars unless I am out on roads, not the case with S8. how about you?

yeah the bars are consistently low but didn't notice any drop in quality. Funny thing is only after getting this phone I realized how rarely we use these devices for actual phone calls anymore! Today whole day I didnt get any phone call from anyone, only tons of messages on various apps. I finally had to call myself from my desk phone!

I should note, and I failed too, that I do receive 4G+ but usually in larger areas. I live in a small city of 15, 000 and sometimes catch 4G+. If I'm in a much denser populous, I always get 4G+ (except when I'm on a call; it switches to 3G or HSPA depending on which SIM is in).
Case in point, was in Toronto this past weekend and had 4G+ all weekend long.

I am planning to purchase an S20 FE direct from Samsung. I am on Xfinity Mobile (Verizon MVNO). Xfinity now offers 5G. I usually purchase unlocked phones but not sure if this will work.
1. If I want 5g will I need to purchase the Verizon model?
2. Will I be able to use the Verizon "variant" on Xfinity without ever activating on Verizon?
I asked Samsung, Xfinity and Verizon and no accurate or definitive response.
Xfinity:"You need to purchase your phone from us", I am currently using unlocked S9 Plus not purchased from them
Samsung: "Verizon phones only work on Verizon and will not work on any other carrier" (agent did not know what an MVNO was)
Verizon: "All Verizon phones are sim-unlocked but you cannot use a Verizon phone on Xfinity because it will be network locked"
Thank You in advance for helpful replies.
If I'm not mistaken when you try to purchase Verizon phone you will need to have account at Verizon ..it will ask to login to verify existing user ...a d must activate on Verizon ... I'm also thinking their version phone has different 5G capabilities not 100 % sure though View attachment 5105831

Ok, Thanks, I never got that far on shop.samsung or I would not have asked the question, seems kind of moot now.
I did understand that Verizon variant of S20FE is mmWave. That is what Xfinity Mobile uses for 5G (Verizon towers) and why I wanted Verizon variant.
Seems the bottom line is I can't buy the Verizon variant without a Verizon account and the unlocked variant is 4G only on Xfinity... kind of deflates the value for me.

You wanting the 5G for future proof? Right now 5G you would be lucky if you found a good spot ...I'm on Verizon passed on their version and went unlocked ..
Yes, that is good point and same conclusion I came too. I figured Sammy was going to give me $350 for my s9+ it so for around $350 out of pocket I could get a decent phone that would last me another 2 years. I wanted mmWave 5G for future proof but I think even Verizon will have to build out sub-6 network eventually if I read correctly. I just looked at Vzw 5G map and it is not "34 Cities" as they claim, it is more like a few neighborhoods each in 34 cities.

I'm in NY and I don't get excited for the few blocks of 5G..by the time we really need it we'll make back on another phone...good choice man...
So I just confirmed with Google themselves (both a customer service rep AND her supervisor) that the unlocked Pixel 5 WILL have ALL versions of 5G at launch in the U.S., not just Sub-6. It says "coming soon", but this only refers to the fact that not every city has mmWave in T-Mobile's network just yet (only 6 cities do, so far). It's misleading, and I let them know they should change that. So then I am sure that the Verizon version will have Sub-6 at launch as well after finding all that out.
This chart gives more details. I would HIGHLY ADVISE ignoring the "coming soon" parts. Just make sure your carrier offers 5G and that it's CURRENTLY available in your area. Me for example, I'm in the Chicago area. While Verizon has 5G (in downtown, of course lol), T-Mobile doesn't...........YET.
It's nice to know that the Pixel 5 will offer FULL 5G (aka, all THREE versions) at launch, where its main competitors do not.
Still waiting to find out if Spectrum mobile will allow the P5 on its network. Got no answers yet.

Hum, I just flash the Verizon specific November update. I don't exactly see extra 5G option in the cell data network settings. The preferred network type is still
Global
LTE/CDMA
LTE/GSM/UMTS
I'm on Global.

You won't see anything different from that, leave it on Global. There is no 5g option.
I get about 75mbps down, 45mbps upload with 5g. about double of LTE. but you have to have clear signal, I live in a mountainous area so its not consistent
I was getting 100-130Mbs down and 20Mbs up 2 weeks ago when I go out to a region I know have better cell reception than my house. I just updated the Verizon specific and getting 46Mbs down and 16.8Mbs up. Last week it was 84.9Mbs down and 22.9 Mbs up. So my area is somewhat inconsistent in terms of speed.
Inside my house I get about 81mbps down and 5 up. I'm about a mile from the nearest tower but I'm not sure why my upload speed suffers so much.
If I do not have a 5g plan with Verizon, do I need to do something specific to disable 5g on my phone? I keep reading things about it hurting battery life and if I don't even have the service I'd like to disable it if posisble.

No not dumb at all. I was under a false impression as well that I would just get it but then I found out first, I needed a 5G sim, (still not sure about that one) but when I looked on my plan it was an older 4G plan and I had to pay an extra $5 to get on the 5G Nationwide plan along with the high octane 5G which is not even close to where I live. Not sure about battery drain yet but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Uhhh, no. Since 5g is included with all new plans then the OP very possibly does have it. If they want to disable it they would need to go into network settings and change the network type from Global to LTE.

That's normal, even Verizon says that it won't be much faster and in some areas it will actually be slower than LTE. Their 5g is a work in progress. The only real 5g speed you'd see would be if you're in one of the select cities that offer UWB and you're sitting under the antenna.
Interesting, I have no 5G plan but still get a 5G icon. I suspect they are lying. Network Signal Info reports it using the AWS-3 LTE band.
