Has anyone figured out how to automatically turn off WiFi when there is no connection?
Not through Bixby routines, but you can do this from Settings.
Settings - Connections - Wi-Fi - (click 3-dot menu) Advanced - Switch To Mobile Data.

But does that actually turn off WiFi? It sounds like it just switches to data but doesn't turn off WiFi.
I know you're taking automation...but have you tried to set up a Bixby routine like "leave work" or "leave home" and have it turn off wifi when you go. Then an "I'm home" to turn back on
when when arrive at home...or whatever other location you're trying to do this from?
I know you're trying to stick to what's already in the phone with Bixby, but...it's worth to mention
"If this, then that" IFTTT, is one way to be able to IFTTT.
Tasker is another option.
There's also Smart Wifi Toggler.

Hmm, good point.
so you can do: if "Wifi Signal Strength" less than x%" then "turn off wifi" within Bixby
or there is the plain old
"Switch to mobile data" in the adaptive wifi settings - "switch to mobile data whenever your wifi internet connect is slow or unstable"

Thanks for the tip however there isn't a "turn off wifi" available on the "then" screen.

LOL, and so continues the mysteries of Bixby. There must be someone really high up in the company hierarchy that loves Bixby or else by now it would have been discarded beside the road like an empty beer can.

Ha! You need to add on the "if" section, the "place" and then it will show the WiFi in the actions lost. Then go back and remove the "place" variable!

If you include WiFi in the "if" it doesn't offer WiFi in the "then"
--obviously it won't be able to continue to monitor wifi strength after you have turned it off--
But it does work using tips above...
I only use Wi-Fi at home so just setting up the routine for if I'm home, Wi-Fi turns on. If I leave home, it turns it back off. I suppose you could set up multiple routines with different places marked but we shouldn't have to do that

I have tried but no luck. The routine has been set (I added 5% as WiFi strength) but never triggered. I have changed it now to 15% and will try again.

Use inverse logic. (it might be good for you):
turn off the wifi!

if home then wifi on
if XXX then wifi on
This is only good if you know where you want to use the WIFI.

On my TX, I noticed this setting and it sounds handy, but I am not sure that when I have it enabled in the Settings, that I should also have my WiFi (in the "main settings" page) On or Off? It sounds like a stupid question, isn't it? Well, I mean if Location-Based WiFi setting turns WiFi on or off automatically, then does it still turn on even if I have WiFi turned off (and no WiFi logo showing in notifications?
In other words, I can see that Location-Based WiFi is on (in notification bar) whether or not WiFi is on or off. So that does that mean it is independent of the WiFi setting?

Good question, I'm intrigued too! I believe the way to do it is to have WiFi on when you activate it, but after that I am not sure. Google search should help, you could also see if there is any info on Sony website.

After that it really turns your WiFi on and off. Even if you want it out it will turn out on. That's the biggest (and only) flaw in the location based service imo

Hi there,
Sorry but to clarify, do you mean it doesn't matter if your WiFi is on or off or not - the Location-Based setting overrides it? There is no visual indication of whether or not your WiFi has been turned on or not by the Location-Based setting.

Hi, if you have activated location based WiFi, you will see an icon that location based WiFi is active, and when you are near a location you have activated with location based WiFi you will see the WiFi icon in your taskbar.
The normal WiFi icon still applies. If you are at a location you will see the WiFi icon, if you are not you won't see it.
You can enable WiFi if you are not at a programmed location, but of you are at a programmed location it will always try too keep WiFi on, thus enabling it again if you intentionally turn it off.

Yes, you're right. When I have the Location Wi-Fi icon on the left of the notification bar showing, the other main WiFi icon will switch on or off by itself, depending if you near one of your listed WiFi connections. Awesome.
So in other words, it doesn't matter if you turn WiFi on or off or not, it will turn on/off by itself if you have Location Based WiFi on. I assume the first step I guess, would have been to turn it on, as you have to register one of your WiFi networks anyways.

I use location based WiFi in conjunction with Juice Defender.
That way, JD keeps the WiFi off when my phone is sleeping but it gets turned on when I turn my screen on and am near a home network!
Yesterday I didn't use my phone all day apart from 2 very short phone calls and was at 89% battery life when I went to bed! This is very unusual as I'm always on my phone so really surprised me!

Wifi battery consumption it's really nice, less than 1% by hour when phone is sleeping :good:
Does anyone know of an app that will automatically turn off mobile data when i'm successfully connected to a WiFi connection have have internet access through it.
The app should do something like this...
1. Check for WiFi connection
2. If WiFi = connected, then test WiFi connection
3. If connection = Good, then turn off Mobile Data, else leave Data connection ON
If you suggest Tasker, then you better follow it up with a full write-up on how to set it up on Tasker.
I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that Android is programmed to use wifi when it's available, even though your data connection looks as if it's on.
If you're not happy with that, Automate It should be able to do something for you. I have Automate It Pro set to turn off wifi & data at midnight, for example, to avoid the nuisance of emails pinging me in the middle of the night. And it switches wifi & sync on at 09:00 each day. Very useful tool, simpler than Tasker, so no tutorial from me...

Tasker does it pretty simply, but it needs root access..
Set up (2) tasks - I called mine Data Off & Data On. You will need to select "Net/Mobile Data" and then set "On" or "Off" respectively. Next set up your profile. Select "State/Net/Wifi Connected", and leave everything empty and save. This will trigger the profile when any wifi is connected. (Optionally, you could set it to your home or work wifi, etc). Your "task" will be "Data Off", then add an "exit task" for "Data On" (by long pressing the Data On and selecting "exit task").

^^^^ This. Android has done this for years. Some devices have the ability to keep mobile data on with wifi, but those usually default to OFF.
Note in the screenshot below that my Cellular network state (mobile data) is "Disconnected"

Interestingly, I bring up the same screen on my phone (when connected to wifi) and it shows cellular is still connected??

Running SIX ROM - Just checked, that option is disabled in the Dev Settings / connected to good wifi / and cellular is active...

My dash cam is WiFi and broadcasts an SSID. My phone thinks it's a good internet connection and automatically jumps to WiFi. Essentially i have no connection whenever i drive. Obviously i could turn it off every time i get near my car and back on when i get out buuuut I'm lazy lol and I've forgotten to many times already. Anyways PCs have a priority (use other connections first) sort of thing. Is this a feature or does anyone have an app? I'll research but though I'd ask. Thanks

If you select that WiFi connection, you can disable the autoreconnect option...
Try this.
Settings > Connection > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Manage Networks > 'your car'. Un-tick Auto reconnect.
Also, under Advanced > Adaptive Wi-Fi > Network Exceptions, you could try removing your car Wi-Fi from staying connected.

No way to turn off auto-reconnect
I'm using a UK Exynos model. Maybe that's the difference.
These are my settings.
Why can't you select the dash cam in your phone's wifi settings and then "forget?" Especially when you're not within range of the camera?

I really don't want to put the passcode in each time. Do you every time you connect to WiFi?
I have US unlocked and I can't find that option either. Kinda strange. It should be there ,so I would call Samsung , it might be a bug.

Wow, the unlocked version is missing features that Verizon is allowing us to use? Inconceivable!
Have you tried turning off 'Adaptive Wi-Fi' completely, turning it back on when needed?
My dashcam app attempts to manage the connection itself, you have to initially connect it through the app to enable this.
When you launch the app and go to view or download the video, it connects to the cam and does it's thing. If you come straight out of the app, it stays connected but if you exit viewing the cam within the app, it conveniently disconnects the wifi for you.
Obviously your dashcam might not be capable of this but I thought I'd post it anyway because it's an easy setting to miss on the badly translated app. I've got a DDPai cam BTW. Also, if your dashcam has an app that doesn't do this then it might be worth asking the developer to implement it.
I wonder if this will be a problem with GoPros too. They use the WiFi to connect.
I'll have to check it out when I get home.

When and how often it does is based on some under the hood shenanigans that we dont know about.

I drive away from my house. WiFi stays on but not connected. Screenshot says wifi will turn on when near known connections but it never turns off ?

I don't think it's supposed to turn off. What that phrase means is that it will connect to WiFi when it's near a saved access point and will use mobile data when none are nearby, but WiFi will still remain on.
What adaptive WiFi does is it will use mobile data even if it's connected to a WiFi access point if the WiFi signal is bad.
I'm not sure what adaptive wifi supposed to do, I have it off and it switches between wifi and cell as it should. Is it switching in the middle of data transfer or something? Because right now I probably drop connection if move outside wifi range and will be on cell tower on the next redial. But to tell truth I never tested it.
So basically it's a gimmick, because Wifi as it is, will auto-connect to previously connected networks as long as you had wifi on. If i'm interpreting the screenshot properly the feature "turns on" wifi, therefore, it must be able to turn it off? I've even manually turned it off to see if it will turn itself back on when i get back home and nothing either.
No documentation on Samsung's site as far as i can find

Basically if you're connected to WiFi but have crappy signal like .2 kbps, it will start using your mobile data even if you're still connected to that WiFi. With adaptive WiFi turned off, it will keep using the crappy WiFi connection until you manually turn WiFi off or manually disconnect from the crappy network. Pretty much the reverse of WiFi calling (use WiFi if phone signal is crappy). Note the exceptions sentence at the bottom, it will not use mobile data even if the WiFi has a crappy signal if the crappy WiFi is exempted.
The "turn on" statement is correct, it will automatically turn on and connect to WiFi when it's in range of "trusted" access points (similar to "trusted devices" and "trusted places") but there is no automatic "turn off", at least, it hasn't done that while I've been using it.
OK i see what you are saying
wifi does not PHYSICALLY TURN OFF. wifi is still connected--the phone will auto switch to the stronger of the two. it won't turn the on screen "switch" off if that is what you are looking for.
its not a gimmick. it works if you are in an area with robust wifi and/or cellular. its supposed to work "in the background" so you don't know its going on.
google fi kinda does this. since google fi uses tmobile and sprint, the phone auto switches between the two carriers depending on which is stronger at the time. i've seen this happen by monitoring an app.

Not a gimmick at all. I work at a hospital that has wireless routers throughout that all piggy back the same access point. I see Adaptive wifi in action all day. Keeps me from losing my connectivity from my work portal.
don't think I want to have this on: I have limit on my cell data, let's say I start downloading something large, let's say 5- 10 GB movie from Amazon on wifi, then I go to my upstairs bedroom, wifi gets weaker, so it switches itself to stronger cell tower and eats my whole month data allotment in one evening, before I even notice? And all I had to do is keep the phone downstairs, next to the router to avoid it. Or am I missing something?

Exactly what happens to me when I leave home. My phone (old Note 7) will stay connected to my home network but won't be able to pull down any data from the net. It has to be manually turned off.

so an update. It work exactly how it says it would. I had to drive 7 miles out, but wifi automatically turned off, even with scanning off, once i got home it turned back on.

Ah, that's the thing. I noticed my WiFi would automatically turn off sometimes and sometimes not, and I couldn't reproduce it reliably. It's most likely either distance or time you have to be away from the "trusted" access point.
Congrats, now you can forget about toggling WiFi forever!
I think this setting has been screwing with my wifi related Tasker profiles. Suspect it really does turn wifi off.
I used to switch my wifi off manually when leaving the house.
All this #[email protected]\%! public wifi, blocking my internet because asking to log in....
Any shop or restaurant where you walk in does it.
And you do not know it, till you search the web and see that there is no internet at all till you switch your wifi off or log in to the shops fishing routers.
Adaptive wifi is a must have and a great improvement.
E.g. walk in a MacDonald's with adaptive switched on or off, you will see it is mother's little helper.
You need to have enough data from your provider of course.

Now that is some sweet use of the English language!
My old LG phone had this option but I can't find it in this. On the Bixby routines app it allows me to have it enable wifi when I get home but won't let me set it up to disable it when I leave the house.

Not exactly what you want, but turn on developer mode and enable Wi-Fi power saving mode may help.
Get IFTTT app - you can do that & tons of other cool automatic tasks. Even turning it on when you get home.

Actually you can turn off Wi-Fi in Bixby routines.
Go to a routine, edit, in "then" select add or plus, Wi-Fi, select "on" or "off".
You can set it up upon leaving "X" location, turn off Wi-Fi or you can do it by a specific time to turn it off
