Manual full update - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everyone.
This is so great that we found a way to manual update our phones, when our provider or Huawei don't sendt the updates, then we do it ourself Next line in project could that be to capture the OTA updates, so we don't have to flash 3.5GB full_update and download beside another 3.5GB data that we don't use? it's not the data, but the time

How can we update manually without Bootloader unlock and Safety net failure? Any easy way, I dont want to lose warranty (2 years) and Safety net

Check the HSTool thread. SafetyNet is a bit of a lottery depending on your model and what builds are approved for it but you don't have to unlock so will retain warranty.

oreo n950n kt branded ims settings locked with otp key code

Upgraded to oreo on note 8 n950n
Volte and video phone deleted from dialer as they have on any past update. No biggie. Get into ims settings. Either through hidden kt menu or shortcut lite
But now ims settings requires a one time passcode
And supplies a key code that correlates to a password
No idea where to get key from.. please help!
T Mobile sucks without volte
In my country, the carrier requires you to take the device to activate VOLTE, maybe you need to go in person with your device to your carrier service center
When I was on Oreo I couldn't even access IMS settings on my F. Phone INFO/Shortcut Master wouldn't find the IMS settings menu for me. But I'm rooted & T-Mobile CSC still activated VoLTE & Wifi calling fine for me. But whatever, I'm back to Nougat & won't be running Oreo until things get worked out.

How did you go back to Nougat from Oreo? Wouldn't that trip the Knox flag?
I know you are rooted, however just asking if I downgrade will I hit the Knog flag. I am extremely concerned as I am registered to my Org email and other apps which requires no trip of Knox flag along with no root.
Please suggest.
Thanks.

You can flash back to Nougat & flashing official FW in Odin should not trip Knox but I'm not taking any responsibility if somethig happens.
I have Exynos with TWRP installed so my Knox is already tripped. I switch back & forth from Oreo & Nougat with nandroids in TWRP.

Thanks. Unfortunately I read from somewhere that even downgrading ROM trips knox. Not sure though. In case someone who has already tried please confirm.
Additionally if I flash G950U1 official ROM on a G950U phone would that still trip knox?

I've never heard that either. Generally if you are are flashing official FWs in Odin Knox will not be tripped. And as you probably know you can't flash anything in Odin that is not for your specific device so Knox shouldn't be tripped.
I didn't realize you have a S8 since you are posting in the Note 8 forum but it should be the same. You can flash the unlocked FW on a carrier device but you have to use the PrinceComsy modified Odin to do so. Still it should not trip Knox. What's mainly important is you have to flash FWs with the same version bootloader you are on now. You can not downgrade BL, even if you tried Odin will not let you.

Thanks a lot. Since Note 8 and S8 has almost similar in everything apart from few hardware enhancements in Note 8, from firmware prospect both should be considered as same..
But I read in one of the thread in XDA forum that after Oreo upgrade the bootloader has been changed and you can't downgrade.
As you confirmed if the Odin doesn't even allow FWs which would not be officially compatible then that is an awesome idea. My fear is and always be with KNOX trip since a lot is dependent on that including my work profile email and stuff.
If you/someone knows a way to turn on IMS service switch in Oreo then I won't require downgrade. Essentially I need the VoLTE to turn ON.
Tuff luck it is.

Yes Oreo has a new bootloader but you can still go back to Nougat, but latest Nougat. When they say you can't downgrade BL, you can't downgrade versions.
I don't know what variant you have but for example, I have F. Latest Nougat is 3BRB5 or 3BRA8. Oreo is 3CRC1. The 5 digit from the end is the BL version. If the number is the same, you can flash. If the number you have now is higher than a FW you wish to flash tbat has a lower number, you can't, that's what is meant by can't downgrade BL.
Oreo, IMS setting, yes I do know how to launch it. I'm assuming you are Using Phone INFO or Shortcut Master & can't launch. But with Shortcut Master you still can. Instead of launching 467 as you normally would, click on Explore instead to open App Explorer. From there click the second option, IMS Settings will launch.
If you have a N & have the passcode issue as mentioned in this thread, that I don't know anything about. Although I believe I remember a post somewhere that someone posted the codes.

Thanks for this detailed info.
Apologies for being so naive. Mine is 2CRC5 Oreo. Unfortunately I don't know which variant you referred when you say F or N.
But going by your instructions I tried and got an error while invoking the 2nd option i. e. imsserviceswitchactivity. I assume this is related to rooting as it says " su not found. "
If yes, then please suggest me something without rooting to enable the ims switch.
Attached here the screenshot of the error message. Please help.

Ah I forgot you have S8, that's why I'm not familiar with 2CRC5. F & N are international models. You have a U which is US.
Says su not found which means you need root access to open it. I don't know of any other way. Be sure to verify with the S8 guys before trying to go back to Nougat. Guys on Note 8 have done it but I wouldn't want you to brick your phone in case something is different with the S8.
Since you have a U, that's got me thinking. Are you using your carrier's firmware? If yes VoLTE should already be enabled if they support VoLTE.

Yeah mine is US model G950U S8 Sprint branded, officially network unlocked by Sprint.
The CSC in my case is SPR/XAA/SPR. I haven't changed the carrier firmware yet in fear of Knox trip. SPRINT does have VoLTE but through their CallingPlus app in beta, not native VoLTE calls.
Moreover after network unlock I moved to India and through IMS settings I did enable VoLTE and enjoyed native calls with Indian operators. After upgrade to Oreo on March 16th, the IMS switch was auto disabled and the ims application didn't get invoked. So now stuck in a no man's land.
Is there any other method (adb or something else) to enable VoLTE?

Oh man, totally didn't expect that one. Unfortuantely in your case the only way I know is to root which is out of the question. I could be wrong but I don't think there is anything that can be done through adb, generally it's enabled by CSC. Hopefully the dev for Phone INFO/Shortcut Master will figure out how to get the secret codes working with Oreo.

The other way could be downgrading to 7.0, where the IMS setting was accessible. My fear is knox trip, if not I can downgrade. What would you suggest?

Yeah, the knox part is the questionable part as obviously it can't be reversed if tripped. I don't want to say something & mistakenly have it trip. But as we talked about flashing in Odin back to Nougat should not trip knox however you stated you read otherwise?

Thanks. I tried the app earlier too. The VoLTE option is not there. I don't want to downgrade unless I find a way to enable it.
I have searched over internet a lot and found mixed responses about KNOX tripping during downgrade or any unofficial try related to firmware.
I will wait for next few days for any help regarding the VoLTE enabler app or procedure. If not, I have the Nougat latest firmware ready with me(as you suggested earlier - same bootloader version). Eventually I have to go back. VoLTE is a must for me use this device in India with 4G connections.
Hope you may show some new light towards this fix.

Finally I downgraded to the latest Nougat ROM available for this device. Everything was smooth. I was able to enable VoLTE as we discussed. Thanks to you for providing me confidence.
I'll still wait for anyone confirming IMS app invoke on Oreo (without Root) before upgrade. Till then Happy with Nougat ROM.
Thanks again.

Hi, I have cracked the password for the otp key, you can get the java program from below
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnEZ2ptLoUQKgfV6fNSZIyQlf-cC5Q
Your pc must have Java installed.
1. run the java program by:
java OTP_Cracker yyit4(replace this key with your otp key)
the program output should be:
key:yyit4 pwd:1406604358
key:yyit4 pwd:1405418437
key:yyit4 pwd:1404232516
key:yyit4 pwd:1403046595
key:yyit4 pwd:1401860674
key:yyit4 pwd:1400674753
One of the pwd should be ok for the key. Entering the pwd in your phone then you can get in the volte settings.

Shall I magisk?

Sorry if this has been addressed already... It's been a while (2 years) since my last root so I got rusty.
I just bought a Note 9 and I'm preparing to root. However looks like rooting this phone will cause the loss of some functionalities.
Will I still lose them if I use Magisk? For what I remember it doesn't actually change the system so it should be fine?

You would need a custom recovery to root. Unofficial binaries of any kind will trip the Warranty bit in turn disabling all knox apps permanently. Magisk would protect you from the SafetyNet side of things though.

What will I lose if I decide to root and install xposed?

I have the 12gb/512gb variant with WW rom from ebay. I am very happy with the phone and I love it a bunch. I've always been an avid android power user and with several of my previous phones I have always ran a custom rooted rom.
Now, my question is, recently I understand that Magisk and edxposed don't hide themselves all that well from banking apps. My primary concerns are google pay and the banking apps I have, is anyone right now running root with magisk and presumably edxposed with the safetynet passed? What other things may I potentially lose if I go down that road?
Additionally, does edxposed offer all the benefits xposed did when I ran it on kitkat and nougat? Thank you for your wisdom, I truly appreciate it!
I would like to know, too.
I remember I did root my phone's when Android KitKat was the latest Android version.
Xposed was very useful in customising the phone. Nowadays, companies like Samsung offer alot of customizing options from their own software.
How about with the Asus Rog Phone 2?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but my guess is that your phone has been flashed with the WW rom. Meaning it's not the genuine software that came with the device which should be a CN rom instead since the international version isn't out yet. Unless the device is imported from one of the countries with the WW rom onboard.
How to know?, Simple have you gotten an OTA update since you got it, when you try to update manually what message you get?.
If my hypothesis is correct, then it means you will not get future updates unless you are back to the rom that came with the device. Anyway what does all of this mean, it means you have to 2 options to consider. Either go to ASUS service center near you tell them about your device and I think they will be able to flash back the CN rom that came with the device for a small fee or maybe for free depending on your luck. The other option is to simply root, might as well do it since you have lost OTA updates anyway until a solution is figured out by the community.
Coming back to your question, what are the drawbacks of rooting. Well only 2; the loss of warranty and future OTA updates pretty much that's it.

Loss of warranty for a $850 phone is a big deal and on top of that no OTA is a big bummer if we can't get updates to improve performance.
I just hope I don't need to root just to get Nova Launcher working with the global model.

By the looks of it I think you are right. I am still on the older variant of the WW rom and all my paperwork and supporting documents are in Chinese. In any case, that doesn't bother me all that much as I have 30 days to return it and hopefully the global variant is announced by then, so I can fully compare the two.
With WW already being flashed over CN then I am not worried about warranty as it is already void with them flashing WW over, and if I go the root path I can flash whatever variants I choose, presuming I know what I am doing. So to follow up, what do you think about safetynet passing? OTA and warranty are not my primary concerns, my day to day use of the phone is. If I cannot use my finance apps along with google pay, that is a bigger hit than warranty ever will be. Thank you for your response.

Regarding SafetyNet I heard from others who flashed the latest WW rom, SafteyNet passes but not the case on the previous rom. Anyway regarding my device I have no issues with SafteyNet or banking apps. If you want my opinion i would advise to return the device if possible and to get the international version instead if not you can also get SafteyNet to pass either by updating to the latest WW rom or by rooting and altering some code lines to making it pass.

Question Is it worth rooting?

So I will lose warranty in June, and require my phone to be rooted for a few reasons however, I just wanted to know is it likely that the screen could die like others mentioned? and will Samsung repair screen if it's rooted? Also how would I root it? Also could Google Pay work?
I Need root access since I live in a bad reception area and want to use Auto airplane toggle as it would save battery life and other mods.
Anyways, Sorry for bombarding people with questions
If your warranty is done by June, and you root the device after your warranty period, then it doesn't matter if you have a dead screen. You will still have to pay to get it replaced. In case you root before that, you will lose all functions related to Knox.
Thanks. Are dead screens common issue?

Rooting is also in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...t-for-galaxy-s21-series-b-n-0-u-u1-w.4233567/
Btw I am also considering rooting, I just don't know if it is worth it, if there are some good mods that requires the phone to be rooted.
i'd root too if there is a way to revert Knox, if only to optimize them google apps under naptime, in particular, and squeeze out more batt juice, in general. but, sadly, no...
I finally rooted my phone!!!
Just one thing, How will I update my phone for future updates (like one up 4.1)?
You will need to download the latest release for your model from Sam firmware and flash it on your phone.
Every time I try updating my phone I get this error what do I do please help!?

root/unlock bootloader Galazy s10

Hey there,
So I need to know all the necessary steps to properly install Andronix and Termux (F-Droid) by unlocking the bootloader. Do you know where I can find all the information about that for Galaxy s10?
Depends on WHICH S10 you have. Snapdragon CPU versions cannot really be unlocked. Exynos can. This forum is full of threads on how to do the Exynos, of course... I have a Snapdragon so I haven't spent much time learning it...
Ok thanks I have a snapdragon also so I guess I will do something else
I hear you - I have Snapdragon too, so I gave up ROM and rooting on this phone. Honestly, I don't miss it. I used to ROM and root all my previous phones, but I don't see the need to do that anymore.
I want to ssh my network from my phone using a vpn to access my router so I can wake on lan my server
You should be able to do that without root from the phone - ssh doesn't require root to run, and it's just a secure terminal. You can get an app to do that (I see plenty on the play store). As for VPN, again, you don't need root on the phone to do that - I have used OVPN many times from my phone without issue (and without root).

Why is everybody so convinced that rooting will only be possible with an unlocked bootloader? if there were to be a kernel exploit which would gain us access to the block devices i would say it's possible to downgrade the bootloader or anything which is accessible by block devices like the recovery partition. Am i missing something here?

Yes, everybody is so convinced that you need to unlock the bootloader and i wonder why.... we don't need odin to flash, afaik as we can find a kernel exploit which would gain us root access we could set properties to enable the oem unlock option.... making it available and usable could be a different case..... some requirements need to be met. If we could access block devices we should be able to install magisk and root the device.

I cant do tests on my galaxy s10 but I will on a Moto z2
we are so ****ed with the cellphones
Yeah, I need one too! I got a Galaxy S10 Plus Snapdragon. It's it's been 2 years since I have it and I can't find nobody that can teach me how to root it!!!
Because it cannot be rooted. US carriers have made that happen, and the manufacturers have had to keep doing it.
Many have tried, and on older BLs it can be done, but once you update you are stuck on a newer BL and cannot downgrade. If you root with the older BL, you cannot upgrade the BL either, because that will relock it.
If someone comes up with a way to do it, I'm all ears, as are many others... but with higher level crypto being implemented for this protection (ie, you need to know the crypto key!), it likely won't happen.
I have an idea but i don't know if it's possible, i tried but it seems corepatch isn't working.
I see a lot of topics about what's needed to unlock the bootloader, but if i look in the source code what is required to unlock the bootloader there's a lot of ro. properties which we can't set because we are not root.
As LSPatch can now communicate with Shizuku and gain system level access we might be able to disable system app verification (platform certificate, by extending CorePatch or maybe someone can write a signature verification disabler for lsposed). Then create an app which doesn't check for all these properties and initiates an OEM unlock and install it as system user./
