Why is there no discussion about the new FunkyHuawei 'kinda root' service? - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

FunkyHuawei has taken kind of a weird turn recently, starting with a total conversion from a 'credit' system to a subscription model. They released info about this on the 10th, on their Twitter account:

A monthly fee... Hmm, I wonder why. Could it be that their new workaround to get 'root' on the Mate 20 Pro is a very fragile hack that doesn't actually unlock the bootloader, and can (and will) be disabled with *ANY* kind of update - be it firmware or otherwise? Yeah, that is what else they announced - that they have a working hack to 'kinda' get root on the Mate 20 Pro. It is detailed here:

A few things to note from this:
1) They seem to only be able to do it for 3 distinct models: LYA-L29, LYA-L09, LYA-L0C. Yay for Canadians, I guess?
2) They can (or will) *only* perform this service over remote control of your computer, via TeamViewer. That kinda makes me cringe, for too many reasons to list. It doesn't mean it is necessarily shady, but if given the option I would rather not go down that road.
3) The service is PRICEY. Even though they only announced it three days ago, the 'opening sale' is over after today, and will normally cost $190 USD. (It is on 'sale' at the moment for $165). This is pretty damned expensive, given the, er... 'transient' nature of the hack - and the obvious reliance on the subscription model as a result.
4) They are a little vague about this one, but even though they have also come up with a way to flash any firmware to any phone, even if the OEM bootloader unlock is grayed out, this hack seems to only work with specific versions of firmware. In other words, they are likely going to do a downgrade and they certainly aren't going to promise future proof. This... Isn't good.
5) They clearly state that any changes to anything will break the hack, and that is on YOU. In other words, they are hinting that even with the new subscription model you would need to pay full price for them to perform this remote service every time. Not only that, they are not responsible for anything going wrong, even during their initial attempt. That is standard practice for this kind of thing I guess, but at that price?
I can't see myself going for this. It sounds too flakey to be worth it. Honestly it looks like we just have to hold out hope that someone brute forces the encryption on the algorithm used to generate the bootloader unlock codes, or a solid working hack to get around it. FH is charging this kind of money because they are betting that there will never be any other way to get 'root' on a Mate 20 Pro, even though this smells a lot like the tethered jailbreaks for the iphones that were so fragile they could break if the wrong app was executed never mind rebooting the phone.
To anyone who goes this route, let us know how it works out. It sounds like once successful (and if you never flash the firmware) you ARE able to install a working SU/Magisk onto the phone yourself. They go out of their way to say that they will flash a TWRP recovery to the phone if you wish, but they won't put any root on it themselves. Again, probably a legal thing more than anything else.
I wish Huawei would just sell us bootloader unlock codes.

The reason they'll only do it over Team Viewer is because they don't want to give you the tools in order to 1) force you to go back to them when it gets reverted by an update and 2) to stop the tools getting shared. If they connect to your PC then they can download what they need from their servers (securely using authentication) run it then clean up after themselves so as not to leave anything behind.
As you say, they're relying on there being no alternative and that M20P owners become desperate enough to go this route but I can't see that many going for it.

Hmm, that sounds exactly like what they would do. We need someone to go through this and pull off a bit of a hack of their own and keep all the software/data they download onto your computer. I wonder how paranoid they are, surely they don't go so far as to run tools that wipe the free space left when they delete their own stuff? Meh, this sounds like kind of a flaky hack - so far. I don't have a problem with them charging for a good service but $200 is a LOT for something that can't survive basic firmware upgrades.

I am glad no one is talking about this, because they are a piece of crap. They only want to steal our money. 100$+ for crap hack... Ahahah.

What remains is to point at the real source of all this, namely Huawei and their refusal to allow bootloader unlocking. Why in all heavens is it not possible for them to do it like many other companies do? In the light of all this I sadly state that the Mate 20 Pro was my first and last Huawei phone !

There's always One Plus where you pay $700 for a $300 phone with an upgraded processor and have to use custom ROMs that always have bugs because Oxygen is an ineptly coded train-wreck.
Strange how nobody seems to mind that XDA has been shilling for One Plus for years.
But at least you can unlock the bootloader, right?

You can always use a downgrade file that funkyhuawei customer service told you would work and have thay file brick your phone and be told 'its your fault the file didnt work' after paying out 150 in unlimited passes and bootloader unlock codes.
But you can always use your huawei warrenty and get a battered device returned to you right?

$190 for a "root but not root" solution is just daylight robbery. I dont think FH are welcome here anymore...

Ive done a paypal dispute. Sent paypal proof of huawei repair. Proof of email exchanges from funky that shows his files caused the damage. Hopefully will win but you never know.

Just a quick update, I will have to look into it but I will pay FH $500 if they can install malware onto my pc that hijacks all my banking information as long as they can make my phone stop with the WORST AUTO-BRIGHTNESS NIGHTMARE EVAR. Like, seriously... Really?

My paypal dispute failed. Even after proof of broken phone, repair, and being forced to purchase a bootloader code just to use my unlimited pass (bootloader was already unlocked he wouldnt switch my pass). Oh well

ok are you still within your 90 day paypal protection ?, if you are write them an email detailing everything and tell them their decision is against paypal buyer protection. You did not receive the level of service you were shown on funky (scammer) website and than your phone got messed up as well that's enough to appeal, try it and see what they say. Happened with me on a eBay purchase, they decided in favour of the seller, I wrote them they refunded me the full amount. Hope this helps, cheers.

Itd 180 days protection. Yes I have been messaging them further screenshots etc to try get the decision overturned.

ugh!phone is gone.!someone stole it!!!Help?

OKay so heres the story phone is missing idk how but i set it down on this table in the foodcourt at the mall..i was getting my food..and as soon as i got back to my table it was gone!!!IT SUCKS!I NEED MY PHONE!!
But idk i have something i pay for insurance its 6$$ a month i know i have it cuz i pay for it on my bill and it says can be fixed ...theft,stole,broke,etc.
so theres it it got stolen!
What should i do?can someone help i really want it back!but its hard to find in a mall with billions of people!
Is T-mobile going to recover this?
Can somebody tell me what i need to do?because im not fixing to pay another 400 dollars for the phone.

I guess hindsight is 20/20, but don't leave your personal belongings unattended if you don't want them to get stolen.
You could always try calling your phone. You could have tried calling a security guard to assist you if the thief turned up in the vicinity.
But since this occurred a while ago the best you can do now is just to file an insurance claim with Asurion.
Personally, I would be more worried about identity theft rather than the cost of replacing a phone. I suggest you immediately go change your Google Account password.
Did you have GPS and your "My Location" enabled? If so, track yourself down. lol
Find your IME and have your phone permanently disabled. Should be on the box.

I use an app called Pinpoint or something like that. You send a text to your number (you would use someone elses phone or e-mail or something obviously) with just the word "Locate" and it bounces back with the exact location. Unfortunatly the thief will likely notice the text and shut off the phone. However if you keep your phone LOCKED then you won't have to worry about it. Another unfortunate possibility is that the thief will also more then likely pull out your sim.
In regards to the "keeping the gps locate off to conserve battery" do this.
Download and install Locale. Set up a rule with a high priority (move it to the top) that when you recieve a call from a specific number it will turn on your GPS. Then track it down that way. There is also Latitude with Google, Loopt, etc that can give you an idea of where your phone is as long as they didn't clear or wipe your data. But as I said... if you keep your phone LOCKED they can't do that in the first place. Which buys you some time because they will have to research to find out how to wipe the phone. Since most people would use a computer at HOME... you might be lucky enough to track him down there. Just make sure you have a 'black and white' with you and be prepared to give evidence that it's your property. The G1 box has the IMEI and if you don't have that call T-Mobile (if you got it from them) and they can give you the IMEI over the phone.
Hind sight is always 20/20, but you will get a new phone and being careless is a bad habit. And bad habits are hard to break. So you'll likely do it again even though you say that you've learned your lesson. So take precautions next time (if there is a next time).
1) NEVER LEAVE YOUR STUFF UNATTENDED.
2) Have security preventions (such as system lock) on your device.
3) Have some software to recover your device should you not do #1 and/or #2.
I've been doing the theft and investigations line of work for about 6 years and I have caught 8 people and helped recover about 20 lost/stolen equipment. I'm so confident in recovery (as long as the preventions are already in place) that I've risked my Tilt by setting it out as bait just to see if anyone would take it WHERE I WORK. It turned up missing in less then an hour! I tracked it down the next day with the coordinates that it sent me.
It turned out that one of my supervisors found it and took it home. BUSTED! The next day he resigned. So... trust no one. Keep your **** locked, backed up and on you at all times! Even at home! (Caught my girl sneaking through it a couple of times ).

next time have your own mind and make a better decision. android gets stolen and you need to locate it, Yes theres an app for that....
It is always nice to see so many helpful people who never make mistakes.
Anyway call your provider and tell them your phone got stolen. That way they can put a freeze on the SIM (and IMEI if you are in Europe). Then deal with insurance and get it replaced. Not a big deal.
Personally I have locale running but would not bother trying to recover a stolen phone. It is not precise enough to track down the phone in realtime. Sim Checker could prove useful but I am not sure it would be worth the effort if the phone is insured. Remote Wipe would be the direction I would go. The hardware can be replaced but the personal info on the phone I would just as soon not get into a stranger's hands.
You still have to pay even if the insurance covers for your stolen phone. That's what i heard? Not entirely sure though. Next time be more careful.. I never leave my phone out of my sight .

Can detect root when you call VZW?

I called Verizon as I am having GPS issues. I was going to get a cert like new and while I wait, restore and send back non-working unit. When I called, the woman said she was going to run some diagnostics on her end (new to me) and said that she can detect that the software had been altered. She recommended that I reset the phone because if she put this through and it was rooted, I would be charged.
Are they able to tell your phone is rooted from their system without having it? Were they always able to do that?

It wouldn't surprise me, but I can't imagine technology is that advanced, considering they are basically violating your privacy with a tool such as the one described. They could basically "tap" into your phone firmware/software whenever they want, and grab whatever information they want. I couldn't imagine, while possible, they would actually do it.
That said, you need to deal directly with LG. Verizon, along with many other carriers, will void your warranty at the flip of a dime because it's more income for them. I was an LG certified technician from 2005-2010, and while a technician, we did not void warranties for rooting unless we found evidence the firmware/software change interrupted the hardware, such as overclocking.
Once again, deal with LG directly. Verizon will snub you whenever they get the chance. Also, did I mention that most representatives have no idea what the hell they're talking about in the first place?

She definitely str8 up said "it looks like your phone has been rooted" after she did her "diagnostics" when calling *611. SO... the tool exists.
The problem I have with sending it to LG for fixing is that I have to pay for shipping it, wait a week or two without a phone while they fix it, etc. With VZW, I can restore to stock and then get a phone immediatley.

Well, that's your option. Did you restore it? Whether the representative can "detect" root or not, when they see a completely stock phone in retail, they'll probably replace it.
That said, you've got me curious as to whether Verizon can actually detect root over the phone. The research has started. . .
Edit: After about five minutes, it's apparently possible via a Verizon Remote Diagnostics app that they send out with updates. I definitely don't agree with it, and I'm glad I can say that with custom ROM's, that garbage is removed.

Verizon knows at all times what software your running. I used to work as tech support for VZW. Than can also see how many apps u got, how much memory u used, etc. Its an invasion of of privacy. But what can we do?

Yeah, she said to me over the phone, after saying she was going to run diagnostics... "you've got 40% memory available, etc etc."
I am running a custom rom though. I'm using Xdabbeb's 24A. Could that tool not been removed or hidden?
Just turn off radios when calling. Then say, "I don't know whats wrong... I have 4 bars of 4G"
Need a replacement for my Moto X. Called them up and the guy could tell my phone was rooted but said he would ship out regardless. 5 days later no confirmation of it being shipped and it hadn't arrived so I gave them a call. It said your certified replacement device has been denied because you are rooted.
So I wonder if the steps to get a phone replaced would be to return to unrooted stock, then contact customer service? Or do they keep track of everything we do from the second we turn it on?

I'm now curious of the same question. I seriously can't believe they can see all that, even with a custom ROM. I mean, since this has been confirmed, couldn't this be a lawsuit of some sort? Am I the only person feeling this way? It's a blatant invasion of privacy.
It really is @UrbanBounca, but they'd probably tell you it's hidden in the agreement we all signed or the classic "don't like it, don't use our service". Only the big boys can get away with these kind of shenanigans.

I bought my phone outright for 399 or 499, I forget. I have a month to month contract on the UDP plan. Its my frigging phone. I'll do what I want with it. I understand when I root, I loose the warranty. I understand that if I'm tethering, I could get my wrist slapped.
Why call VZW for anything?
If your worried, don't root. If not, suck it up buttercups!!
I went thru the same thing with my Dodge Truck. I came to the conclusion that I am my own warranty station, plain and simple.
If your gonna do stuff to YOUR possessions, that might void a warranty, its not the manufactures fault, its yours, but YOU have the choice.
Of course VZW can see you phone, then they give all that info to the NSA for tax breaks
After a bit more research, I've found that they can only run diagnostics if (a) you're on ICS or above and (b) you have the MyVerizon app installed.
I don't have the MyVerizon app, and after hearing this, I won't be installing it.
Why would anyone use MyVerizon? It is certainly not NEEDED for anything productive.

It'd definitely the my Verizon app. Even if you block superuser access to it they can still detect it. The customer service reps also make you install it when going through the process. I'm leaving Verizon next month after my last line is free from contract. 3 lines with unlimited data going up on eBay.

Verizon's Remote Diagnostics allows them to remotely control your device to fix things. I used to do this all the time. Usually its somebody that doesn't have a clue how to use android. So, I'd ask for permission, they'd get a pop up to put in a pin number I've give them, and i'd have total control of their phone, even view some fun stuff in their galleries!!! LOL Sometimes it was the only way to fix a problem than have granny go to a local verizon store.
....But before we even get permission to control a person's phone, on Verizon's side of things the Diagnostic tool lists everything about the phone. It doesn't matter what rom you have, it will show up. Anything in Settings they can mostly see.
If you want to avoid problems, best bet it to do a full stock restore, and run your phone for a few minutes before you call so their systems can see your full stock and not rooted.
Some Verizon Tech Reps are very anal, and will give you a hard time for anything, like if they are on a mission to discredit anybody that calls. Others, like I was mostly took your word for your problem. If I could fix it, I would, or I just send a replacement. I could care less if your rooted. I'd send anybody a phone. 80% of the time its a snobby business man, making $500k a year, mad as hell his phone freezes or his battery drains fast, and demands a replacement. I never argued with these kind of people, as they made the big bucks and I only made $40k a year. I even told one guy I didn't get paid enough to argue with him, and I'll send him a replacement no problem. lol

If you want to avoid problems, best bet it to do a full stock restore, and run your phone for a few minutes before you call so their systems can see your full stock and not rooted.
Some Verizon Tech Reps are very anal, and will give you a hard time for anything, like if they are on a mission to discredit anybody that calls. Others, like I was mostly took your word for your problem. If I could fix it, I would, or I just send a replacement. I could care less if your rooted. I'd send anybody a phone. 80% of the time its a snobby business man, making $500k a year, mad as hell his phone freezes or his battery drains fast, and demands a replacement. I never argued with these kind of people, as they made the big bucks and I only made $40k a year. I even told one guy I didn't get paid enough to argue with him, and I'll send him a replacement no problem. lol

The women I got kept saying to do a "factory reset" because if she put in the order for a CLNR that I would be charged if I was rooted. After I got off the call, I got the impression she was telling me to unroot my phone, restore to stock and then call back to place the order.
I had a custom rom, but it was stock based. I believe I did have the MyVerizon app on there.
I just rooted my 24A G2 and the moment I rebooted, I got a notification popup saying 'You have modified the system software' or something like that. So it is phoning home (no pun intended) and tripping a flag somewhere. I'm sure no one is looking at it unless you call, so before you call, flash back to 100% stock.

It's not an invasion of privacy. They are protecting themselves from all of the warranty fraud that happens when people who complain about their phones try to return them under warranty.

When it comes to having to get a new phone, Verizon will not give you one if you have altered the phone. However, let's say your headphone jack stopped working and you need to send it in to get it repaired. They HAVE to fix your phone, regardless if it's rooted or not. Why? Because the only way they can't do warranty repairs with your phone being rooted, is because they HAVE to prove that rooting directly caused the issue with the phone. This is per the Magnusson-Moss Act Chapter 50 of United States Code Section 2304, which states:
Waiver of standards
The performance of the duties under subsection (a) of this section shall not be required of the warrantor if he can show that the defect, malfunction, or failure of any warranted consumer product to conform with a written warranty, was caused by damage (not resulting from defect or malfunction) while in the possession of the consumer, or unreasonable use (including failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance). So how does that mean my warranty isn't voided? If you go out and buy a brand new G2, you root it and have no issues. No problems. Then a 6 weeks later, you plug in your headphones and all of a sudden, no sound is coming out of your head phones. Or the sound coming out of your speaker is crackling. Or your SIM/SD card door breaks off. Just because you rooted your phone, LG still has to honor the 1 year warranty pertaining to THOSE problems. They will STILL have to fix your headphone jack, THEY STILL have to install a new speaker and STILL have to give you a new SIM/SD card door.

T mobile won't replace my Note 4 because it's rooted?

I see a bunch of people who say they get can get replacement phones from t mobile with no hassle even if their knox counter is counted
Long story short, doesn't matter if it's stock or a custom rom, a few of my calls go straight to my voicemail and my phone doesn't even ring or give me a notification someone called. A few other people here had that problem and told me to just get a replacement. I don't care if it's a new or refurbished device but when I called t mobile and asked for a replacement they me to factory reset (which I did) and try turning off VoLTE and everything was going well until I had to open my big mouth and told him I rooted it. He said I am covered by the manufacture warranty if it's not rooted, since I told him it's rooted will they write a note on my account saying my warranty is voided? Do you guys think because I mentioned root, he assumed my device is still rooted?
Should I just call again and try a different person? I don't wanna lie and then have them charge me $699 if I don't tell them I rooted my phone on my 2nd try of getting a replacement....

simple. factory it back dont root. so its not lying. your device isnt rooted anymore. just dont tell them you rooted. Thats like shooting yourself in the head and praying your still live. Ignore the asshole who told you about noting your account. rooting doesnt break the phone. its already defective. it makes me so frustrated to hear any rep giving the customer the middle finger when they dont understand squat about root. If you are within the 14 day buyers remorse period i suggest you call into that department and get a new one sent out.
If you want to see if that person documented anything on the computer about your root comment call in and ask about the day you where helped by him. ask if the rep can read/look into the comments if there is any notes about your "return status". Try it a couple of times if no rep mentions about any root comment and void warrenty then you are good.
You my friend are definitely a noob. You never ever admit anything. Never. And the proper fix would be for you to call tech support and tell them your phone rings once before voicemail and you wish for them to extend ring time before voicemail. That will fix your issue.

I had the same issue when I activated my note 4 with Tmo. Wasn't receiving calls or texts. Called customer service then they ended up creating a tech ticket. Because they couldn't solve it themselves, they told me give them 48hrs. And it'd fixed. After about 13hrs they had it fixed. So give them a call explain your issue DON'T AND NEVER MENTION ROOT. Be persistent don't hang up until you have an answer. And they'll fix it..

That's not true my first note 4 was rooted and it shows that on their end I didn't even bring it up. The lady told me to restore back to oem spec if I wanted to keep my warranty. I did and called back the next day they sent me a new phone.

I lept before I looked and bought a G4 to replace my iPhone 6 and after some research, LG has a stick up their arse and is claiming they will never support unlocking the bootloader on the H811:

**EDIT** I authored the post after a string of very unsatisfactory events with T-Mobile regarding the purchase. See my reddit post here. Please consider this before you make a return/exchange decision.
I WAS going to get a Nexus 6 to skip the noise (as a long time Nexus 4 user previously) but.. but.. the G4 seems so much sexier in a way.
I'm not the biggest fan of iOS myself however, I've learned to live with it after working at Applecare for some years.. At least there is a 8.4 jailbreak.
Thankfully, I have a perfect excuse to return the G4 without a restocking fee (their cash register locked up and they couldn't provide a receipt NOR could phone support OR EVEN retail support), I'll simply state that without a receipt - I could not participate in the G4 promotion for free batteries, SD card, etc. (Watch next they won't be able to process a return at all or something, my luck).
Regardless of reason, It'll be a huge regret to hang on to the G4 if I have to put up with T-Mo's Bloatware long term - rootability was the only reason I switched back from the dark side. No one can see the future - but dear XDA fellows, is there any hope for a workaround without LG's grace to unlock the bootloader or should I simply return it and keep using my perfectly working iPhone for now?

Just got mine today and will be very disappointed if there is no way to unlock bootloader. I took for granted that it would be able to be done. May return now....
Really considering returning for this issue as well. I jumped from the S6, and may jump back. Still undecided.

I mean, you can do what you want as it is your device and your life, but ALL of our devs ALREADY have Root Access (just working on a safe method before it is released to the rest of the G4 community) and I am pretty sure bootloader will follow pretty close behind that, and even if not with just Root Access you can still do SO many great things that at that point the locked bootloader kind of ceases to be a big deal anyway.

I appreciate the reassurance. I authored the post after a string of very unsatisfactory events with T-Mobile regarding the purchase. See my reddit post here. EDIT, what the heck - the subreddit went private literally the second after posting the link.
Basically put, the POS crashed after swiping my card and they just can't furnish a receipt. Not the store, not customer service, not retail support and I stood around with $400+ missing from my bank account while they debated if they'd let me leave the store with the phone. Well that and I now miss out on absolutely every promo deal offered.. Of course, they absolutely refuse to waive the restocking fee (but I did get an account credit).
I apologize if anyway my post was perceived as a whiny, spoiled brat - complaining at a lack of root/bootloader. The story went much deeper than that and I didn't take a moment to calm myself before posting (or explain myself fully at that).
All in all, I just gave up and stopped caring and will keep the G4. The iPhone is on eBay - good riddance and I'll spend this time getting used to Android again after working at the Jobs Mob for the last 3 years.
I'm going to get the nexus 6... S6 is to small for me.... This phone will take months to see an unlock bootloader and than months to see aosp.... G3 was different cause it came unlocked
I will say that it always amazes me how people expect unlock and root and AOSP to be out within a few days of a device release. Seriously...these devices are much more difficult to root and unlock than those from a year or two or three ago. Processor tech as well as addition of selinux has made this both more tricky and time consuming to develop. On top of that, they have SOO many more added hardware sensors and gadgets that AOSP takes more time to debug to get a proper build out.
Root/Unlock is in the works...as is AOSP....I know of one AOSP based dev working on the device tree now.
Personally, I think it is always a mistake to buy something if you don't at least love it as it comes out of the box.
*Edit: Regarding OP's issues with the sales process, that just sucks bro. I'd be royally P***ed at that.

No worries buddy. I completely understand your frustration based on the entirety of your situation and I do not fault you for being upset/aggravated in the least.
I also did not take your post as you being "whiny" or anything of the sort either, Your concerns are essentially the same ones all of us had the first couple of days (or at least a lot of us did, myself included). I just happened to have already put in enough time with the G4 to be able to know that it is still a rock solid device even in its stock form.....and since we are all but guaranteed to have a public Root method at this point, one day it is just going to end up being that much better.
So rest assured you made a great decision by keeping the G4 (especially over an iPhone) and it will not disappoint.

Haven't done much searching, have you? jcase has posted MANY times on xda about it and has released a number of videos on youtube proving he has his phones rooted. autoprime has as well. Then, 2 days ago, thecubed announced they're working on it and are making progress.
Funny how you feel there should be a "timeframe" where thing should/must be done on a phone. Nothing like having some patience.
So, let me ask you this...would you rather they work on it and make a proper, safe release of unlock and root, or hurry it and potentially leave you with a brick?

Now that I have actually used the G4 for awhile, I'm satisfied with it. The most apparent annoyance so far is some noticeable lag when carrying out tasks/app switching. I'm happy my generic OBD scanner pairs just fine (dtto on iOS) and I'm back to using aCar and other apps I've been missing.

Patience young turd burglar. G3 seemed to be hopeless until the TWRP exploit was found. Next time do some research before purchasing if you want instant gratification (oooohhhh myy). Otherwise be patient for the other developers to releases a safe method

FunkyHuawei's rebranding method is a total con!

After 3 days spent trying to rebrand/dual sim change my phone, I've come to the conclusion that it is just a total con. Here's my experience of it.
Firstly, this will not work with android/emui 9 handsets. Not only doe FH not make you aware of this, they go as far as to suggest it will. From their instructions:
1. Install HiSuite version 9.0.2.301 -- It must be this version.

5. Use the 'Update' function to install firmware via FunkyHuawei.
After spending a day and a half pulling my hair out trying to get my phone working and then downgraded to android/emui 8, I was finally in a position to attempt this again. I chose fw CLT-L29 8.1.0.159(C432), the match to my CLT-L09 8.1.0.159(C782) fw. I used the above instructions, everything looked like it was going okay, rebooted and it was still a CLT-L09 (C782) fw, just a different version. And to add insult to injury, the bootloader is now locked again with no way to unlock. And of course, FH doesn't want to know when things don't work as theyre meant to.
This is a total waste of time and money.

Absolutely not. I was at it for 3 days. I could've reverse engineered it quicker ffs.
Finally somebody understands how scummy FH is.
This has become a known issue now. I even tried to get a refund off PayPal for the agg they caused and because they didn't offer any actual support or help. Had to find it out myself. They still haven't updated the website despite me telling them the problem. Works eventually but not before days of research and aggravation

I got a refund from PayPal, FH didn't ever bother to answer PayPal's investigation because they knew they f****d up.
As for the OP, I am really sorry for you, now that you can't unlock your bootloader again, you need to replace your phone's motherboard (I suppose).
Your bootloader relocked because you didn't read properly. That is advised on the site I'm afraid. Switching to l29 dual sim will change imei. That's why I just did strsight swap to l09 C432 you'll probably find the error was yours here in selecting the correct region code and model

Funky are crooks.
The fact that they offer a paid for, premium service means that is an agreement between yourself and them and there are certain things they have to adhere to, like forewarning about major irreversible changes to your device.
Because they alter the device and make it into a state that can no longer be unlocked (bootloader) this means their service is flawed, not only that but the multitude of people who paid for it is insane.
They didn't even warn people about it. Maybe they do now but that wasn't always the case.
In all fairness, get a refund. They can't argue, PayPal will back you 100%
What they've done is fundamentally unlawful.
I'm really surprised that they haven't been taken to a small claims court.
Don't pay them a penny.

I did mine a few months ago now and there were warnings about changing to dual sim causing future problems hence I avoided that. No doubt they need to put up more info re limitations of their tools though and advice on how to proceed though

Wasn't always there and believe me it should be extremely obvious. In fact they should be warning everybody.
I would be very annoyed if I'd paid for that and got shafted.
Oh I was pissed and gave them a mouthful when they stopped replying soon as I actually paid and needed help. Thankfully I'm stubborn and ocd and managed to read and research enough to get round it safely and I'm now C432 would never recommend them tho. Not sure if any the others out there are any better

I did the guide i rewrote on here. Worked perfectly..
Dual SIM no but I didn't need it..
There's another user who followed the same process but it went completely wrong. And he actually did get dual IMEI's
No idea how it's possible and I obviously haven't seen it but he had no reason to lie. Think I've still got his messages somewhere.
To confirm, he did not use the funky method.
I saw someone else followed a guide and it went south badly but from recollection I think the one I refer to actually selected for l29 but the process didn't complete, only enough to screw the imei. Just doing region code wouldn't touch imei. Unfortunately user error can occur and zero support doesn't help at all.

Many thanks dladz and aka.petteri. I've lodged a claim with paypal now. It should be interesting to see if FH defends themselves.
Read my previous replies, I had issues with them and put a PayPal request in as well, but I read enough elsewhere prior to doing it to know imei wouldn't be affected unless tried change to dual aim. I'm just saying what they're also likely to say, as it's about the only warning it gives on the site

My imei didn't change. My phone still works as it did before attempting the changes. Its just that the changes didn't apply and to add insult to injury, my bootloader is locked again without any chance of ever being unlocked.
Intrestingly, FH is now saying they cannot supply bootloader unlock codes, and has no idea when, if ever, they will be able to offer this service in the future. This certainly seems like they were getting the unlock codes directly from Huawei and now that Huawei no longer supplys the codes, neither do they.
Any good dual-sim conversion tutorial here to follow? I don't want to use FunkyHuawei anymore.
I am curious how much the unlock codes will cost. Last time a single code was 129$ haha

So they basically sold your a service which rendered your device into s state that cannot be altered and they can't help any further because they're weakly binded to Huawei?
Did you get a refund? Sorry man I'd be taking them to small claims court for a new phone.
That's terrible.
Paid for "service" so much changes when it's an actual seller / buyer transaction. They haven't sold what they advertised. And it's borked your phone. Lol.
