How to disable Digital Well-being! - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

I don't like the idea of Samsung tracking every single app that I use and how long I use it for.
This stinks of how Facebook tracked their users and found out that millions of people were using WhatsApp so they bought it.
SOLUTION:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.wellbeing

Digital well-being is a feature which s was introduced with Android 9 by Google. It's not a feature that Samsung implemented. Also I don't think there is a way to turn it off.

Block usage access for it!

use a package disabler app or adb and disable it. That's what I did, no issues at all and it removes from settings

you can just disable the "Usage data access" special permission from Digital Wellbeing.
This way the app will not be able to track how much time you spent within each app.
I'm trying to figure out if this has any impact on performance on the S10.
edit: to select the Digital Wellbeing you should enable system apps on the list of apps that asks for this permission.

Mine shows " permissions required" and the list is empty no toggles.

Just as an fyi this will disable wireless power share completly.

What did you disable originally? Usage access for this app or do you disable it completely?

Disabling the app through adb

Disable package pro did it for me

I know it sounds weird but I have actually higher SoT when Wellbeing is active (around 8 hrs)
I have used Package Disabler Pro to disable bloatware and useless apps but when Wellbeing is disabled I am only getting 6 to 7 hours of SoT. WTF?
Have someone else noticed this as well?

It could be placebo, since it doesn't have any influence on battery menagment and optimization. By clear logic you should have gotten better battery cause it's a log hog

Denying usage access does not affect wireless powershare in any way.

Originally i disabled the app itself. Btw, didn't notice any problems with powershare, it worked just fine while the app was disabled. I reenabled it only because i noticed increased battery drain...

Same problem here
More drain when wellbeing was disabled!! which is totally weird because it should consume less energy..,

How the drain manifests ? How do you measure it ? In device car/battery ?

I have just noticed that I was getting around 7 hours SOT against 8 hours. At the beginning it sounds weird but then I saw other posts from people noticing the same behavior

Okay but no logs about that ?

Advertisements

For the last 2 days I have been receiving a butt ton of advertisements that show up in the notification bar as stars. I did download 4 apps the other day but I uninstalled them. Does anyone know how to stop this? I'm on 905 rooted and running eclipse 3.0.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
I forget what it's called, but there's an app that will scan for these and tell you what program is causing them. I know that doesn't help. Ultimate Special FX (best app ever) has ads like that, but you can disable them in the app's settings.
Those are 'airpush' notifications. There's an app in the Play Store to check and find which apps are doing them. Can't remember what it's called but search for 'airpush'.
Airpush detector will tell you which apps are causing the ads, airpush opt-out, will supposedly block the ads
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Thanks! I had downloaded the bionic tcp buffer tweak app just to try it out and come to find out it was that one. Since I deleted the app no more have shown up. Thanks again!
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
To add to this, I just found out there is another company that is pushing these ads to your notification bar. Going to opt.leadbolt.com and entering your imei, you can opt out of these ads too.

i get ads from leadbolt and i saw it told me to opt out at leadbolt. Buti don't feel safe giving out my imei. has anyone tried it?
edit:
i downloaded airpush from the playstore and it showed which apps have ads behind them. i think i'll just uninstall those apps.
Leadbolt also has an app that takes their ads off your phone. I can upload it to my dropbox and let you guys download if you need me to. Boy are those notification ads annoying.

For anyone who doesn't know, you will need 2 apps to get rid of push notifications. You will need both the airpush optout app and the leadbolt optout app. Both ad networks push notifications to your phone and it gets real annoying when you have several apps that pop them up. With the optout apps, you can get rid of the ads without having to uninstall any of your apps that are pushing them.

Thanks a lot buddy, as i read the whole thread and some links i traced i got to know that it may be raised up by some malicious infected apps i've recently installed. Will uninstall them right now, and i hope the issue will be gone and there won't be a need for a full wipe.
Thanks again for your help.

Check your phone now! Android Device Manager

Go into System Settings--->More--->Security--->Device Administrators and check to see if you have the new "Android Device Manager". I just got it today, never got notified of an update or anything... it just *appeared* there outta nowhere lol.
Here is a link to show you what it can do.
It is what it says it is, you can manage your device if it gets stolen or lost and remotely wipe it from the comfort of your own home/computer. There are a lot of 3rd party apps that do this (both paid and free) but it's always nice to see Google integrate this into our devices!
there for me as well, never look there so idk for how long/when.
Holy shizzz! Thanks a ton for this contribution. Never realized it or heard of it.
I tried the location feature, worked like a charm. I tried Ring but that didn't work.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
got it too! location and ring both worked :good:
Just tried the location and ring and both worked... I would assume "wipe phone" works, but I'll just save that for later
Got it yesterday on my S4 and N7, ring and location works on both. Cool!
Hmm.. I have it on my HTC One GE as well. No idea when it came through.

Something similar. Is the Cerberus app worth it?

thats the thing, it depends on remotely going into stock recovery to wipe the device, us rooted users may not be able to wipe
It was very buggy at first. Wouldn't even locate my device.

Try it!!!
I went ahead and tested it all out. The remote location works great, ring worked and remote wipe worked. Very cool stuff! This was with a converted HTC One to the GE.
Strange I cant get this to work with the phone but my tablet was fin (both rooted) I did disabled a few things from google framework tweaks, not sure if that's the reason.
They are doing a slow rollout. Maybe it hasn't been updated yet.

Yes it is worth it. They have a flashable zip that survives a factory reset. Its just a few euros and you can run it on 5 devices no matter which Google account is used.

I have it and everything is working. I'm rooted w/Blu Kuban mf9.

The only way this works is if you keep data on. If you turn it off for whatever reason this service is pretty much null and void since you need an active data signal for this to work.
Does not work for me. Rooted/rebooted and I have the function, but it will not find my phone, ring, etc. I'll keep trying.
i have two phones and both appear on google play but it will only allow me to probe the first phone. changed the "visibility" to "show in menus" setting on google play, didn't make a difference.
edit: found this but i don't have that arrow option to select the other phone. anyone else?
Setting works on both our SGS4's. One rooted stock, one stock. Obviously didn't try wipe. TWRP on rooted so I'm sure it wouldn't work anyway. Nice feature, but you still can't beat Cerberus!

I created a Tasker activity to turn on data and gps when it receives a text with a certain message in it. It also marks it as read, deletes it, and locks the screen. I can post it if you want.

been using it for months now with no problems, don't really notice much difference with regards to battery saving but it does help stop some dodgy services like htcCheckinService, googleAnalyticService etc..
however, some services are needed for the phone to function properly especially in Google Play Services, one too many disables in there and things start going tits-up :silly: bottom line is to experiment and let us know how you got on

True but Google Play Services has severe wakelocks and this app can disable certain processes within Google Play Services to reduce wakelocks...
