Mine does to, but I don't have it set to "always", since I kind of prefer it that way. I'll give it a shot to see what the results are. Do you notice any difference between the two settings, as far as how long it stays active and on?

FYI - "Always on" seems to be working fine for me. I turned my screen off about an hour ago, and just connected into the system via Cerberus. In the past, wifi would have shut off within a few minutes and I would get a connection timeout warning. So maybe your unit is having issues with it. I've also only lost MAYBE 1% in battery power, so I think I will leave mine in this state as opposed to disabling wifi on sleep.
I have this problem on some of my devices on 1 of my wife access points but not the other. I believe I could possibly tweak some settings on the access point as I don't believe it is the android device. I use an app called WIFI Fixer and that keeps things working.

Happening on multiple devices. Try advanced WiFi lock on the market. Its one of the first apk's I install and always works.

Yes. How much depends on how many apps you have set for auto-updates, I suppose. If you're running several games and social networking apps and they're set for auto-updates, you'll experience a battery drain from them checking for updates every 5 minutes. How much, I can't say. I still don't have my Nexus 7. But if your device drops off the WiFi signal, those apps will know that there is no data connection and not try to update until there is one.
Not to change the subject of the thread, but if I see one more <sigh> I'm going to snap.
Also, OP, why do you need WiFi to be always on? If you can't live without it try: http://bit.ly/MdurdU
As I mentioned, "always on" is working fine for me. Tested it over a period of a few hours. Even moved from one AP to another (ie: work to home), and it auto joined the new wlan.
Battery drain is very minimal in my case. Maybe 0.5-1% an hour, if that.
Yeah but then the apps can't update. IMHO, if you don't want constantly-updating apps, don't enable them to.. If they are checking as often as you think, I would find a different app which gives you what you want but doesn't do that sillyness..
I keep Wi-Fi on 24/7 on all my devices. GPS and BlueTooth too.
I *REFUSE* to let my device "run my life". I find a way to make my battery life happy, and still enjoy my devices. I disable all of the other senseless crap like Facebook or FriendStream, or bloatware-apps.. I don't EVER use an app like ATK or JuiceDefender, or if I do, I only use it instantly to kill an app and then I make it kill itself too. In my 3+ years experience with Android and 30+ devices, I've found that a LOT of apps will TRY to restart even if you kill them. Imagine ATK killing an app, it restarting, ATK auto-killing it again, it restarting again, ATK re-killing it AGAIN, loop()... get my point? Uninstall the problem app and/or find a similar one which doesn't treat your device like it's own playground..

Now rooted and still trying... still keeps auto-turning-off !
This might be a defect in your units. I have gone many, many hours (12+) with my unit in standby mode without it losing wifi connection. It will also continue to sync with email, etc. during this time (and provide audio notifications).
I only lose .5-1%/hour, so I've left it "always on".
I'm having the same issue. On overnight sleep, the wifi is off when I turn it on. It won't reconnect until I toggle wifi on and off. Nothing I've tried so far has worked. Little worried its not as widespread of an issue as I thought it would be.

Since mine has worked flawlessly (stock rom) for very long periods of sleep with an active wi-fi connection, I would have to believe you have a defect in yours. Either that, or a problematic AP.
I got my original Note 4 last Sunday. Since I use GPS navigation quite often, it is always one of the first things I check out when getting a new device. I found that it didn't hold a lock for long, it takes a long time to get a lock again, and when it does lock it's not accurate at all. I got an exchange today, and the same exact thing is happening with my new unit. A friend told me this would be the best place to come for help. She mentioned that rooting and custom romming might be the fix. I haven't rooted since my MyTouch 4G, and I've never used a rom. Can I get some help with that?
Also, I've tried waze instead of Google maps and that didn't help. And yes, high accuracy is turned on.
Thanks in advance!
Bump - any advice? On a different forum, someone mentioned downloading a GPS fix app from the Play Store. I did that, and I'll check it out on the way home from work. But ultimately I'd like a device with strong GPS natively. I'll try to exchange it one more time. I find it really weird that I'm the only one that seems to be having these problems!

Are you the same penguin from the a/c forums?
Sorry to hear you're still having gps issues with your replacement phone. Silly question, but is high accuracy mode selected in the location settings? Is wifi enabled?
Have you tried installing GPS Status? How many satellites can you lock onto?

Yep, I'm the very same penguin . High accuracy mode is indeed enabled. I haven't tried it with wifi enabled, I usually disable it when I leave home to conserve battery life. I'll try keeping it enabled on my commute home tonight. I've installed GPS status and it locks on to like 13ish out of 20ish satellites (it fluctuates a bit) when I'm stationary so that's not a problem. I haven't tried seeing how many lock on when I'm driving since I don't want to fiddle with my phone that much when I'm on the road. I'm still trying to get one more replacement before my 14 days are up, but the day is approaching quickly, and none of the 7 or 8 stores in my immediate area ever have any in stock! I call every other day and I'm sure I'm driving the reps crazy lol.
I've had this same issue with my first Note 4 on TMo but replaced it last week and havent had any issues besides very occasionally having a slight hang after making a turn and the GPS not registering it for a few hundred feet.
On my first note 4 it would CONSTANTLY lose GPS signal and be wildly inaccurate (not recognizing my turns or the proper facing direction) but hopefully *knock on wood* its been fixed with my new phone. I know you've already exchanged it but...
If you find a fix, please post it here just in case
I had the same problem with the GPS, it was working only on wifi but not with the phone data. But after a full flash it is working fine again. Also, it was very laggy since the first day.
I had a thread around here for similar GPS issue.
I actually got a PM from someone called SamsungSupport.
Anyway I think this is a compass calibration issue.
I installed the GPS Status app and recalibrated the compass.
The next time I used it (yesterday), I didn't have any issues.
I don't know if it has resolved the problem and I'll keep monitoring it whenever I use GPS.
I got my second replacement yesterday, and it's even worse than my initial replacement!! It's as bad as my first device.
I chatted t-mo customer care today and they were of no help. They kept advising me to do the same troubleshooting issues I've already done. Then, I chatted Samsung care and the rep was A LOT more helpful than the previous Samsung rep I spoke with. Samsung has a remote app that you can download from the Play Store, and the Samsung rep can remote into your device and see what you're seeing. We couldn't do much at the time since I'm at work, but I'm set to chat them back right before I leave work. They're going to remote in with me and actually see the issue that I'm having while driving. HOPEFULLY a fix will come out of all this!!
Bump. I'm on my FOURTH replacement now, same issues. What is going on?? So far, I've:
Recalibrated the compass
Tightened the screws underneath the battery door (they seemed pretty tight anyway)
Samsung support reps haven't been able to work with me using the Smart Tutor (remote into my phone to see/manipulate what's on my screen) app. They always disconnect the session before I get on the road, or maybe the session just drops.
Factory resets
Clearing the cache
I got my firmware reflashed at a Samsung kiosk at Best Buy
Make sure high accuracy mode is enabled (these days I never take it off since I'm always fiddling with my GPS)
Tried a number of gps fix apps in the play store
They want me to send in the phone for repair, but I have this nagging feeling that they're going to turn it on, see that gps can indeed get a lock, and send it back. Plus, there's no guarantee that T-Mobile will have a smartphone loaner phone, since they say that those phones keep disappearing because there's only a $50 deposit, so people just take the phones (this is why we can't have nice things). Since no one else is reporting these issues, it's doubtful that Samsung is working on a software fix for it. I'm really REALLY enjoying this phone otherwise, but I NEED gps to work!!
Samsung Note 4 Issue with Waze
I just upgraded from the Note 3 to the Note 4 two days ago and I have the same issue. It took me a few hours but I figured what they have done. They have program the Note 4 for totally hands free driving and if you want to use a GPS program it will be the one they have. You have to activate CAR MODE and you will see and hear your Waze in the background come on line and start to work correctly. Then if you close their program quickly, you will see Waze running correctly for about 5 seconds and the go back to acting up without GPS signal. The GPS signal with high accuracy is tied to the CAR MODE.
TMOBILE will never offer a smartphone loaner as per policy. GPS works fine not sure what ur doing
BAD ASS NOTE 4 + BAD ASS GEAR S
I don't know what might have happened, but this morning, I tried to connect my Phone to WiFi, and for some reason, it wouldn't. The WiFi toggle button that you see when you pull down the Notification Bar, now that WiFi button keeps turning on and off constantly. The time it takes between each toggle (on to off or off to on) is just about 0.5 - 1 sec. This is crazy. I can't connect to my WiFi.
I googled for solutions, no luck. I hard reset my Phone, no luck still. I wiped Partition Cache too. I entered into the Safe Mode, the same behavior happened. It's weird. It's like my Phone is possessed or something. A virus maybe?
Any input would be much appreciated. My phone is running the latest Firmware from T-mobile. And I got the update maybe 1-2 weeks ago and it had been working fine until this morning the issue started.
My phone just started doing this as well. Wifi keeps turning off and on. If I want to keep it off I have to restart my phone. If I want to use the wifi I have to manually toggle it from the wifi settings. Just weird it started doing this just recently. Maybe an app we both have installed?
I think I've found the issue. Sadly only after 3x reformatting the phone.
Go to Settings, Location, then click on Improve Accuracy, then turn off WiFi and Bluetooth Scanning (actually just the WiFi scanning would do the trick, but I decided to just turn off both of them). I suspect an update to one of Google system apps might have caused the phone's WiFi to behave weirdly like this. For the past 2-3 years I've had this phone, it had been fine with these two options turned on. It changed yesterday.
Let me know if this solution works for you.

Haha I was about to post this solution as well! Turning off the wifi in location accuracy fixed it. You're right about probably some Google app is causing this as this hadn't happened before yesterday. Sorry you had to format your phone to find this out...hopefully google or samsung can fix this from their end.
Thanks for this! Working for me (I'm on Tekxodus URv7.4R2 N5R9 with Emotion Kernel (r23).
Was driving me nuts. I'm a bit concerned about the loss of wifi for location accuracy though since my phone's GPS has been borked ever since i can remember.
Update: I noticed a recent review on the Play Store for Android Wear referring to a recent Wear update possibly causing the issue. I have Wear installed for a watch. Just curious if anyone experiencing this problem does NOT have Wear installed?

i have had exactly the same problem for a day or two. while disabling "location>improve accuracy>wifi scanning" stops the bug temporarily it doesn't really solve the problem. wifi scanning is an important location feature when navigating. in narrow streets or in buildings one usually does not have gps reception, also the wifi scanning technique for determining the devices location is usually faster and uses less battery than gps (how ironic).
this bug is extremely annoying. i am on an unbranded, unrooted s5 on 6.0.1 (g900f). i can not believe that this also happens with s7 and pixel phones, this is really ridiculous (see similar thread on androidcentral forum. can't post url because this is my first post). if anyone finds a permanent solution for this problem, please tell us!!!

Is it your GPS or the Compass? If it can still detect your location but when you use, for example, the Google Maps Navigation, it couldn't really detect where/which direction you're going then it's probably just a compass issue. All you need is some calibration.
I fixed my friend's phone compass issue (and she thought her GPS was broken too) last week. The easiest way to calibrate: just download the GPS Status app and tap on the Calibration option and follow the instruction there.
Always try to calibrate your compass first as the first possible fix whenever you think your GPS is starting to go crazy, it might help.
Go to location>improve location>unchecked wifi scanning. It just worked for me
Uninstalling android wear seems to have worked for me.

Definitely not the compass, been through the calibration process. Attempted many fixes including special GPS settings and utilities. At times the phone can sit there with screen on for over 10 minutes without acquiring a single satellite. I'm thinking hardware issue, possibly contacts for the antenna. In any case, not relevant to this thread...
I rebooted into recovery and wiped both CACHE and this fixed the issue. I did not change any settings in any apps either.

I had tried this prior to reformatting my phone and it didn't help. I then wiped the cache again and reformatted the phone; in fact I reformatted and cleared cache 3x because the issue kept coming back after I reinstalled apps again. This is weird, the situation and resolution vary a lot from one user to another. Then I simply turned off WiFi Scanning under Improve Accuracy in Location, and the issue went away.
WHEW! Uninstalling Wear and Home did it for me. For now, anyway. I "fixed" it this morning by toggling Ultra Power Saver on and off, and it worked all day until I came home from work. Then nothing helped until I found this thread. Changing GPS settings didn't do it for me, but I'm still on Lollipop so my location settings are a little different.
Thank you, Febzz and Alan!
Google home was the issue!!

Changes in router's Wireless Security had caused it in my case
This is old thread but still I am posting this solution as it could be useful tip for someone in future.
I had this issue and was causing me real headache. I initially thought it was hardware failure of my phone but later I found reason is something else.
For some reason I had changed Wireless Security of my WiFi router from WPA2 Personal to something else (I guess WEP).
That was causing my phone (intex cloud 4g) often to turn on and off WiFi on its own. I changed the Wireless Security back to WPA2 Personal and phone is now back to normal (not turning WiFi on and off on its own)
Hey All.
I have always used AOD as a night clock whilst its charging vertically.
But with this phone the AOD always goes off after about an hour.
Which sort of defeats the point of the feature really.
the setting is set to ALLDAY aswell.
is this a fault or is this how it is with phone.

I hear you. Best to ignore the phone and sleep.
Always being "connected" detrimental to your wellbeing. Quiet time is very underrated.
Lots of power management settings scattered throughout the phone, usually.
Check to see if global power management is running first: Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active. It can't be disabled here though.
Check each apk being used for AOD. Make sure they have needed permissions and that battery saving isn't checked.
Disable any power management including Android, 3rd party, carrier or manufacturer ones.
Try in Safe mode.
Clear system cache and AOD data.
Make sure screen lock isn't interfering with AOD.
With a factory reset even if it works the issue will likely reoccur. Exception is if a 3rd party app altered user hidden settings, this can and does occasionally happen with poorly written apps. Sometimes only after you uninstall them
Play with it, find the root cause... fun isn't it?

Feels good when you track it down.
I've tracked (and caused, oops) a few bizarre ones down
Stock Androids are generally very robust platforms.
Lately I have had a Oneplus 9, Oneplus 9 Pro and a Oneplus 10 Pro. In all of them, from Android version 12 (it also happens in 13), what is said here happens (AOD turns off at night even if it is programmed so that it is always active).
From what I see here, either it is a bug that has been introduced since the Oneplus and Oppo software were unified, or it is a crap that Google has put in Android since version 12 that there is no way to fix Because I've been trying things for a long time and reading in forums and websites and no solution to this problem is found anywhere.
For those of us who use our mobile phones as a nightstand clock, it is a great disappointment.

Welcome to XDA.
Tap on works fine for me and uses less battery. Constantly looking at the time when you should be sleeping is counterproductive and a bad habit to get into. For me the novelty wore off after about a year as I find it now annoying.
It's the same on OnePlus 8T, Oxygen OS 13. At least after midnight, maybe earlier, the screen turns black with AOD always on after roughly 25-30 minutes if non use. Double tap or more activates it again.
It's broken for people who is working nights and/or is awake and active after midnight.
There's gotta be a setting fixing this through root or adb shell.
Have turned off AOD as I don't need it nor want it and the white fingerprint circle pops up every ten seconds or so even though I've said I don't want AOD.
Has anyone else got this crap behaviour??

I'm sure if you tried it would do the same thing. Probably one of the many issues.
It's definitely a beta this firmware

Have turned off AOD as I don't need it nor want it and the white fingerprint circle pops up every ten seconds or so even though I've said I don't want AOD.
Has anyone else got this crap behaviour??

I even went so far as to disable the system AOD apk via an apk disabler tool & that did not work.
IDK if you ever found the actual toggle to turn it off......I finally found it by selecting the search result in Settings.
I typed in Always & stopped there,finding "Always-On Display".
The toggle is at the very top of the page (FWIW,I missed this earlier when in the settings,it was easy for me to overlook the toggle in dark mode).
If you've already tried this & it's still coming on,here's what I'm trying for the next day or so:
Turn Always-On Display back on & set a scheduled time for one minute.
For example,I've got it turning on at 4:00 A.M. & turning off at 4:01 A.M.
ATM,option 2,the scheduled on/off time,seems to be working.
EDIT;after a few minutes,AOD is coming back on.
This is annoying....... Not looking good as a keeper, not liking OxyColor OS at all, what a mess compared to the OP7T Pro.
Not just this, but, the settings layout (for individual app settings is a trainwreck & power/performance options not sticking, keeps reverting back to out-of-box settings.
Well I think I found a permanent fix for this...it's actually a bug (in my case anyway)
I was forced to wipe my phone, which was a huge pain due to a problem with a mod I'd installed..
Anyway on boot I set everything back up then realised it's got AOD on by default and I went a turned it off.
Low and behold it stayed off..no need to do anything.
So what I think has happened is the update that came recently (11_A.12) that could have caused issues, always good to wipe after an update.
I honestly don't know if this will fix things for you, but it did for me.
Couple that with the fact that I'm now getting unbelievable battery life...I think it's maybe a good idea to at least try, you may not fix your AOD but you may get better battery. As I did, I think you'll probably get both.
Here's a bunch of pics from the last 24 hours, midnight on Thursday evening /start of Friday up till now.
Absolutely amazing.

I just got the 1st system update for the T-Mobile US version.
The AOD option to turn it off is now working.
Here's what is/was strange, pre-update:
The only way I could see/access the Always-On Display settings/toggle was to have the stock OnePlus Launcher as the default home app.
Even then, AOD stayed on, whether toggled on or off.
I was able to figure this out from prior experience with the original Oppo Find X & VIVO NEX.
Very strange that certain (seemingly unrelated) settings would be hidden due to choice of home launcher, but, apparently,BBK doesn't see this as an issue/bug(feature, LOL) that needs to be addressed, guessing this "feature" is persistent on the home market China models/firmware.
Glad it was cleaned up for the T-Mobile US update.
On a somewhat related note, pre-update, I could not find a way to choose "No Lock Screen". I looked in the usual place to find such & it was not available, AFAIK.
Now, post-update, that setting is found in "Developer Options". (Why?????? LOL)
On an unrelated note, post-update, another bug has apparently been taken care of for the T-Mobile US version :
T-Mobile bloatware apps now stay disabled, if chosen to do so. Pre-update, they would re-appear after a reboot.
With these bug fixes, my outlook on keeping this phone has definitely changed for the positive. I still have about 10 days remaining before T-Mobile's buyer's remorse return window closes.
