Sometimes my volume up and down buttons don't do anything - no matter if media plays or not. If the screen then is left untouched and locked for like a minute the buttons react without any problem. If I then turn on the device again they stop working again for no reason... tried restarting the device, but this didn't help. Couldn't find any settings regarding this behavior as well...
Is this a known issue? Is this maybe a hardware related problem on my end?
Are you using a case?
To me it sounds like a software problem, but I am no professional by any means
It does feels like that when taking calls.. But overall during phone usage, I donĀ“t see this issue.
Maybe a hardware fault?
Found the culprit. I installed "Sound Amplifier" by Google and this seems to make the volume buttons unusable from time to time. Couldn't figure out why, but uninstalling the app fixed the issue for me...

I have had my Diamond for about 5 days now. The other day I noticed it will get stuck in a constant weak vibrate. It seems that a vibe event will cause it to start, like the phone doesn't know to stop vibrating.
I call it weak, because while it is doing this, I can go to volume settings, select Vibrate and the much stronger vibrate even occurs. It seems if I shake the phone or move it around a bit the weak vibrating will stop.
Also shaking the phone sometimes causes this weak vibrating to begin.
Sounds like a mechanical issue ? I have installed some apps like GSen & SensorLock. A couple others like Advanced Config and done some of the registry tweaks.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Un install sensor lock and test. i had this issue with an old version ofthat application.
I have uninstalled both GSen (Since it wouldn't rotate SMS for me on Sprint Diamond) and Sensor Lock. The device is still doing this strange vibrate.
I noticed even when I hold the power button and turn it off (soft reboot?) it continues the odd vibrate. The vibrate will however stop when I remove the battery.
Just giving an update. The phone has stopped doing this strange vibrate action. Not sure if it was related to the program un-installation or not. As stated above it continued to do the vibrating action after the program was uninstalled, but definitely less frequently.
I had something very similar the other day. I'm using the swift ROM.
Its never happened before, and i've been using this same rom a for a while now.
ya i have the sprint diamond and mine did that the one time when i took it off the charger. it would vibrate pulses and the phone was like frozen. So i plugged it back in the charger and uninstalled sensorlock and its fine now

Somewhat off topic but did you find anything that rotates in SMS on the Sprint Diamond?
Don't blame it on Sensor Lock. I don't have that program installed & mine started vibrating non stop the other day. I couldn't get it to stop & finally did a hard reset. It still continued to vibrate all the way to the point where it got to the green Windows Mobile screen. It stopped, after that & it hasn't happened again since (this was on Saturday). I had done some of the reg tweaks for TF3D performance & nothing else.
sensor lock was the only program i had installed so it was the reason for me. as far as i know only way to rotate SMS with sprint diamond is the long press key
I have also done some of the reg key tweaks on my diamond. It did happen again last night, but before that it's been a few days. I had GSen installed, and it wasn't rotating on SMS, I think I read it wouldn't work with the Sprint Diamond.
What is the long key press method?
Hello. I've had this device for awhile now and it's probably the best phone I've ever had.. except I started to have problems with regards to calls just recently. I actually rooted the device about 2 months ago and am currently using the Rombie mod v2 (JPC), if that helps. Anyway, the problem happens in the middle of a conversation, where the proximity sensor somehow disappears and the speaker mode is activated on its own (or maybe it gets in contact to my skin, I'm not sure, since the screen is supposed to remain blank). After that, the device becomes unresponsive: the touch sensitive menu and back keys don't work, and neither does the screen itself..but the hard key home button works and I could still hear the other caller via loudspeaker. I force a reset and everything goes back to normal (I mean this call issue doesn't happen all the time). I don't have any screen protector to affect the performance of the sensor. Anyone can help me out with this? Thanks!
Hey guys so I'm having the following problem, during a call when I put the phone near my ear and the screen turns off, sometimes the phone stucks, what I mean is the after I remove the phone from my ear the screen remains turned Off and the buttons do not respond.. But the call is still working.. I had gueste rom then I changed to cyanogen but the problem is still there...
Unresponsive phone perhaps, because as far as I know, nothing of the sort happened to me ever.
Also, does the screen light up when you end the call...let's say by using power button?
Not likely, but I'll mention anyway, check if anything is blocking the proximity censor - holding habit, cellphone case etc.
Similar issue, any way to disable the proximity senzor?

I have pretty much the same problem, the screen remain turned off after i remove the phone from my ear and i can't activate the screen or press any buttons until the other person terminates the call.
I run a proximity test from the Hidden Menu and the sensor detects as NEAR all the time even though nothing is in front of it.
I reinstalled several roms and i still encounter the same issue therefore it must be a hardware problem.
I would like to specify that i don't use a screen protector therefore the senor is not blocked in any way.
Is there any way to disable the proximity sensor completely?is there a application or a setting for that?

I have had the same problem, with many roms. I think if you are on some of the ICS roms, you will have to expect some bugs, like this. I am now on Temaseks build 135.1 with his kernel and I dont have any of these bugs. It seems ICS for our P990 is to be expected soon, so try a ROM as close to stock as possible and wait for our ingenious developers to get the last drivers working and you will see a lot of bugs disappearing. I would not recommend you to disable additional hard/software.
One app that has helped me though, with some of the ICS issues, is AnTuTu CPUMaster. A free app in Play and it allows you to set your minimum clockspeed a little higher than standard, I set mine around 400Mhz and it took care of many of the little bugs related to phone not reacting according to expectations.
Good Luck
Have the same problem and man... its a huge pain...
I am on the official CM7 latest release. I used to be on temasek's one and did not encounter the problem. As I can;t change ROMs these days, any quick fix, calibration app that would do the trick? Thanks!
I have recently purchased this phone via swappa and haven't had any issues prior to this and that has been three weeks (other than a light leak).
The issue that is happening is the LCD will not turn on. When the phone is unlocked via knock on or power button you can move your finger over where the lock circle would be and feel the vibrations showing that it does register the touch. Then usually I would just hold the power button till it rebooted and this would sometimes fix the problem, on a side note the boot LG logo and boot animation do not show up during this time simply the lock screen would randomly appear.
That is problem, now on to what I tried to fix it. I have put on an entirely different rom and the problem persists, I have also flashed a different kernel on the stock rom with no avail. I at first thought it could be due to a faulty proximity sensor, but the last time the screen was on I checked it with sensor box. One way I have been able to reproduce the problem is after locking it putting it in my pocket and waiting around five minutes, this then will make it so the LCD does not turn on ( Which makes it seem like it has something to do with deep sleep). Also something I just found since I was actually able to find the power off button, the screen also won't turn on when the phone is off and plugged into the charger (this makes it seem like hardware issue). It seems like as long as I keep the phone from going to deep sleep the LCD will turn back on.
Some of this makes it seem like a software issue other things make it seem like a hardware issue. I just was wondering if anyone had any ideas or if I need to buy a new screen, if the mobo is bad, or if I could fix this with software. Any and all ideas are welcome.
Thank you all in advance.
Does anyone else have this issue? It's really driving me crazy to the point where I feel like ditching the Nexus 6. It's not even every call, but it is enough to annoy me. Pull the phone away from my head and the screen wont wake up. All I can do is long hold power to force a reset. It's really annoying. I've tried the proximity fix for 5.1 but it still happens. I can't set "power to end call" because also sometimes the phone doesn't wake the screen when there is an incoming call so I have to press power to wake the screen to see who it is.
Does anyone have any idea how to get around this other than the two solutions above? This has happened on both my devices (Original and RMA) and I just can't take it any more.
I sounds like a faulty proximity sensor. And I've observed intermittent behavior like this on previous phones (but not my N6). You can test this with a number of apps. I've used "Sensor Box for Android", but there are several more. Prox sensor is located near the top LH corner. With the app open and on prox sensor, passing your hand over it should register on the app.
You are so active on this forum that I won't even ask about a screen protector....
The proximity sensor seems to work fine under all tests that I have done. I actually use Tasker to utilise the proximity sensor to set ringer volume based on whether it is activated or not (eg in my pocket, proximity sensor CLOSE, set ringer high).
Its not every call either and multiple Nexus 6 devices have had this issue for me too. Proximity sensor works in every test
That's weird. I've had no issues at all. I assume you have the issue on the stock ROM too.....
I suppose I'll have to test though I don't really want to run stock.
What about disabling Tasker and trying it out.
Happens with or without tasker. It's pretty much always done it since 5.1
There are known issues with the prox being flaky on this device. I just need to find a way to overcome this.
Remember, we need to separate problem solving from the idea of how we want our phone to look and perform. Once you've identified the root cause, you can then decide what steps you want to take to solve it.
*Sigh* Yes I know. But it's so intermittent I won't know if it solves it for a looooong time. It would be quicker to return to stock, sell it and buy something else
I've literally never ran stock on the nexus 6.
Like Camera indicated, I'd try removing the screen protector if you have one and see if it's better.
It's not a protector issue.
Let's assume I've done all the obvious things except flash stock
Edit. I'm going to try and use power button ends call. Just to see of its an active call that causes it.
Hopefully it will happen when I can take a log cat but inise the phone very rarely.
Try this app in the Playstore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vorlan.screenoncall.free
I had a similar issue where the screen would time out while I was on a call and wouldn't wake when I moved the phone away from my face. I had to hit power button to wake phone and enter pin just to end a call. I make/recieve over 100 calls per day and it was getting old til I found this app. Works perfectly every time.
Thanks but that's not the same issue. Mine will not wake at all. I have to force a reboot to get display
You might give the app a try just to see. It keeps the screen on during a call but the proximity sensor still shuts the screen off unless you are on speaker phone. It may not work, but worth a try to keep your N6!
I've seen the same thing with my N6, display goes black (randomly, not even related to a call) and the only thing I can do is reboot. Haven't wasted any time looking for a solution, 'cause I don't think there is an easy one and there is no way to know if something you try is even going to work! I just reboot and move on.
Just posting to let you know you are not crazy and there is someone else out there with the same problem!!!
I'm not sure what you mean. I've been recommended this app before but I don't like the idea of mybscreen being on.
What do you mean it keeps the screen on but proximity still shuts it off? .
Thanks for confirming
Basically it doesn't let the screen timeout. Proximity sensor still functions like normal.
I would try it and see.
If it helps good, if not no harm. It definitely fixed my issue, even if my issue wasn't exactly what you're experiencing.
Well power button end call didn't help. I don't think it is a proximity sensor issue. Let's hope it happens when I can get a logcat. Unlikely. Maybe a job for tasker.
I had this issue too. I eventually thought it was tied to UV, but then I installed all stock and didnt change anything and it still happened. Maybe a bug in lollipop.
