Ideal Drain Discussion on various ROMs - OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Let's make a thread to report the issues related to idle drain on custom ROMs. I have made this thread so that people can discuss issues related to battery life and help each other solve it. This is in no way to defame anyone. It's just a thread for discussion. I decided to make this thread because my device was active for most of the time. Very very less deep sleep

Well for some reference i flashed a rom and just magisk and fk kernel manager to track deep sleep. I was shocked to see that device wasn't sleeping well and awake for 80% or more of the time. It was without any 3rd party apps installed on ROM.
Just flashed ROM only and no verity zip. Didn't flash gaps as it was already built in. After doing the first boot and set-up. I flashed magisk and installed only 2 apps. Better battery stats and fk kernel manager to track the drain. So i guess I'm not doing anything wrong. Because i didn't restore any app or app data. I used to restore only back-up of apps using titanium backup. I never restore data. People always blame users that they used bad apps but without apps installed i assumed i could get better sleep. But it wasn't the case. Now I'm back to OOS and will update to you guys after a new update comes.

Another battery life thread? There's one since 2017: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/op5-battery-life-thread-t3624705

Thread closed.
In order not to clutter this forum I suggest to use the following thread "[OP5] Battery life Thread" for further discussion and/or sharing of observations and solutions.

[Q] VS98024A Battery Drain Issue on xdabebb's ROM

With all that out of the way, what I wanted to know was what specific, necessary apps are included in his ROM, as I suspect my high battery usage might be due to VZW and LG bloatware reinstalling itself from my Titanium Backup after successfully flashing his ROM, since I was running a rooted stock. My mistake, I realize, but I also noticed that I can't activate QuickWindow after flashing, even though KitKat works fine otherwise. I figured asking what apps are on the ROM might given me and others an idea of what is going on.
Also, could the battery drain be fixed by letting the phone go through a full charge/discharge cycle or two? I've heard that this has fixed similar issues on previous Android builds.
Thanks.
PLEASE DELETE, PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY SYSTEM/DATA/DALVIK/CACHE WIPING ON MY END.

[Q] Best ways to improve Nexus 6 battery life?

Currently, my nexus 6 has its boot loader unlocked and it's also rooted. It's currently running on the latest Cm12 nightly & franco.kernel. I get about 4 hours of screen on time. What are some tweaks that I can make to improve battery life? Any suggestioms will be welcomed, such as kernel settings, any flashable files, apps, etc. Thank you.:victory:
I just realized I posted in the wrong section, sorry about that.
questions go into q&a, not the general section.
edit.. mod moved the thread to q&a. go on as you would normally..
Its always worth analysing wakelocks. Location for example wakes up the phone a lot. The more frequent a phone wakes, the less deep sleep it gets

Which Custom Kernel Offers the Best Battery Life?

Ever since I updated my rooted OnePlus 3T to the latest Oreo Beta 19 update, my battery life has taken a huge hit! I no longer get about 6 hours of SOT. Therefore, I decided to flash Franco Kernel. However, the battery life continues to have the same short life span that I had running the stock kernel. Until OnePlus addresses this issue, I am asking everyone to please help me, along with the rest of the forum community who is having this issue, to please find a kernel that can contribute greatly with extending my battery life. If at all possible, please post a screenshot of your battery life, along with the custom kernel currently on your OnePlus 3T. (Note: Before you ask me, I simply would like to say that I DO NOT have any social media apps installed on my phone, which we all know contributes greatly to battery loss since they like to run in the background.)
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Battery life will vary from device to device, depending on the usage of the phone, the efficiency of the ROM on handling Wakelocks and more.
Most custom Kernels are all the same when it comes to battery efficiency and hardware interaction/communication.
I really don't think OnePlus should address any issue as it looks like the issue only persists on your device. I've read many posts about how good the life is on the recent Open Beta's based on Oreo, on the Stock Kernel.
If you don't have any Social Media apps, you must be having other User apps. You can check your Wakelocks and see how your device is woken and how CPU usage is taken up. Kernels won't do you any good if you have unnecessary Wakelocks.
Please try a clean flash without any restoration of data. If that does not fix your issue, I'd say you have a bad battery.
Cheers!

Oreo and nougat common problems in custom roms - for developers

3 main issues exist in all custom roms whether oreo or nougat.
1. Battery drain in standby is high even in airplane mode. No drain in stock rom overnight.
2. Battery consumption is very high while locking gps. 1400ma vs 300ma in stock oos.
3. Ola cabs app doesnt work when using microg. Some libs missing in roms vs stock.
Please fix these issues otherwise the rom becomes less useable.
The development section is not the place to post a thread for sharing your opinions about custom ROMs. Please read the sticky titled "Device Forum Rules (Please Read before posting)" to see what may or may not be posted here.
Also, the Developers are aware of these issues and will solve them as they have opportunity. There is no need to nag them about our personal preferences.

Battery drain is too high - what rom/kernel should I use?

I've been running Nitrogen Oreo for months with Elemental Kernel, I am also on Project Fi. Recently I've noticed my phone wont go into deep sleep and EX reports idle battery drain is ~8% / hour which is way too high.
I don't run any mods etc. My battery health is also good. Should I try another rom/kernel and if so which one. I was thinking of the new Pie roms but I don't think they are fully stable yet esp for things like wifi calling which I depend on.
Usually, it's an app or some special rom setting keeping the phone awake. If you can find out what, it's usually simple to fix.
Sometimes, the stats in settings->battery will tell you what is using the power. Or try app betterbatterystats.
If you can't locate the problem, then an app like greenify may help by forcing the badly behaving app to sleep. Or clean flash without restoring all your current apps.
And yes, stay away from pie if you need WiFi calling.
