I currently have an XDA IIs and the sound through the speaker is kinda meh, I'm thinking of getting a Touch Pro which I assume will have the same speaker as the Diamond and I'm wondering if you who have one will give me the heads up.
What's the quality/dynamic range like?
Is it loud?
Does it distort too much at higher volume levels?
I know some may question what I can expect from a phone speaker, lol, but there can be differences.
Thanks.
Not good. The sound is thin, so as the phone.
That was honest and helpful.
Thanks.

the sound from mine is fine, works like a charm.
The external speaker is for voice, if you want it to play "decent" music get some headphones or plug it into a stereo.
Could you tell me which music player you are using??
I am using the default player in TouchFlo3D. Tried built in speaker, bundled headphone, and my own headphone with 35mm mini plug adapter...all sound like old AM radio. No bass and high pitch is a bit scratchy.
Bluetooth A2DP + my headphone is much better, though far from perfect.

im using the builtin one, what encoding are you're MP3's?
Checked Media Properties by CorePlayer:
Audio: MPEG Layer-3
Codec: CoreMP3
Audio Format: 44100Hz 2Ch
Data Bit Rate: 320kbit/s
Duration ~4mins
FileSize ~10MB
Thanks walshieau. My problem with headphone is solved. It was due to buggy Audio Booster. More detail here:

Of course I agree with you that we can't expect too much from the built in speaker.
Sound from external speaker
I have Pocket Player for my TD and it has an equalizer built in that you can customize. I have the sound from my external speaker sounding very good, ( I think) with Bass. It doesnt rock my pocket...but...its much better than it was. I find it very acceptable.
not good for mp3 ringtone it like the speaker cant Handle it
the sound get crap when you turn up the volume

I come from a nokia 7710 (first real touch screen in the world) and that speaker was LOUD, the one on Diamond is kindo bad. Forget about bassss.
gbye.
Yeah, I think the problem is not just the quality, but the loudness too.
If you use this with a Sat nav program (e.g., TomTom), at the maximum volume the audio commands are not loud enough when driving and with the car's radio on
Anybody knows of any trick/tweak to modify the volume range on Diamond, even if it gets distorted, as I really just need loudness for sat nav directions.
I mainly listen to rap/r&b and found this to be the best balance of bass, treble and vocals for my device. It is tuned a little high on the treble but its a good compromise for Youtube dialogue, music, and maximum volume clarity. I can turn it to the maximum volume regardless of what is playing with little to no distortion. Considering the hardwrae limitation of the speaker I am surprised at how loud the Nook can go and still sound halfway decent.
Nook Tweaks > Audio Settings >

Warning: increasing DAC gain can lead to distortion or speaker damage

In case someone has not noticed, the Nook's volume / sound quality can be greatly enhanced by cupping your hand behind the speaker while holding it.
I wish there were more of these threads. I can't find a happy medium between headphone and internal speaker quality, and it seems like they are controlled by the same EQ in DSP Manager.
Your settings sound like crap in my headphones. Anything that sounds good on my headphones distorts the internal speaker.
Wow, thanks for bumping this. I was becoming concerned over the low volume of my NC speaker.
Thanks stir fry a lot, these settings are great!
Wow sounds good!
It is a bit higher treble, but its ok.
Is the 6th (far right) slider 0?

Get the Nook Color Tweaks app by Dalingrin. It allows you to set the analog gain of the headphones and external speaker independently of each other. It sounds like you just need to crank down the gain on your headphones.

I've tweaked mine a little since posting this but the far right one was at +.09. I'm not really sure what the far left was set at now lol. It may have been pulled all the way to the bottom. Glad this thread helped some people. No one really seemed to pay attention to it when it was initially posted.

Hey Dudes/Dev's
What i want:
I want to Create a Mod which us allow to use the Front Speaker+Side Speaker for Stereo Music
See Attached Pic...
I have tested the Loudness of the Front Speaker and i think the Volume Level is nearly the same to the Side Speaker!(?)
I want to let the Music play over the 2 Speakers like:
Front (Call-)Speaker=Left Audio Channel + Side (Loud-)Speaker=Right Channel=Stereo!?
Click to collapse
Steps:
-1. Find files which include the Speaker config. Maybe lib-so files?
-2. Find the right way to edit. Maybe i can compare the files between Tablet Z and Xperia Z to find the diffrence?
-#. Edit files to -> Playing Music-> 2 Speaker's active (2 Channels Left-Right),Call Option1-> 1 Speaker active,Call Option2-> 2 Speaker active
-3. Find a Way to make both Speaker's to the same Loudness Level
maybe more...
I really don't know what's needed for this so Please Help!
BR
Good idea
Another excellent idea, though sound when watching movies is allready pretty good, true stereo imaging would be a massive plus.
Good luck with this

Sounds like a good idea but then again, earpiece is not nearly as powerful as the main speaker and can result in funny stereo audio lol FYI, the stereo speaker positions are a bit weird
In order to achieve in what you want, we need to route all audio playback to play on two channels which is the earpiece and speaker at the same time. We can either do this on a specific configuration file or kernel modifications. I am not sure how to do this as I haven't tried before but it's a start
It's too bad that Sony did not make two speakers positioned like the HTC one... Would of been epic...

wow didnt see you Replied to this thread nice to hear from you...
It's really bad with the Speaker Position... sometimes my right hand mute the Speaker
but back to the idea... it's like you say,the Earpiece is not really Powerful (It's a really Clear Speaker, but no Bass) so you think it's not loud enough for stereo? Maybe we can use it to Support the other speaker (more Virtual Sound or such,i think you know whats good )
The Point is still to find out how we can use the second speaker :crying:
the only idea i have is to find the related files and watch the same files on a Stereo Speaker Tablet to see what we need to change...
when it works we have really found a General Mod for a lot of Devices with low Volume Speaker Devices.

You won't find any related files which will route your speaker and earpiece together.
We need to re-route the audio playback with earpiece and speaker activated at the same time to make both speakers to sound like stereo. If you compare with Tablet Z, you will not find anything because the configurations for that is to route audio playback to both the speaker components and if we do that then it still won't work because we don't have that 2nd speaker.
If we can re-route the speakers into stereo, then we can manually increase the earpiece to make it sound as loud as the main speaker
This is just an idea remember, I don't actually know how we will do this
Any progress on this excellent idea?

Sometimes when I use my headphone and switch in different songs or apps that use audio output, there will be a difference of volume between the left and right channels. I have to stop my music for about 5 seconds to recover to the normal output.

It's definitely a bug which only exists in Oero builds. You shouldn't give up your right to enjoy stereo music to escape from facing this bug. :crying:
Moreover, sometimes the audio stops from reproducing through the speakers and reproduces from the earpiece... Have to reboot to fix it temporarily.

as far as i know Mono Audio mean NOT stereo but only 1 speaker
so if its ENABLED thats mean you will hear from one speaker only
but DISABLE it and your stereo should be ok
i think Oneplus put this option because they have only one speaker in the phone
and to make all the sound come from it they combined the
2 stereo channels in one using this option

Hello guys,
I'm facing a problem that the audio is so weak or low using the headphones, I tried many headphones but nothing also I tried to fix the equalizer but nothing...
I don't know what to do with this problem however i tried these headphones with other mobile (iPhone 5s) the sound was really really cool.
Anyone is facing this problem?
Thanks in advance
No. Sometimes the sound gets made a lot quieter and you look at the screen and it's not saying anything, so you increase the volume and only then do you get a message about volume damaging your hearing you have to ok before actually increasing the sound.

I already did that and the sound level is full but still low in the headphones
There is effects settings for headphones turn it off and the sound will be good, but via inbuild speaker it will be weak then.

I do still I didn't notice, the I feel like the voice is kinda low when I use Spotify, but it works perfect with Poweramp, though I use FLAC
Can anybody tell me why sound level and quality is so low? Can't listen to my favourite music because it sounds like crap. I'm using BT headphones.

Have you used decent headphones? I know people often use Bluetooth headphones but they are terrible (the protocol lossily encodes audio so even if you started with FLAC that's not what you'd end up with in your ears)? I listen exclusively to FLAC via both decent Sennheiser headphones and cheap Philips earbuds and they both sound great to me (via Rocket Player). So you have a problem but I don't think it's your choice of phone.
