Why it is so quiet here ?

Hi,
is there any reason because it is so quiet in S4 Active Rom section ?
On my old device HTC sensation i could flash five news rom a day, if i want.
ok we have a deoxed stock and one nearly working CM 10.2.
Last days, i saw for 2 hours, a S4 Active Miui thread, it is deleted.
i wish me a AOSP AOKP CM & MIUI Rom for our "better" S4.
And i want to flash @ minimum twice a day but it seems i have to wait.
i hope there would be a big customrom scene in the future for i9295.

Yes there is - its called "SAMSUNG". You may ask why? Basically it comes down to this: Samsung announced the S4 heavily and sold it a few months before announcing the S4A. The result: No one bought the S4A because they own the S4 already. Why should they update? In my case the screen and the additional protection was worth waiting a bit longer but for most other users... Also many of them will be on a two year contract and selling their device to get a new one isn't an option (Not just warranty wise).
To sum it up: Samsung released too many devices in a too short time and the S4A was too late.
Also look at their release sheme: totally locked up in the US, more open - but really late - in most of the european countrys. Not very tempting for devs... I sincerly hope for a few latecomers otherwise I may have to learn to program myself :silly:

So im realy happy that LeJays Rom is running
But since my first SE P800 i was always nervous in Rain and sport actions to frag my Smartphone.
Now i am a bit relaxed if it starts to rain or if i starts to sweat
And i think also i would never buy a normal S4 because i dont like the over-colored and blue Oled displays.
So in my opinion the S4A is the better S4.

This x2. I only bought the S4A because I was in Hawai'i at the release time (S4s are around 1k here and S4As are going for $1200 bucks). I was using a Rugby Smart and decided that I wanted JB (or at least ICS), GB just wasn't cutting it any more. Personally I don't care about ROMs, only root so I'm still happy with my S4A.
Everyone I know here either bought the S4 or iFail 5, and now that both of those have waterproof cases the S4A isn't even a consideration for them. They think it's cool that I don't 'need' a case for the waterproofing, but it's not really a big deal any more. Plus S4s are coming available 2nd hand, the S4As aren't (yet).

Well here's the good news:
Hashcode just posted Safestrap for the GS4A I537 (the US AT&T model specifically) in another thread (you can find it yourself) and it works fine so far in my testing.
So this means - TADA!!! - that we can now play around with our AT&T GS4A's at will without messing up the stock ROM which we can't even replace at this point.

Specific for the I537, there are two current ones:
[AOSP][Port]★I9295★ Official 4.2.2 - S4 Google Edition - Feel the Experience of Nexus
which is the one I'm using at this very moment, just got it installed in slot 1 using Safestrap, and I also flashed the kernel modules that Hashcode packaged and are required to get the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc working - the camera does NOT work on that ROM as of yet, it's a very common problem with custom ROMs and different devices, especially a port like that one, so work is in progress to fix it. As long as you can totally absolutely live without any camera usage at all, everything else seems to be working just fine but realize I just installed it and I'm testing features right now even as I'm finishing this post.
The other ROM available is the CM10.2 Android 4.3 build located here:

Now, I've tried to install that one several times since last night but it fails on the build check. I've modified the build.prop file to match what the I537 is and should be detected as but I've had zero success so far. I'm not the best ROM "modder" out there so perhaps someone else with more skill and experience could modify that ROM so it will install on the I537 and we can see how Android 4.3 works on it - I'm fine with some of the hardware potentially not functioning as long as it allows for installing it and firing it up.
So far, so good. The AOSP ROM is working without issues that I've noted. Just ran Antutu 4.0.1 for the hell of it and got 22188 - now again, I just finished installing that ROM, it's been rebooted maybe 3 times in the past 30 minutes, and of course we all know ROMs take time to "settle" on a device so I expect that score may go up a bit after a few days of using this ROM. Yes I miss the camera but I can deal with it presently, and I can always reboot into the stock ROM anytime if absolutely necessary.
Just for the record, my "high score" with Antutu 4.0.1 with this GS4A was 25946 right after I bought it, which placed it above the HTC One by a small amount. That put a big smile on my face, but I've yet to achieve that score again.
This thing is a win-win now...

EDIT: Update - Bluetooth is working fine for me with the AOSP ROM as well, just paired up with my Jawbone JAMBOX in a few seconds, seemed to connect much faster than the stock ROM, actually, and it sounds better as odd as that might sound. Perhaps some improvements in the Bluetooth stack, I have no idea, or I might just be hearing things.

Are iOS updates better?

So I know by posting on here that I am having issues with my iPhone experience, I'm going to get hammered with comments and people thinking. Well what did you expect was going to happen.
Since switching from android to iOS, I've started getting involved in macrumors forum.
The forum is littered with hundreds of people commenting on bugs with the new iOS update. It seems to affect people at random. However, my wife was having a lot of issues and problems with her 5 after updating to iOS 8.0. Which was released two days before the iphone 6 came out. I was the first to download it and honestly haven't experienced any bugs with it that a lot of others are having.
But the simple fact that so many people are having problems with the update really pisses me off and really makes me question Apple in general. Or maybe just iOS. I know that Apple makes a really good operating system for their macs but honestly I think iOS doesn't even come close to the quality of OS X for their macs.
But how in the world can Apple release such garbage when it comes to system software updates. I had heard about people in the past updating their older iPhones to the latest versions of iOS and reporting that it slowed their phone down. But this is the first time I've seen it with my own eyes.
Heck one of main reasons I left android is because I wanted a phone that would receive the latest updates. But if they are garbage, then what's the benefit. People will keep saying, oh they'll release an update to fix it. Which is what ends up happening. They released iOS 7.0 last year and then they spent the rest of the year releasing minor updates to fix all the bugs.
So before iOS was released, the latest version was 7.1.2. I feel like I'm back on android installing custom roms that are in beta.
And as I was watching my wife restore her phone back to the previous version 7.1.2, I saw all of the headache and frustration it caused her. I saw her stress level go up because it was so difficult to do. Even then, she had to reset her phone twice. Then as she was fixing all of her notifications, she was getting frustrated with how difficult it was finding all of her notification settings. It's like you have to do a lot of digging through the settings to find how to adjust them and I was remembering how simple it is to change settings on an android.
I know I'm rambling and will probably get this thread closed down. Maybe not. But I had to shared frustrations somewhere.
I know it will be difficult for me to convince my wife that I would like to switch back just over this because my current phone is the fourth phone in two years. I sold two android phones because I was addicted to rooting and flashing roms. So I bought my 5s through Verizon's edge program and am paying an extra $37 a month for my 32gb version. It was by far one of the most expensive phones to get on edge. So I was able to talk her into my getting the 32gb 5s.
At this point I could find someone on Craigslist who is willing to swap phones with me but I'm only willing to accept an M8 or G3. I've seen both of those on there but again I'm not sure I could talk her into letting me back on android. I feel like of the two phones, the M8 is something if be more happy with. It will probably receive more updates than the G3 but the G3 has the better camera.

I’ve always had Android phones and only one iPhone but I like the fact that Apple sends OTA updates at the same time for everyone. I hate how Google and the Manufacturers/Carriers perform a gradual OTA updates that take weeks or sometimes even months... although as you said Apple does prompt updates but full of bugs

Oh yeah, like they "rigorously tested" the 4.4.4 update that, despite being months behind the release on other carriers, still managed to reduce my battery life from "this easily lasts well into a second day" to "it's dead by the time I get out of work from just idling," even after multiple factory resets?

OK, so let me get this straight. My phone was happy and pretty solid. Battery life was decent and I rarely had to reboot it. I have gone several weeks without an issue or reloading it.
Now, in preparation for 5.0, they push 4.4.4 on me and the interface now crashes regularly, battery life is less than 10 hours and I have to reboot it about every two days. I have missed several calls trying to swipe and answer only to have it ignore my every attempt. How much worse can 5.0 be than the 4.4.4 I have now. Are they testing 5.0 as rigorously as they did 4.4.4? How about letting us go back a version until they can budget enough people to test 5.0?

Funny thing I've been really happy with 4.4.4 and only a few minor issues. Battery life has been the best so far for me.
I'm sure lollipop with be out by the end of March for AT&T anyways. My son in law has it on Verizon and is not really that impressed with it. I'd rather them get it as right as could be than rush it TBH.

im so happy to be on a rooted 4.4.2 NG3 that is blocked from updates. I think I liked ND3 better on battery life.

I completely agree. My phone was pretty solid and my wife's too...now we are both ready to throw them out a window. No battery life, lots of reboots and lost calls. I'd rather have 5.0 sooner than later, but May 22 my Saygus V2 ships. I may be done with Samsung for a while.

After I got the OTA update to 4.4.4, my phone ran like crap! I downgraded back to 4.4.2, rooted and disabled all OTA apps. My phone is now running great on 4.4.2/NG3.

I replaced my phone and upgraded to 4.4.4 from stock NG3. Bluetooth issues that annoyed me such as when playing music from scratch from my radio, it would play some random ringtones. Had to manually select Google music. Downgraded to 4.4.2 and had major wifi issues due to OA1 baseband and older ROM. Realized I left re-activation lock on which wouldn't disable in 4.4.2. Flashed back to stock ND3, wouldn't boot. Did the NG3 to NCE downgrade with the reactivation lock on. Was successful and once I upgraded from NCE to NG3 stock, I was able to disable the lock. Flashed my NuclearFallout ROM back on and ran with it. This will be my last Samsung phone, I'm going Nexus next. Can't stand AT$T adding crap to my device without my permission when I'm running stock.

I can't even read the article on my phone, there's so many pop-ups, side load ads, and auto-start videos.
I will say that the 4.4.4 update pushed out to my S5 Active effectively killed my phone.
Windows ME was more responsive than this.

Never read or post links to sites that force you to mute your computer due to invasive ads. When you see sites that look like that with "news" stories, ads that adjust size as you're reading, ads that keep playing no matter how many times you pause, just hit that "x" button up there. Chances are wonderful that you didn't miss out on anything.

I just a week and half ago decided it was time to buy a house (living in a double wide for 14 years). Filled out loan preapproval, next day had answer. Met with my new realtor at houses. Saw five homes, 5th one was THE ONE. Put an offer, offer accepted same day. Escrow opened. Sent loan paperwork and down payment today. Escrow is 30-45 days. Moral of the story? I will have decided to buy a house and move in BEFORE AT&T gives lollipop to ANY Samsung device I own. At least I have something to occupy my time.

So much for this being their flagship phone on AT&T...

don't lament just yet, even tho it is rolling out to the AT&T Note 4 it is still version 5.0.1 and most of the die hard note 4 are sticking with the 4.4.4 at least until we have root or at least until there is a verifiable way to roll back to 4.4.4 if root is achieved. unfortunately for us Note4 owners currently there is no Odin firmware for 4.4.4 and AT&T is releasing 5.0.1 via OTA only.
just hang in the advantage you users have is there are devs with working L roms that you can flash once you get the official release and root is confirmed still working.

phone is working slow for the past weeks/months

Hello everyone,
My HTC One is working very slow since the last major update (if i recall correctly). Even when i'm typing a message the phone can't keep up with me typing in text (and i don't even type that fast).
Its been perhaps 2 months and i kept telling to myself that HTC is/was going to fix this with a new update, but so far i keep getting no updates for my phone software itself. And now i'm fed up with it and i need help. I'm not a big smartphone/tablet enthousiast but there shouldn't be any malware or something keeping its speedcapacities down.
About a half year ago almost every 2 weeks there was an update and now the things that needed updates are google/youtube and others app's i've got installed. It's like they've abboned the 3 year old system or something

M7 reached it's EOL recently, don't expect new system updates... Latest version is android 5.0.2 with Sense 6

Android isn't the same what it used to be and it's boring modding it now.

I've been a user at xda since 2009 (I lost my old account's password). And I was deeply in love with it and all the people.
MY EXCITING XDA EXPERIENCE-
1) Galaxy Y
I got here when I bought my first Android device Samsung Galaxy Y (S3560)*(Totoro) in 2010 when I was 11 and in 8th grade. It has Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. But I wasn't happy as most games like Temple Run and Subway Surfers didn't run on it due to it being Armv6.
And somehow, I found a youtube video which linked to xda where it explained if I rooted and upgraded my device, it would've got m running all my favorite apps! I was happy and then I learnt upgrading and all. I never knew that there was a fake ICS Update with build.prop modded on it and believed it to be original
It wasn't easy. I ended up bricking my device and crying all night unable to fix it. My dad took it to Samsung and they repaired it and warned me never to do this again or it will get spoiled forever. I got **** scared and never touched it for another 6 months until curiosity struck me when I got a notification of an ICS Mod (I still didn't read the log and thought it to be real). And I ended up bricking it again. I was so scared. Later I found out Odin. Yup. Odin was literally an angel that saved my life and boom! I had my original device back! I tried thrice and then got the ICS mod! It looked so cool that I used to stare at my phone for days without doing anything. Later I installed an unstable CM9 which was original but didn't have Bluetooth, WiFi, Mobile Network, Brightness, Sound, and Playstore working. It was useless. I got to know that Broadcomm didn't release the drivers and needed large donation to do so. I never got to know about it.
I ended up trying hard to install GTA, etc on it but everything failed.
2) Blackberry Playbook
Now this wasn't on xda I believe when I got it. My father bought it as a gift in 8th grade. It had almost nothing except NFS Undercover. I heard that you could install Android on BB Playbook by rooting it and all once it has OS ver. 2.0.4 or 2.0.6. But I already upgraded it to 2.1.x. Now I felt like breaking my head because there was no going back.
3) MOTO G (XT1033) (Falcon)
This was my first google device and I was so happy to get it because it was super mod friendly. I got it after my 10th board exams in 2014 and I loved it through and through. Suddenly upgrading from 2.3.6 (Galaxy Y) to 4.4.4 with a bigger screen and armv7 processor was heaven! I enjoyed it a lot and loved it! It was like a treasure for me. I had to slap myself 4 times when it came to me through Flipkart online shipment. And I installed tons of mods on it. i loved it. Especially the android 5.0 part.
4) MOTO G4 Plus (XT1064) (I dont even know it's developer name)
I got it when I completed my 12th grade
Now comes the boring part. The phone was capable of multitasking, etc but it was still boring. This is the only device that I haven't unlocked the bootloader yet. Why?
NOW COMES MY POINT ABOUT ANDROID BECOMING BORING -
The phone Moto G4 had everything I needed. 32 GB, great camera, great RAM, great processor and only 208.30$. Great deal. It's still with me and I'm in College B. Tech. 1st year doing Electrical Engineering. But I've lost the excitement of modding and rooting. Have I grown up? Newer versions of Android do not interest me. I remember waking up till midnight 3 to watch the unveiling of android 5.0! Loved it but now it's all done. BORED!
Maybe because we have everything that we need in android.
And I do not know what more can be added to android to make it interesting. CyanogenMod used to excite me with its features but I don't feel like I need them now. Everything seems so changed.
Do you guys think it i common to feel like this? Or I'm a special snowflake who is a boring person....

Dude even I have left flashing ROMs. I have HTC Desire. Even I feel that rooting, modding, theming android is waste of time. I am not happy with stock ROM, but now I also dont want to go back and start the flashing game and install CM. Got tired of this. I have also lost interest in Android versions. They nowadays are pretty much same eg: Lolipop=Marshmallow=Nougat (90% are same).

So did ICS = JB = KK.
You cannot expect radical changes in open source software such Android or Linux distros . They need some time to settle in. Although the UI is pretty much the same with different versions of Android, under-the-hood, the features are pretty exciting :laugh: . I used to have a mindset that Lollipop == Marshmallow, but the native Google API support for Fingerprint was darn exciting. before Android M, OEMs used to have their own APIs for fingerprint support, but when Google introduced the FP API, you can now authenticate purchases using your FP rather than entering that darn password. The Doze feature in Android M was awesome, although it can be achieved in L using apps, it was a big reason for me to uninstall 'Boosting apps' from my friend's phone. Now the doze feature got even better in android N.
The reason why '90% of the code are the same' is because it is an Open source and is an update, not a complete rewrite of the code.
That '90%' is the 'Android part' and the remaining '10%' is the 'update part'.
Fun fact: Human gene is 98% similar to Gorilla gene. That 2% difference makes us humans .

You cannot expect radical changes in open source software such Android or Linux distros . They need some time to settle in. Although the UI is pretty much the same with different versions of Android, under-the-hood, the features are pretty exciting :laugh: . That made a lot of sense though! But I don't give a damn about FP and wallet (I've never done online purchases). I feel my interest towards games going down as I'm growing up as well.( It's so boring to grow up )
Anyways, I hope Google changes the UI in the next update. Never felt so bored. And most of the CM themes are pretty old and not innovative. You'll get bored after 2 days of installing themes and will want to revert back.
I really do hope Google changes the UI. I'm desperate for some new UI now. Not 1 or 2 apps but the whole thing like it was from KK to Lollipop and GB to ICS! Yummy!

I can feel you, the urge, passion or whatever-you-call-it for modding have definitely come down. I don't know if it is because of the age or is modding is becoming easier and easier. Back then was the days of CWM and CM10 while Paranoid Android was for the elite devices. Now you can find modding easier than ever, everything is just a few clicks away. You can find each and every ROMs for each and every device, which made the whole fun of modding only for the end results rather than the sheer fun of the process of modding.
I remember when I got my first Android device, a tablet with Allwinner A13 chipset with a single core processor and 512 MB RAM. Before I got that tablet I was using Nokia N70 and Nokia E71, both based on Symbian S60 OS. I learned a lot about 'hacking the phone' (it's just like rooting but allows you to install apps not signed by Nokia) app signature, app installation and modifying the system partition. So when I got my tablet, modding it came to me naturally. It was a device totally off the RADAR of android devices, but fortunately, it came with a pure AOSP version of Android without any manufacturer modifications in it which made it a tad bit easier for me to mod that tablet. I discovered rooting, apps to bypass in-app purchase called as 'Freedom' (Lucky patcher got this feature long after freedom was released), Xposed modules and Game guardian. All these mods and apps let me enjoy my device without getting bored. But it was not enough for me, then I came to know about custom ROMs, there is no custom ROM available for my device, I did vague searches on Google and got links to some 5 ROMs made specifically for my chipset (not my device). I tried all of 'em but they had a lot of bugs etc. So I went back to the stock firmware by doing a fastboot flash. At the same time I also discovered ADB, I still remember when my little brother entered the wrong pattern more than 40 times, and when there was no other way, I used ADB to disable screen lock and factory reset my device. I did the same for two of my friends.
And that's how I came to learn a lot about Android.
BTW,
Now look at any kind of Android modding, there is some kind of 'one-tap' app available. Take, for example, Enabling Google Assistant on non-pixel devices, you have to edit your build.prop manually but there are 5+ apps available on Play store that does the same thing. There is no hard work involved, and the end result will always be underwhelming unless you yourself mod your system.
One of the best thread I came across recently was enabling Pixel's Round icons on other 7.1 devices. It requires you to decompile and recompile your framework.res file. Now that's what I call as real modding. Although the result is minor and can be easily achieved by installing a third party app and applying a custom icon pack, the sheer feeling of accomplishment you get by modding is just unparallel.
And one last thing,
The best modification you do for your phone is getting back the new features of the new Android version in your current Android version.

Mate, you've got an excellent point. Modding is not modding anymore. It's one touch and boom! You get CyanogenMod. It used to be fun to try and use CWM and get the result but now.... It's too easy. That's what's made it boring. Also, I'll try a few mods later. You actually motivated me! Thanks.
