Hi all,
not sure if anyone else has this issue. When I record anything with my RP2, whether its on snapchat, camera or audio recorder, the slightest bit of bass within the recording massively distorts the whole thing. Razer were no help as they didnt understand what I was saying or trying to explain. Its always had this issue as far as I can remember.
Anyone got any ideas?
Tried the factory settings ect and updating.

Hi!
Well, since I've flashed CM (had Stock, MIUI and iHackers before), I'm having problems with the sound recorded by the microphone(s). It sounds like there is a very agressive high-pass, along with a noise gate f*cking up the sound. I think it could be related to a miss-configuration noise-canceling mics placed like all around the device.
I checked earlier recorings with the iHackers ROM, they're all crystal clear. I also tried different recording apps and video cameras, manually adjusted the digital gain, but everytime I get unusable recordings, they're quiet, muffled and just overall sh*tty.
Well, I hope I'm not the only one experiencing this, and I really hope someone could help me.
Bye
Julian

On ihackers... Could you then get an okay recording of.. Let's say a concert. ? I have the same problem, the sound is like being run over by a bulldozer..

Yeah, exactly. I didn't record any concerts with it, but filmed at a local music store as we tested out some guitar amps (pretty loud if you know ). Audio was crystal clear, no distoring, no muffeling, just as I talk from the back of the phone it sounds a little weird.
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S5 (G900A) where my video recordings are noisy.
Even in the quietest of conditions I hear this hissing sound in the background in my videos that I record using my phone camera.
I've searched the web and found out that I'm not the only one, but I can't seem to find any solution to it.
I've cleared the cache partition, the phone isn't wet...
Any suggestions? Such an expensive phone with such a big problem...
I want to try this hack to enable stereo sound on the phone but I am not sure if it's for the ATT version and if it'll work with the current ROM (stock, rooted Android 5.0.0 rom)... is there a similar thing available for my phone here? Or am I safe to try this hack?
Well, that hack works... I now have stereo sound (or something resembling it... now plays music through both speakers) but that didn't help with the camera thing...
I was kind of thinking that the hack had to do with microphones and not speakers... had to read more into it.... but the hack is still nice lol
I've read online of people fixing the issue by using a pin to clear the holes in the case where the microphone is... well I tried that (using the dull edge of a needle) and now the recording is much louder but the noise still exists (this hissing).
I've just been testing the stereo speakers in a quiet environment, by speaking from either side of the phone, however on playback I can initially hear white noise and slight rustling and then the audio just cuts out completely at the point that I spoke in the recording.
I'm a bit perplexed as to what is causing the issue. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I have encountered the same issue. The phone completely stops recording sounds in video mode
Had the same issue.
Changed codec to h.264 in camera settings in Video Size section and all of problems had gone.
But the phone still cuts sound after ~3 sec while recording in applications like snapchat or messenger.
Edit: After restarting the phone both applications record sound
So this problems still occurs, despite being on the latest update.
Anyone else encountered this? Just wondering whether it's worse doing a full reset
I have the same issue. Do you have other sound apparatus BT associated? It seems to be linked with BT associated sound with my car. It comes back after turning off and on the phone.
Still quite annoying..
Reboot your phone.
Turn off all Bluetooth devices and Bluetooth on phone.
Try another camera app.
Turn off accessibility features.
Clear data for the camera app.
Verify the mic is working on other apps.
Verify permissions for the camera app.
Are you on a stock firmware or did you perform a different kind of upgrade?
What ROM / firmware.
Thanks for all those tips.
Emui 9 as I had the phone. I bought the P20Pro used two weeks ago and upgraded Ota to 203. I did not tried the camera before the upgrade so don't know the issue was already there.
I have found same issue with P30 Pro.
I'm normal camera mode I had the shutter set to mute.
When then going to video mode this setting carries over and sets mute too.
Still testing if other apps and services can override this setting when

If you wish to silence shutter on camera but not use the native camera setting to do so, use tasker to mute the phone when camera app is launched.
This mutes the shutter sound but does not stop video audio from recording.
Hi guys, Huawei P30, ELE-L29, EMUI 9.1.0.153 (C431E4R2P2)
All videos recorded using the phone have sound when played back on the phone (with 80% volume setting) but it can be hardly heard after taking such a video file to YouTube or any other smartphone/computer. Mic gain problem?
I have the P20 Pro and although all setting on video are set to mute it still records sound and it's really annoying as I cant turn the dam thing off, someone techy please help, I'm going back to apple when my contract is up don't like this at all, camera is amazing and only reason I moved back to an android tbh, thanks x

Mute won't mute the video audio, I think it's for UI sounds whilst in the camera app, don't think you can disable audio whilst recording..
Why do you want to? Just curious.
Just to add, I ran into the same issue on my fully update P30 pro.
I was out on vacation and recorded 3 videos back to back. 4K30, HEVC. When I tried the play them back, I found no audio was recorded. The video does have an audio track, but when I pull it out and look at it, it has nothing. Very annoying when you record something that you'll prob never see again in your lifetime (unless you return someday) and find out it didnt work right.
If I test right, everything's working fine. This is the first time this has happened.
I am facing an issue with my video calls with all firmwares of global rom since first release untill 12.5.4. the issue is the other side can't hear me well as the volume is really low, and if a group of us are on the video, only the holder of the phone is heard, and the rest are heard like speaking under water.
Tried several apps, all types of available video calls and all same, DUO, messenger, imo, line, Skype, etc.
However, if speaker is on instead of video call, the sound is amazing. Tested mics of all 3 of them and working perfect.
Anyone facing same issue and was able to resolve it? Please let me know how to get it sorted as it is really annoying.
Nothing here I'm afraid, sounds like a mic issue

Tested mic and tried with speaker, video recording and voice calls are all perfect, except video calls using third party apps only
The First thing I can say is to force stop those apps and clear cache and data and see if the issue persists, try also a reboot after done it

Done, done ,done and a factory reset also done. I believe It is something related to software priorities or algorithm to reduce ambient noise but in a bad way instead of a good way.
As example, I make a phone call with my parents on video call using duo, if my daughter is far around 2-3 Meters from the phone then they would hear her like speaking under water, if further they would not hear her, if closer would be okay. Also, even if close to the phone the volume is lower than usual. However, if it is a voice call with speaker, everything is loud and clear.
This concludes to me as a software issue or apps compatibility with this device. I cannot find a solution, and I see it a very common issue with many devices as well, not only mi 11 ultra, but for this device I cannot find a solution.
Try to make a video call using Duo with people around you, the other side will hear you only and with a lower volume than usual. If you use WhatsApp it is slightly better but still poor.
What Cover do you have? Did you try the same with the phone without cover? Because I don't have this issue (using WhatsApp)

With cover or without cover, same issue
Would much appreciate if anyone got an idea of what is going on and can explain it
a new update

I found what is the cause, it is called voice gain or volume gain. it is set as low by default and cannot be changed except by root. there are a few applications that can boost gain. as gain by default is set at 1 and can go as high as you could. an app called (Microphone Amplifier) is a simple app that really helped me with it for now but still needs more testing. the app got a very low rate because of no instructions how to use it and very poor UI, but the function is simply what am I looking for.
if anyone have an idea to fix the microphone gain without root please share it with me.
I've tried SetEdit but couldnt find the correct lines (tried volume_voice_xxx) but non of them worked.
Hi everyone, just noticed this last couple of days. I wasn't even looking at this before, but last few days I did record some videos on concerts etc. The quality is really weird I mean bass sounds so much boomy and takes everything else so much that you can't event heard other stuff. I've checked bitrate as I've seen bunch of threads on this related to Xiaomi phones, but it seems to be at 316kbs which should be okay. Not sure if there is some setting or something that can fix this or if there is some workaround. Let me know if you know anything that might solve this. Thanks in advance
