Every time I get a text message and go to the app to respond then leave the app as I normally do, the new text message icon will stay there until I either open the notification blind or lock the phone. Is anyone else having this? I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I tried clearing the cache for the messaging app and also toggling notification permissions.

Getting the white message symbol in the task bar is driving me crazy especially when using chompsms or smspopup.
I've got into my default messaging settings and turned off notifications but still get that annoying icon every time I get a message.
what am I doing wrong?
Open up your msg app, then hit the menu button, get into settings, change it.

hey there!
Normally I always come to a solution, but this one is hard... while it seems easy.
Been searching the web for a while now, but no one seems to have this exact problem.
Problem:
Everytime I receive a Text/SMS message, i get notified by a white envelope in the notification bar. it says: 'New Message(s)' with beneath it 'You have an unread message'. So then I click on the icon/text and my message app (handscent SMS) launches. I can reply etc. but when i return to my home screen (doesn't matter if i tick the 'back' button of the 'home' button) the white envelope is still there. So i have to open the notification bar and press 'clear'. ****@NOY!NG!!
Thing is that I don't know which app notifies me, so i can't turn it off! I already ticked-off all the notification boxes (and sounds) is the system message app as well as in handscent sms. But that damn white envelope is still there (with notification sound)!
I figured out one thing; I can change the notification sound of the d*mn white envelope just bij changing the 'General' notification sounds at the settings menu.
So then I thought maybe is the notification from android itself. Does anyone ever had the same problem? suggestions to fix it? thanks
you would drive me crazy!
peace

Every time I get a notification, I click on it in the notification bar and it takes me to the app (messages or Gmail or whatever). I can read the message, delete the email, etc.. but when I drag down notifications the notification is still there... They used to no longer show the notification after interacting.
Why are they not clearing once clicked? Very annoying. I don't think was happening when I first installed Lollipop, but maybe. Anyone else have this or know why it may be doing this? I have to go back and manually clear them after interacting.
There are 2 things bugging me at this point and want to know if i am just overlooking the solution. The first thing is can we remove the auto brightness slider from the Notification Bar? I have looked and searched all over i cant seem to remove it. Second thing is is there any way to stop the screen from turning on when i receive i new text message using the default messages apps? I usually dont use default messaging apps however i want to use the edge lighting and people edge notifications. Anyone figured out how to get rid of these 2 issues?

Unfortunately the brightness slider can not be removed as it's built into the framework, also no way to disable screen wake with stock text messaging app (until we get root if it ever happens)

Text Message screen - Have you tried going into the text message app, swipe left, under Advanced, Settings, uncheck Enable Popup? My screen does not wake when I get a text.

I have to second this - my screen doesn't light up when I get a message ... BUT I also use the Samsung SMS app and not the Verizon one. I don't even care if the VZW one is better, I refuse to use Big-Red branded apps.
As for the brightness slider, it appears this is now baked into the framework without any option of removing. I'm sure it would be an easy fix if we had root, but you'll have to be patient on that front.
My notification dots are frozen, it tells me I have a notification for Facebook, Twitch and when I open the app they don't seem to clear, I shouldn't even be getting notifications because they're dismissed through the drop down when I get them. Happened in the last few hours. Anyone else having the same issue?
I haven't experienced your problem. I'm assuming by notification dots you mean App Badges that show the unread/unresponded to count. These typically go away when you tap the icon in the notification panel to view the event or swipe the notification away in the notification panel. If you're doing one or both of these actions and the count remains try disabling the App Badges for the affected apps and then enabling them again.
Settings>Apps>locate the affected apps>Notifications>App Badges, toggle it off, then back out and then go back in and toggle it on if you still wish to view them.
In another instance where I saw something like this happening the user also tried clearing the cache and app data, but didn't achieve success until they uninstalled the app and installed it again. That wouldn't work for Facebook however because it is a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be uninstalled but it can be disabled. That could be enough if the above method doesn't work for you.
