I've bought this "apparently unlocked" phone from Amazon, for my mom, less than a year ago, not knowing that was a an unlocked At&T. Worked fine with a Vodafone sim until few weeks ago, now "Only emergency". Still under warranty, I took it to a Samsung center ( probably a bad idea ) where they updated it to 7.0 and ask me to contact the carrier for the unlock code ???? Yes, but I don't get any pop up window asking for the 8 digit code when I insert the sim card and restart. So I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Ok this is odd! I received my hd7 yesterday and immediately set about getting it unlocked once i had done the basic set up. Because of what i have read so far on numereous forums i automatically assumed the phone ould be locked and went to one of the two sites suggested here to purchase my code. Within 5 mins i had my unlock code for the sum of £19 something.
So i then read through the email and go to follow the instructions. The first instruction states that i should put in a SIM card from a different network. So i put in the t-mobile SIM i intend to use with the HD7 and would you believe it ITS UNLOCKED?! The phone tile shows T-Mobile as the network and i check and see if i can make and receive calls...all work fine?
Now my question is: was my hd7 unlocked when i purchased it? (bought online from o2 uk payg) or did the guys fromm the unlock site do some sort of jiggery-pokery that unlocked my phone OTA via my IMEI number?
Didnt O2 and Tmobile recent join forces to some extenet. I think they share the same network now so that may be why.
I bought a PAYG one yesterday and my vodafone simcard didnt work so bought the unlock code.

It can't be unlocked OTA, so it must have been shipped unlocked.
That was too good to be true…after appearing to be unlocked my HD7 has
now decided to lock itself. It is giving me this message:
"This sim card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service centre for the unlock code"
I've attempted 3 different PINS (1210, 0000 and 0000 again) with my T-Mobile SIM card in incorrectly so i guess i now need to get a PUK code. The question is who do i go to get this from T-Mobile (my current netwoork) or O2.

That's T-Mobile and Orange.

Errmm, That unlock code it's asking you for is not the SIM PIN, it's the unlock code you paid for from the site, I hope you did not guess it incorrect too many times otherwise you can lockout the phone completely.
OH GOD! you were right...that message was basically asking for the unlock code i paid for. Once i punched the code in it accepted it and i appear to be up and running again.
still find it odd that the phone acted like it was unlocked for a brief period before i had unlocked it!
thank you!
Glad it worked, good job you have not tried to guess the code 10 times otherwise you would never have got it unlocked.
Your right though, seems odd that it let you use it the first time, it's all software based anyway so guess it was a glitch.

Hi I work for o2 UK and it sounds to me like you luckily got a device set up for a contract. O2 only tend to sim lock the payg devices now. The salesman probably picked up the wrong device.
Hi to all
I have a Stock AT&T Note 3 on KitKat, And I bought the unlock code from a website and the Code was working fine
I sent my phone to the Samsung repair center in TX to fix the memory card slot problem.
After a week they sent the phone back to me, and Of course the phone is back to the original settings
When I turned on the phone and inserted my T-mobile Sim card, the phone is asking me for the network
unlock code, so I entered the same code that I used before and it is not working ...
Thanks
You probably didn't get the exact phone you sent them. They probably sent a different one. Check for an old receipt, or the original box for the imei code. See if it's different then the new one. It most likely is. If it is, you will need to obtain a new unlock code.
I checked the IMEI number and they matched
I also thought of that it might have to do with the unlock code
so I ordered another Unlock code from a different site
and it turned out to be the SAME Unlock code from the other site !!
Yes there's only 1 unlock code per imei. It doesn't matter where you obtain the code, it will be the same.
I hate to tell you this, but you'll need to contact the warranty dept and probably send the phone back. Again :'(

Do you think this has anything to do with the Region lock restriction ?
No I don't believe it to be related to region lock.
Check one more thing for me please. Verify that the imei of the phone is what you believe it to be. Open settings and in "about phone" check under status and verify the imei is what you think it is. You can also Press * # 0 6 # on your keypad, Press 'Call' or 'Send' as if making a call. Your IMEI number will be retrieved and displayed on your screen.

do you know anything about this ?
NOTES: If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2, Note 3 or your Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT): All SAMSUNG devices manufactured after the date of JULY 2013 and Samsung devices running on Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT) are subject to REGION LOCKING. If your phone has been used previously with the original carrier, this will not apply to you. However, if your device is BRAND NEW, your must activate it with the original carrier. If your Samsung device becomes Region locked, you will not be able to fully factory Unlock your Samsung devices so it can be used internationally. Even the correct code will not work anymore. In order for your Samsung device NOT to be region locked, you MUST activate (FIRST USE) your S3, S4, NOTE 2, NOTE 3 with your ORIGINAL carrier at least ONCE to take your region lock OFF. After your Region lock is off, you can Sim Unlock your device via Unlock Code. All Canadian Carriers are NOT subject to Region Locking. All USA and European Carriers ARE subject to Region Locking. Region lock is removed automatically after you activate your device with its original carrier. Make some calls before unlocking. (Insert an active original sim card into the device and make a few calls to activate the phone and bypass the region lock. Once you've activated the phone, you can input the unlock code.)
Well after reading that I'm amazed. I believed region lock was based on where you lived and used the phone. Like a person in Europe couldn't use an at&t phone overseas until it was used in the states. I was unaware a person in the U.S. had to do the same if they were using it in the U.S. but with a different carrier. My apologies.
You wouldn't happen to know anyone on at&t would you? Maybe a Samsung rep in bestbuy can help you with borrowing an at&t sim and making a call or 2 on your phone.

I tried to use someone's ATT sim and it doesnt work
Also Samsung is telling me that "as you have unlocked the device from third party site , and this is not considered as official unlock for the device"
I might bring the phone to bestbuy and let them check it out.. since the phone is still under Warranty
There's defiantly something wrong if an at&t sim doesn't work. Are you the original owner? If not do you know the original purchaser? It could have been blacklisted.

The phone is working Fine with an ATT sim card, it has signals
it is just that it is not working after I inserted my tmobile sim card
and entered in the unlock code... So the imei should be fine !
I believe you need approximately 5 to 15 minutes of use on an at&t sim card from my previous readings of other user experiences.

Will try that out.. I am running out of solutions !!
Hey guys,
I really messed up
So I received a Samsung Note 5 SM-N920W8 directly from Samsung. I need to use a Rogers SIM card in it. Not know if the device was locked or not, I thought I would try a non-Rogers SIM in it... I put in a Virgin mobile SIM and it worked. I thought to myself "GREAT, this is factory unlocked, WOO!" Until a few days later when I put in the Rogers SIM that I need to use in the device, and it asked for an unlock code.
Tried buy a code online for both Rogers and Virgin, no luck. Of course not, since the phone never went through carrier fulfilment
For work reasons, I need to use the Rogers SIM in the phone. Both of which are provided by work.
I never realized the phone would lock itself... I thought this was something only Apple did, where they ship the device unlocked, and it locks to the first carrier SIM inserted. I did not know Samsung did the same thing! Was I wrong in thinking this?
How can I get this unlocked? I'm trying to avoid rooting, as it would trip Knox.
There's no such a thing like sim lock option on any Samsung devices
I'm the biggest Samsung fan
Once you buying sim free device from Samsung it's always be sim free
I thinking you must be doing something wrong with settings
Nope, it's asking for SIM unlock code lol
What to do?
How did you receive a phone 'directly from Samsung'? That option doesn't exist in Canada - but in any event, your phone appears to be locked to Bell/Virgin. Phones don't lock themselves based on the SIM you put in. And why don't you ask whoever you acquired the phone from? If you acquired it legally, this shouldn't be an issue; if you didn't, you shouldn't be here asking for help.
So I bought a Sprint Note 8 (SM-N95OU) that was unlocked from eBay over a year ago. We use T-mobile for our service. Everything was going good until the phone would no longer boot up due to draining all the way to 0%. Called Samsung and they did a free replacement outside of warranty.
So now that it's been repaired it is UICC SIM carrier locked.
Under UICC unlock it says "your device is locked to Sprint SIMS only." A message pops up and says to contact sprint. I contact sprint and give the IMEI and they said I have to contact the owner. I assume they never unregistered it from their account.
Is there anyway we can go back to using the phone? I mean we paid for it and feel like we own it but according to the software it does not seem to be the case. Lol.
Will putting a Sprint SIM in unlock It? I notice it doesn't ask for a pin and I think I read they are unlocked via a signal. That signal would have to be resent or would communication on the Sprint network alone unlock it. Not sure If somehow it will know to unlock itself once it connects to sprints network?
Anyway any help or direction is appreciated. Not sure if I need to sell it to a Sprint user and get a different phone now.
Well I just paid somebody on eBay 10$ to unlock it. So far so good.
I had a very similar situation whichresulted in weeks of back-and-forth communication between Samsung and Sprint advanced technical support. Which that department is a joke in and of itself but the actual solution to my problem was just to insert an active Sprint SIM card into the device and then have them unlock it.
Afternoon all. In need of some assistance please.
I have done the IMEI check and it says phone is unlocked.
As soon as I out in another Sim other than EE I get the Sim card isn't supported message please contact EE.
The phone is only 5 months old and has now been purchased outright using anytime upgrade . They say I still have to wait until 6 months and 1 day.
Strange thing is when phone is reset and another Sim instered it starts by showing signal bars and LTE, once activated by WiFi it won't pick up the Sim and comes up with this error.
Phone is running Android 11 beta 3 if that makes a difference.
Reaching out for help please
