Hello @milouk @khusika @oipr @Twisted Prime,
I have an encrypted USB SSD disk with veracrypt, which supports Windows and Linux. Unfortunately, the android does not have this disc without the possibility of decrypting on the cell completely loses meaning. I found a link where it can be implemented but I can not do it. Would you be able to do it?

I have, but the problem is that most of the time I'm out and my computer is stationary. It would be great if there was the possibility of encrypting and decrypting the disk on the cell.

I'm considering getting an N1 and I would like to be able to encrypt files; a blog post titled "Android + encryption on the G1 using cryptsetup and LUKS" (I can't post links) seems to indicate that I could get LUKS encryption to work. Would that cross-compilation procedure result in a working binary for a rooted N1?
Secondly, would it be possible to present the unencrypted block device to a USB host over USB mass storage? I'd like to be able to view the encrypted files on a Windows computer without installing anything extra or typing any passwords into an untrusted computer.
I would like to note that I found this to be possible with my current WM6 Standard smartphone using a recompiled version of FreeOTFE4PDA and WM5torage.

read my sig, flashing from phone... have luck
But I can't get this step:
reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
I have a broken button..
so you have to use mtty, but you need anyway a windows based PC (as I know) to install crude usb drivers...
Ok, Thanks for your help
I use VirtualBox on Arch Linux with Windows XP... I can't flash directly on the cell as ActiveSync doesn't recognize the device, but maybe MTTY, with different drivers, works
I use virtual machine with windows xp,, to use mtty on my windows 7 based pc.
All you need is an virtual machine,,

yep nice trick, anyway I remember that there is a freeware WM5/6 driver working with unix/linux that put the device (also the internal memory) as disk drive, so you can see both memories as "just" plugged usb drives... I rememeber because I used this trick with my old dopod & FreeBSD

Does anyone here know if it's possilbe to do a full clean install of the free Windows XP Mode that you can get with the Windows 7 Virtual machine?
I do know it's possilbe to convert a .vhd into a .iso file which can be burned to disk but i can't find anything on google that would help me with this.
Any help would be appreciated.
If I understand correctly you want to V2P (virtual 2 physical).
I wonder if since Windows 7 bootloader allows you to boot vhd file's if you can boot the Windows xp mode vhd.
Also I think clonezilla will allow you to dd the vhd to a physical disk.

converting a vhd to ISO? that's uh not going to work buddy.
i have no idea hwat you're trying to do, but based on experiance drop xp mode, use vpc2007, virtualbox or vmware. vmware can physically access drives, which is..extremely handy.
Yup, that's exactly what i want to do, is to make the .vhd to physical so i can full install it at boot then dual boot windows 7 and windows XP without the need of useing Virtual PC all the time when i want to use XP.
It should be possible in everyway and i also have a genuine key for Windows XP Mode that come with the download from microsoft.
it isnt going to work. repartition your drive and use a real xp.
xp doesnt like being swapped between hardware configs. specially with whatever insane method win7 uses to boot to vhd files.
so i no its naughty but if you have a legit key then just download xp, with a built in key, then use jellybean to activate your legit key, prob get flamed for that info but fine if u are telling the truth
I am running Pure Nexus now and am rooted (obviously). Before I was previously on a OnePlus running a Stock Cyanogen. I was rooted also on my OPO. on the OPO I was able to browse my file system when plugged into my PC. On the Nexus I can only transfer pic/videos and if I want to push/pull.
Is there something different between the 2 phones/ROM's?
Thanks
EDIT: Update. Turns out the issue is just on my laptop, it works fine on my PC.
So, why would this be?

is there something different between the two phones/roms? well yes, they are two completely different devices, and the two roms are completely different as well. only similarity is that the roms are both versions of android.

Sounds like the captain obvious response I wasn't looking for. Is there something about these 2 phones that makes me not able to browse my root file system or at minimum, my SDcard?
Seems to be a driver issue. Do you have the same drivers installed on both PCs?

Assuming you have laptop and PC with windows.
In the device manager you should see two things
A. an Android device driver
B. a storage device called Nexus 6;
When A. or B. is missing or you see a triangle with '!' , there is an issue with a device driver.
You need to install the missing driver.

I merely plugged the Nexus into the PC (the one that recognizes it) and it worked fine. It is possible there are Google drivers installed from past devices. But the laptop doesn't have any errors in the device manager and sideloads and pushes files fine.

This is my issue. My PC I only see the Nexus storage device (that's the one that I can see my internal storage)
and my laptop I only see Android ADB device.
Edit: I am getting neither on my work laptop. Updated. I will use this same method when i get home. I needed to add the MTP storage device driver.
No triangles on either though.

Is there a possibility that your Laptop does not have permission to install drivers ?
An adb-driver is not enough for accessing internal storage.
If you have permission to install drivers, you could try to change to adb-driver to an 'adb combined' driver.

Yes. The MTP driver is a separate driver. Can usually just search for it in device manager>device>update drivers.
Was wondering if it's easy to root or unlock the bootloader on the new chromecast with google tv
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
We should wait for a custom recovery first. But you might loose all the DRM keys when the recovery partition is flashed. So choose wisely.
The 4gb storage is putting me off from buying it, if it was possible to root it to use apps2sd (or link2sd) to install entire apps on external storage, it would be a good upgrade to my fire tv stick 4k (vulkan support for emulators, slightly more powerful processor and better gpu drivers, as well as gapps installed from the start)

Isn't installing on external media a built in option? And forcing it for all apps in in the developer options.

Yeah you are right! This works without Problems.. you only need an USB C Hub with SD support.. look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-tv/chromecast/chromecast-google-tv-ethernet-usb-hub-t4176725
I use an USB C Hub with Gigabit Ethernet and 128GB SD Card. It works nice!

How did you get the SD card working? I put in a 64GB in mine, but wasn't working until I discovered that the CCwGTV only supports FAT32 which has a max volume size of 32GB. I even tried creating two volumes of 32, but in the end the only thing that worked was just using 32GB of the 64GB as a single FAT32 volume.

I've succeeded to format large USB sticks (64GB) on FAT32 with Rufus portable (free software). SD card is working only in an USB stick adapter on my hub.
Hi,
Did anyone succeed to write files on a second USB stick?
I have the first USB stick formatted to extend the storage, and a second one as an external USB storage.
The second stick can be read or write on a PC, can also be (only) read on Chromecast with Google TV, but cannot write on it on chromecast. It's a write permission restriction there.
There is an ADB solution or similar?
Thanks,
Any sign of being able to root the Chromecast with Google TV yet?
@Twotoneeddy It sounds like we have to wait for TWRP to be ported to support Android11, once that is done then you can have full Recovery functionality and Root (unless someone wants to port fastbootd like what we did in OP8T). Atm A10 just got support recently from the TWRP Team (https://twrp.me/site/update/2020/12/31/twrp-3.5.0-released.html).
**Edit**
Didn't realize device was A10, figured due to release time frame that it would have been released w/A11.
But the basics still stand, there is much more work to be done to get root (we can argue chicken or egg all we want but it doesn't change the end answer just the how you got to the answer).

Dude, you're putting the cart before the horse. If you don't have root or equivalent*, you can't boot a twrp, assuming you even wanted to.
Technically, you need the ability to boot an unsigned boot/recovery image, which includes the ability to feed that unsigned image into the device. If you can do that, then take the original boot image, install magisk on it, feed it in, and tell it to boot it. There's your root, no twrp required.

This isn't a chicken and egg problem AT ALL. twrp is just a custom recovery image. Without already having root or equivalent, there is NO WAY TO RUN IT.
Let me give you a simple example of the process as it works on a pixel phone;
1) Developer options --> OEM unlocking
2) adb reboot-bootloader
3) fastboot flashing unlock
4) fastboot [boot|flash boot] boot-magisk.img
* where boot-magisk.img is the boot.img found in the factory package, after being modified by magisk.
Steps 1-3 are the barrier for this device. twrp won't help you with them because you need to COMPLETE STEP 3 before you can install or boot twrp, and by the time you've completed STEP 3, you've already achieved the goal.
There are 2 ways to get there;
1) figure out how to accomplish steps 1-3.
2) figure out a privilege escalation exploit, either through Android, or through recovery, or whatever else you can come up with.
Here is a very simple question that could help start this process off; IS THERE ANY WAY TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT?

has anyone tried to boot off sd card? possibly running emuelec?
The real reason to root this thing has to be to bring support for HD audio passthrough.
Apparently the Amlogic S905D3G used to have HD audio passthrough on older firmware. If someone could figure out how to reenable it it would be the perfect streamer.
You can find twrp builds for the S905 but they are for older versions of android

Not to necromorph an old thread, but I was curious to know by chance if it would be possible to apply your root method onto a Chromecast with Google TV that has been automatically updated to Android 12 even though it was manufacture 12/2020? After the update, some functionality I was used to that was present before the update occurred has been neutered and the OS sound effects are ruined and there's noticeable crackling/pop. Now I'm actively searching for a way to root my device so I can downgrade to either Android 11 or Android 10.
