I do it the way I've always done it, power + volume down. I'm not sure what you mean by scrolling screenshot.

When you take a screen shot on the S10, an info bar pops up with editing tools for the screen shoot. There is a double arrow just to the right that you can tap to scroll for longer pages.

Oh yea, I forgot. I have smart capture turned off in settings so I don't get the pop-up.

holding bixby button and say screenshot

I use the edge of my hand run across the screen, used this for many years and with smart capture you can save several screens on the same screenshot

Waking to Home Screen

I noticed recently that whenever i swipe to unlock the phone it goes to the last screen i was on rather than always going to the home screen. I'm talking about double tap to wake the screen (or power button), then swipe the lock icon upwards.
I feel like this changed after the recent OTA update. Anyone else notice this?
Kind of annoying to me, because I put my most frequently used apps on the Home Screen for a reason.
Mine goes to the home screen before and after the update. Worked fine on stock rooted and both custom roms I've been running.
EDIT: sorry I misread. You are correct when you lock it on another screen it opens back up to that screen. I guess I'm just used to locking mineon home screen.
Sent from my wicked HTC One M8.
kind of odd, don't you think? I mean, why wouldn't there be a way to always wake to the main home screen page regardless of what was on the screen when the phone went to sleep?
unless i'm totally missing an option setting or something.
Double tap then swipe left opens to home screen. Swipe right opens to blinkfeed. But yes, swipe up opens to last app...I personally like it.

Try swiping from RIGHT TO LEFT lower on the screen. I think if you're halfway up or higher it swipes to the "widgets panel". If you swipe left lower on the screen or using the "lock" icon it will unlock to your homescreen.

That's strange. I just tested it on my phone and I actually had a ton of trouble getting it to show me my lock screen widget page, and NOT go to my homescreen. I purposefully locked my phone on my second screen, then swiped from Right to Left on the lock screen and it unlocks the phone right to my homescreen everytime. If I swipe from Right to Left on the screen when it's off, it unlocks to my homescreen everytime.

I just re-read this and it sounds like we're confused on the gesture direction or you are referring to "Blink Feed" as "widget's panel" when you say it's the left most Home Page Screen. When your phone is unlocked and you swipe to the left most screen, that is Blink Feed, unless you have it disabled.
Are we misunderstanding your issue?

When unlocking the phone and going up through the lockscreen, it will always go to the most recent page. One gesture I didn't see you try was swipe up with the lockscreen off. I'm not guaranteeing it will work, but it's worth a shot. What's weird is swiping from right to left should take you to the homescreen, technically.
Hmm maybe it's some bug caused by disabling Blinkfeed. I have Blinkfeed enabled, so that is my left most screen, where as you do not.
I've tested the same things you did and mine does not act that way.

Swiping up with screen off alway goes to the last screen that was on before going to sleep, which is exactly what it's supposed to do.

Have you tried deleting the page or copied the contents of the original home screen to another page, and then set that one as the home screen? Or maybe clear data on the launcher? Just some ideas. The last possible solution I could think of is factory resetting, which is always annoying.

Settings > Apps > All (swipe right) > HTC Blinkfeed (I think that's what they called the launcher) > Clear Data.
It'll reset your homescreens, but that's not too big of a pain.

Found the Menu Button

Several release ago Samsung did away with a dedicated menu button. Many of the application developers enhanced their apps to have the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner to allow touch access to the menu button.. In the S6 those apps with out a menu button had a floating circle with the 3 dots. Now with the note 5 I could not find a button combination or the floating circle for apps like moon reader. Previously you would press and hold the multitasking button. NOW you need to press and hold the back button. Why do they need to change this so often and not communicate it? Oh well but there is your answer
Thank you so much... I've been searching for the answer to this question since I got mine on the 18th!!!
Sent from my Verizon Note 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks
Oh man ... thank God you found it ... was missing it in my s6 edge ... got my note5 today and its back bcz of you ...
I have held the back button on my note 5 and nothing comes up.
Ya, I suffered with this one for a while, coming from the Note 3. Then I saw someone on a video use the back button hold.
Take this site for example, subscribing used to be a breeze on my other device but long press back, the page will be back instead. Same goes to other app, the back and menu combination really a bad choice by samsung.

Menu button on note 5
I have long pressed the back button on my note 5 but it doesn't come up. I need it for game apps I play. Please help. Thanks.
@Alliswhat44 Its not a big deal with 'All in One Gestures' app in the store. You can combine the features of buttons(Home, Back, Recents, Volume up and down) as you wish. Even the Back button can be Recents..
Hi, I downloaded all in one gestures. I enabled it. Do all boxes have to be checked?

I think your device is not rooted, is it? You can manage Recents button as Menu(If rooted I think) with selecting 'Single Tap or Long press'. The app is perfectly usefull and working.
BTW there is an app name is 'GMD Gesture Control' Thats spectacular as pro.
some apps don't support it...would just quit the app
Correct. If the app uses an on screen menu button anyway (disregarding the android prop setting), then the long key press menu button doesn't work. Is really an app issue at that point.

I thought the long press of the back button brought up the menu?
Has no one made a tweak to change recent back to the menu button like they did with the note 4?

Thread for random stupid questions about Note 8

I'll start: how do you get out of multi-window. I tried the phone at Best Buy and used the dual app launch feature. I couldn't figure out how to shut one off and keep the other open. Or just close both. Any easy tip for that?
Feel free to add your simple, small questions here that probably don't require their own thread!

Ha! I am not the only one then! Pressing, dragging poking anything you think might be the way ... then you either close the wrong one down or both!
But what I learned is this:
Tap the lower or upper part of your screen (in other words bringing the app you want to close down in focus) then tap the blue line in the middle (carefully) and tap the cross.

Its simple, drag the movable middle divider up or down fully to choose which app you want to bring back into full screen, or simply hold the recents button and it will fullscreen the top app.
My question is, is there any way to get rid of that ridiculous blue app indicator glow in multi window? I'm a pretty smart cookie, I can figure out which app im using all on my own.

I sure hope not. So tired of uneven screen lighting and weird tints. My Note 4 has always had half of the screen more yellow and dim. I got used to it, but I always regretted not returning it for a different one.

Oh my bad, I was under the impression that the hold to full screen a split app was a built in Android thing, but it must be my ROM.
Also, is it possible that this annoying blue line can be masked with a theme?

Yeah I kept trying the recents button at the store - that was my default method since I do that on my Pixel on stock Android. It seems Samsung changed the way it behaves.

I think the solution I offered earlier in this thread is now the default way to close one of the split screen apps. Once you get used to it, it works pretty good.
As for theming, I am guessing not. Maybe there is build prop mod but you are probably looking at having to root it. I have to say I forget the line is there, it doesn't bother me so maybe you will get to ignore it eventually : )

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

Glad I found this. I thought I was going mad.
Largely on the same subject, so rather than start a new thread...
Where has the button gone that swaps the top and bottom apps around when running two apps in splitscreen mode?
There used to be a few handy buttons between the two running apps, have they been ditched?
Multi window gone
My phone just updated and now my multi window feature is gone, I've gone thru every setting to find it
When viewing you're recent opened apps, each app has their icon at the top centre of it. Click on the icon. You'll get a small pop-up menu with options. You can choose: App info, open in split screen, pop up mode (where you can resize the app) and lock it.
I don't know yet what the lock functions does.
EDIT:
As mine is in Dutch, could be that the lock function has a different name in English.
The lock function: If you lock an app, and then close all recent apps, the locked app wil stay open. So if you're playing a game, you can lock it, close all recent apps and the game will stay open and running.

Largely on the same subject, so rather than start a new thread...
Where has the button gone that swaps the top and bottom apps around when running two apps in splitscreen mode?
There used to be a few handy buttons between the two running apps, have they been ditched?

Yep, that was also removed. You can't popout the selected app, you can't switch app places. So, if you opened firstly viber (for example) and then youtube at the bottom and then decide to switch the apps place so you can type on viber without covering the youtube video - tough luck, now you have to close both app and open them again vs 2 taps in 1-2 seconds that will not interrupt anything. Also you miss the popout swipe from corner as said from others. You also miss the swipe up + hold for instant split screen (really useful when you play a video @ youtube, will not interrupt the video). You have the swipe up + hold for google assistant... but you don't have the same for the recents - go figure why (never mis-triggered the assistant, so it's not that). So many things are missing, half baked or straight forward broken - really disappointed. I like some aspects of the android 9 one UI, but others are just mind blow not polished at all or missing. I guess to have a "new" things for one UI 2.0 or note 10. After all, why you need a good multiwindow functionality on a phone marketed for multitasking and multiwindow? The note 9 really is more than ever an s9+ with a head scratcher.

It is not missed but working differently.
You need to long press the open program button at the bottom of the screen and then choose the second window program you want.
Hope this helps

Just to add to this, you can switch between multi view and currently open apps by holding down on the previous apps button for 2 secs then you can choose by 2 second press if you want multi window or just currently open apps.
I don't like that if you want to choose an app not in the recent window, you have to close all to be able to choose an app. Their multi-window has taken huge steps backwards. Kinda disappointing since that has always been a defining feature.

Well, I will correct myself, you can swipe to the home screen while choosing and select a different app that is not already in the recent window.
When you open Samsung members app the first thing that appears is something called advices... if you tap you will see some changes on the pie update ...
Other pie screwups
That's not all you've lost, my friend. The multi window setting is gone, as you know. The ability to swipe from the corner to resize and go multi window is gone, as you know. However, additionally, i noticed the following:
- The ability to enter your fingerprints to access Samsung browser secrecy mode is gone/disabled. You can only enter using iris scan or password.
- The phone optimisation edge panel is gone and nowhere to be seen.
- when you deactivate the nav bar in favour of swipe gestures, you cannot long press on the recent apps swipe area to enable split screen multitasking, as you would have with the recent apps button on the nav bar.
I hope there's a bug fix coming and soon

You can also use the search bar for the app you want when in the app switcher multi window selecter.

You can also swipe the multi screen spliter inbetween each app to fully open the bottom app and then select a different app for the bottom... it's still hokey but quicker than exiting out of both apps
