Android Auto Screen-mirror is it worth it? - Android Auto General

I just bought a new 2019 Ram with the 12" Uconnect screen and wanted to mirror my phone.
I see all these videos about mirroring my Galaxy S8 via android auto, aa_mirror.apk and aa-unlock.apk but that it requires me to root my phone.
I am totally unfamiliar with rooting a phone.
1. Is it worth rooting my phone just to mirror to my new truck toy?
2. If so what is the best, idiot-proof way to root my phone.
BTW - Samsung S8, SM-G950U running Andriod 9

Depends on how important for you is to have mirror of your S8 in car system screen.
If it is important so no other choice: you have to root your S8.
There are many ways you can do it. Choose the best one. I mean rooting with unlocking bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery and flash Magisk zip. Detail information you can find on the dedicated threads on XDA.
Remember that instead of using AA Unlocker you should use AA Phenotype Patcher, because AA Unlocker is temporary solution. AA Phenotype Patcher is a permanent solution for enabling AA Mirror for Android Auto. Detail you can find via Google

iPhone user who wants to use gear 1, gear 2, or other smart watch with iphone

Hi all,
I'm new here, and wanted to get some feedback from you experts. I own both a note 4 (for work) and iPhone 6 plus (personal) and am wanting to dabble in smart watches. More specifically, I am looking to get a smart watch for my iPhone 6 plus.
Although, I have searched the forums, YouTube, some blogs, and Google, I am still not sure what will be my best bet for a smart watch for my iPhone, and with the threads I have found, a lot seem to be half done, and a lot of comments, tests, etc, so instead of searching all over and getting to the end of a thread that asks me to check out this thread, then jump to this thread, etc, I was hoping a few of you experts could give me some advice on what will work best for my needs.
So I understand that the gear 1 or gear 2 can work with my iPhone 6, with limited capabilities, which is okay, but the info I've been reading is confusing and again was hoping some of you experts could point me in the right direction..
-so what I'm looking for is a couple things:
(A) first, find out which smart watch, gear 1 or gear 2 will work best for my needs.
(B) second, be able to add apps from outside sources such as Google play or vshare, or something other than what is in the watches stock stores. And have Internet access on these watches, which I'm assuming I could do by adding a browser via one of these stores on the smart watch.
(C) third, which ever smart watch I chose, I would like it to do as much as it is intended to, however, I understand that the gears only do limited functions. With that said, I'm hoping you guys can enlighten me which Samsung gear will work best with my iPhone 6? Should i be getting gear 1 or gear 2?
(D) and forth, definite directions, or links, on what I need to do to make either the gear 1 or gear 2 work with my iPhone 6. (I have seen several threads and will use those once I can get definite info on what I need to do to the gear 1 or gear 2, or my iPhone, etc to use them with each other)
-please correct me, but what I understand so far is:
(A)for gear 1 and using with iPhone 6:
-I've read that the gear 1 will work with iPhone 6, if I root the Samsung gear 1 using null rom or other?, jb iPhone 6, install cloud notifier from big boss repo, use mi wifi or Bluetooth teathering, on the iPhone, and need to activate the watch using an android phone first. And get an account for pushing notifications, but not sure which are myoptins for that..
(A2) side loading apps or using vshare store for additional apps?
-I also saw a YouTube video that shows I can side load apks on gear 1, easier than on the gear 2 because gear 1 uses android and gear 2 uses tizen. If that's the case, then I'm thinking the gear 1 would satisfy my desire to side load apps. I also didn't see anyone mention if they have tried to install vshare and install apps from that store? (Either by side loading vshare and or from a browser?)
(B) for gear 2 and using iPhone 6:
-I've only see a few definite threads, and videos, where they use the gear 2 wight their iPhone. So I'm confused if the gear 2 will work or not? And also, I thought I read or saw someone say for gear 2, you root the phone and don't need to jb the iPhone, to use with iPhone or any other android phone? And also read that some say they were able to get them connected simply by using BT, make visible, etc. but again, the threads seem to go on with issues and nothing ever definite on what works..
-so basically not sure if the gear 2 will work with I phone 6??
(B2) side loading apps on gear 2?
-I've read the side loading only works with gear 1 because it's android. So is there a way to sideload apps on gear 2/tizen? Would you be able to use a browser on the watch and install vshare store from their website, like you would on any android device? Or what's the verdict on side loading apps on the gear 2? Less flexible because it's not android OS? Or??
Misc: (I'm not too excited about getting a pebble steel watch as it just doesn't do it for me).
And finally, Based on the info you guys provide, I'm looking at either Galaxy gear 1 or gear 2 to use with my iPhone. And if all else fails may just go with a cheap Chinese smart watch that would work with my iPhone. But that wouldn't satisfy me unless I could side load apps and/or root those either and have found limited info on rooting some of the China smart watches like zgpax, or u watches.
I know I might not get all that I'm looking for, and even if so, may have limited things working, but with that said, what's your guys advice? Gear 1, gear 2, or some other China smart watch that should work with iPhones? (Don't know if I'll ever go Apple watch, but if I do, it won't be first gen and/or until the price drops 6 months after release, so yeah, looking for something good to hold me over until then, that will require some tech work on my end...)
Sorry if this has already been asked, but I'm still confused after all the threads I've read as mentioned and still lost lol. If this thread needs to go to another part of the forums, please move. Cmon experts please chime in! Thanks in advance and sorry I'm not a developer, just a curious geek that likes the info on this site!!!
Did u ever get a resolution? I have all the same questions.
I have an iPhone 6 and gear 2. Did u ever get it to work? If so how?

Any word on this one?? I too would REALLY appreciate the update to this so I can continue to use my watch.
Anyone willing to make a rom with andriod wear 2 ?
Had my neo working great on my nexus6P until the nexus crashed with the boot loop.
Was able to restore phone after a factory reset, but since then lost all watch faces I had. They used to be there under the new Wear OS (used to be andriod wear)
but all gone. The Rom i have is using andriod wear 1.4
It seems that 1.5 wear, and older, are not supported by wear OS app anymore. As Tizen does not work with non Samsung, my gear 2 neo have no connection to my mobile (Zuk Z2 Pro).
Does anyone know any turn around to make it connect to non samsung mobile?
@CaioCaFe to get your watch working with Android wear 1.5+, you just need to install an older version of the app on your phone, get set it up, then update the app on your phone. It will maintain the connection with your watch. As for going back to Tizen, the Samsung apps do work on some non Samsung phones, but it's relatively limited. There are some modded versions, but I couldn't get any of them to work on my old phone. My current phone (LG Stylo 3) is actually legit compatible, not that I would go back to Tizen if you paid me...unless it was enough to get a Ticwatch, lol.
That being said, I would also like to see Wear 2 for this watch.
Where can I find a android wear apk that works?

Hey, I just got an LG Stylo 3 and cant get my gear 2 neo to connect. I can connect via phone bluetooth, but wear cant find phone and the when I try to connect from the watch the watch wont find the phone. I can answer calls through the watch only. If your watch has Tizen on it, you can't use Android Wear. You have to use the Samsung apps. If your watch has Wear, you have to go on apkmirror and get an old version of the app. I don't recall exactly how far back you need to go. Also, let the app find the phone. Don't connect it to Bluetooth first.
Any pointers on where to find an older gear apk?
Hi, everyone it work for gear 2 (ir and camera)

Android Auto/CarHome Ultra

I like Android Auto on my 2018 Hyudnai SFSAWD. However, I have another app on my Note 8 (not Rooted) that is called CarHome Ultra and have used it for years. It is much cleaner and has many more options that just Android Auto.
My question is there anyone who is familiar with CarHome Ultra and knows of a way to display/use that when in Android Auto?
My Note 8 is big, but the Display on the car is much bigger and better for driving.
CarHome is on Google Play and has so many options.
Here is a video on the apk and what it does. Much cleaner and more capability than just Android Auto.
Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

I guess it is Mirror Link application. It's different (than AA) standard that need to be supported by your car audio and your smartphone.
The apps have to use valid certificates and then Mirror Link can be used with CarHome app.

Thanks for your info. I guess there is no way for this to happen. I would really like to see something like this incorporated into AA. So much functionality.
In case it is a standalone car dashboard application, you can use AA Mirror to mirror it to your Android Auto head unit.
Download will try later and let everyone know.
Tried this apk today in the WiFi and USB modes to no success. See Attch. The apk works on my phone but only has options for:
1. Mirror to PC
2. Mirror to Phone
I do require some clarification. What do you mean by:
1. Standalone car dashboard app? (I assume that CarHome Ultra is that since I can use that in my car(s) and get all functionality on the Note 8 screen.)
2. Android Auto head unit? ( I assume that is my Hyundai AV Display on my dash.)
Thanks for your time and info. I do appreciate it greatly.
Please check this link to get an idea of mirroring your screen to your AndroidAuto head unit:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...irror-screen-android-auto-disucssion-t3734180
Please check this thread for a simplified guide to set it up:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/9f07de/howto_mirror_your_phone_screen_with_android_auto/
It is fairly simple to get it running and you should be able to view(mirror) and control the CarHome Ultra app from your phone to your car display (provided it supports Android Auto).

Thank you very much for the help and info you have provided. I'm sure others will also find this very valuable.
I do have a Note 8, not rooted. My 2018 Hyundai SF Sports AWD does have Android Auto and it is really great.
The only thing that I don't like about the Hyundai AA is that it does not indicate Speed, Compass, and is somewhat limited on the apps that you can use in AA.
I would have assumed that if AA was running Android it would have allowed all Android APKs to be run just like a phone. JMHO!
However, I do understand that their are limitations on all software. If only CarHome Ultra was certified to run on AA, that would really solve the problem. I did write CarHome Ultra Support and asked if they could do something to make this app compatible with AA. Still have not heard back from them.
Again, Thank you for all the help and info. People like you make this forum a valuable asset to all who visit this site.
You're welcome, my friend.
Sadly, Android Auto has very limited capabilities and many, many restrictions with regard to its usage and modifications at this point. Please note that Android Auto is not the same as Android. If your car unit supports only AA, your experience will be very limited. However, there are many members who are trying to make the best of it and developing new ways of tweaking it (AA Mirror mentioned above is an example).
IMHO, you're better off with a head unit that has its own processor and runs complete Android by itself. The possibilities with these head units are endless as they feature a complete Android environment unlike Android Auto.
Hope you have a great weekend.

There are many available online. You can also ask your local car accessories shop. Its better to invest in something with good specs though it might be a little pricey.
Let me know if you need any further help.

If you want to run APKs or mirror your screen to your head unit, you will have to root your phone, I guess.

Question Will we see windows 11 running in tab s8 ultra when it updated to android 13?

I think it would be fantastic to run AND windows 11. It's been done to pixel android 13, due to better virtualization android 13 is having.
Looking forward to that.
It is definitely a game changer.
I really hope the developers get involved in this and make it work with the keyboard and USB port and camera as well.

It is completely doable.. But I'm not sure how many people bought the s8 ultra as it is very expensive. When only few bought it, less chances one do it..
If it would work well, it would probably be the best windows tablet as there isn't one with that big screen and small bezels.
You can already run Linux through Termux with smooth desktop experience using Xwayland.
However, Termux is a bit broken since Android 12.

oh not really y have termux running in andrid 13 on samsung s22 ultra you need to perform a comand before you upgrade to android 13 and the the settings become permanent y have kali netunter running in android for a month without any disconnects including graphical acceleration having even kde up running (no wayland compositor since the device has exynos and the graphic card is 2x Radeon r650 mobile raytracing works

shore is doable the soc is among supported devices and is you download the enterprise version the hardware support is huge but the thing is you have to mod the firmware to enable installing other than android and that is the tricky part

ah no no root required but for enabling hardware passthrough you need to connect to pc and perform adb shell commands in order to raise oom server app limit at least y manage to merge kali netunter within termux actually y got termux installed before android 13 update so after a 13 update the system optimized termux to run Wery well

who says about virtualization is as slow regardless of what os you try to virtualize, modern phones can even boot windows natively sa long as you have the necessary hard drive space, but there is a cheaper way and most powerful too azure vm and through rdp just remote in to the cloud
linux yes with ease can run within android but windows is another thingy dual boot yes can be done by modifying your bootloader to allow usb boot and dual boot
Well, android 13 can now use KVM to run Linux through virtualization. However, Samsung have to allow it on his firmware...
Google Pixel phones already can virtualize any OSes with a new app called NestBox.

Kdragon said to use qemu to see if you can access KVM. I've used limbo previously and it's super slow without KVM. There are tutorials on running windows through limbo but be careful with the windows image you use because they can be infected. There is an XDA post somewhere with windows images that have been optimized
Limbo was extremely slow when i tried (in other tablet). The best way right now, running some windows apps in tab s8 ultra, is with exagear. I have posted here:

In this small video I'm showing 3 things: 1. Exagear gold windows emulator version 3.0.1 Google it for more. It's a windows emulator for Android. I run it in tab S8 ultra 16 giga. It has a list of windows supported apps. One of them is office...

I'm actually using remote desktop with curtain mode, but using the Adobe softwares directly on the tablet would be amazing
And Android 13 is out now

Curently, the best you can do is using Termux with proot distro.
Unfortunately, Android 13 doesn't change anything since Samsung's kernels doesn't have KVM (and will probably never have).
We need to wait for custom kernel with KVM enabled.

Question Is there a way to make my Xiaomi run the Galaxy Store app?

I am trying to use the Galaxy Store app on my Redmi Note 10S but it won't let me open it because it is not made for other devices.
Is there a module, ROM or other way to emulate a Samsung device in order to use this app?
My Redmi Note 10S has MIUI 13.0.6 and Android 12. I also have root access and TWRP installed.
Some Samsung users who want to use Galaxy Store apps not available in their region have found ways to circumvent it.
Maybe start there.
Try side loading the apk and firewall blocking before it connects to Samsung's server. I use older versions of Wearables and Good lock apps like this on my Samsung. It's all good as long as firewall blocked. The supporting services may need to be installed (and firewall blocked) as well like the Galaxy Store app for the apps to function. It will likely be a pain and take a few tries... it did on a Samsung
Scan all side loaded apps first with online Virustotal, do not use if there's ANY doubts. Better safe than hacked.
Here's an older copy of Galaxy Store, may not install on Android 11 or higher...

you need samsung services
Do some searches... you're not the first. Unlike many of Samsung's newer flagship phones some of their apps are still highly desirable.

This is what's needed for some. These apps can raise hell on a stock Samsung so don't expect a hack(s) to go smoothly...
Used N10+'s can be had for $350 in good condition. Probably the best Note Samsung ever made and still a very capable workhorse.
Snapdragon variants hardware is more desirable but next to impossible to root.
