Hi
I am skeptical on Pie but really wanna try it becaues of the dark theme. However I'd like to be able to roll back to Oreo if Pie annoys me. Anyone know how I can install Pie but keep my Oreo bootloader so I can downgrade if I want to?
Also how would you prevent your bootloader from changing from future updates on Pie?
download a pie firmware with same bootloader version of oreo, flash it and try, if you do not like it, then you can roll back

You mean like this: N950U1UEU5DSC1
Would it work for T Mobile Note 8?
I have a 950F, so I dont know , What I know is, search for the model/carrier you alreay have, look for the 5th number from right to left, that is the bootloader version, the thing is, you can always roll back IF the bootloader version is the same, in this case 5
You can perfect roll back to oreo, just have to flash the same bit number of firmware
Ejem: if you are in bit 5 pie, just flash a bit 5 oreo rom

I think, a lot of people look at this the wrong way.
Samsung usually prepares the bootloader a few months back before pushing a major OS upgrade. In this case, XXS5/XXU5 has been here before Pie.
The way i understand it, it's the same bootloader with minor provisions. As soon as XXS6/XXU6 comes out, you can completely forget about Oreo.

So is it as simple as going back down to Oreo through ODIN? As long as I keep the version 5. And block future updates to Pie?

Exactly. We have seen 5 revisions of bootloader updates during Nougat/Oreo, you cant even downgrade from 4 to 3, all while on Oreo.
You could say it's independent of the OS Version. You are free to upgrade and downgrade until the 6th one comes in.
That said, Pie is much better mate.

Yea, i do miss a feature, white-listing apps on the battery management. That said, ironically, battery is around 20% better. Oreo (although rooted and with loads of Xposed and Greenify tricks) gave me 24h with 4h screen time, but i use battery hungry apps that many people brag about. On Pie, i have 24h with 5 screen time, again rooted, but with no tricks in sleeve, and no xposed and greenify, in fact, i even added a Smart Watch to it, so that's Bluetooth constantly on.
Pie does not lack anything that Oreo had, on top of that, OneUI is a lot better then TouchWiz.
At the end of the day, im not here to change your mind, if Oreo is better for you, stick to it.

youre right, we need to wait, ach, those huawei updates, never ending story... , its android 7 already and we still dont have final fully function marshmallow, unbelievable, and the best of all, we wont even get Nougat
What isn't fully functioning then?
And I'm starting to think that you are very hard to please
I've had Samsung, HTC and Sony phones, but never in 1year I've had so many updates as with this Huawei.

B380 is pretty good actually, i was talking more about overall update experience, many people still dont have marshmallow and are stuck on HORRIBLE lolipop even if they dont have this phone from mobile operator like orange, telekom for example, where its a much longer period of time to get update. Me and you are lucky that we are able to flash every new rom, wether its OTA from someone or leaked beta, but most people are still stuck at B317 or older where are not only bugs, but some functions are missing from B380 (for example more user profiles) this update shoud have been there for about half year and not now, its a bit late i thing considering that it was last year flagship, but thats only my opinion, not to mention that there was not 5.1 android (dont count beta that was never officialy released) so it was bassicaly only launch 5.0 android and update to many unfinished marshmallow updates, pretty bad support i think
PS dont forget we wont get Nougat update
That is your opinion indeed, personally I'm not missing anything. I use it for whatsapp, email, Facebook and Camera and some other apps of course. Only thing is find a bit irritating is battery life. On lollipop I easily got 2 days with 4,5 hours of screen time with Bluetooth and WiFi on all the time. Now I have to charge every night.
Sent from my HUAWEI GRA-L09 using XDA Labs
Yeah, unfortunately looks like this is only available as an OTA from B370 & not B380, which was an incomplete, leaked version.
So, anyone who downgrades from B380 to B370 should be able to get it (in theory anyway).

In my opinion Lollipop was better - more functional and with much better battery life. I was easily getting abour 3,5-4 hours of screen-on time over even 3 days of use, now I'm getting about 2,5h (up to 3 hours) in one or two days. Marshmallow is rubbish.

Guessing you are on B370:
Extract recovery.img from B370 full UPDATE.APP
Flash recovery.img
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Do OTA update
Enjoy.
Once everything is good flash TWRP
If you flashed a different kernel you have to extract and flash boot.img too before OTA update

Have you tried the "getprop ro.treble.enabled" command in the terminal ? If no, could you please confirm whether the value was "true" or "false".
I used treble check app & it says there is support for treble but no A/B partition so no seamless updates.

I'm a little confused. How come it supports Treble if it doesn't have a separate 'vendor partition' which is supposed to bring seamless updates?
I don't think the app you're using is reliable.
Well, either that or I'm missing something BIG about Project Treble!
He didn't say that! The phone does indeed have a vendor partition, it just doesn't have the A/B scheme (that's what he said at least).

Okay, got my device today, did a factory reset before starting. All worked fine. Yes, for sure Project Treble support, but only A-Partition. But after the reset and setup all that Bloatware was there again. Well, not to nice, but you can uninstall some of them. The device is really nice and you really get a lot of SP for the money. So, now wait for the first updates to come

The reason i haven't done that, as i explained in the other thread, is because i need android pay, or Google pay as it's called now. I know i can pass Safetynet with some fiddling with magdisk, but as you know magdisk vs Google is a cat and mouse story, Google closes one hole resulting with magdisk failing safetynet, then magdisk updates and safetynet passes again, then Google closes that hole and so on and on. Android pay is too important for me to have to keep doing that. Without magdisk as soon as BL is unlocked, which is required for LOS, safetynet fails. If GPay wasn't so important to me i would have loaded LOS , or phh AOSP, some time ago as EMUI is just bloatware in my opinion. Why OEMs, and it's not just Honor, think their skins are better than stock is strange. If they truly believe their skin is that great then make it an apk and let users decide, don't force it down people's throat and then not even give them the option to disable it...rant over..

Looks like we have Pie now, no one talking about that it seems. But latest beta came with Android 9.0, I believe. With Dark Mode in Display settings, pretty good.
Also noticed the update. However, I'm quite hesitant at first due to earlier info's that states recruitment is suspended for pie update. How's the update btw? Is there any bugs that might affect a normal day to day usage? Planning to install this rom. Tnx in advance!

i wanted to try it and eventually rollback to Oreo : but i can't !
So be careful, cause there are some bugs that make it difficult to use as a daily driver.
For example, brightness is very very low and it's hard to see anything under the sun, hotspot security is useless (makes you hotspot opened)...
I try to flash many other Oreo global official roms without success using mi flash tool. Though it says ok, it's always the same rom that boot (android 9).
Tried to flash twrp , but every version i installed boots on an snowy strange screen (like old tv without canal).
So be careful if it's the only phone you have.

Actually I just read somewhere that currently, only Germany has the update. I'm going to guess this may change soon.
Also, I read that Samsung is working on a v. 2.5, be released later this year. For which units, though, remains a mystery.

To downgrade what firmware should I download...I m a bit confused. I m in Usa and have an unlocked version. From sammobile website it has att, tmo, verizon etc but i dont see the unlocked? Couple other options say TMK and USC...no idea what those mean. Any Ideas?
EDIT: NVM figured it out. There is a thread on here with U1 firmware which is for unlocked variant. However Home CSC gave me an error and phone wouldnt boot. But there was an option for factory reset, did that and booted fine.
Quick question, updated to 12. Not happy with the lag and other aspects. If I backup my phone with smart switch and then try to revert to 11, can I restore my data?

Could you get me a link to that? I have the US unlocked variant as well. Could really use the help.
Great news, also just as important I changed my phone wallpaper and may consider using Google Messages for a bit.
You guys tried the BUKG? it's working flawlessly for me. No stuttering animations, lovely colors customization, frame drop has been fixed, no battery drain

Still buggy as hell. Downgraded again.
I am considering to Downgrade also,
just can't stand the fact that a basic functionality like Google Play Store is not working correctly,
I've applied the December Patch pushed by Samsung, would i be able to downgrade (Clean) to Android 11 with the ODIN method? it is mentioned that uses who applied the latest security Patch may fail to downgrade.
I have the latest BUL1 Release, and Model SM-G998B
