Have you tried alternatives?

Yes, I've tried them, but it'd be nice if we could have the apps and functionalities we're supposed to receive with our VERY expensives phones. We don't have many things we saw while Huawei was announcing this phone. Those features (like the double video recording) were pretty desirable while making the decision between buying the P30Pro or the S10+, and then we don't receive some of them.

You have said that you watched the video, yet you do the same thing that so many people do and ignore the bits you don't want to read.
The presentation clearly said "functionality added via HOTA (Huawei Over The Air) update", but you didn't want to read that and now you're here moaning.
It's a great phone without these features, and rest assured the features will be added in the future.

[Q] Any issues with Chinese version?

I am thinking of ordering the enhanced 64GB model from a Chinese seller (ebay or aliexpress). This would be the Chinese model. The sellers state that before shipping they install a multi-language ROM and Google Play, and that it will work no problem on my network (Canada).
Does anyone have experience with ordering such a phone? I have looked at the relevant threads on the forums of other Huawei phones and there seems to sometimes be problems with notifications and Chinese bloatware. I am also unclear whether I can expect to receive future OTA updates?
AFAIK at the moment a P9 Chinese version distribution has not yet been announced... and for the P9 the official availability is tomorrow 16th April.
The P9/P9 Plus presentation has been initially dedicated only to the European market, also prices where indicated in Euro, even if that event was held in London...

all I can say is, even with the Chinese ROM, you can get all the google stuff without issues, with the exception being Now on Tap because the Home button is mapped to Huawei's own voice assistant.
i did have some issues with notifs on the Mate 8 but its since received at least 3 updates. My P9 is too new for me to notice any issues

re: bloatware, it's possible to remove up to 90% of that stuff through "HiApp" - huawei's replacement for google playstore ( which is also where you download all the google stuff)

That's great - thanks. My P9 is currently on its way so that's reassuring. I am not bothered about Now on Tap.
Presumably HiApp is in Chinese itself? Is it challenging to navigate around it?

it isn't in Chinese.. Once you've chosen English in your first setup step, all system apps show up in English. with the exception of bloatware. I believe there's a guide here on xda some place teaching folks how to download all the google stuff too. basically you'll need google play obviously, google contacts sync and google calendar sync. these are the basics you need to grab off HiApp. Then you can start using Google Playstore as normal to setup account etc
permissions are important as they are very strict and sometimes restrict first, and never ask later. be sure to check there often. Enjoy!
Just Got Mine Yesterday!
My P9 from a shop on aliexpress just came yesterday... and oh yes, it is pretty awesome! Going to use it a couple days and plan on doing a extensive comparison review to my LG G5 in my series of review called "Some Guy's Review..." I did one comparing LG G5 to the S7 Edge and people seemed to appreciate it... I have no brand loyalty so it a pretty honest review IMO
I try to sum up the general user / pro-user experience... what most people run into and care about.... plus stuff I always look for that are my "musts" for things I do in my daily life...
Not getting deeply into it, here's a quick 12-hour impression:
1. Design - It's a pretty phone, I got mine in Gold because the 64GB / 4GB only comes in Gold in China (EVA-AL10 Version is Chinese Version of EVA-L29 International Dual SIM). Let's say a Sony Xperia Z5 and an Iphone had a wild sexual encounter.... the result is a Huawei P9 (Basically an all metal Z5)
2. Snappiness - This phone rocks... didn't slow down even during setup... have yet to notice it heat up either! Have to put it through my grueling non-scientific testing of playing Clash Royale... hahaha. Really though, I won't do a AnTuTu or anything like that because those tests are pretty much meaningless to real world experience usage. Hope to have more later
3. Camera - have yet to take a "real" picture with it... tried it out, seems to have a lot of custom settings and a really good "pro" mode. more to come
4. Battery - seems spot on to all recent Huawei Phones, big, long lasting (that's what she said.... :silly: :good
5. EMUI - I am actually a fan of EMUI... especially with another launcher laid over (I use a HTC Sense Launcher Port). The amount of customization may annoy the regular user... but coming from having a Huawei Mate 8, I understand what you need to do to get everything working like you like. I will give more details later if it suffers from the "sleeping sickness" as I call it... this is where due to all the great battery customizations Huawei throws in, certain app notifications stop working after awhile because the app goes into hibernation and never comes out... time will only tell.
Look for a review probably Monday or Tuesday! I may even do a 3-way just for fun....!!! :good: :highfive: (3-way review... get your mind out of the gutter... hahaha)
I received my eva-dl00 yesterday. (Chinese Dual-Sim 32GB) from Ibuygou.com
Everythings seems to be ok, but Contact Syncing is not working. Any hint?
First impression: Nice phone, very solid quality! But coming from Vanilla....i don´t like EMUI.
Maybe i have to get used to it.
But the P9 with Stock Android would be awesome!
How are u finding notifications inflow? They come on time or with delays?? IMs like Whatsapp Telegram etc giving instant notification even when phone sleeps for 30 plus mins?
Seems to be ok. But it is only a first impression. Could be wrong.
Has anyone from Europe tried if the dual sim works for Chinese version ?

I just got mine today. EVA-AL10. Beautiful phone. Works with cricket no problem... i was trying it out with my verizon sim didnt work. Seems to work well, but some of the stuff are in chinese like browser. Slowly removing the bloat and adding other software to it.
what did everyone end up doing when they first receive the phone? I factory reset it and downloaded google play store from hi app. I needed contacts sync and calendar sync so i downloaded from apk mirror. I downloaded gmail and everything. Its been a while since i came back from droid. I was with apple for a while. Last droid I had was a htc evo. Can't seem to get my contacts on this phone.

How much time to get custom recovery and magisk

So, mine is only a question
I'm coming from oneplus 5t and I got TWRP and magisk like 5 days after it's release.
Now with galaxy s10/s10+ European version how much time I need to wait before I can root it?
Also I'd like to hear suggestions about some root friendly phones with headphone jack and small noch (teardrop).
Coming from a 2017 phone I expect my new phone to have more features than my old one, and not the opposite
coming soon
They are working on it
Patience
Will possibly pick up the S10e as my next phone, and curious what do users actually loss when KNOX is tripped? All available data seems to come from years ago (from S7 days)

At a minimum, you lose:

* Samsung Pass

* OTA updates
There might be more features lost in addition to this. Whoever knows them feel free to append them to the list.

Yeah the wait sucks, bought the S10 Plus today and already can't wait to root it. Have tons of apps to reinstall with Titanium so until I get root I can't use the phone at it's best. But the good news is that they're working on it and it seems they're at a good point too, so let's hope to have it soon.

Call Recording

Google acting like A-holes about call recording. If anyone finds anything that can give us this again in at least the same way the ACR did, please share here. I would like to use this thread to help us gather updates and any info regarding bringing call recording to our S10 devices. If you are like me, you understand what an important and useful tool call recording can be. It's protected me from fraud and abuse over the years and I hate to see it go.
I still have my un-rooted One Plus 6T that has call recording baked in but to swap SIM anytime I need to make important phone calls will be a real annoyance. If anyone here can help with any info or updates or methods please share. I appreciate the help! Thank you!
Interested by that too, call recording might be illegal in some country it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't be able to use it.
I'm interested too, after some research in my opinion best solution is change csc country to have native call recording enabled by default on original dialer.
Change csc isn't possible by software yet but booting after reset with a sim card from country where native call recorder is enable does the trick.

Can someone try this and let others know. Someone people have done this with Galaxy Note 9 which was upgraded to Android Pie and then could not use call recorder. They inserted Thai SIM as the only sim and then it prompted them to reset and reboot few times and it worked for them. I want to know if it works before I buy S10.

Missing camera features?

Hi Guys,
I bought the unlocked S10 Plus from Samsung US and use it on Verizon. I don't seem to have an option of Night Mode or anything like that camera app. Am I missing something?
Also, does anyone know the trick to consistently prompt for the "Scan" feature when taking pictures of documents? It's so flaky that it probably works like 5 to 10% of the times...
Thanks!

Night Mode is meant to arrive to North American phones in a future update. Samsung is not telling us when, no estimated time frame. But it's meant to arrive for us eventually.
For scanning documents, I highly recommend this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intsig.camscanner&hl=en_US
It's served me very well.

Samsung probably used EU for testing purposes, so US customers will have a bug free experience
I use the scan feature all the time, in my experience the scan feature wools 95% of the time, sometimes I have to try a second time to get the whole document in as it only scans most of it. As long as you scene optimiser is set it should work. I am in the UK with an unlocked S10 and although I have the new night mode I still don't have May security patch. It appears Samsung are updating all phones with May update before the S10's which is their flagships.

Warning/Info: that LGCamera.apk does not work for our V30 yet. It says "camera not found" and quits.
So don't install over your current LG Camera App as an update unless you want to break your stock app.
Is there no forum dedicated to the V50? If not, petition XDA to start one rather than confusing everyone here.

There is a V50 forum, but it's lonely there.
Most apps from later LG models can't just be installed on previous phones, as is. Yes, there are a few exceptions, but usually a dev has to get involved to remove restrictions. Was that way on the later Motorola cameras which Moto no longer gave updates to the Moto Quark (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo phones). We got the updated cameras thanks to "porting" them, until things changed TOO much and it was no longer possible.
Anxious V30 Magisk module has cameras from LG G6/V40.

So all V50 discussion should be there, no? I understand it's new, no devs yet, etc but it seems like this thread is just to poach devs over to that phone. I mean, that's the reason I don't early adopt anymore, nobody willing to switch devices.

I'm interpreting he meant to help V30 by providing apks for V50 features. A lot of people request stuff like that, and a dev could possibly "port" some of this but needs access to the original files. So, these are the original files and something possibly can be done with them in the future.
And yes, people who request it expect it to be delivered on a silver tray ready to install -- but that's not how it works.
Yes and also I get bored, it's like we are 3 who owns it, but I'm the only one active on the forum. But the v30 has pretty solid forum. Also I find you as a true community with verry little trolling, arguing, and also I find you guys mature and with PERSONALITY. A key factor in these days where are so many many ROBOTS/SHEEPS.
I just want someone to port lg g8/v50'ui for v30. And the camera app. I don't get it why they didn't update the camera app like g8? Our camera app is also behind the v35 and g7
