SIM Card Not Detected - Sony Xperia XZ3 Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I have had my unlocked H9493 Bordeaux Red XZ3 for about 6 months and it has worked fine on T-Mobile (Android 9, 52.0.A.3.202). Unfortunately, yesterday it randomly rebooted and after that it would no longer detect the SIM card and there is no wifi signal either; everything else on the phone works just fine. I keep getting the message "No SIM Card - No Service". I have rebooted several times with no luck. If I do leave it off for a while and turn it back on, sometimes I will get service & wifi for a little bit before the error starts all over again. If I leave the phone on with the error, it will reboot itself every few minutes.
I tried a different SIM card in the phone but still got the same issue. I put the original SIM card in another phone & it worked.
I scoured the web & found others having similar issues but none of their fixes worked (like using the *#*#... code and playing with the settings). I should mention that I did drop the phone a few hours before this started to happen but it was not that big a drop and I have a Ringke Fuxion-X case on it. There is no visual damage to the phone but perhaps I knocked the antennas loose ... ?
Before I do a factory reset, does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!

No, I gave up & switched to a Pixel 3 XL. Every now & then I turn on the XZ3 to see if it fixed itself & no luck so far.
Hope yours works.

OK for funsies I turned on the XZ3 again after all this time & it is working. Going thru the setup process & so far the SIM or wifi has not disconnected so maybe it fixed itself after all these months?

Maybe dirt in the sim slot?

I have the same issue. Took the phone to repairs and it got better for like 2 weeks and then again the signal began to drop randomly to the point where "sim card is not detected" is written on the screen. When I press on the backplate of the case near the camera (where coax antennae cable is supposed to be) the issue resolves itself for like half an hour and then repeats. The issue is 100% hardware because no firmware (stock, GSI, AOSP, even Sailfish) would affect how SIMs are becoming not detected.

I would let it repair again.
In the SODP team I never heard about the problem, so I assume it must be a rare one.

Getting the phone fixed in service center is not the russian way of nailing it I just sticked a slim piece of plactic onto the back of sim and sd card holder in the sim slot bay to apply pressure on the back of sim card. No issues for a week so far, great and stable signal quality.

Help with my phone

I've got two problems here. The first one happened a few weeks ago, the second one happened last night.
Ok first problem: my phone tells me to "insert sim card" even though one is already in there. I've tried everything: cleaning the sim card, cleaning the place on the phone where the sim card goes, bending the metal holder thing, putting numerous pieces of various types of paper in between the sim card and the metal holder, got a new sim card. I'm currently using the sim card in a razr phone, so it ain't the sim card. And I tried someone else's sim card in my phone and it didn't work either. Any suggestions?
Now the second problem is really serious: last night I installed Core Player on my phone and it installed fine and I watched a few videos using it. I've still got the phone connected to the computer through the usb cable. All of the sudden, it turns off. So I turn it back on, but it turns back off within 10 seconds. All it shows on the screen is "PDA Corner Ultimate". I've tried a hard reset and it doesn't work. I've tried 3 different batteries and that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?
Please help.
I think the next step would be to reflash the ROM, putting the OEM 6.1 back on it, Even if you have it now, just try reflashing it, its one step further then a hard reset.
I would have already tried that, but it won't stay on long enough for me to reflash it. The phone only stays on for like 10 seconds. It gets stuck in the splash screen.

[Q] SIM Card causing reboots on my Xperia T

Hi guys,
Earlier i found out that my sim card was the one responsible for the sudden reboots of my Xperia T. Does anybody know how to fix this? I am currently on stock JB 4.3 with locked boot loader.
Thanks for the help
Hi there,
I would like to post my 2 cents here too, cause this is bug or whatever it is so annoying that I want to smash my Xperia against the wall.
It started shortly after I upgraded my Xperia T to 4.3 (.295). First I thought it is caused by wrong USIM placement, but even if I pull it out and follow the click to be sure it is placed properly, reboots appear from time to time. I was trying to track the source of this with "standard" steps like factory reset, installing apps and do settings without using Backup&Restore app, testing another USIM however without success, using phone with/without microSD card. I even upgraded to latest bugfixing .199 today but those damn reboots persists.
Maybe these observations will help to solve this issue:
- reboots appear usually after using apps using internet connection (mostly local news, gmail, Chrome etc) and, whats interesting, when screen is off
- mostly when on HSPA, not wi-fi
- when I play music, using PowerAmp, not tested on other mainly because I have no other installed
- sometimes after the call
- once or twice it happened when unlocking the phone
- reboots stops only if battery is totally drained or if I notice smell of the the burning flesh of my thigh and I put my screen on/or reinsert USIM.
I will observe more, but Im loosing patience
There were no reboots when on stock 4.1.2 with locked bootloader with root. I also had to turn off SIM card lock, because I need to be reachable. I like this phone, 4.3 is nicely done but this is driving me mad. I consider to downgrade and visit my local vendor, but beforehand I decided to ask community.
Sorry if this is discussed somewhere else here, I just spotted this post and added my POW. Thanks for your help
it may related to the battery

mine was the opposite, reboots all the time when tethering unless I kept the phone on charge on stock 4.1.2. now on 4.3 and only had two reboots after heavy usage, but the phone wasn't on charge and was hot.
Looks like the reboots are caused by handover between 2G and 3G networks. I have set my T to stick on the 3G only and reboots have disappeared. Two days without single reboot
However I have found strange dots on the display recently, like some layer of the display is too thin and light is bit brighter in these parts, so I need to pay a visit to my vendor anyway.
Theme
Hello. I updated to 4.3 rooted ROM, and always restarted and I cant start the phone when is SIM in. Tried reinstall via CWM, nothing helped. And... yes.. maybe installed programs caused this boot loop, try install step by step program to program and succes. I found Woody theme. When I setup this theme, phone cant process Sim pin code section at start. Deleted theme helped me, and now work fine Darklord Rom
Well, I have finally isolated issue and it is not related to cellular handovers. Reboots are caused by faulty mechanism holding SIM card in place. Despite I hear and feel obvious "click" indicating SIM card is in place and mounted, it is not. After undefined time SIM card gets loosed and you can take it out very easily. Not sure if this is just me or it is a construction issue, but I saw too many posts regarding reboots. Time to check guts of your Xperia folks..

This reboot issue start happening to me just last night, no Wi-Fi no 3G, just using "UBreader" (reading a ebook, obviously ) before sleep... it reboots 3 times within an hour calling for "sim/usim card removed"... After third reboot, I open the card holder and removed SDcard, nothing happen, then I remove the sim card and did it again [the reboot] this time on porpuse, so... yeah, I think what @daemin says is true, the mechanism for holding sim card gets loose after a while... sad but true...
Maybe, when holding the phone, we press to hard on that side without noticing and that cause the problem, I don't know... but this morning I check at running apps and all or mostly all say 7 hours "running" so I think phone didn't reboot after I left it there for sleep... who knows...

Check Battery Cover message problem

Hey all,
I ran into an issue with this message and was able to resolve it. My round-about story (with all the details, some immaterial to the issue)...
The issue: Anytime the phone would be accessed/woken up after a few minutes of not being used, I would get the message to check the battery cover. I also would get the message when rebooting but that one appears to be normal. The one that appears each time after minutes of inactivity is not normal. I would only get the message to check the charging port cover after removing the charging cable, so that always remained normal and as it should.
I did the usual: ensured that the battery cover was on correctly, securely and entirely...several times. I figured it was an issue that I was going to have to live with. I also noticed that I would intermittently get a message about my SD card. Sometimes the error would say that it is blank, sometimes it would say it is blank or has unsupported files on it, other times it would simply tell me it was safe to remove my SD card. All for no apparent reason. I placed my card in my daughter's S5 and it worked. Placed it in my wife's S5 and it worked. Checked it on my PC and it worked. I even went so far as to wipe it out, format it and try again. Still received the error message on my phone. Not frequently but often enough to where I began to wonder if I was sold a bad phone.
I read some folks recommended doing a factory reset. I had nothing to lose so I did. I was reinstalling everything and things went well for the first few minutes and then the screen died. The phone was live, the buttons would light up but the screen would never turn on. I immediately headed over to the store and spoke with a really cool manager would agreed to swap out the phone for a new one since I have only had it 3 weeks (as opposed to sending me to the circus tent that is the maintenance facility). New SIM, new phone. Was a happy camper.
Got home, installed everything...and again....the messages started coming to check the battery cover. Frustrated I just decided that it was an issue I was going to have to live with afterall. Hopefully a fix will come about later, right? Well, it wasn't too much longer that the SD errors started again but this time more often. This can't be good. So, I decided to try swapping out the SD cards on my phone and my daughter's phone for a longer period of time. Let's do it overnight. So, in the morning I checked my phone (with her SD card). No messages at all. I checked her phone with my SD card. Hers now had the check batter cover message. I let both sit for a few minutes and checked them again. No messages on mine, but hers once again had the check battery cover. No errors regarding the SD card tho and it was able to access the content on the SD card just fine. Both SD Cards are 16GB SanDisk.
So, to further test, I swapped the SD cards again, putting her card back in her phone and mine back in my phone. Sure enough, mine was getting the check battery cover and hers was not.
So, long story short, it turns out that my SD card is causing the check battery message. It was throwing SD card errors on my phone but not on hers. So, for those people getting the constant battery cover message but not getting the SD card errors....try swapping out SD cards and see if that resolves the issue.
Hope that helps and wasn't too wordy...just wanted to make sure all the info was there.
EDIT:
SD Card that went bad was SanDisk microSD 16GB. Was replaced with an identical card and works fine. It has been a couple of weeks now and the replacement SD card in my GS5 continues to function properly and I no longer get the pop-ups unless I reboot or have actually removed the battery cover. I left the bad one in my tablet this whole time just to see and sure enough it was giving errors for a week and now it simply no longer works.

Um no. Obviously there was an SD card issue. That needs to be taken care of. Oh somethings wrong here let me get rid of the warnings. That's not how things are done. Whether you take the pop ups away or not doesn't fix the problem. It's just not allowing to tell you the problem

Damn I was hoping for something different. I'm getting the same messages,
But I haven't put a SD CARD in yet. Still have my Note 2 running, S5 is a work phone. I've tried different ways to install cover. Mostly following the pressure point indications that flash up with the message pops up.
I'll monitor it, I can't remember when the last time I've seen them. Forgot phone at work yesterday charging it.
If I don't get messages any more, my fix was putting the cover on starting at the top. You definitely need to hear the clicks on all sides. I noticed sometimes I would not hear the top click if I started putting cover on from the bottom or sides.
Good find on the SDCARD issue though. Can you edit your first post and add in make/model of the cards that are working for you, and the one that is causing errors as reference.
It would be interesting to know if it's specific makes/models/sizes of cards that cause the message.

Actually, you were treating the symptom, not the cause. That's the same as if your car was leaking oil in the driveway and you simply put a pan under the car to catch the oil. Sure, you are no longer getting oil on your driveway but it doesn't change the fact that your car still has an oil leak and will eventually lock up the engine if not fixed. By fixing the actual problem (bad SD card), I was able to resolve the pop-up notices.
Fix the problem and the symptoms go away.

When everything is working properly do you get the "check battery" pop up after reboot and "check charging flap" after charging? YES it's built in annoying I was offerin a suggestion to get rid of those annoying pop ups that is all.
What's the title of this article?

Yes, the message does now appear only when it is supposed to and no longer appears when it is not supposed to. When it appears as designed, it is not a problem. It may an annoyance to some, but is in no way a problem because that's what it was designed to do. When the pop-ups do appear at times when it is not supposed to then it is considered a problem because that isn't what it was designed to do. Mine was doing it when it wasn't supposed to. This is why the title of the post was called "Check Battery Cover message problem" and not "Check Battery Cover message toggle to shut it off from showing up when it's supposed to."

Wow that's a trip. I was expecting it to be an issue with maybe the top of the card being slighter fatter.
I was beginning to question whether the I-Balson case I put on it was tripping a sensor.

Slightly bend connectors - Samsung S5 - check batteri message
Hi!
I´ve also had the same issue for some time and it started when I got a new flip wallet case. Now I got real tired of this and I tried to solve the issue by simply and carefully BEND the two connectors on the back of the phone nearby the camera. And that SOLVED my issue - the message is gone!! Before it came frequently all the time. :good:

I know this is an old thread, but oh man! is this guy for real? can't tell if it's a poor attempt at trolling, or a poor attempt at issue comprehension and resolution.
Old thread but I just got bit in the butt by this one. I was only getting the message about the back cover on reboots. I would have thought that you would never see this message unless there was an issue, but did some reading and it seemed that this was normal behavior. So I took the phone snorkling (yes I know you're not supposed to take it in salt water but figured I could clean out the headphone jack). By the time I took it out of my pocket to take pics, it was dead (no more than 5 minutes). Took off the back cover, found water which left salt behind after it dried. Phone has not recovered, I am going to try to take it apart this weekend and clean out the salt. It was a work phone and already been replaced, but I'd like to try to get the pictures off of this from my vacation. It would be nice if there was a way to know for sure if the phone is properly sealed up before going into the water with it. Work gave me another S5, but I won't be exposing it to any water because I can't trust that it's properly sealed.

My samsung s3 mini starts rebotting when i put sim card

Hello everybody. I have had a lot of trouble with my phone since a week ago. I had installed cyanogemod 11 4.4.4 in my phone and everything was working fine, one day (a week ago) it freeze, turn off and never turn on again. When to the store: sudden death. The board had to be replaced. So after all the repairs they give me the phone, works fine like for 4 hours, then out of nowhere it starts rebotting. i performed a factory reset, still happening. Then i realized that it only start resetting if i put the sim card. If the slot is empty, nothing happens. The reboot starts when it charges the home screen, barely shows something and then goes black, the following reboots can to get to this stage or rebooting in samsung logo. What should i try?
edit: another thing that i noted is that the new board is a I8190, the original one was a I8190L and it was a surprise at first because new board can support 3G with my simcard, while the old one can't. A frequency band that is suported for one that the other don't i think.
Sorry for my bad english, not a native speaker.

After read your problem, I suggest you to go to service center. If the phone rebooting itself when you put battery on (you don't turn on with power button), it must be hardware problem on your phone.
By the way, version I8190, I8190N, I8190L they has different board, combination board with the stock board can make your device harmful.

No, i turn it on with the power button. I take it to the service center, it worked fine like for 3 or 4 hours then it starts rebooting over and over again. It only stops if i remove the sim card, start over and works like a charm. I don't know what to do. The tech guy says he tested it and everything comes fine.

Freezes and restart... Died. What is the problem?

Hi guys since yesterday I have problems with my phone
the phone suddenly freezes over without being able to interact.
it restarts on its own but without ever starting the operating system in fact it shuts down and does not turn on again as if the phone had died.
the really strange thing is that the phone was fine Then suddenly he started making this mess.
Yesterday after so many hours of problems I managed to start the phone and now it works well but I am afraid that the situation will repeat itself.
the phone has the bootloader unlocked has root permissions, I followed the guides on this site.
But I have had this phone for two months now and these problems never occurred.
where can i start to understand what the problem is?
Mine suddently become all white, with the interface cut in half and moved up. i could do nothing. nor reboot nor shutdown.
after some minutes it turned back normal. i hope its color os bug and realme will fix it
It appears to be a firmware problem. We hope well.
Today did not give problems. This behavior is really strange, what can I install to understand the root of the problem?
I noticed that if the phone never goes into deep sleep mode the problem does not occur.
Now I am registering the log and as soon as the problem occurs again I go into detail to find out the real reason.
I'm trying to create an automatic script that is launched on the boot that practically never makes the phone sleep.
i'm really desperate the phone started to reboot itself.
I would like to try using a system log recorder but I realized that when I restart the phone these logs are not saved so it is impossible for me to verify the reason.
Can any of you help me out?
the phone freezes and then restarts.
Did you achieve any solution ?
No. I'm disperate.
Why don't you flash stock fw /recovery? Just to make sure it isn't an Hardware problem ?
I try but have this problem

The problem appears only when you use data connection right?
If you try to switch off data and use wifi , you will not notice
The problem is because of the the operator, try another sim provider
Yes, in fact, that could be the problem because a few months ago removing the SIM card the phone did not give more problems
maybe you gave me the solution. I'll try

I am now testing the LINEAGE it happened to me this I removed the SIM card and I installed the costum Rom, I made the various customizations and the phone never locked OR restarted.
I inserted the SIM card in the phone worked perfectly, then having messed up with luckypatcher I had to reinstall the Rom.
So I performed the same procedure with the SIM card inserted in the phone and already at the first start it was unstable with reboots.
Currently I have applied for a change of sim card.
As soon as it arrives I will try to remove the sim card Install from scratch The system is to insert the new SIM card only so I can have the mathematical certainty that it is the SIM card
I hope my experience can help someone
This problem seems true, my X2 Pro also faced same issue when enabling cellular data. The phone sometimes loses the signal or the app freezes and perform a phone reboot. X2 Pro is a mid-range flagship phone, and yet this problem should be solved before they start to sell the phone.
Yes this device has many software problems but hardware problems of this kind are not acceptable.
Practically mine has become unusable, as soon as I turn it on after a few minutes of use it start closing the apps by itself.
Then after AN intende use of 30 minutes it start to restart.
This phone is truly incredible
