I have an iPhone 8 Plus and now the Huawei P30 Pro and the amount of ads that pop up on apps and Google Chrome Browser are crazy many. I probably get about 2 to 4 times as many ads on the Huawei P30 Pro as I do on my iPhone. For example on the Flipboard app for News practically half the app is ads now using the Huawei P30 Pro. Anyone know how to get rid of most of these ads?
Settings - Private DNS - and add this : dns.adguard.com
That should block most of the ads.

Does this work on Chrome Browser or should it be used with another browser for better results? What about ads that pop up on apps like Flipboard?

Changing your private dns to adguard works phone wide. However you still will have pop ups and stuffs but most of the ads will be blocked. If you wan't to completely block ads while browsing the internet, then Brave browser would be an alternative browser for you. Only issue is, you wont be able to sync your stored google passwords and stuffs.

Im not sure, i only use chrome. Try and let us know.
Use Blokada from fdroid store.
Can tell that dns66 doesn't work so well or i misconfigured something.
But the amount of ads makes me want to return mz p30 pro since there is no root available to use adaway
Hmm blockada seems to work better. Gonna stick with that.
try adguard also there a chance you might like it as well

does the same as changing your phones dns. (dns.adguard.com)
Blockada changes your dns, not more, not less.

Actually not true, Blokada runs a VPN which blocks much more than the DNS, give it a try before judging.

Bullsh*t... its the same principle, Blockada creates a vpn tunnel and blocks advertising on a dns basis.
Yes ... blockada has its own adblock lists, but its remains what it is, a dns blocking adblocker as dns.adguard.com
Here is the info how blockada works:

well you might be right but having adguard or blockada you can add more filters or customize it to your liking, just adding the dns of adguard you wont be able to exclude any website you want
Set up dns on Settings > Wireless & Networks > Private DNS with dns.adguard.com

I tried them all; adfree, adaway, adblock + and nothing seems to block ads.
Had the issue with 4.2.2 and now with 4.3. There are ads in the browser and all the apps.
I have root and downloaded hosts file, tried the web server option and nothing works.

Wifi or 3g?
On 3g is network dependent, if your operator is using a proxy then adaway will not work.
Just check with wifi and you are right there are no ads.
I guess theres nothing that can be done with lte
1. tip:
install elixir2 and deactivate for every app activities e.g. with following names:
.ad.
.google.analytics.
.advert.
...
2. tip:
install xposed framework, then download the modules "youtube adaway" (blocks ad on youtube) and "xod" (blocks a lot of google ad in many apps)
3. tip:
use dolphin browser and activate the option called something like "show flash-content only when clicked on", like this no flash-based ad will be shown/loaded during surfing
With these quite simple tips most ad I would ever see on my phone is vanished and won't drain battery etc.
Btw. see my thread about battery life, if you want more info on these tips (because i included the mentioned 3 with more details in my thread)
Thanks dolphin works great and I see no ads.
Also installed the xposed modules since the YT ads bugged me the most, to lazy for the elixir2 though, it's good enough like this.
You have some good advice in your thread, I already do most of it, what I need anyway.
This is an awesome add blocker...

If anyone is having the same issue, try to leave the apn proxy blank.
I'm on bell and it works, I get a connection and there are no ads.
Hi I always had adaway as ad block. But it seems not working. I see the ads in different apps and there's no adfree version of the app. So is there a better app to block the ads?
It's working fine on .108. You must have root to use it.
Of course I have root. But as I said in some apps it doesn't take ads away.

Maybe because they didnt update to support "ad away" for new ads and ads provider. Try to update it regulary.
It's updated.
Try MoAD (Mother of Ad-block)
It's on XDA....
Adblocker apps (hosts) not working...
I m on Stock 4.4.4 rooted XT1068..
Tried AdAway , Adblock Plus, Adfree, Manual Hosts... nothing works... where as when trying apps they say Ads are being blocked.. but i can see all ads.. pop ups, splash screens, and browser ads.. all are still there....
Anyway to block all ads on this phone...... without the firewall because i dont want to turn off the connectivity of any particular apps... cause there are many online apps.. i just want to block ads...
Help if possible...
Thanks....
Try adguard, its best. It was on google play but they removed it from play store once they found its blocking all ads. http://adguard.com/en/welcome.html
Ps: If you just want to block browser based ads, use firefox and download ad block addons. It works good, you wont get a single popup.
Xt 1068 stock rooted.
I use AdAway, and it works great. If you try it, don't forget to reboot after download and apply hosts.
Just the nature of mobile devices - and the ever changing and lucrative ad market. Pretty much, best way to reduce ads is be careful what you install, and stick to trusted sites.
Download the hostfile from adaway. Then use a fileexplorer and go to system/etc and look for the hostfile. Change permission to rw-rw-rw. That works, had that problem too [emoji6]

Not exactly true, Samsung does send you stuff all the time and if you use a system app, like members, you'll see them also. While all ads are annoying, you can opt out of them during the setup process on Xiaomi phones. Perhaps you missed that part?
Hi and thx for ur replay. I opt them out already sir. But still have ads. And another thing that i found, the font style is missing too. Or am i a dumb?
That should be in display, However, the Xiaomi.eu rom has no ads. You should try that.
Ok My friend ill try it. About the font style no show everywhere.
I am running a Xiaomi.eu rom and the font settings are in display.
I don't get what ROM you are using, anyway to deactivate ads you must go into settings, privacy, authorization and revocation and deactivate the related apps (daemon, ads, analytics) then for each MIUI app go into settings and set to off "receive raccomandations". Regarding Google apps you must set to off ads options into settings->Google. To remove ads into chrome you can't do anything but installing a different browser, I do recommend Kiwi browser which is basically a copy of chrome with an in built ad blocker
Hi All,
does anybody has Adguard app ( not private DNS ) sucessfully running with One UI ?
I tried Blokada but could not get that relieable working. Always gets killed or somewhat ...
Could not try Adguard atm as i'm still waiting for my new device.
Maybe someone has tried that and could give his experience here and maybe tell the settings which are needed.
Thanks in advance.
I am successfully using AdGuard on my GM781U. It used to disable itself every once and awhile, but has been very stable the past few months. Not sure if one of the recent updates to AdGuard helped.
I had tried both DNS66 and Blockada with decent results, but it has been awhile, so don't remember why I ended up getting AdGuard.
Also you can combine AdGuard Content Blocker (free, Google Play) with your Yandex or Samsung browser + any adblocker DNS (like dns.comss.one) if you want to minimize delay in loading web pages and not experience adblock app blocking by background services management mechanisms.
Previously, I used only Adguard standalone app and it seemed to me that its work was unstable, often the Internet was simply interrupted or some other apps refused to accept its CA certificate.
